Yall know that show on HBO Young Pope? (And the sequel series/season two New Pope?) This fuckin happens! There's a pope that says "Aight. We all live in poverty now to feed the poor and save refugees" And then he has a heart attack and falls down the stairs.
It is played exclusively for drama

Uhmmmmmmmm. :'D the show is supposed to be about Pete Holmes making it, but imo John Mulaney's bit was much funnier? Is it just me?

He was supposed to be better, the point of the show is that Pete Holmes is at the beginning whereas Mulaney was fully established at this point.

Also I'm not sure but i listened to Pete's podcast with John and he mentions that his writers have written pages of 'mulany standup' for a possible cameo that hadn't happened yet. So it's possible that those jokes were not written by him.

No it's everyone...and I'd wager it's very obvious for them. Pete's still an opener, not a overly strong middle act on the way to headlining, but he didn't bomb. That's the point of the scene. Not that he should be funnier than the headliner. These people came to see a specific act they already know and love. It isn't the opener's crowd.
