    Very good! I didn't have the Toyota bolts so I gently used screwdrivers to work the drum off.

    Just bought a 2014 2.4 petrol here in the UK,mine has a combined drum handbrake and disc/caliper main brake at the rear.

      Any GV 2009 or newer has discs all the way around. Thanks for watching!

    Get your self a real jack. A 3 ton hydraulic jack. It will run you about $100 or so. Your gonna get hurt messing with that cheap spare tire change jack. Invest in one, trust me. You will never be happier about anything.

    03 Chevy Tracker - I did the drum brakes on my friend's car...to get the drums off, we had to loosen the emergency brake adjuster!

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen that happen on some vehicles - not sure if its an adjustment issue or by design, as I've not dealt with designing drum brakes since discs are prevalent these days in almost all applications. Thanks for watching!

      @@redonKiLaus thank you so much for posting!!! We used your tip with the screws to remove the drums.... almost worked..we used screws that were laying around, not the part# you used... pretty much stripped the threads... next time I'll listen to you! LoL...we couldn't find a book for the '03, so we used one for '01 and it said to loosen the adjuster for the emergency brake....needless to say...I never want to see that car again..lol. but thank you so much for the video!

      The '03 does not have those little windows in the backing plate to adjust the star wheel... stupid design

    I removed the back drum off of my 2007 Gand Vitara at about 35K and like yours, mine showed little wear. Instantly after, the rear drums are howling when the brakes are applied. After a year if my wife moaning, I'm going too do a reline with new drums. Should have left it alone.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea what happened. Did you adjust the star wheel at all, because if you did, that was not prescribed in this video, nor by Suzuki. I have never had such an issue in all my years of working on automobiles.

      redonKiLaus No, everything seemed so nice and clean I just put the drums back on it. I work at a Napa and these drums are hard to find and not cheap. I found some on Ebay that are reasonable. I will do a total reline this Spring. Thanks for your reply

    I always wear gloves when dealing with brake parts. Brake dust is not something you want to absorb through the pores of your skin.

      @redonKiLaus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are talking about the bolts to get the drum off, the ones I used are the same that I purchased for my Toyota, which are available here: www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~bolt~90099-04306-83.html
      Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    Before taking the drum off, do you not loosen the handbrake as well as wind in the shoes via the adjuster and window in the drum?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just let off the handbrake, all good after that. Thanks for watching!

    can you make a video about changing the control arms that are connected to the ball joints, since they come as a whole and not seperate? would be grate if you could.

      Unfortunately, this vehicle was wrecked a couple years ago so I no longer have a GV in my fleet. Sorry about that, but thanks for watching!

    To Nick Carver, had same issue. Inspected rear drum brakes. Very loud, nails on a chalk board, squeak sound. Pads look fine. What did you do? Can't find any vids on replacing drum brakes on 08 Suzuki Grand Vitara...

    What year Grand Vitara are you working on? The rear hubs on my 1999 look nothing like the ones in your video.

      +alberto rodriguez Unfortunately I can't, as the truck was totalled a couple months ago. Thanks for watching, and hopefully the GV videos I was able to make while I had the truck are helpful!

    колодки тормозные так и не показал конкретно. я с трудом и догадками нашел в интернете похожие колодки с лапками в центре колодки.

    How much is good shoe thickness? Can't find it on the open web.

    • @redonKiLaus

      I'm honestly not sure what the spec is, and I don't have a GV service manual to check. I'd say 100-150k miles is about when you'd want to change the shoes, though. Thanks for watching!

      I don't have any experience with that brand of fluid. I only use Toyota Type-IV or the equivalent Mobil 3309 in my vehicles that are spec'd for mineral based fluids. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    When you took the drum off it would been a good time to warn about brake dust.

    Very poor commentary. At 4.22. They are NOT pads - they are shoes.

    Sounds like your reading your info....you should not make brake videos if you have no experiance. Could kill people. Im a mechanic with 40 years on the job, please dont touch brakes because a youtuber thinks it that easy...or thinks a book told them how to....alot of variables....dont risk your life or others..

      If you're in the US, you can try contacting an auto parts store like Auto Zone, but Suzuki parts are very hard to come by here in America these days. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
