"Choke Self" functions like....let’s say you had an 808 on a pad, or any sound with a long sustain/release time. Re-triggering the same pad cuts itself off to prevent the sound from overlapping, which may cause a peak in levels and/ or flanging, when triggered in rapid successions. The triggering behavior is similar to playing keyboard Bass where the polyphony is set to 1/or mono. It’s difficult to hear the effect when you are playing a sound with a very short release.
Just moved into 4.5 this week....saw the XT obviously knew something about it whereas now I feel like I could use it in my workflow....all based on your easy to follow tutorial
I appreciate it, Jamie. I'm actually back in the states at the moment but am hoping to return to Asia in the next several months, if I can make it happen! Thanks for supporting the channel!
Just bought Studio One 4 coming from Ableton Live 10, and this really helped me a lot. Thanks. Are you going to do one for Sample One XT? Thanks again.
Thanks for hangin' in there and supporting the channel, Leuvierre. I recently received some good news that has got me motivated on the tuts and creating new music so there should be much more on the way soon!
Great tutorial. Any way to set the sample start & end markers/flags via a midi encoder/knob, for the focused pad? If so, that would make ImpactXT insanely dope. And it should absolutely be a separate VST plugin so it can be used in any DAW!
The only thing going missing, and I don't know why.... is pad layer start delay/nudge. Most other drum samplers that allow stacking does it. I wonder why such a common feature has been missing from Impakt for years now. Instead, we have "extra" start and end offset settings, which seem pretty redundant.
You can click on the top tab for the layered sample you'd like to adjust (the tab above the sample display window) and then drag the start marker to where you'd like... You will see these gray tabs at the top of the sample display window for each sample that you drag in to layer.
But why not possibility to fade sample like in ableton drum rack, it's more convenient than just decay mode in my opinion. Trifle, but nice. Hope it will be add in new updates.
I wish I watched your video earlier. I just create a home recording studio, preSonus studio one 4. I was trying to use impact xt in one of my track now any time I use another track, i am having a constant noice in all tracks. I don't know how to get the noice out
two questions. How can I make all the added kits default to mono? Also, can I set the 16 pads to spread across a set of pitches, say C0 to D1 - the imported kits seems to vary around where they are mapped. I know I can do them separately and save them but it's a bit tedious
It has taken me 2 years to learn Studio One 3 to my novice level and now Presonus release this new version 😆 I will add this to my playlist ready for when I get v4. Do you think it's that much better than v3 and worth over £120? They want about £125 from me to upgrade from v3 to v4 but I think I'll wait until they send me offers like black Friday etc because 1) I can't afford it yet, and 2) my pc is pretty old, windows 7, with a pentium dual core and 8gb RAM and that barely meets the system requirements for Studio One 3 yet alone 4. So I'm probably going to have to try and either upgrade the pc I have or buy a newer one with better specs but don't want to spend too much money. Do you have any recommendations for a decent cpu and memory that will give me better performance, less lag, and keeps that dreaded cpu usage bar low because sometimes mine is too close to the red than I'd like, sometimes I get crackles, pops and other artifacts which isn't really acceptable. Also would you use a laptop or a desktop if you had the choice? I don't know much about computer jargon sorry for the long question mate.
I just fell into the trap of upgrading to V4 and now find out that all my Waves plugins do not work in V4. If you have lots of 3rd party plugins in V3, I would confirm with your plugin suppliers about any compatibility issues before upgrading to V4.
To piggy-back on what Earle has stated, first, download the free demo version of S14 and be sure that the new features add value to your production method! If it doesn't, there's no need to upgrade. For me, personally, the updates to Impact and Sample One are worth the cost as the music I produce involves the heavy manipulation of samples. I don't really care about he chord track and drum sequencer. I like to play live, as much as possible. Regarding your question about computer specs, that's quite involved to go into via this medium. Processor specs alone are so convoluted that there is no way to cover all of that, here. I will say, however, as someone who is using a laptop that has a 2.1GHz dual core Pentium processor and 4 Gigs of RAM, I too experience clicks and pops on certain patches when trying to use Mai Tai, for instance. But I can still get tracks done based on the type of music I'm creating. The last thing I'd say is, the more VSTs, effects, and tracks you use in your music, the more powerful computer you'll need. I'm a minimalist in my tracks, so even though I''d like a new puter, I can still make this one work, for now.
Thanks for the replies guys 👍 I don't have a great deal of plugins apart from the freebies from presonus and a few freebies I've downloaded from the Internet but I think I'll wait a while until I get a newer pc and also wait for presonus to email me with a discounted offer I can't refuse. You can bet there'll be some performance problems and bugs in the software, there usually is with most things you buy so by the time I get it they should have patched it up and fixed any issues there are with it. It's the same when you buy a new release xbox game and the developers spend the next few months patching up the glitches, it happens all the time so I rarely buy brand new releases of any software for that reason. I know that Studio One 3 was patched up and updated quite a few times to fix the bugs and I can't imagine that v4 will be any different, so yeh, my mind is made up for the moment. Cheers.
Can I program sound effects (ie clapping, scream, suspense sound effect) from my hard drive into the keypads on the Presonus Atom so that I can use them for my podcast?
For sure. Just use the Studio One browser to navigate to the folder containing the audio files you'd like to use and drag them to any available pads in the Impact instrument. You could also drag them to the Impact pads from your Explorer window in Windows, or Finder window on the Mac. The Atom is already set up to tripper the pads in Impact, so all you need to do is add the samples you'd like to use.
i have a q. when i add analog lab to the impact instrument it takes the sound from the impact and releases it in combined mode..how do i resolve that !
HI . amazing video , I need help . in Impact XT I used a sample (TM pop rock kit) and each paddle has 6 sound, (example: Snare rim , has 6 velocity sitting ). if I select sound 1 of the Snare Rim ) and tray to record it the pattern mode , it doesn't record the selected sound , it record only sound 6 , I tried deferent way but I couldn't . I don't know if that from IMPACT XT or from PATTERN , how can I fix it ?
When you have a pad with multiple samples like that, it is the velocity that determines which one is played back. So, within the pattern editor window, you need to adjust the velocity level of each drum hit/note so that it triggers the particular sample you want. This could be tedious to adjust each one, so I would highlight all of the MIDI notes for the particular snare and adjust them all at once.
Hey, new to producing...if I want to load different samples onto the pads so I can rearrange and stack them, where do I find the samples to do that? I saw how to do that, I just don't see where the samples actually are.
My computer is hooked up to my tv but is should have nothing to do with the resolution of the software when I open up and vst. Can someone please tell me how can I fix the resolution ? When I open impact xt it’s too big on the screen how can I adjust the size of the vst ?
If you're working on Windows, right-click on you computer desktop and choose "display settings". Within that window set it to 1920 X 1080...also, be sure that your scaling is at 100%.
Quanta oh man thanks that really helped I thought I had to reinstall the software lol. My scaling was at 300 I switched it to 250. It’s fine now. Thanks.
You can manually create a MIDI part and add notes within it to trigger XT. Or you can set up your QWERTY keyboard to trigger it as well. I show how to use your QWERTY keyboard as a controller, here: th-cam.com/video/DvdYwrDy_uo/w-d-xo.html
@@quantaaudio looking forward to seeing it. Just watched Part I which was really helpful, thanks. I'd never used Impact before, but having just got an Atom I'm really getting into it.
Good question! I've been thinking about this, myself. Definitely Battery has more features - that's no question. But are you going to use them all is the thing. It all depends on the type of music you're making. You can still do a lot with Impact, too. And it's integration with S1 is tight and there are a few workflow features that Impact has over Battery due to it being made with S1. It's all personal to the individual, as with most of this audio software stuff...
🤔🤔🤔 In new 4 version of Studio One samplers Impact and SampleOne don't coping used samples in to pool and project folders (Media and Samples)!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a really helpful video there - thank you. No waffle, just clear concise information and good communication. Thank you!
As a beginner in music, and just installed Studio One.. i'm very gratefull to Quanta for making these in depth tutorials!
Fantastic narrative. Well spoken and extremely helpful, thank you.
Studio one is just awesome best daw out right now, without a doubt.

Great video sir! Please keep making videos. Well appreciated.
Thanks for checking out the tutorial and taking a second to comment, Giuliano. Best!
P E R F E C T man I needed this, part II time. great job. love the direct short & sweet approach to your teaching.
Cool, glad it was helpful. Thanks for supporting the channel.
You know how to teach. Thanks a lot. BTW, you should consider getting patrons. I'm sure people will support you. I would.
I appreciate it, Marcos. Thanks for your comment and supporting the channel.
bro that very first pad focus tip just lifted like a 3 year burden off my mind. wow thank you lol

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful!
Just bought Studio One 4 coming from Propellerhead Treason. Subbed.
Appreciate the sub! I do love Propellerhead "Treason", though. Haha.
Very good job. The best.
Appreciate it, Joey. Thanks for watching and the comment.
great tutorial ... definitely needed this

Just bought Studio One 4 coming from Ableton Live 10, and this really helped me a lot. Thanks. Are you going to do one for Sample One XT? Thanks again.
Salutations. I heard a lot of good things about Ableton, may i ask what attracted you to Studio One 4?
Great information.
Great vid. Loads of little (and big) tips. I didn't spot the 'bank contains sample' light.
Thanks, Mark. Glad you found a few bits of helpful info!
Yay, you are back!

Very useful
i want in Impact on the Snare turn on reverb effect. what i can it? can you explaining it?
How to make a Impact XT play sounds in Bank B? If I load samples into any banks other than Bank A, only samples from Bank A will sound.
By clicking bank A on your mini 🤦♂️
Banks are on different octaves across keyboard.
Can you move the sound on a pad to a different pad by dragging?
I'm on a Macbook and it's not letting me do it. Supposedly Ctrl+Drag should work, but it's not working for me. Will continue to try.
Great tutorial. Any way to set the sample start & end markers/flags via a midi encoder/knob, for the focused pad? If so, that would make ImpactXT insanely dope. And it should absolutely be a separate VST plugin so it can be used in any DAW!
Unfortunately that does not appear to be a possibly, at least at this time...
Using EZDrummer2 with ADAM in Presonus 4.6 ? How to . . . thank s for your Consideration !
Great tutorial bravo bravo ! where can we find the part II pls ?
It should be up shortly!
Do you choose mono or stereo output? Can't really hear the difference. Can you explain why/when to choose one over the other? Thank you

Can you create a custom pad set from the sounds that come with Studio One 4? They're all contained within one huge .soundset file.
You're not the first to ask, I've whipped up a quick vid on that, here: th-cam.com/video/ev2yfgorBm4/w-d-xo.html
HI . amazing video , I need help .

Ok. I have a stupid question. Please don’t judge. Is there a way to use my iPhone or iPad as a midi controller in studio one?
I don't know much about it, but apparently there are some apps for that... www.musicradar.com/news/6-of-the-best-ios-midi-controller-apps

this video will nail it for you as it did just yesturday for me. th-cam.com/video/ev2yfgorBm4/w-d-xo.html
how to work fade in and fade out in impact xt ?
You can use the "Amp" section for this. th-cam.com/video/0hmVVIL4JgQ/w-d-xo.html
Can you assign wav samples to the pads?
Indeed.

Quanta ok not at home now I will definitely check it out when I come home. Thanks for the info. Where do I find the scaling settings ?
It's directly above the resolution settings. Just look for "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" and be sure that that setting is at 100%.
Quanta ok thanks can’t wait
Quanta oh man thanks that really helped I thought I had to reinstall the software lol. My scaling was at 300 I switched it to 250. It’s fine now. Thanks.
part 2?
At a this time it is my favorite fun instrument. Takes zero skil lto play and it is allot of fun.
Can we use xt without a midi hardware?
You can manually create a MIDI part and add notes within it to trigger XT. Or you can set up your QWERTY keyboard to trigger it as well. I show how to use your QWERTY keyboard as a controller, here: th-cam.com/video/DvdYwrDy_uo/w-d-xo.html
where is episode 2?
It should be up in a few days...
@@quantaaudio looking forward to seeing it. Just watched Part I which was really helpful, thanks. I'd never used Impact before, but having just got an Atom I'm really getting into it.
Is Xt impact only in pro edition?
It's available in the artist and professional versions. It's not available in prime, the free version.
where is stretch factor for each sample ?????
It seems that feature has been replaced with the "Follow Tempo" button.
Ta fella.
You need a controller to really explain choke groups

Yes, I cover that here: th-cam.com/video/SbMnLMSTV1w/w-d-xo.html
I thought thats what toggle does.
🤔🤔🤔 In new 4 version of Studio One samplers Impact and SampleOne don't coping used samples in to pool and project folders (Media and Samples)!!!!!!!!!!!
When I go on impact it don’t show sound kits it just says default
Ryan, it sounds like you need to log in to your Presonus account and download the drum content/soundset...
Learn. Meaning lets trigger multiple samples based on velocity 👎
Very helpful
