Correct. Duolingo will actually get you farther that you think it will (because it seems like you aren't learning). When I first started learning German I was like a sponge and tried to absorb as much material as possible. Over time however, I have mostly been sticking with Duolingo and surprised how much I am picking up on it alone. I am also lucky to have some native-speaking Germans to chat with, which helps. Although I don't think they are very impressed with my skills...
@@hivepark6844 if one does not practice vocab and rehearse the lessons the German is shallow. I now have to deepen my exposure to German even after 2 years of lessons.
Was hoping to hear how much you improved in that time. And also how long you practiced every day.... to give us an idea of the potential for improvement using the method you used.
It's much harder to learn than English. There are a lot of confusing things which i have to get over.. for example: 'wer' is who (similar to an english word where), also 'ist' and 'isst' are pronnounced the same but mean completely different things, and then 'ich will' is 'i want', very confusing aswell.. and then the notorious kein and nicht , mag and gern, dein/ihr/eure.. i could speak the entire day.. crazy language! 😅
I know this is an old video but maybe someone can help. When he says low-level books. Are there any good examples? I think kid's books would be too low-level but I'm not sure what a good step-up would be.
Correct. Duolingo does not line up with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for German (as it does for Spanish and French). Other references are a must, after 1 year I am at an A2 level.
Duolingo cannot teach fluency, Evan must’ve left something out like maybe he took classes on the side, Duolingo by itself can get you to A1 and maybe B1. But not C2
Good to get clarity on this - duolingo is not the whole solution to learning but a good start..

It's actually more than a start
6:48 answer for the video title!!
Thanks for clip. I've been at it for 2 years and enjoying it. Just need to be with German speakers to get the sound and flow.
Glad you are enjoying Duolingo with German, how is it after 2 years? Giving you everything you were hoping for?

Danke, du ist sehr klug.
my biggest problem with learning german as a beginner is keeping ist and is straight.
Late comment but for me it’s the inconsistent gender usage that they consider normal lol
Why he look like kevin spacey
Wait.. He isn't??
O:
My thoughts exactly!
Thanks for the video sooo much
Danke

I did a one year update video towards the end of 2020, overall I am happy with my progress. I want to take an official B1/B2 test sometime this year.
How is it going, I guess you are already at 160 days
Whatever you can acquire knowledge from various sources, speaking with native/ German speaker is necessary, isn't it.?
Thanks for the tips Kevin Spacey.

Also grab flash cards and just watch German news and anything in German

I just want the B1 German, do you think I can achieve it after finishing the hierarchy ?
Definatelly not. All you'll get will be A1. Duolingo is not enough. It's just supporting tool.

Good video.
Kevin Spacey?
how do you get grammar on duolingo? i just started and i am at unit 3 and i only have themes.
always look at the tips, and if you can make physical notes and practice them with pen & paper
Ich kann Deutsch aber will Französisch üben
I usually drive alot and would be great if there is an AI bot talking with me on the way.. Pls suggest if any
i learned english trough games 💀💀💀💀💀💀
U look like actor Kevin specey

And that’s A1-B1 in reading and writing, not speaking
Just thought I would let you know that you look a lot like Kevin Spacey
I get that sometimes 😅
If you’re fluent prove it
Sadly I am not fluent after 101 days or even a year. That would make a great challenge, fluent in 101 days on Duolingo....

Damn, tough luck with high school taking you 5-6 years to complete. If even you could learn German with Duolingo, surely anyone can! (Just kidding!)
What’s your Duolingo username?
