    My earning graph would a straigh line, even if I planned it couldn't be that consistent. At 39 I earn 120K. But last 14 years every year I have been earning 5k more than the previous year. Started as a carwash attendant as an international student 14 years ago, earning10 dollars an hour. Today I am a BI Analyst. Still it is low pay for my role and experience...but I am grateful for what the universe has offered me. Everything is possible in Australia if you work hard and stay humble.

    Interesting to see. I also think the average is a bit low and probably skewed by some unique factors.

      yeah ironically it's actually hard to get some straight data from the ABS - a lot of income and networth stats they don't get clear cut info

    How is 200k dollar a year for a family of 3 to have a luxury life?

    • @raycorc
      @raycorc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in a nicer suburb in Syd and Melb I don’t think that’s enough, in a cheaper suburb or smaller city it’s probably doable
      Depends on your definitely of luxury life too, for some 200k would be nowhere near enough after tax, mortgage, potentially private school fees or daycare, nice cars etc

    i'm 28 years old, and recently got an offer to work at Sydney with wages of $27/hour (gross pay) as a telecommunication rigger. I'm actually in dillemma as to whether i should accept the offer or vice versa. it looks a bit low to me especially with the high accomodation cost. what do you think?

    • @raycorc
      @raycorc  ปีที่แล้ว

      G’day Mohammad, I’d say in 2023 that would be close to minimum wage, maybe just above. You’d definitely want to keep housing cost low because that’ll likely be your big expense. Another question I’d ask is what is the next step from there and how quick could I get there? You would aim to move up in the ranks or to another role/company as soon as possible so it gets easier for you

    • @mohammadsyafiq9858
      @mohammadsyafiq9858 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raycorc unfortunately the housing/room rent/cost in sydney is high and I’m bound to the same position for the next 4 years. There’ll be increments over time but I doubt it’ll go higher than $40/hour.

    I think it’s less income in regional areas, especially for older women who may have been carers most of their life. Most jobs in regional areas seem to be casual positions for women unless in health where there are more jobs. Need more doctors in regional areas too. I worked for ABS in Sydney & wages have risen since then. When I was a carer, the hourly rate for 24/7 care was $2 ten years ago. Health is everything when it comes to income. There will be further demand for health workers as more baby boomers retire. If moving regional, go the health jobs, IT, or mining jobs. Have never seen a work from home job advertised for a regional area. Employers need to look regional for highly skills workers working from home.

    props for distinguishing mean and median tho it would still be best to just have a distribution, medians can be misleading too. Even if you earn above these averages u wont really be able to afford to support a family so its not really take foot off the gas more like pull the plug on life support. Also I wouldnt really trust these stats in the first place.

      @raycorc  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Started with 60k aud in my first job in 2016, now I’m earning 180k (exc super), I’m 33 . but doesnt feel much at all when living in Sydney and I feel like I’m poor as fck. These numbers seem super low, how come people doesnt starve to death? Are you sure your numbers are accurate?

    • @raycorc
      @raycorc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Numbers are likely a little bit skewed for a few reasons. You're on a good income, can definitely make that work easy in Sydney if you keep expenses low (very doable in my opinion, contrary to what everyone whinges about). I found investing every year basically made me a whole second salary which keeps compounding regardless of how much active work I do, that's something to consider

    I'm thinking of coming to Australia been offered €60 a hour as a bricklayer. Is that a good wage in Sydney?

    • @raycorc
      @raycorc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G’day Sean, that is pretty good - bricklayers in Australia generally get paid pretty well
      One difference to consider is if you’re going to be a contractor vs a full time employee (not sure which you’d be). I’ve seen other people mention you’d generally want more as a contractor as you have a few other costs to factor in compared to a normal employee
      There’s a FB group called Mens Finance Advice, there would be some Aussie bricklayers in there who might be able to shed more light on the detail
      But overall sounds like good money (especially if you dont piss it all up the wall due to living costs/lifestyle)

    Every job is a stepping stone, Im now 25 and just started my first full time job with a salary of 60k per year.
    But before that I worked at Subway, a grocery store, entertainment company, chocolate shop, cafe, my dads office, and even a dental clinic. During these years I was saving everything I earned, investing as much as I can or putting it away in super. I want other people to know its never too late to find a full time job and each job leads you to something better : )

      Tons of people in that agre bracket make much less, of course if you make more its generally assumed that your friends also make more seeing as you're typically all from the same industry and seniority level.
