Thank you. I have a couple of very cold walls and was wondering how difficult it would be to apply this stuff. Your tips have given me the confidence to go for it.
Great video, thanks. I am thinking of putting a thermal liner on the cold wall following your tips and then put wallrock lining paper on and apply paint on it. Is it worth putting on the lining paper or should I just paint the thermal liner?
I take it you can have radiators on walls lined with wallrock and there is no impact on the paper? Just wondering if there is any polystyrene in the paper that could melt if a radiators on full bung?!
I'm using this for the first time this week, thanks for such a useful and informative video, you have certainly saved me a lot of 'trial and error' time. Best wishes Haydn.
One thing I have found out by experience. These rolls are heavy. You need to use a good thickness of paste otherwise it just drops off. Pasting the wall and the insulation is in my opinion the best way of working. 🤔 Don’t try fixing below 10C
Great video. Quick question: How do you finish the external corners having cut down the crease ie round the window reveals If only applying emulsion over but not papering or lining? Likewise the top piece patched in the upper reveal above the window where it meets the paper on the wall above? Can't think hardstop filler on an external corner will work will it? Hope my question makes sense.
Excellent video! I have a question please. We have some rooms with wood chip paper. Apparently the Wallrock thermal liner is suitable to simply be used over the wood chip wallpaper without having to remove it first. Would you agree with this and is this advisable to do? Our wood chip paper is in very good condition and extremely well attached to the walls, so if we can use the thermal paper directly over it then it would be fantastic.
I am a painter and decorator and would never advise to paper over any older wallpaper. The only time I would hang additional paper is if I lined and papered or cross lined and papered as the paste/paper will all be hung within a few days. The paper that is in place may be nice and tight currently but as soon as paste is applied to the top of it, the moisture of the paste and then followed by paint can reactivate the paste making the paper become loose because the paste is old. I know its a paint but I would strip off. Use masking tape and light weight plastic on the skirts/floor to catch water and paper. Use a hedgehog to score holes in the paper, an industrial scraper to remove the top layer and either hot soapy water with a sponge or a good steam stripper not keeping the paddle in the same spot for too long as it can blow the plaster. Once paper is fully removed unattach masking tape (carefully if not repainting) and roll plastic up with all paper kept in the middle. Nice a clean finish just make sure your footwear is cleaned off before walking away as the grips hold the wet paper and paste in place.
Just a question re your comment about sealing using a vinyl paint before papering. Wall rock state not to wallpaper over this without lining it with the fibre liner due to warmth and cold expanding and contracting showing gaps in the paper. Will your comment about sealing with paint do the same job?
Thanks for the demonstration I will be using wallrock liner tomorrow I hope it goes as well as yours did, handy tip about using emulsion paint before applying the decorative paper as well.
@@PaintingandDecorating It went well still got some to do tomorrow but your tips regarding using the bradawl to mark the cuts and using a blade to score the folds into the window reveal were a great help, couldn't have done it without you mate cheers!
Hi thank you firstly for all you videos, as a mature level one P&D student I have found them really helpful. Decorating in the real world. Would this be the paper yo use on a wall that really could do with the plastering hacked off and redone. Does it just mould to the underlying issues or is it thick enough to smooth them out? Thanks Natalie
Hi mate, ever hung the 1mm thick cosy liner? Wondering whether to use the 3mm or 1mm version as a thick lining paper to make some bumpy old walls 'flat' again.
Great video👏 I’m about to fit this same liner, then put a paper on top, you mention to seal it before wallpaper goes on to, paint only to seal? Or could i use diluted pva or a damp seal paint please? Thank you
@@lauranovember527 Hi yes i did fit it and it does feel warmer in the room. Used recommended wall paste which is a must, and don't be shy putting a good layer on wall to make sure it sticks correctly. Its a tad tricky around corners, I used a plastic smoother which is essential in smoothing out the thick liner correctly, just take your time as i did as its very different in handling compared to normal wallpaper.
The patches you put in, would you normally fill the gaps as a matter of course or are you confident that they wouldn't show through the finished paper?
I love the way you demonstrate paying great attention to detail. These tips were particularly helpful to me: The angle you held the bradawl and pencil in the corners to ensure a neat joint. That you let the strip dry above the window reveal before trimming. Question: As you are papering over this Wallrock thermal lining paper why are you hanging it vertically rather than horizontally. Thanks.
Thanks, it worked out better to do it this way. With this thermal lining paper your better hanging in large pieces. If I'd hung it horizontally it would have been more difficult around the windows.
Wish I’d of watched this before I hung 1000 grade lining paper on my bedroom walls, I can see all the marks on the wall coming through so I’m pulling it down and going to get this. Your such a good decorator wish you could do mine 😊
Great advice and thorough instructions thanks. Just wondering how you would finish the corner on the window reveal where you scored down it with the blade if just painting directly onto this? Just a filler or would you recommend always using lining paper beforehand? Thanks!
Nice one! Thanks very much I've been looking for someone who 'knows their sh*t' putting this stuff on. Thanks loads I'd buy you a pint if I could. Best wishes, Dave
I NEED SOME HELP…. I’m using the 4mm red label. I’m getting 2 perfect lengths (half a roll) but the other 2 lengths look awful! It’s full of lines where it’s been rolled up and I can’t get them out. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can remove the lines?
As long as no damp in the walls it should help keep your house warmer for longer, after having the heat on. I do have some exterior walls done in it and it does help.
Yes it's worked really well here . We have an 1800s house with solid walls and it used to suffer badly from condensation in winter on the gable wall. Wallrock solved the problem for us 8 years ago and have since done other parts of the house.
Painting and Decorating Great video! Makes you wonder why all paper isn't applied to walls pasted with paste or adhesive. Can you tell me how long you have before the adhesive goes off? Also will old, set adhesive come off with steaming in years to come?
Depends on the humidity of the day. But about 20 mins before adesive is drying. And yes it can be removed with steam stripper. Not stripped any off yet.
Get yourself an olfa trimming knife and a zinnzser wallwiz, scissors are obsolete for linings, can't get the suction on the paper in the corners using a bristle brush. 🍺
love how you don't see the finished room with the painging done showing all the seams that paper does :D it's not ment to be put on walls you can see and all the joins will show once the paint dries out xD

Hi, is it any good? did you notice any change on the temperature, I am thinking to do the same. Thanks.
I plan to wallpaper afterwards, Thanks for the tip painting the paper in good quality vinyl emulsion. Is that 1 coat or 2?
Thanks. Two coats.

I also wondered that. That gap on the edge. Calk? Or would a wallrock fiber liner paper hide it?
I too am wondering about this. Would paper jointing tape be any use or would it be vulnerable over the little gulley?

@@lauranovember527 I used wallrock thermal liner adhesive designed specifically for thermal liner as recommended by manufacturer
Can you put wall paper on the top of this also using with wallpaper paste on top?
Yes, just use the recommended paste for the type of wallpaper you're using.
How does this stuff compare to more traditional forms of insulation? ie - does it work WELL?
Works very well and is a lot better than stuffing your cavity wall with insulation... which is wrong because it needs to be a cavity..
I'm looking at this to keep my house cooler. The walls are south exposed and it gets unbearably warm. Have you tried this in warm climates?
It does work both ways. Thanks
Now if your to paint that how would you return your paper round the reveal would you still slice down the corner or just pull it straight round.
Can it be applied to the ceiling too?
Yes although it's a lot more difficult. Thanks
did you only use this lining paper on external walls? cheers
Can this be put on a wall with lining paper already on or does it need to go on the plaster ?
It's always best to apply straight to plaster, but if the lining paper is on well and no edges lifting you could apply it over the lining paper.
@@PaintingandDecorating Would you need to seal the paper first to prevent the adhesive pulling the paper off with reactivating the paste underneath?

Can you use just normal wallpaper paste for just normal wall rock wall lining paper? Not thermal Thank you.
Yes normal paste is fine for lining paper.. thanks
How did you put the adhesive and how much
what is best way finish at vertical edge as recessed window
How smooth and flat does a surface need to be for this stuff?
it's good for rough surfaces
Could I put it on a ceiling, or would it fall off?
Yes you can put it on ceilings have done another video called Thermal Liner Papering Tips. If its a large ceiling it may take two people. Thanks
Looking at doing this and one website says 5kg of adhesive hangs one roll. Is that right? It seems like a lot to me???
It does take a lot a roll is 10m

Great advice and thorough instructions thanks. Just wondering how you would finish the corner on the window reveal where you scored down it with the blade if just painting directly onto this? Just a filler or would you recommend always using lining paper beforehand? Thanks!
You could possibly use a filler... apply B.I.N first to seal... but for best results lining is best thanks
How long do you have for the adhesive before it doesn't stick ?
It depends on humidity and temp usually about 10 minutes it does start going off fast.
Only work on one length at a time.
