    Thank you for the reviews of this! I finally just upgraded to it from my A7ii and it is A DREAM! My favorite part is how well thought out the customization and shooting process are. Every button can be set to change any option, and it even has a "black and white live view" mode which makes manual focusing easier, but still allows you to see the color image. Plus, I got 1500+ shots out of the first battery charge!
    It's a gorgeous camera and I completely agree with your review.

    I just got back from my local store and was very impressed by this camera, the A7iii I had in my hands before this suddenly felt like a toy. The EVF is stunningly good and the haptic feel of this thing is phenomenal. Also the autofocus seemed very ok with the kit lens as well. I´m very, very tempted now to sell all my canon gear and get this...

    Great review, as always. I have the S1 and absolutely love it. I use only all manual adapted lenses (milvus f mount) and love the look that this camera is getting with these lenses. I am finding, though, one small problem. I am unable to remove the four cornered focus box from both the EVF and back screen. Not a big deal at all, but just wondering if you were having this problem. Perhaps it will be addressed in an future firmware update. Thanks again for a great review!

    Boy am. I stuck... A9... S1... A9...S1...faster autofocus...faster card slot... E-mount...L-Mount...smaller lighter body...Larger more comfortable body...then there’s the colours... I really don’t know anybody who buys a system for “Sony colour science”, nor for “Panny colour silence” no flat profile for cine...paid upgrade flat profile for cine coming soon...1k more expensive...1k less expensive... older more advanced sensor...newer less advanced sensor/engine...this is a tough choice...any thoughts? The three main uses for me would be cityscapes, portraits & HDR. I would like to get into Astro photography as well.

      Drew Robertson I suggest you get the Panasonic S1 for your need ( cityscape , portrait , and HDR , as well as the astro photography because the autofocus is more than enough for your needs . As a matter a fact for astro photography you need extra battery life which you can use battery juice while you shooting astro .

    The s1R really appeals to me, I pretty much exclusively shoot landscapes so don’t even use autofocus, love to ergonomics, toughness and viewfinder. I’m in the market for a high megapixel mirrorless so am waiting for the Nikon Z8 and Canon high megapixel RF to weigh up my options. Exciting times to have GAS.

    I keep going back and forth on the S1 vs. S1R vs. SL or waiting for the SL2. Most people think that the S1 uses a Sony sensor while the S1R uses a TowerJazz. Looking at cameras that have had Sony sensors don’t seem to have the same color as Leica’s which have used TowerJazz. I realize that each manufacturer has its own color profile though and Panasonic’s is looking pretty good in both of their full frame cameras but I think I still prefer Leica color.

    • @8020Alive
      @8020Alive 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All those tower jazz sensor myths for Nikon we're debunked and there is no reason to think they make anything for Panasonic either.
      Regardless, DXO mark and dozens of other websites have both S1 and R performing well as long as AF tracking isn't something you value.
      Easy to rent from lens rentals online, so no point in stressing over them....try them.

    • @Bryan-lu4du
      @Bryan-lu4du 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J. T. The difference here is the full name of the company is “TowerJazz Panasonic Semiconductor Co” ... I would be surprised if they didn’t use their own sensor on at least some of their cameras. Leica at least has confirmed they use TowerJazz Panasonic.

      I will say the Q2 uses the S1R sensor and it lacks IMO. Low light is abysmal (as shown in my Q2 review) but if you only shoot in good light, and want to crop a lot then the S1R would be it. Since I shoot in low light often I love the S1. The SL2 will use the higher res sensor like the S1R and Q2, which for me, makes it a non starter. My opinion is anything over 24MP is for fluff and marketing. I do not see the need. We have master works of art that were created on 35mm film which is much lower resolution than what we have today. But again, higher res brings cropping power which some like.

      @@Bryan-lu4du Panasonic was working with Fujifilm on sensor tech for several years. It may be the same base sensor from Sony yet with anti-reflective coatings and more sophisticated dyes for the colour filter. The G9 and GH5 were significant improvements in colour, and I think that Fuji and Leica co-ordination explain it.
      Certainly they outclass the Alphas significantly; the A7III has good colour compared with the earlier ones (incl. A9, A7RIII), but doesn't look good next to the S1.
      There were also reports of collaboration between Fujifilm and Samsung for the chemicals used between pixels (for better colour integrity) so we may see Samsung sensors enter the fray soon.

  • @photographer17

    Is S1 photo's colour comparable to SL? That is an important respect to consider.

      I’ve looked at hundreds reviews in many languages and all reviews are very positive, most agree this has surpassed the SL and is atop the FF pro mirrorless camera mountain. There is no way anything even begins to approach this camera. If you want to argue about a few milliseconds of auto focus tracking, you missed the train, it’s left the station.

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All depends on your needs. If you always crop, then 42 and above is useful. If you value DR and low light and do not crop a ton, 24 MP is the sweet spot. The S1R low light performance is not anywhere near the S1, so all depends on preference.

    Your review should state near perfect camera for manual focus photography. How come did you not do the stress test of AF in the night club like you did with other cameras ? Because in AF it's not that exciting now is it ? Infact this review carefully skim over the huge flaw regarding the really bad AF of this camera FOR Still PHOTOGRAPHY. At least give it the same walk of truth as the Eos r and Nikon z series .

    • @hakeem-ji
      @hakeem-ji 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nop, for still photos, AF is near perfect and so it's in low light.
      the only glitch is AF-C in videos, where mostly videographers are manual focus anyways.

    For Photo shots the S1 is Average, the Auto Focus hunts and misses mote than my liking. After using it for 5 hours the weight is a problem and the Auto focus is worse than it should be. Perhaps when they fix the Auto focus when in a back lit view ... It would not focus? Unacceptable for such a camera.

      The A9 is the best sports camera ATM. But if you're not shooting sport, the S1 could very well be superior, depending on what metrics you're using. Personally, if I had to shoot sport (and that's not likely!) I'd start with Olympus and move to the A9 if I absolutely had to. :-)
