    I do like the design of the updated Land Cruiser. Very understated and functional. It will never stop blowing my mind that we talk about $50k being an affordability threshold though! It's affordable for maybe 10-15% of the US population; the rest of us who would like one of these would have to live in it to afford it!

    • @srzy

      @@srzyYou're way off, just because something is overpriced and allows monthly payments, doesn't mean people can afford it. Homes and vehicles cost WAY more than the majority of the population in the US can afford. Just because people take out loans for things they can't pay for doesn't mean they can afford it. Just because people are paying 1k a month for car payments while they live at their Mom's house doesn't mean they can actually afford it. The average price for the outdated technology that is a vehicle, it's honestly about double or triple what it should be. Ridiculous!

      @@neo7759 I think you're way off. Not every one has the same goal that you have. Just cause you think people can't afford, doesn't mean they can't. Maybe that kid who lives at moms house doesn't intend to leave? i have friends who still live at their parents cause thats their culture to live mulitple generations in the same household. Not everyone has the same ideals as you. I make 8k a month. That's low income in my area. does that mean i can't afford a 2k car payment? no it does not, I do not need a single family home that some people call the "american dream"

      @@srzy Nope you are incorrect and your "stats" don't equate to reality across the United States, especially outside of California. Just because banks have figured out clever ways to make things "affordable " by trapping people into payments for decades with crazy high interest......does not mean most people can afford it. I make about four times the salary that you just mentioned and I would never pay that much for a car, not in a million years. Cars are way out of whack and the price of them has never been more ridiculous. The fact that you make 8k a month and actually think you CAN afford a 2k car payment tells me everything I need to know about your finances and how your brain works when it comes to money. That same mentality is the problem in this country and why things are so expensive and why so many people are buried in debt. The collective population of the USA has the financial savvy of a 9 year old it would seem.

      that's the problem, people who can't afford new cars just take out loans and the industry knows it. We live in an era where people are willing to take on consumer debt to buy toys they can't afford.

      Well, the damn grill looks better. That's for sure. I don't know what it is with toyota's design team, but they can't do nice grills. They've got those stupid catfish headlights, and that giant mask of hard plastic on the new Tundra. I like the fenders getting beefed up with body lines, but they gotta square off the headlights and ditch the giant grill. This and the G55 are a really good start. I hope this carries over to the 4runner remodel.

    I reckon the J250 will continue to be called Prado in various parts of the world where the Prado is currently sold, like the middle east. The Prado is popular around here, I'm sure you saw plenty of them back in Dubai, M.
    International markets will get a 7-seater J250, apparently powered by the 2.7 inline 4 currently in the Hilux, Fortuner & Prado.
    What's going on with the sunroof though? Press shots of the international model shows a panoramic roof while the blue one you sat in had a traditional sunroof instead (like the Lexus).
    Toyota also updated the Series 70 Land Cruisers as well.
    Excellent work like always, M.

    The design I think is fantastic. It looks great! I had a 2020 LC Heritage Edition (made 30K selling it after 2 years lol...) and one of the cool parts about it were that you never saw one. Where I lived they were allocated 2 of them per year... I'm sure from a Toyota perspective this is going to be a winner - do the things a Bronco/Jeep do in the same price range but you know it won't break. But it makes me wonder if it will have that same, *it* that the older LC's did. Like I remember the 200 had slightly thicker glass, just so it would last longer. Lots of little things like that, which this version doesn't seem to have. That said... I will probably order one, though that Trailhunter... oh man.
    On the 4Runner side - I think the plan is to make a smaller body on frame vehicle there to go right at Jeep. I would be perfect in their lineup and match the cross over line up Toyata has. RAV4, Highlander, Grand Highlander for crossovers, then 4Runner, LC, Sequoia for BOF off-road SUVs. A skinny 4Runner, with a turbo 4, 5 seats, and a large sunroof or top + Toyata reliability... If I was over at FCA I would be freaked out.
    Love your videos man! Great work.

    This reminds me of my 1st year model FJ Cruiser: form over function. Let me be clear, I had the 6MT with the locking center diff. I've never had an off-road vehicle drive as well as that SUV. However, the rear seating space was cramped, the frame was comparatively weak (in typical Toyota fashion), the frame needed to be chopped for 33" tires, and at 6' tall even, I couldn't see a traffic light at all. I had to give up my FJ Cruiser due to a lumbar spine injury, that made working a clutch pedal extremely painful. Instead of buying a 4Runner, which was my first choice, I bought the top level 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X,with leather seats. The Xterra doesn't drive quite as nicely as my FJ Cruiser did with full time 4WD, and rear coil springs. But, you had to buy a manual transmission to get the center diff on an FJ Cruiser. My Xterra is still running well in 2023. The seating is firm and spacious, and the angles are better than a 4Runner. Surprisingly, despite being a smaller vehicle, the Xterra felt much larger inside than the comparable 2011 4Runner. I see the same flaws in this vehicle. This guy is 6' tall, and his head is nearly hitting the roof. Seeing out of that upright windshield looks difficult. The rear leg room is atrocious. The approach angle loons good, but the departure angle looks terrible. I'm confused as to who Toyota is marketing this to. If they're going to make a Land Cruiser, make it a bit larger for families, and make the 4runner a bit smaller for better off-road performance.

    Decisions, decisions Motoman! To keep my 2020 LC200 (Blizzard white pearl with Terra interior), or go for a first edition?
    That blue two tone certainly is sharp looking. On a side note, I've been wishing for a hybrid version though. Any chance the first edition will be offered as such?
    Either way, I like what I see so far, and I'm going to be very tempted indeed!

    • @Akash-jz2vf
      @Akash-jz2vf ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LC200 is a legit Land Cruiser, this is the inferior version of the current gen LC300 known in other markets as Land Cruiser Prado. Toyota is marketing this as Land Cruiser in the USA to raise the appeal for Lexus LX600, which is based on LC300. Also Prado used to be a smaller version of Land Cruisers in past, but from this model I think Toyota has changed vision for this model, to increase the appeal for both LC300 and LX600.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tough call. It if were me, I would keep the LC200. Why? I don't see a NON Prado version of the LC coming back to the US which means a US based LC200 will not be replaced any time soon. As such, that will buoy resale and thus maintain your car's value.

    This design looks small in some angles and gigantic in others. I thought it was gonna be smaller at first, but with these dimensions I’m now more confused at what its purpose will be. Granted the design is fantastic and that might be a seller on its own, but the GX looks beastly too and is set as an off roader too, with more power. If the 4runner is still gonna be a name plate what possible niche could it serve? This is the same confusion that the TX and Grand Highlander give me, that the ES and Crown do as well; there’s way too many derivative products atm, I can pick favorites but how will this not eat at their own market share

      Not impressed w/all the plastic on the base model, plus the tire and wheel combo is underwhelming. I don’t see how this vehicle has a large market because options push the price up further. I’ll hang onto my LR3 & LR4 because they have better styling, more creature comforts, and better off road gadgets. I purchased both for less than $50k total w/168k combined miles…and they run fantastic.

So what if it has 400+ lb/ft of torque - what about the durability? What is the point of the downsizing if there is minimal improvement to fuel efficiency?

      @@briandorsey6437 when I had my Sequoia and have had rental 4 Runners, I have loved having the sunroof slid back, all windows open and the rear window rolled down. Not as open as a convertible, but the air feels great and doesn't buffet as much since it can flow through. For less air flow, opening the sunroof and the back window rolled down, or part way, makes for great airflow across the top of the vehicle without making too much wind noise. Any idea when or if Toyo will stop hiding the driver down and behind the front engine compartment giving limited road view? Don't get me wrong... the price, options, and looks are great, but a 2-3 foot blind spot in front of the vehicle and at the front corners is too much. Call me old fashioned; but, I always found it nice to see the road when driving. Or, make the old discovery's toyota based. Okay, here is my wishlist. Why can’t I have the rounded headlights on the higher trim. Only 5,000 first editions? Why Toyota? Why oh why is the load floor so high that it’s nearly unusable. I really wanted to like this and upgrade from my current 4Runner, but I may just wait now and see what they do with that platform instead. Can’t wait to see your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to do your first drive review.

    • @leeraymer166
      @leeraymer166 ปีที่แล้ว

      One more gripe I just thought about. Regarding the battery under the load floor, I get that you have to put the battery somewhere, but why not take the opportunity to do something really cool and take the spare tire out from under the frame, package the battery lower in the vehicle to give you a lower, flatter load floor and put the spare tire on the rear tailgate and make the tailgate open like the current GX 460. That would make this Land Cruiser look even more bad ass and make it more practical on the interior as well. Rant over.

When these make the lot they will likely be the most expensive vehicles on the lot where dealers are going to take full advantage pricing these based on demand. The last Land Cruiser model a few years ago was 80K MSRP. Adjusting for inflation, demand and unacceptable dealership greed these land Cruisers BASE MODELS will be 100K with markups.

      I’m a “soccer Mom”, AND an outdoor enthusiast. Love to hike, fish, camp, ski, rock climb, etc…Wouldn’t buy a Forerunner, would want a new, 2024, double cab Tacoma instead (for off roading & THD runs), currently own a Highlander Hybrid (V6 eCVT, that we love!), would like to own a Land cruiser… but not as a primary vehicle. That said, my favorite vehicle ever was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, small block V8 (5.2L Mopar). That vehicle was a ‘tank’, (and cornered really well! Unlike the Highlander we have now! The only drawback the vehicle has, in our opinions), but my Jeep also emptied its tank way too quickly. &, If only Jeep engines were as reliable as Toyota. The vehicle had major issues after 100K miles. My dream “soccer Mom” vehicle is a Lexus TX PHEV, not a Land cruiser. Twice the price, not as fun, but good electric range along with hybrid power and w/o the need to stop to charge it on longer road trips. If I owned a Land Cruiser it would be b/c I was taking the family soccer players to the backcountry more than the soccer fields.
