This is beautiful it's just such ashame that your clients chose leopard pattern for an antique sofa. I'm planning to do mine in solid velvet. Not sure what color yet though

Carissa Grimes my mom ran an upholstery business for several years. It was a family operation as she would have us ( her five girls) strip the sofa, chair, loveseat, etc. Trust me me when I tell you it was not always a treasure you found. 😖

I watched 30 minutes into the video and just saw the customer's fabric choice. it boggles my mind that there are people that would spend the money to professionally reupholster an antique sofa who have such bad taste.

Loved your video. Lots of helpful information. I have a fainting couch I believe to have been made in late 1800's early 1900's that folds out into a bed. Since seat is part of bed I would like to know how you would redo coil spring section. I'm at a loss. Called several upholstery shops in my area and no one knows what I talking about or has seen one. Was hoping you could help or if you have worked on one and made a video I would like to watch it.
You are the pro but I have found that needle nose pliers work very well in removing staples.

Generally I enjoyed watching this video. However I do a few extra tips that wasn't in this particular demonstration 1. When your removing finnishing gimp which has been clued on try using lighter fuel to desolve the glue first! This tip comes in handy if your only need to repair an item and not recovering. Also fabric which has pile to it, lets say velvet there is a high chance of damaging it if you pull on the gimp even gently as in this video. Note orientally the gimp would of been hand saw on! 2. In the UK many authentic upholsterers dislike using staples in Victorian setters or older items. This was done solely for the benefit of the last upholsterer saving on time! If it's not authenic the item will lose value... note you can buy blue steel tacks in the UK if can't get them where you are in world. 3 The gentleman in this video said that the hand saw dug roll along the front edge of the seat was in good shape always a bonus but it was difficult for me to see in this video from my angle if the dug roll was still over hung across all of it's front edge by 1/2 inch or 25 cm. Note that the dug roll can be in good shape but it is still often push back which would give you a poor finish if that was the case. 3. From this video I notice there wasn't an calico fabric fitted to this project. Which means the last upholsterer before was in hurry to get the job done the cheap! In the UK we call this a cowboy job! As the gentleman upholsterer would of benefited greatly from as it would ment that much of felt wadding would of stayed in place. 4. No mention of the condition of the fame was mentioned so I can only assume it was in good shape. But please note in most modern homes these days has central heating which over time dry out the wood making it brittle between reupholstery. Therefore it is best you treat the frame with linseed oil before reupholstery starts! On furniture this old. I hope these tips helps? They sure have in my 40 years in the business.

So was there tufting under the fabric?
We just brought some victoria style sofa and chair and we have them in the garage waiting to close in the house to move in. And well they got black mold and wondering if we can refix them ourselves without paying soo much money for someone to fix it. We're thinking of getting them steam clean first. See if that removes the mold.

Why wouldn't you use propex on the back of the frame?
