    This is truly disturbing. It seems like the majority of these drivers do not hit their brakes until they're a few metres away from the wreck.

      Could be due to headlights not picking up the stopped vehicle until its too late. Called over driving your headlights.

      You are absolutely correct. People go to fast and don't leave enough room between them and the car in front of them. Also no one has their hazards on either. That dude in the pink shirt who was just walking around was being very stupid. Don't ever do that. I lived in LA for a decade and people drive 70 to 80 mph with just a few meters between them. Very bad idea.

    • @justsomeguy5628
      @justsomeguy5628 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      People in place that don't get snow, as well as young drivers and generally unhinged drivers(we have a lot of both here in Iowa), act like such idiots, and will often go faster in snowy and icy conditions than they normally would in clear conditions, just because they feel like it. And to nobodies suprise, they get in crashes. For reference, I drive a light, lowdown car, and I still have to apply the brakes a bare minimum of 3 seconds before a lot of people in places without snow would even consider the idea of slowing down, and it can be worse(3 seconds may seem like a small amount of time, but vehicles going at the speeds I go normally take just barely over a second to stop after the brakes have been applied). People with SUVs just straight up cannot stop in time, making it all the more infuriating that they are the most common type of vehicle here, and just being terrifying for all parties. I've actually had a case where at least a good 5 seconds passed and my car was still moving, having traveled around a block since I started applying the brakes, and bringing me right up to, or seemingly slightly jutting into the busy road ahead, with me backing up as soon as possible, and only narrowly avoid getting hit by a truck. And that was with me going ~23 to begin with. Snow is no joke.

      Yeah but I can’t blame em. Some were probably driving for hours. When I travel, I drive for days at a time. You’re bound to slip up every once in a while. Not to mention it’s EXTREMELY dark and the crashed vehicles have NO lights on. It would be ridiculously hard to see them when you’re going 80 mph even if they WERE paying attention. Regardless, I do agree.

      I can tell you from experience that driving at highway speed at night is not as easy as it looks. I once drove on a highway and there was a couch that fell from a semi and was laying in the middle of the highway. I couldnt see it until it was too late. I was lucky enough to be in the lane next to it. If I wasn’t, I would have crashed. Unfortunately, a lady was not so lucky. She crashed into the couch and spun out of control. Luckily she was ok but the couch destroyed her car. There’s a reason we have hazard lights. Non of the vehicles in the spot of the accident had their hazard light on.

      The biggest problem is there are a lot of people getting off a long shift from work and being exhausted behind the wheel.
      To prove my point go inside a Tesla Model Y or even the latest Model 3 from a long shift and watch those warning sensors go off.
      You can buy these devices even for regular cars and it will save your life.

Less than 2 minutes later a snowplow driver not paying attention rammed into the back of his truck (no trailer) at 60+mph, totalling both vehicles. I'd never heard the story til I saw a lady setting flowers on my grandpa's grave 3 years or so ago. It was the the driver's now 37 year old daughter. This would have never happened in Germany and I tell you why. In Germany people have to do 2 seperate exams to get the drivers license, also it takes a minimum of 30 hours of pure driving to be accepted for the driving exam. Furthermore we learn how to do what is called a Rettungsgasse and when there is an accident everyone uses their warning lights to signal to slow down. Then also when an accident happens and you get the chance as the driver, you have to put up reflecting triangle on the road 200m from the accident so people know somethings ahead and they need to watchout. Also, as soon as someone would have an accident people would turn their fucking engines down and stop in front to help and so nobody can pass and you have a clear warning sign with a still standing car that has flashing lights on. Its called unterlassene Hilfeleistung or Fahrerflucht to just carry on and drive away, which equals, failure to provide help and can be fined with imprisonment.

      Things like this in LA are so rare that you never even really consider them as a possibility. You’re kind of focused on other hazards. Traffic is usually so dense that there’s almost no chance anything would be stationary on the freeway. If there’s an accident, traffic comes to a halt. This situation where there’s an accident and traffic is still moving? Yeah, this doesn’t happen.
      When you live somewhere that has more intense weather and/or significantly less traffic, you are then much more aware of things like this being a possibility because it’s not uncommon. When I’m in a town where it’s snows and it’s winter, I’m extra vigilant of stopped cars and road conditions. In LA, my mind is focused on other drivers way more than road conditions, because the road conditions are 99.99% fine.

      And this is in one of the better driving American cities! Driving all over this country is just horrible. Californians think they have horrible drivers, clearly they've never been to DC, Boston, Miami, Baltimore, Nashville. Midwestern cities like Chicago or Detroit are much like this, where people seem to be staying in the lines, using turn signals, and following the rules, but in reality they're speeding more then they can actually handle because everyone else on the road is, not paying attention, and if a crisis like this happened they wouldn't know what to do any better than the drivers in this video. Drinking and driving or drugged driving is very very common, we pretend like it's some sort of social taboo but really the vast majority of people coming back from a party do it. Nobody actually calls Uber, and the host can't stop them if they just walk out the door unannounced. And they get away with it until they don't. They can stay within the lines and stop for red lights, but put an unexpected situation in front of them and they'll just crash without even trying to brake. After dinnertime, a double-digit percentage of drivers on the road are drunk, later at night it goes up to like a third.

      The cars not only were massive compared to modern cars but they had real "bumpers" on the front and back, so usually the most damage done to your car was the bumper was bent or broken off. Now half to most of the side hit gets damaged enough to get the car totaled.

A lot of times because people aren’t paying attention being on their phones and they see it at the very last second. And it’s why we put our flashers on to let everyone else know, and people still fly past us like it’s no big deal. Start your day how you want to end your day, get home safe.

      I think the person camming is a cop, even you could tell the radio chatter and the spotlight.
      I think 911 was already on scene. This guy probably knows there's gonna be an accident because of this, if someone is on the force long enough to tell something bad will happen you know him pulling out the camera is a sign.

      @@battlefennec No, he ends up calling the cops later on in the video. He doesn't speak like one. He'd also do a better job of directing a scene right then, on or off the clock. He's just the video boy. Not helpful in the slightest, not even his dinky spotlight. TBH, he probably unintentionally distracted other drivers, because they're having to watch for this guy with his car & spotlight on the side of the road. It takes a glance to watch out for him, and just that glance can be enough to miss what's right in front of them.

      It often times doesn’t matter how fast you drive. In many videos online you can see people in car accidents and getting cut in two, beheaded, skinned alive, crushed, etc etc. People think that “driving safe” will save you. Sure it may increase your chance of survival, but there’s ALWAYS risk. Some people reading this will one day end up in a video that’s not allowed on TH-cam.

    • @joshryder7242
      @joshryder7242 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Speed was a factor in this case, but you cannot tell what speed the vehicles were doing. It’s impossible not to drive “fast”, eg: motorway speeds. It’s more dangerous to drive slower with wagons overtaking you. The driver awareness was the main cause of these accidents. Fuckin horrific how bad the driving was in this video, is this generally the level of American driving ability or is this just a bad take?

      The issues with passersby stopping are a dark S LA Freeway with an accident and careening cars avoiding it going minimum 65mph. That's tricky for trained first responders without closing off traffic.
      Second, no one knows what they might be facing as far as helping people, especially in big cities. An overly litigious US has left a concern of giving assistance, because others they know/heard of did, and got sued for their trouble.

      Clear night? I mean it's not heavy dense fog but there is definitely some slight fog. You can see it from the beam of light, the sky, and the opposite traffic's glow of lights. Them pointing these bright lights probably blinded the drivers. There's a reason you don't use your highbeams on foggy nights. On top of that theyre using decommissioned cop cars? It looked like they had emergency lights on their cars. If anything they were probably confusing and distracting the drivers thinking the accident had pulled over to the side of the freeway. Always call 911 if you're in an accident on the freeway and can't move your car over safely, STAY IN THE DAMN CAR (unless it's on fire) and keep your emergency lights on if possible. I hope everyone made it out okay in that accident.
