Rock leaving with Kain was the big cliffhanger of the last game. That largely ensured his return.
Yeah Kain like... Is MotW whole plot, I'd be mad if they abandoned him lol. Would be nonsensical with the almost 30 year cliffhanger

Since the season 1 dlc is “technically” free, I could see some of the more standard characters like Andy and Joe being dlc
I would have expected those 2 for sure.
I'm all for Kim Dong Hwan and Kin Jae Hoon making it to the main roster along with Freeman. Let the surprises be the DLC.

Looks like Dong made it. Assuming Gato, Kain, and Hoto are in, I'm assuming the last two are either Freeman and a new villain character or Jae Hoon and a new villain. Obviously I'd love for them to both be in the base, especially Freeman. He's easily my most wanted right now.
I'm truly surprised Dong Hwan made base, and I'm absolutey certain that Jae Hoon will not be far behind him in the base roster too. At this point I'm really starting to think the base roster is going to have everyone from MotW + Mai, Billy, Vox and Preecha with Andy, Joe and Blue Mary as DLC.

@@Ragiroth 100%, that's my thinking as well. People can't really complain about having to pay for Andy and Joe if they're included in the price of the game. It's a really smart play by SNK actually.
Gato has a very high chance of returning, since they already made him in 3D for KOF XV.
Plus his sister Hotaru is already confirmed

I think hokutomaru originally was voiced by Naruto’s VA. It would have been nice to see them to return with a deeper voice like in shippuden.
I'd say my initial prediction for the final six is, for now:
- Gato (was in KOF XV and Hotaru's entire story beat revolves around finding him, so I feel he's kinda necessary to be in alongside her)
- Kain (boss of the original game and was in the first teaser art along with Billy and Rock)
- Freeman (following the same logic as Gato, Kevin's story is centered on getting revenge on him so I feel like his inclusion should lead to Freeman being on the roster from the get-go)
- Andy (on the second teaser poster and I feel like if he's teased, he'd be main roster rather than DLC. But that's just speculation on my part)
- Joe (same as Andy)
- Another new character (with how they've emphasized new blood being a part of this game's roster, I feel like we'll get at least one more completely new character. Maybe a new boss?)

You think exactly the same as me! However, I believe that the last character will be Hokutomaru because then all the legendary trio will have their respective disciples in the main cast. For the first season of DLC's I bet on Kim Jae Hoon, Kim Dong Hwan, Rick Strowd, Duck King and Li Xiangfei.

Pretty sure one of the DLC characters will be an SF guest.
Terry's SF6 story is literally visiting Ken "after 20 years," which matches the release date of SNK vs. Capcom Chaos. A game that SNK just re-released.
There is even a beyond cool illustration of Terry and Ken meeting on an alley in metro city done by Shinkiro.
As for who the guest could be I would say Chun would be cool just to see the rivalry between the two first ladies of fighting games.

Give me the Kim twins over Joe and Andy on the base roster, after all this is a Garou follow up (also we have Mai on the base roster, that's the one people would had been pissed if she was DLC). Also Grant who's been mentioned indirectly via Vox's and Jenny's bio might be DLC.

Rick Strowd will be the final character. They done said one of the characters on the roster will make us go "Oh!" And I think Rick will do such a thing.

As far as the new boss/mid-boss is concerned, it can be Gato’s father. We saw that he saved Kain in Gato’s ending.
In my opinion, the base roster should be retained before introducing new/oldFatal Fury characters.
Bringing in Kim over his sons is gonna be foul. We have to realise that Kim is gonna be old. His sons are 20+ in City of the Wolves. Let the man rest.

The implication of the for the first two characters of season being summer 2025 to me isnt that theyll release on the same day. Rather that they'll be on opposite ends of the season. Likd the first releasing probably around late May or sometime in June and the second character releasing in August.
That's an interesting way of looking at it that I honestly didn't think of. It's certainly possible it could mean early and late Summer instead of releasing at the same time, but my question there would be why would they not just say that? I know it's possibly because they haven't nailed down dates yet but I'm absolutely not the only one that's assuming the first two DLC characters are dropping at once so I think that's something they should clarify.
@@scotiaviii thing is, SNK has done it before. With KoF15 season 2, both Sylvie and Najd both had a release window for "summer, 2023" and released on different dates.

My wishlist is Yamazaki, Blue Mary, Freeman, Bob Wilson, Kim Dong Hwan, Franco Bash, Rick Strowd, and the Chonshu brothers if they do something interesting with their gameplay based on their Real Bout 2 endings. I think Joe shouldn't be base roster because it gives Preecha no room to shine on her own. I'd be ok with Andy but he would be a third shoto in a 17 character base roster when there are a plethora of fighting styles that they could pick from instead. As for guest characters I don't want to see Ryu, Ken, Ryo, Kyo, or Iori unless they put them in season pass 3 or 4 but I'm not losing sleep if they don't show up at all. They have shown up as guest characters multiple times in SNK or other franchises and I would like some different picks that are not obvious or overdone.
Didn't they say there will be 17 returning characters and 5 newcomers in the base roster. I am pretty sure the base roster is 22. So we would still have 8 returning characters and 3 newcomers that are still to be announced for the base roster.
No they've pretty explicitly stated that the game is launching with 17 characters and you get 5 more included with Season 1 to make it 22.

The English version was poorly phrased. The Japanese version is much clearer. 17 base and 5 dlc.

My theory is that we get 2 more newcomers, Gato, Kain, Andy, and Joe. The Kawphan twins will be the first two dlc characters since the first two are at the same time in summer. A Garou Return character, a Fatal Fury legacy character and an additional new comer. Just my theory.
If you end up being right, I'd bet that last newcomer is the new boss/midboss character
The last remaining base roster characters will be imo are Gato, Jae Hoon, Dong Hwan, Freeman, kaine Andy, Joe and Hokutomaru.
Are we forgetting that Yamazaki is the gym buster in Marcos ending in the Mark of the Wolves?
Xiangfei and Duck King are the characters I would most like to see added to the roster.
My theory is sort of in between your 1st and 2nd. I think we see Andy and Joe, but I think Freeman is a high chance for the 17(and almost guaranteed in the 22, I think), for a couple reasons. One: They mentioned wanting to get MotW narrative threads dealt with, and he's part of it. Two: He's actively mentioned in Kevin's story as the reason he's there. Without Freeman, Kevin's there just twiddling his thumbs waiting on him. This I think leads into them mentioning the MotW stuff. That said there's a chance he might move to the 22 since I feel like they want to count that as ''Main'', since I also think they wanted to launch with 22 but couldn't make it in time. This is why I admit I'm unsure about things since if they 'count' that 22 as part of the base, which they seem to be marketing it as(what with mentioning 22 before the 17 in the marketing material and dropping them free with the normal cost of the game), so it could be they still put some story characters in the summertime(like the Kim sons, etc.) I do think I can see someone like Geese(search ourselves we know it to be true), or Mr. Karate II in the 22. I think Gato/Hotaru's dad will show up, maybe not playable right away, but down the line. Yamazaki and Mary I do think are strong chances for the 22, but don't think the 17.
(As for other newcomers, Rock's mother is also described as frail and sickly in some past lore I recall, so fighting seems to not be something in her wheelhouse. She might be more of a 'mastermind.' Maybe they could retcon stuff, or maybe she's a wizard with the scrolls or something that lets her fight while not being physically strong? I dunno. That latter thing sounds like more of a KOF character.)

You should do a video on your stance on Capcom and their attitude towards their new generation. It seems to me that Capcom is ashamed of Street fighter 3 and releasing elena does not convince me otherwise
It is something I want to cover in depth but I think it's best to wait for CotW to release and what SF6 is doing for Season 3 before I do it, just to make sure I can be as fair as possible when comparing the two.
But yeah I do agree with you and also think that Elena being added doesn't mean they're treating 3 with any shred of respect.
My theory is things were supposed to be kicked off with Season 2 (5 characters, some Final Fight & SF3 representation), but they adjusted their plans in favor of SNK cross-promotion. So 2 slots were spent on guests and then they felt like the remaining 2 wouldn't be enough to commit to anything interesting properly.
As a result, no newcomers, no Final Fight or Alpha characters AGAIN, and they picked the safest SF3 rep... also here's Bison for some hype and money, again...
But Year 3 probably has a better shot. If they take a break from adding guest characters and potentially increase content pipeline in preparation for Super SF6, we're bound to have at least some of the long-time comings and overdues.

Yes, Elena is the safest pick *overall.* She's one of the only 3S characters not to have any ties to the Illuminati plot, on top of not having a loud audience advocating for her return, especially this soon.
Adding Elena doesn't obligate Capcom to anything, except maybe introducing her rivals down the line (Makoto, Sakura and Ibuki).
Talking about new characters: one character from Fatal Fury who was important storywise, but never that popular among players and also canonicaly dead is Wolfgang Krauser. It wouldn't be a bad idea to introduce her daughter as a new character. (Or son, but there are not many female characters yet in the game as you said)

Edit: Geese is 100% coming back at some point. Probably in season 2 to make people take out their wallets.

@@mrHowlll I don’t know much about the other two but I’d personally love Alfred to show up in this. I’m still relatively new to pre-MotW Fatal Fury but I’ve always liked the look of Alfred so would be happy if he came back.

I could see Mr. Karate aka Ryo being in this roster as DLC. He was actually one of the first crossover fighters in the Fatal Fury Dream Match.

Well when they released the first concept art, which featured Terry, Joe, Andy, SNK said they'll all be in. So, I take that as confirmation that Joe and Andy are in.
Are you really sure they EXPLICITLY said that Andy and Joe are in? There was an interview? Don't get me wrong, I'd love the rest of the Genesis 3 to be base roster, especially Andy, but I never saw SNK say it explicitly... We only have an indicative, as Billy and Kaim who also appeared in the artworks are a lock to be in.
@@rodrigogois when they first announced the game they showed 2 concept arts one had just Rock the other Terry, Joe, and Andy, they were asked about Joe and Andy. Their answer was "everyone in the concept art will be in the game", but Mai was missing. They asked about Mai and they said they couldn't comment on that at the moment, yet she made it in.
we need kim and his boys, i was kinda hoping the brothers made it in base game like other og characters but if we just get kim as a family representative thats okay as well in the season pass

The Summer DLC characters could also likely be Street Fighter characters. It's almost guaranteed there will be Street Fighter representation in the first season pass.

Kain is pretty much in. Hotakmaru will be amazing, I know Kim sons better be in the base roster😐. But Rick and Bob DEFINITELY needs to be in this game, Gato to, but I'm cool with DLC, along with the others. I would love andy and joe, but I feel like joes appearance will take away preecha shine a bit. Same with Andy sooo yeah. Now the Mr Karate version of Ryo would be amazing!
As old as Hoku sounds in that trailer, are you sure that's really him and not Andy? Andy trained Hoku in the first place. And while the attack in question is something that Andy hasn't had in the past, there's a pretty big time jump between RB2 and this game. There's no reason why he couldn't have that attack and ended up teaching it to Hoku.
I only bring this up because if my theory is correct, that would give us an extra open roster slot from your prediction. And did you really want Hoku back?
I'm sure it's him because A) it's Hokutomaru's move and I don't see why Andy should have it when he has plenty of his own moves to use. And B) is that the voice is nowhere close to Andy's who's had an established voice actor since XIV and I see no reason why they wouldn't return to voice him. The voice is also just way too young sounding to be him, it sounds more like a late-age teenager which is how old Hokutomaru is now at this point in the series (16).
As for whether I would want Hokutomaru back, the answer is yes of course I would. He's not my favourite character but he filled his own niche and the idea of him being aged up somewhat is interesting to me. Outside of Grant (who's already pretty much deconfirmed) I would hope that everyone from MotW returns at some point, Hokutomaru included.

If this game launches without Dong Hwan or Grant, I will be fucking *pissed.* Grant is already sidelined due to Vox Reaper. But no Dong Hwan, after Kim’s sons were both in MOTW’s roster? Absolute sacrilege.

The characters that have been teased in the "Audio Trailer" and Posters are pretty much:
-Kain
-Andy (Unlease they switch him for Free DLC)
-Joe (Unlease they switch him for Free DLC)

-Gato
I think the 7th character would be the New Boss or something.
For the 5 "DLC" characters I would guess the 2 ones that comes in Summer will be "The Kim Brothers"
Here's my personal wishlist of characters I hope will be in the game eventually:

-Jin Chonrei (Trained by Tung Fu Rue since Real Bout 2)
-Jin Shonsu (Trained by Kim since Real Bout 2)

The Newcomers from RB2 really need some rehabilitation, especialy Rick who's been snubed from KoF in favor of Vanessa.
Mr. Karate II need to finaly make his official appearence in canon outside of the dream match with Ryo in FFSpecial and the Wild Ambition Remake. Bridging FF and Art of Fighting for good.
Now the Jin bros is possibly a controversial pick but, lore wisz they would peetty much different characters. 10 years older and with new moves implemented with their training with Kim and Fu Rue. (Last point beeing still maintained in the lattest KoF games)
PS: I didn't pick the obvious such as Freeman, Blue Mary or Yamazaki because we know they will come up eventualy.
PPS: I have a feeling the 5 dlc should have been in the main game initialy but they pulled up the Special Edition Stunt to soften the blow. I mean the main game and 1st dlc pack cost the price of a new game. That shows good faith from SNK

You greatly overestimate Andy's popularity over far more popular Fatal Fury characters like Blue Mary
Me personally, I'd prefer Andy over Mary to be in the game any day. He is one of the Genesis 3. His popularity sure has been diminished over the years, mainly on how poor he has been handled by SNK in KOF, but his legacy and meaning in the series greatly surpasses Mary's. Not even a comparison.
@@rodrigogois legacy isn't what drives sales or playerbase, there are no Andy players in any legacy KoF or Fatal Fury titles on FC2

Aint no 8 year olds out there with that level of musculature. I would have accepted a Hokutomaru would have been at least a tween in MoTW and certainly not old enough for his voice to change (12-15). Him being 16 now would have a scratchier voice but whatever. Looking forward to him anyway, cause he was my main in the first game... sorry H.M., but I gotta primary Vox.
