    Thanks Matt for your idea! I used Bike handles with a metal pipe inside instead of plastic handles. Much more stable but a little heavier of course. I doubled the length of the 8mm rope. Then I can throw every rope across the high branch of a tree in order to connect both ends with another prusik knot. My training is not limited any longer to low branches in the forest. In this case the bike handle can be linked with the rope by only one loop at the lower end of the rope.

    Went the cheap way, used a small length of pvc cut it, using a blade for me was iffy seemed to be uneven & would gouge probably because I've cut myself so many times in the past & wasn't comfortable lol. Since I like fire, I melted the edges smooth followed by your rdp pull up handles finishing touches. Used a single loop prusic to connect the handles for standing rows when all I have around is vertical objects. Whew! In a nut shell, thank you so much for these videos!!

    Great job! You could also get one 12-17 foot main rope and run it through an appropriately sized Runstan pulley. Attach your prusik grips to each end of the rope. Use a carabiner to attach a door anchor to the swivel on top of the pulley.

    I've made mine and I prefer a rubber hose of suitable dimensions for a handle. It does not fray the handle rope at all. Long time ago I used to loop ratchet straps over my pullup bar with rubber hose handles too. That worked just as well.
    In preparation for sailing season I like working out with handles made out of the rope itself. It's a bit advanced to make (no biggie for a sailor, obviously) but it helps in conditioning the skin of hands to this specific stress. Less blistering afterwards, even if the winds blow well.

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good tips, I've also played around with making handle ropes and haven't found anything quite suitable yet. Any tips you could share?

    • @bakters
      @bakters 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @RedDeltaProject - When I use rope handles, I don't use prussik loops at all. I just shorten the main line to the required length at the bar itself. It's easy and quick. I use mooring hitch for that (www.netknots.com/rope_knots/mooring-hitch).
      The knot I use for rope handles apparently is called "heaving line knot" in English. It's tied in two versions, but the one I chose is shown on wikipedia entry. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaving_line_knot)
      As you can see, there is a bit of rope sticking out at the loose end, right after this thick coil which forms the handle. You can grab this coil and use it as is, which is good conditioning too, but for heavier work I prefer to leave this end bit longer and form a loop, with the coil in the middle becoming a standard horizontal handle.
      Obviously a bit thicker rope would be required than what you tend to use, or you can put a dowel or pvc inside the coil to make it thicker and easier to grab.
      Hope it all isn't too confusing... Much easier to show, that for sure.

  • @dardobartoli

    Matt, thanks so much for this. I have been making DIY and buying knock off TRX bands for a few years now. Your approach is by far the best; simple, clean, secure etc.
    However, I have made some changes and additoins. See what you think:
    First I use a single piece for the main suspension rope and then simply loop the rope over and through itself to the anchor.
    Second, I hold back the spare rope either with a sliding knot or road bike innter tube. Thus when the handles are high up the main rope, the ends are dangling annoyingly about.
    Thirdly, for use in hotels etc, I use previously made door anchors made from strap/webbing (lorry load securing stuff).
    Would add pictures if I could.
    Thanks for this excellent method.
    Bob

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All great ideas there Bob. I usually much prefer a dual anchor point system as I find those a more versatile, but in some cases (like in a doorway) a single anchor point is simpler and just easier to use. Great call on the use of the bike tube. I would love to see pics of that if you get a chance (reddeltaproject@gmailcom)

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best time to use finishers is at the end of a workout 😅
      But in all seriousness, i prefer to use a finisher as a bonus exercise when I'm feeling up to it. Doing them all the time just makes them part of the normal routine and it's easy to pace yourself in preparation for them. Save them for your days when you're having a great workout.

    Just out of curiosity, roughly what does the 8mm line run for you? I was searching Amazon and ran across some Nylon dock line, which comes in 3/8" and 1/2" and can get it in 15' lengths. The nice thing is that one end is already looped and woven/sown so there is no need for the top knot, you would either cut it shorter or leave it at 15'. I was just trying to get a gauge for what would be a good price for materials. I've been wanting suspension trainers and I'm excited to get started on this.

    Is that polypropylene rope? If not, what kind is it? And would the polypropylene be suitable? • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The prussik is a cinch knot, so the harder you pull on it, the tighter it holds.
      If you use two ropes that's the same diameter it may not hold quite as well. That's why you want a 2:1 rain in the diameter of the rope.

      @@RedDeltaProject it's a fairly simple concept. You have a 2 meter chain with a snap link at each end. You will also need a 50 cm chain and a 20 cm steel pipe. Insert the small chain through the pipe and then lock both ends to one of the snap links on the long chain. You now have one of the suspension trainer. Do the same for the second one. You can use the unused snap links to lock the suspension trainers to a bar/hooks in the ceiling etc. The handle (pipe + short chain + snap link) height can be adjusted easily by clipping the snap link anywhere on the chain. It sounds harder than it is. You'll get the logic as soon as you have all the items, don't worry. I really hope you try this. It works wonders for me. Cheers.
