you don't use any soaks or soaps/woolwash? just plain water? that is ok to do?
Nice tutorial! Did you use acrylic yarn for this? I'm crocheting a poncho with an acrylic blend and it's starting to curl up at the edges so I'm looking into blocking for acrylic.

Does it stay like this after you clean it? Or you have to block it every time?
