Insta360 X3 Long Term Review : Still Worth it?

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 22 พ.ค. 2024
- Last year I picked up the insta360 X3 360 action camera, I’ve used this camera for snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, onewheeling, traveling, at the beach. Ive taken this camera in super deep snow, sub zero temperatures, close to 100 degree temperatures, you name it, I’ve used this camera in those conditions. So now over a year later I wanted to give my thoughts and review of the insta360 X3 action camera and let you know is it still worth picking up? And how did this camera perform for me this last year?

Thank you for the share!
Thanks for checking it out!!!😁
Quick quistion ,im using the lense guards for my x3 , and it seems that the stitching is pretty obvious in my videos ,do u use the lense guards ? And if not arent u affraid to damage the lenses?? I allready changed them twice this Season
There is actually setting on The camera you can change when using the lens protectors that helps improve the stitching. It’s an actual lens protector setting you turn on. I use them in the summer onewheeling and mountain biking but I don’t run them in the winter, mainly so I don’t have to worry about water spots or lens flares
Do you prefer the selfy stick instead of the helmet extension rod or chest strap? If so, can you please share your reasoning? I’m on the fence as to which way I want to use my X3 when snowboarding. Thanks!
So I’d have to say the selfie stick is definitely my favorite then followed closely by just having it mounted to my helmet like a traditional action camera. I do like the extension rod a lot but I don’t use it as often, I should use it more than I do. And as for the chesty I only use that for MTB, I haven’t ever tried it snowboarding
So my reason for the selfie stick being my favorite is I think it gives by far the best and coolest looking shot with the 360 cam. It’s the furthest away so you get the best full body shot, you can tweak the angle whether you hold it high or low, in front behind. I think it just gives a really great shot and you’ve got a huge variety of angles you can use. Then once I get tired of holding it, it just want to be hands free I like just the classic helmet mount because with the 360 cam having such a wide angle it gives a really cool and immersive shot. Plus I never feel like I can ride quite 100% with the selfie stick in my hand.
I love the extension rod helmet shot but it’s just not quite as far away if a shot as the selfie stick. It works great for vertical video, it’s perfect but for horizontal it’s just a little too close to get quite a full body shot. My favorite way to use it honestly is on the side of my helmet going behind me like you can see in a few clips of this video.
I did this video last year playing with some different mounting options:Best Snowboarding Camera Mounts 2023

Hey from Ireland. Nice video but you made basically the same video about the one rs. Do you have a preference between these two? Im stuck picking one or the other. I do mainly surfing ane snowboarding. Honestly form factor on the one rs seems nice / more familiar i guess. Like the idea of the bigger interface on the x3 too. Like the idea of the super usable x3 but swapping lenses honestly doesn't bother me, I've worked enough with cameras. If the one rs had a slightly better 360 camera would it win out? I feel like dedicated modules for linear or 360 has to beat out a single 360 module that tries to do something its not designed for. Sorry for the rant. You seem pretty reasonable and you actually use these cameras as opposed to other channels i just wouldn't trust for practical reviews
Thanks
Ya absolutely! I honestly love both, and you are right in thinking the form factor of the one RS definitely has a lot of benefits, it mounts to the helmet better, for me fits on a MTB chest mount better and if you are after the 4k single lens footage as well I think it does a better job. However if I could only run one I prefer the X3. I like it better for selfie footage, even though it is a bit more awkward on some mounts i think as a whole it’s 360 footage is a little cleaner, which is normally what I’m using both for. And I also like the massive touch screen on it which initially wasn’t even something j wanted but now that I have it I like it a lot. You honestly can’t go wrong with either, they’re both great cameras but if I could only use one I’d have to say the X3.
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes thanks so much taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it. I think id be happy with either ao that's kind of the problem haha it seems wild that both cameras exist and so similar. Thanks again!
@@Crazyleper92 no problem! Hopefully I was able to help. Honestly both are great cameras and are going to do just fine for you. I didn’t need both but went a bit crazy🤣wanted one on the selfie stick and on on the helmet all snowboard season. But that being said there was a period where I was just taking the one RS out. I used it onewheeling on a selfie stick, mtb and mounted it on my paddle board while I was at the beach. Both are easily my 2 favorite cameras I’ve ever used
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes i was about to reply saying thay im as confused as ever haha but thinking about what you said about the large screen again I imagine it's very hard to go back after that. The ability to switch from 360 to linear with a smooth button click while out riding with friends seems a big sell. I was partially sold on being modular with the RS and upgraded piece meal along the way but there's no guarantee that plan would work out. I think im settled on the x3 especially with a big snow trip coming up. Thanks ao much. Love the videos!
Haha sorry to make you more confused! Exactly! The modular design is sweet and handy but when you’re out snowboarding or surfing, whatever you’re doing it’s nice to be able to just hit a button and jump between modes instead of having to take a camera apart and put it back together. And that massive touch screen is nice. The x3 also has a quick select button so you can preset modes and swap between them in the fly with the press of a button. This is super helpful in the cold when you don’t want to take off your gloves. No problem! You’re gonna love it! I have some questions from GoPro , can you help me ?
I would like put a Disposable hand warmers into GoPro cover
Can I use that on snowboarding ?
Won’t freezing ?
So I have never actually put one in the cover, but what I have done is put one in my pocket with my spare batteries to help keep the batteries warm so with the cold doesn’t drain them. Then, if your GoPro is in a cover and you leave it powered on, even when you’re not recording, it will help keep itself warm. I’d be afraid, putting one in the cover with it would make the camera overheat.
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I got that, thank you.next time ,I can try on your mind to do it.
No problem! Hopefully it’ll work for you! Keeping those batteries and that camera warm is key😁
Which area are you snowboarding in, looks dope.
Most of the snowboarding clips were from Solitude Utah and Jackson Hole Wyoming, but there’s a few from Brighton UT, Snowshoe WV, snowbird UT and a few other locations 😁
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I gotta visit those spots one day, thank you man.
No problem! Where are you riding this season?!
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes we usually hit Camel Back in NJ, but in feb-march will meet some friends in Calarodo, but we are still amateurs.
Nice!!!! Hey everybody starts somewhere 😁that’s awesome
