Apparently build quality and attention to detail is a step above other MG models. Don't know if they will sell many at that price, but obviously time will tell

lol well shit, they'd want to be for 100-130k

It definitely looks cool, and as a niche product to show what they're capable of it's a good idea.
Would I spend 120k on one? No.
I can't imagine many selling in Aus, but I also expect they are well aware of this and don't expect to sell them by the thousands.

Yes, it's offensive to say "Since 1924" given these have nothing to do with actual MGs.
It looks ok to be fair but why would you buy a Chinese EV instead of a Boxster or something? It would be pretty embarrassing showing up somewhere in that, and the resale would be non-existent.
    Not on your life.

They use London designers . And keep a lot of heritage. But thank God they are not like 60s MGs.

3.2 seconds is fast, but consider that it's twice the price of a BYD Seal Performance which has a 3.8 second 0-100.

There is a big difference between 3.2/3.8 seconds

@@madrx2For how many people does it make that much difference to though? The fact is you can carry 4, or 5 in a pinch, in the seal and it’s half the price. 🤔 I drive more than I’d say 95% of the population at 150,000 - 200,000ks a year, and there’s not a lot of the time I can utilize the 0-100 in my car which is 4.9 seconds. 🤔

@@madrx2and I’d like to add that I rented a byd seal Performance on Turo at the start of the year for a week when I was on the central coast. I got to launch it maybe 3 times and two of those times I broke the law to get to that speed…so not really much of a use case for most

As much as I like the look of it, if I had that sort of coin to spend, I'd probably spend it on a more established brand and wait to see how the MG resale holds up against the others.

MG have been here since 2006. And they have a London design bureau from the Rover days. The comparisons with Hyundai couldn't be more wrong.

No amount of acceleration or speed can make up for the fact that: (1) it is a Chinese government owned brand, and every dollar of profit props up an odious regime and (2) The depth of engineering will be at the usual level. Good enough to pass the first inspection - insufferable to own.

Truth is while you may care about the politics behind it, very little do. The whole country loves buying things off Temu, and most retail items are made in China anyway. Bang for buck is all the significant majority care about, Australians have better things to do than worry about affairs overseas which is to worry about their family budget.
Quality is manufacturer dependent, I’d trust BYD over MG, just as I would trust Toyota over Nissan, it’s more to do with the company than a massive nation.
