In this extended video, Russ shows the power of Studio One 4 to take an audio loop and transform timing sound and more.
He uses Impact XT and Patterns to take loop manipulation to another level.

Russ, how did you manage, that from 1:30 the pads where you dragged the slices on have automatically full zoom enabled???
I cannot make that happen here... if I drag the slices into Impact, every pad is full zoomed out (showing the full loop)...

Is it possible to do the same but instead of equal length slices, based on transient slices without extra VST's? This would mean an export to piano roll instead of using the pattern editor as it's not necessarily quantized. What happens if your grid setting is 32nd notes? Will it put the other 16 slices on the next bank or will it put layers or something? Will it overwrite any existing samples on a pad?

Great tip. If you really were gonna do this for a song, The first thing I would do after setting up the base pattern is preserve it by adding a new VARIATION (the plus sign on the far left of screen) for each permutation.
this is cool, I really think that they have got to work on the 'paint' tool in the midi editor, it's so clunky and slow. My suggestion would be for CLICK AND HOLD for painting in notes, and a quicker and more visually pleasing/ logically layed out way to divide the grid (similar to Ableton). that being said.... that repeat function is Absolutely Awesome!!!
Another step in this technique would be to also use the step probability in the pattern editor.

Just rewatched this video, very helpful thank you. Does anyone know how to have the zoom in Impact XT set up so that it always shows the exact sample's length (a zoom that only goes from the start to the end points, as shown in this video)? When I do split at grid, then Shift-drag the samples into Impact XT, the whole loop always shows in Impact XT's window (playback per pad/sample works as expected, it's just the whole loop is always displayed and not zoomed in to the sliced sample). Yes, Impact XT has that. The option is at bottom right I guess, to assign different mixer channels

I only chops if I click the sample and send to new impact. But if I split at grid and send to new impact or select all the samples and hold shift on a pad it doesn’t chop it’s just the whole sample across the pads.

Most probably, you pressed Ctrl-P instead of Ctrl-Shift-P when you wanted to create the pattern

I have not upgraded yet, so I can't be 100% certain, but my guess is that the number in the bottom right corner of the pad indicates the audio output. Impact's audio outputs are activated by expanding its instance in the mixer's instruments section.

On the bittom of each pad there is an double circle icon that you click and it opens the mono/stereo outputs list
Alex Dawson also you can use "explode by pitch " and bounce em individual channels if you got it in one midi file
Impact XT provides 16 stereo outputs and 16 mono outputs for each pad. To change the output routing, click on the Output selection box below the desired pads and choose the desired Output Channel for each pad. If the Output Channel does not already exist in the Console, it is added automatically.

You can't use 32bit VSTs with a 64 bit version of Presonus.
