Did any of the jobs surprise you by how much they got paid? Does this change how you view certain roles? Are we all becoming surgeons?

Awesome video mate. The main difference between psychiatrists and psychologists is the ability to prescribe medicine. So psychiatrists are medical doctors who have then completed further specialised training. Hence the high salary!

Studying Law or IT, which one would be the best option for an international student in Australia?

They’re pretty different - I would look at what you think you’d personally enjoy more and also what aligns with your natural strengths. Both have good earning potential. I was in IT for a small part as a business analyst, good pay potential

The thing is, a lot of these roles as well say average x amount but then companies put the salary sooo much lower. i’m in people and culture/HR and it’s an average of 130-150k a year and i see it sometimes as 60-70k

Yep you're right - happens a lot with sales roles advertised. On target earnings apparently are 150k but then you find out no one hits their targets..

Is Biomedical Engineering or Coper/patent Lawyer paid more? Which is highly paying & has flexible working hours

    • @raycorc

Check Google or Glassdoor for the typical salary ranges
I know lawyers generally don’t have flexible working hours. I’ve had clients who are IP lawyers and some worked crazy hours and others did more contract work where it was more flexible
Either way focus on something you’d enjoy - no point doing bigger hours in something you hate

The issue with this system is that your talking declared income. I have my own consultancy and make a little over $300k - but with money going through the family trust and tax minimisations my declared income is just $120k. There are many jobs like this including tradies and builders who may not have the highest level of education (myself included) but can make a lot of money. If you want to make a lot of money my advice would be to become self employed and get a good tax account. It can be very profitable without the need to be highly educated and work 80 hour weeks

The data from the ATO was based on average taxable income so had to include that - I agree and I'm the same. I know a lot of people who did crazy degrees and have 'prestigious' high paying jobs, but they're also chained to the role with big hours and hard to wriggle out of it. Whereas I make more than most of them but work for myself and have a flexible relaxed lifestyle (although it took a very long time to get to that point!). If I had my time again I would have entered the workforce instead of going to uni (which I didn't finish the degree in the end anyway)
