Shes one of the few people that i sympathise with and concide with. Growing up with the same things misfortune had dealt with for years and alot more to where i had to fake my eternal happiness by faking my own reality. Im still having to fight those demons for my own happiness back and wish i can get it. Im just hoping that 1day i get that chance.

There are two little details that you missed in your summary of the game's plot. 1) Morgo is a parasitic entity from the void that exists outside of FREE, not a demon from the fifth reality of Apollo. 2) It was heavily implied that Misfortune's father was the one who killed her via driving under the influence. Great job making this video.
Yeah, Mike made the mistake of associating the Beyond with the 5th reality (aka Apollo aka the Darkness). But the instruction document we find in Benjamin's bag clearly states the Beyond is a relatively new and still largely unknown realm generated by a cosmic war. The Protector program was created to fight the entities that come from there, called parasites. Morgo is one of those, whereas Remor, Fran Bow's antagonist, is from the 5th reality. The five realities are in balance, while the Beyond is a threat to all of them. For the same reason, Morgo wasn't planning to lead Misfortune to the Darkness. Morgo wanted to keep the loop eternally going, so he could play with Misfortune (or, more precisely, Misfortune's soul) for all eternity. Also, I don't think Benjamin is from Primeve. I think he's from Senersedee. It's the staff that's from Primeve, and it was given to him when he "leveled up", granting him the Valokas-like power to vanquish Morgo.

Though it is interesting that itward is considered a good being from Senersedee as well, given all the beings there seem to resemble death (aka skeleton features) in some way. So, Benjimin being from there would shed light that they come in different forms. That or he is truly from Primeve.
The psychology of this game is so incredibly sad. The kid has no connection with her feelings and has to be positive, despite the extreme impact that leaves on her subconscious because there is no one to fend for her. She is a victim of adultification and an abusive household. She understands that children missing is a negative thing, but doesn't understand why, as not many people would care if she was missing herself. Seeing as she can't find happiness, she "blames" benjamin subconsciously, as she doesn't want to come to terms that eternal happiness is forever out of her reach. When looking for answers, she faces awful terror. She can't escape the threat of dark/terror, despite her overall positive overview on life. Misfortune, as a child, likely has developed a schizophrenic personality, as a source of both confort and contextualizing the awful pain she deals with daily. *THE ENDING* She ultimately realizes eternal happiness is no longer worth it. She sees her friends disappearing from her life, one by one. Her struggles lead to nothing. She finally realizes she needs to confront her demons head on, however, she's still a little child! Benjamin "saves" her- but the fact is, she already lost. She paid the ultimate price of parental neglect, and passed away. Her mother may find new reasons to improve after misfortunes passing, however, she will never be brought back. This is a sad story of abuse, neglect, and mental issues caused by the former mentioned, culminating on the death of an unwanted child. Despite the freedom her passing may offer to the mother (as we can only assume she will now divorce and lead a more fulfilling life), she ultimately became one more child, taken.
Misfortune was dead from the beginning of the game, but her soul was not ready to leave yet. The tracks from the car are already on the road when you start the game. Which explains why her mom won't respond to her at the beginning of the game and keeps drinking wine and smoking cigarettes (struggling to get over the whole situation). You never actually see Misfortune's dad because he was probably arrested or died in the crash. Her father killed her. She was destined to die from the start and you can't do anything to save her or prolong her death. That is just the truth of the matter and we are forced to come to terms with it, though she isn't. Being forced to play Morgo's games, she is led to believe that she is still alive to the very end. A form of torment to her confused soul. When Morgo says "My game is the only thing keeping you alive", he meant her soul, not her physical body. Her physical body was laying on the road, already dead. Her soul was still trapped in his game, only "living" until she realized that she was dead. If he were to tell her that she wasn't alive, she would be forced to accept it as fact, and her soul would be released to his dimension. Mr. Voice says that she is going to die at the beginning of the game. That was the day her soul was ready to leave. Mr. Voice (being the evil) wanted to take her soul but Benjamin was trying to get her soul to the angel of death, where she actually finds eternal happiness. And if we go by the best ending, the only time her mother could finally accept the situation and be happy was once Misfortune finally found the Eternal Happiness. The endings are vastly different. Just because the good ending only adds a single scene, does not mean it doesn't impact the story as much. In the bad ending, Misfortune's mother never takes off her mask. She stays sad and shackled to her false happiness, refusing to come to terms with her daughter's death. In the good ending, she releases herself and allows herself to learn that there is bad in everything but that ultimately, there is also good in everything. She's free from both herself and the life that had imprisoned her. We know that Misfortune never talked about her mother abusing her as her father did. All we know is she smoked, drank, and also told Misfortune you should smile even when you are sad. My theory is that her mother named her Misfortune because she is what kept her with her husband, because she knew she wouldn’t be able to take care of her on her own, and that she can’t leave her with her husband. Both Misfortune and her mother were abused by the father, and both had to pretend nothing was wrong. Her mom did truly love her, and when Misfortune won her eternal happiness in the good ending, she realizes she doesn’t need to hide her abusive relationship with her husband anymore, because he is arrested (or dead) now, and she is happy that her daughter is somewhere better and safer than their household. The game, at its core, is about accepting that death is destined and that there are no exceptions. Some die sooner than others and some refuse to accept their mortality. Its themes promise to you that you can't hide from death behind a false veil of happiness and that you'll only ever be free once you accept your mortality and see the best in everything, ultimately coming to terms with your very existence and creating a balance in your life.
Morgo is not a part of the five realities. The beyond is not the fifth realm but rather a theoretical sixth realm. Imagine the universe as an egg:the five realms of essential reality is the yolk of this cosmic egg and the beyond is the surrounding egg white.

Yeah in the dairy of Benjamin says that after the ultra war (whatever that is) new realms appear and one of them is The Beyond wich is the realm of absurdity
Admittedly it is easy for a being like Morgo to be mistaken for a being originating from Apollo, but even the king of Ithersta said that the Kamala's are the only evil allowed to be within the 2nd realm, but Morgo and the other 'Parasites' are something different. I think according to the bit of lore from Benjamins pack, there was some kind of war, and this 'Beyond' manifested during it (or as a result). It may be that the Parasites are enemies even to Mabuka and others in Apollo.
I feel like the Ultra War might have something to do with WWII, when Fran Bow takes place. The horrors therein rippling through the realities - maybe even growing into more wars in the other realities that all happen in unison - and creating the Beyond, which is far more abominable than Apollo due to the utter senselessness of it all.
The ending of this game got me a little emotional tbh. And I do not say that lightly. I’m usually immune to sad moments with fictional characters, but this one did it to me 😢

It hit me today how much parts of this game reminded me of kids’ shows like “Charlie and Lola”, with the quirky sort of art style, soothing simplistic music and the childlike drawings we get from the glitter. And there’s the way Morgo starts off sounding like some benign children’s show/book narrator. It’s one of those stories that does a really good job of taking the tropes and general atmosphere of something for children and turning it all on its head, adding to that particular uncanny-valley sort of creepiness.

Okay, 1 minor correction: you said at 11:32 that Apollo is also known as the Beyond and that it’s where Morgo comes from. However, as stated in the documents found in Benjamin’s discarded bag, the Beyond is not apart of the Fives Realms of Essential Existence, rather it is a realm outside of the F.R.E.E with no known laws of physics. It was created after the Ultra War by the thousands of by-products of said war. Benjamin, as well as other protectors that come from Senersedee, are still trying to understand everything about the Beyond
I mention it in another video someone did on this game, but if ur wondering why Misfortune can hear mr voice (which the game hints hasn't happened before), is because that very miserable childhood she had in life made her the right condition to be aware of the forces of F.R.E.E beyond pandora. It is stated in Fran bow that people who are considered broken (have an unstable mind caused by trauma or mental illness), can be made aware of the ultra reality and the rest of F.R.E.E. Misfortune fits that bill, due to the abused she experienced which gave her an unsettling outlook on the world around her.

I'm using my research and knowledge of the Fran Bow/ Little Misfortune universe (which I am a fan of), to explain why only Misfortune was the only child that can hear him. If you pay attention to the kids at the Asylum in Fran Bow, some will mention that they can see the Kamalas, with Fran's Roommate able to see and communicate with Remor. Leon's book explains that the forces of F.R.E.E can be seen by humans with unstable minds, and he even tried to explain it to Fran Bow once when she was little, despite being close to a hundred years old by then. What made you think I'm claiming to be Morgo?
The best part Misfortune is that she written in just away that she acts like a real child and has a way to make her actions more charming other then annoying.
Theory: Benjamin and Itward are the gaurdians of misfortune and Fran and when ever a kid has been face to face with a demon the send the gardians to help

One thing I’m gonna say is I don’t think Fran is dead at the end of Fran Bow since they took her to Ithersta and not to Senersedee since Senersedee is the realm/layer of death from the FREE
plus she was fated to be the keeper of the key in her game which was explained by the face in the fifth realm (currently blanking on the name) so i doubt she died and instead lived on as the keeper of the key in ithersta with itward
If Misfortune didn't die young and actually live to adulthood, she would suffer even more and even lose her bubbly personality. She might become like one of her parents or worse. It's sad how she has no one else she could turned to for help. She's just a little girl who barely knew anything about the world she lives in. It's tragic really, how her death actually is her escape route from her miserable reality.
I've actually cried while watching this video, because the games message is so powerful. Finally, Misfortune found eternal happiness and her mother lives for the memory of her child, promising to be a better person, I just think it's absolutely beautiful
I think the artist is Damian's (the "king" from Fran Bow) father. There's a family photo of them in the house and some of the missing posters look like him 8:12. The doctor from Fran Bow probably took Damian for his experiments, then the father hung himself out of grief after he'd been missing for however long.
So Misfortune was like in some sort of loop and doesn't remember any of this it makes sense since in the game Morgo/Mr.Voice asks her "have you heard this question before?" and Misfortune will answer yes or no that's just my theory
Yeah the most probably thing is that Morgo talks to Misfortune about the eternal happiness,she goes to the graveyard and digs the box with the "eternal happiness" and then the game starts over and over again in loop (until Benjamin safes her)
Misfortune is aware that she is in a loop, near the end of the game where she was like the beginning, she said that she already did that and remember the deal she made with Morgo, it’s like she is way stronger than he imagined. She could already hear him and talk to him, which surprised him, obviously.
All the notes appearing to have been written by Benjamin actually aren’t from him. The game does well to portray the deceiving notes as it shows that Benjamin is illiterate

About Apollo and Morgo there is a mistake that Morgo is from The Beyond and everyone already comment that BUT they kept saying that The Beyond is the sixth reality and that is also wrong: The Beyond is a product after the ultra war (probably the same war that the Great Valokas died) and its the realm of absurdity,but its not part of F.R.E.E so its not the sixth reality,its more like a reality that needs to be purge because it causes imbalance in the F.R.E.E (such as Morgo preventing Misfortune and many other childrens to go to Senersedee)

One thing that always bothered me about the ending was how death responded to her. When She called her “Lady” misfortune, she is showing her a sign of respect. But…why? Why would an powerful entity that regularly take in souls to the afterlife have any reason to show any sign of respect to a human soul. I think misfortune is an important figure that participated in the ultra war, as we can confirm franbow also shares the same universe as this game. Lady death also says “We’ve” been expecting you. Not “SHE”. Meaning there has to be another group of people involved. I think the “we” are also the people that were involved in the ultra war. Finally, she says “what is this place” as in she’s being shown something as she is currently and wasn’t immediately reduced to a ball of soul energy. And I dont think that orb was her soul either in the eternal happiness ending, it seems to be the essence of her own happiness that she left behind for her mother.
I feel like Little Misfortune's inspiration came from kid shows that involve a child(or other characters) and a narrator with a similar voice to Mr. Voice.
I know I'm a bit late, but I want to say that I really enjoy watching your theory/story explained videos. I usually watch youtube while doing something else at the same time (it helps me with concentration), although I usually don't listen very closely to words spoken in them (you can say they are just playing in the background). But your videos keep me focused entirely on them, so I don't feel a need to do something else to maintain my attention. Your voice and ways of telling stories are incredibly good, I even try to pay close attention to every word and understand them the best I can (English is not my first language so that's why). Also, these videos have become my comfort ones despite being almost completely about disturbing things. I tend to be a bit faint-hearted person, but with somebody so talented as you to tell about even the most gore and unsettling things my fear gets smaller and easier to control. Ok, that was long, but in summary you do an awesome job and man, just keep up with the good work!
Here's my theory: Misfortune died in the beginning of the game. Her mother is drunk when Misfortune leaves the house, therefore ignoring her absence. Once outside, you can see the car and tire marks that swerve into the yard. This could mean that her dad was driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, therefore hitting Misfortune when she crosses the road. Misfortune crossed the road and got hit since her dad is implied to speed down the highway. Misfortune doesn't realize that she died on impact or got hit because she's playing Morgo's game. Morgo is trying to lead her to The Beyond (where she will be tormented instead of finding peace) instead of Senersedee where she's meant to go. Senersedee is the real eternal happiness because it is where her pure soul will be at rest. When Misfortune gets hit by the car, her mother hears the crash and runs outside just to see her little girl dead on the road. She is destroyed by this. Misfortune's mother never hated her, she hated Misfortune's father and didn't want to have his child (therefore wanting an abortion) because of how abusive he is. But she likely couldn't get an abortion because it was illegal, therefore having no choice but to marry him. Blinded by her hate of her husband she drinks to forget the pain, and is neglectful to Little Misfortune.
I could very much see this as a possibility, although I do wonder why an abortion would be illegal. Granted I also am unaware of the exact time period this takes place in, and I know it isn’t set in the US since the missing child posters all say “call 211” which is not the national emergency number for the US.
I like this game and Fran Bow. It seems like the creators could maybe squeeze one more story out of this world they made, though. Maybe another girl's story of interactions with the other realms. Interactions that others think are in her head. Maybe a girl named...Alice. I would love to see the creators tie in the stories of Wonderland to the realms they've created. We see that she does exist in this world, after all. She even knows Fran Bow. They appear in a picture together. They seem like friends.
Mike, you are great, but it is clear that The Beyond is not part of F.R.E.E, full of parasites like Morgo. It was caused after the Ultra-war, directly related to the ultra-reality that Fran Bow can see (specially as the Keeper of the Key). Funfact: apparently Hiro says something like "where is the fog?", probably refering to the foggy 4th reality of death...
I loved Fran Bow, but I was really underwhelmed with this game. I was constantly thinking “ok this is when it will take off!” But it never did. This is more like an interactive book - not a lot of puzzles or actual gameplay.

Great video but I'm surprised you missed a couple of things. Firstly, The Beyond is a sixth realm full of parasites and is not recognized as part of the F.R.E.E. According to Benjamin's notes, the parasites of the Beyond promote chaos and do what they want with no rhyme or reason. Secondly, Misfortune might have been killed by her father because you can see the tire marks leading from the scene of the accident to the car and she does mention that her father often sleeps in the car. Finally, the ending has a deeper interpretation to me: as Misfortune states in the initial hallway scene her mother married her father when she got pregnant with Misfortune and that her mother planned on having an abortion but it was illegal to do so; therefore, by being married to the father she entered into a relationship full of domestic violence which resulted in her engaging in harmful yet coping behaviour (such as smoking and being an alcoholic), becoming depressed and being an overall neglectful mother. Misfortune being able to provide her with eternal happiness is bittersweet because (how I see it) it was gained by the death of Misfortune: her death was a catalyst to prompt the mother to be a better person but with her daughter now gone, there is nothing else binding her to her abusive relationship. She is now freed from the burden of a terrible relationship and (although she clearly loved her daughter) is also freed from the role of motherhood that she was never equipped to handle and never truly desired in the first place. Which is why Misfortune says to her mother that she was always her little misfortune but now that she (Misfortune) is gone, her mother can go find her eternal happiness.

Thanks for the ending explained. I didn't really know what the ending meant cuz everyone kinda got it wrong. My first idea was her mother was happy cuz her daughter died in a terrible way, or she was happy that now, her daughter is in a better place that where she is right now.
i was very confused after watching a lets play of this, because i couldnt understand what morgo and benjamin stood for but you explaining it as light and dark vying for her soul makes so much sense and im choosing to believe that theory hehe
Something i just remembered that i think is intresting is the apearence of babies and mothers, in fran bow there were lots of fetus/dead babies and some mother doughter relations, like the chapter with the twins, while in misfortune as her name symbolizes she was a anwanted baby/child.
At 8:02 If you look at the small memorial below the billboard you can see a Fran Bow doll. Further hinting that this game is linked to Fran Bow. Personally I think that the story of Little Misfortune takes place AFTER the events in Fran Bow.
I don’t think Misfortune will meet Fran Bow in the future though. While the former was an normal child and an normal ghost after she died, the later is an being who can cross the five realities with an human body. They just aren’t on the same level
The demon was outside of the FREE universe as stayed in the notes you find in Benjamin’s bag, Also it’s very implied that Misfortune’s own dad hit her while driving erratically or under the influence

As seen in one of the scenes where the cars are passing by, you can see Fran driving by, meaning Fran is an adult in Misfortune's timeline. So, sadly it's not likely they'd meet and become friends being that Fran is still alive and Misfortune isn't.
I just realized that when she was in the zoo when you pick the "tell a lie" option, the person in the booth actually listened to her or atleast that what it seems like. I think that guy wasn't actually going to go to the bus stop, I think it was just a coincidence since he did carelessly leave the gate open.

It's actually not that abnormal for children to react like Misfortune in these situations, albeit to a less extreme extent. Children aren't meant to undergo the huge psychological stress of being in morbid, abusive situations so their mind as a coping mechanism and as a way to stop a child from having to deal with the fragmented reality tends to make everything ok. Of course things could be further from the truth but a child is not meant to deal with its reality crumbling apart so they either blame it on themselves or wish it away. It's a very normal reaction to an abnormal situation. As parents and caregivers are supposed to support and shelter their children, the reality that the people they rely on for survival, essentially their world, could in any way be broken or damaged is neigh unfathomable for a child.
The beyond is outside of the five realms not in Apollo as we saw in the diary in the 3rd episode of the game.please like this in order for him to see we all make mistakes sometimes
i think the skeleton lady at the end is fran, because of the cat statues and all the other things fran met. Fran bows story takes place way earlier in the timeline.

I finished reading it today and I personally think it has a lot of interesting informations about Joey's past and how he met his employees and how he created the studio and everything. To me this proves Fran Bow was real, since I doubt two girls would have identical illusions of such complexity

Yeah, Mike made the mistake of associating the Beyond with the 5th reality (aka Apollo aka the Darkness). But the instruction document we find in Benjamin's bag clearly states the Beyond is a relatively new and still largely unknown realm generated by a cosmic war. The Protector program was created to fight the entities that come from there, called parasites. Morgo is one of those, whereas Remor, Fran Bow's antagonist, is from the 5th reality. The five realities are in balance, while the Beyond is a threat to all of them.
For the same reason, Morgo wasn't planning to lead Misfortune to the Darkness. Morgo wanted to keep the loop eternally going, so he could play with Misfortune (or, more precisely, Misfortune's soul) for all eternity.
Also, I don't think Benjamin is from Primeve. I think he's from Senersedee. It's the staff that's from Primeve, and it was given to him when he "leveled up", granting him the Valokas-like power to vanquish Morgo.

Though it is interesting that itward is considered a good being from Senersedee as well, given all the beings there seem to resemble death (aka skeleton features) in some way. Morgo's voice is so good and sinister .
He literally does sound convincing and trustworthy for a lot of the game. The 4th wall breaking was pretty trippy too.

I think its interesting that he, a literal demon, was still kinder to her than her father ever was.
The psychology of this game is so incredibly sad. The kid has no connection with her feelings and has to be positive, despite the extreme impact that leaves on her subconscious because there is no one to fend for her. She is a victim of adultification and an abusive household.
She understands that children missing is a negative thing, but doesn't understand why, as not many people would care if she was missing herself. Seeing as she can't find happiness, she "blames" benjamin subconsciously, as she doesn't want to come to terms that eternal happiness is forever out of her reach.
When looking for answers, she faces awful terror. She can't escape the threat of dark/terror, despite her overall positive overview on life.
Misfortune, as a child, likely has developed a schizophrenic personality, as a source of both confort and contextualizing the awful pain she deals with daily.
*THE ENDING*
She ultimately realizes eternal happiness is no longer worth it. She sees her friends disappearing from her life, one by one. Her struggles lead to nothing.
She finally realizes she needs to confront her demons head on, however, she's still a little child!
Benjamin "saves" her- but the fact is, she already lost. She paid the ultimate price of parental neglect, and passed away. Her mother may find new reasons to improve after misfortunes passing, however, she will never be brought back.
This is a sad story of abuse, neglect, and mental issues caused by the former mentioned, culminating on the death of an unwanted child. Despite the freedom her passing may offer to the mother (as we can only assume she will now divorce and lead a more fulfilling life), she ultimately became one more child, taken.

She was dead the entire time.
Misfortune was dead from the beginning of the game, but her soul was not ready to leave yet. The tracks from the car are already on the road when you start the game. Which explains why her mom won't respond to her at the beginning of the game and keeps drinking wine and smoking cigarettes (struggling to get over the whole situation). You never actually see Misfortune's dad because he was probably arrested or died in the crash. Her father killed her. She was destined to die from the start and you can't do anything to save her or prolong her death. That is just the truth of the matter and we are forced to come to terms with it, though she isn't. Being forced to play Morgo's games, she is led to believe that she is still alive to the very end. A form of torment to her confused soul. When Morgo says "My game is the only thing keeping you alive", he meant her soul, not her physical body. Her physical body was laying on the road, already dead. Her soul was still trapped in his game, only "living" until she realized that she was dead. If he were to tell her that she wasn't alive, she would be forced to accept it as fact, and her soul would be released to his dimension. Mr. Voice says that she is going to die at the beginning of the game. That was the day her soul was ready to leave. Mr. Voice (being the evil) wanted to take her soul but Benjamin was trying to get her soul to the angel of death, where she actually finds eternal happiness. And if we go by the best ending, the only time her mother could finally accept the situation and be happy was once Misfortune finally found the Eternal Happiness.
The endings are vastly different. Just because the good ending only adds a single scene, does not mean it doesn't impact the story as much. In the bad ending, Misfortune's mother never takes off her mask. She stays sad and shackled to her false happiness, refusing to come to terms with her daughter's death. In the good ending, she releases herself and allows herself to learn that there is bad in everything but that ultimately, there is also good in everything. She's free from both herself and the life that had imprisoned her. We know that Misfortune never talked about her mother abusing her as her father did. All we know is she smoked, drank, and also told Misfortune you should smile even when you are sad. My theory is that her mother named her Misfortune because she is what kept her with her husband, because she knew she wouldn’t be able to take care of her on her own, and that she can’t leave her with her husband. Both Misfortune and her mother were abused by the father, and both had to pretend nothing was wrong. Her mom did truly love her, and when Misfortune won her eternal happiness in the good ending, she realizes she doesn’t need to hide her abusive relationship with her husband anymore, because he is arrested (or dead) now, and she is happy that her daughter is somewhere better and safer than their household.
The game, at its core, is about accepting that death is destined and that there are no exceptions. Some die sooner than others and some refuse to accept their mortality. Its themes promise to you that you can't hide from death behind a false veil of happiness and that you'll only ever be free once you accept your mortality and see the best in everything, ultimately coming to terms with your very existence and creating a balance in your life.

The beyond is not the fifth realm but rather a theoretical sixth realm. Imagine the universe as an egg:the five realms of essential reality is the yolk of this cosmic egg and the beyond is the surrounding egg white.

Admittedly it is easy for a being like Morgo to be mistaken for a being originating from Apollo, but even the king of Ithersta said that the Kamala's are the only evil allowed to be within the 2nd realm, but Morgo and the other 'Parasites' are something different. I think according to the bit of lore from Benjamins pack, there was some kind of war, and this 'Beyond' manifested during it (or as a result). It may be that the Parasites are enemies even to Mabuka and others in Apollo.

I feel like the Ultra War might have something to do with WWII, when Fran Bow takes place. The horrors therein rippling through the realities - maybe even growing into more wars in the other realities that all happen in unison - and creating the Beyond, which is far more abominable than Apollo due to the utter senselessness of it all.
The ending of this game got me a little emotional tbh. And I do not say that lightly. I’m usually immune to sad moments with fictional characters, but this one did it to me 😢

It hit me today how much parts of this game reminded me of kids’ shows like “Charlie and Lola”, with the quirky sort of art style, soothing simplistic music and the childlike drawings we get from the glitter. And there’s the way Morgo starts off sounding like some benign children’s show/book narrator. It’s one of those stories that does a really good job of taking the tropes and general atmosphere of something for children and turning it all on its head, adding to that particular uncanny-valley sort of creepiness.

Okay, 1 minor correction: you said at 11:32 that Apollo is also known as the Beyond and that it’s where Morgo comes from. However, as stated in the documents found in Benjamin’s discarded bag, the Beyond is not apart of the Fives Realms of Essential Existence, rather it is a realm outside of the F.R.E.E with no known laws of physics. It was created after the Ultra War by the thousands of by-products of said war. Benjamin, as well as other protectors that come from Senersedee, are still trying to understand everything about the Beyond
So that's how Morgo is able to break the 4th wall
I mention it in another video someone did on this game, but if ur wondering why Misfortune can hear mr voice (which the game hints hasn't happened before), is because that very miserable childhood she had in life made her the right condition to be aware of the forces of F.R.E.E beyond pandora. It is stated in Fran bow that people who are considered broken (have an unstable mind caused by trauma or mental illness), can be made aware of the ultra reality and the rest of F.R.E.E.
Misfortune fits that bill, due to the abused she experienced which gave her an unsettling outlook on the world around her.

If you pay attention to the kids at the Asylum in Fran Bow, some will mention that they can see the Kamalas, with Fran's Roommate able to see and communicate with Remor. Leon's book explains that the forces of F.R.E.E can be seen by humans with unstable minds, and he even tried to explain it to Fran Bow once when she was little, despite being close to a hundred years old by then. If Misfortune didn't die young and actually live to adulthood, she would suffer even more and even lose her bubbly personality. She might become like one of her parents or worse. It's sad how she has no one else she could turned to for help. She's just a little girl who barely knew anything about the world she lives in. It's tragic really, how her death actually is her escape route from her miserable reality.
I've actually cried while watching this video, because the games message is so powerful.
Finally, Misfortune found eternal happiness and her mother lives for the memory of her child, promising to be a better person, I just think it's absolutely beautiful

I think the artist is Damian's (the "king" from Fran Bow) father. There's a family photo of them in the house and some of the missing posters look like him 8:12. The doctor from Fran Bow probably took Damian for his experiments, then the father hung himself out of grief after he'd been missing for however long.

Yeah the most probably thing is that Morgo talks to Misfortune about the eternal happiness,she goes to the graveyard and digs the box with the "eternal happiness" and then the game starts over and over again in loop (until Benjamin safes her)
Misfortune is aware that she is in a loop, near the end of the game where she was like the beginning, she said that she already did that and remember the deal she made with Morgo, it’s like she is way stronger than he imagined. She could already hear him and talk to him, which surprised him, obviously.
All the notes appearing to have been written by Benjamin actually aren’t from him. The game does well to portray the deceiving notes as it shows that Benjamin is illiterate

The Beyond isn't part of FREE. It's such an illogical place that they haven't been able to "connect" it to the other realms.
One thing that always bothered me about the ending was how death responded to her.
When She called her “Lady” misfortune, she is showing her a sign of respect. But…why? Why would an powerful entity that regularly take in souls to the afterlife have any reason to show any sign of respect to a human soul.
I think misfortune is an important figure that participated in the ultra war, as we can confirm franbow also shares the same universe as this game.
Lady death also says “We’ve” been expecting you. Not “SHE”.
Meaning there has to be another group of people involved. I think the “we” are also the people that were involved in the ultra war.
Finally, she says “what is this place” as in she’s being shown something as she is currently and wasn’t immediately reduced to a ball of soul energy.
And I dont think that orb was her soul either in the eternal happiness ending, it seems to be the essence of her own happiness that she left behind for her mother.

I know I'm a bit late, but I want to say that I really enjoy watching your theory/story explained videos. I usually watch youtube while doing something else at the same time (it helps me with concentration), although I usually don't listen very closely to words spoken in them (you can say they are just playing in the background). But your videos keep me focused entirely on them, so I don't feel a need to do something else to maintain my attention. Your voice and ways of telling stories are incredibly good, I even try to pay close attention to every word and understand them the best I can (English is not my first language so that's why). Also, these videos have become my comfort ones despite being almost completely about disturbing things. I tend to be a bit faint-hearted person, but with somebody so talented as you to tell about even the most gore and unsettling things my fear gets smaller and easier to control.
Ok, that was long, but in summary you do an awesome job and man, just keep up with the good work!
Here's my theory:
Misfortune died in the beginning of the game. Her mother is drunk when Misfortune leaves the house, therefore ignoring her absence. Once outside, you can see the car and tire marks that swerve into the yard. This could mean that her dad was driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, therefore hitting Misfortune when she crosses the road.
Misfortune crossed the road and got hit since her dad is implied to speed down the highway. Misfortune doesn't realize that she died on impact or got hit because she's playing Morgo's game. Morgo is trying to lead her to The Beyond (where she will be tormented instead of finding peace) instead of Senersedee where she's meant to go. Senersedee is the real eternal happiness because it is where her pure soul will be at rest.
When Misfortune gets hit by the car, her mother hears the crash and runs outside just to see her little girl dead on the road. She is destroyed by this. Misfortune's mother never hated her, she hated Misfortune's father and didn't want to have his child (therefore wanting an abortion) because of how abusive he is. But she likely couldn't get an abortion because it was illegal, therefore having no choice but to marry him.
Blinded by her hate of her husband she drinks to forget the pain, and is neglectful to Little Misfortune.
That is an actual theory that could be true thanks for putting ur time into writing that much!
I could very much see this as a possibility, although I do wonder why an abortion would be illegal. Granted I also am unaware of the exact time period this takes place in, and I know it isn’t set in the US since the missing child posters all say “call 211” which is not the national emergency number for the US.

I like this game and Fran Bow. It seems like the creators could maybe squeeze one more story out of this world they made, though. Maybe another girl's story of interactions with the other realms. Interactions that others think are in her head. Maybe a girl named...Alice.
I would love to see the creators tie in the stories of Wonderland to the realms they've created. We see that she does exist in this world, after all. She even knows Fran Bow. They appear in a picture together. They seem like friends.

I loved Fran Bow, but I was really underwhelmed with this game. I was constantly thinking “ok this is when it will take off!” But it never did. This is more like an interactive book - not a lot of puzzles or actual gameplay.

Great video but I'm surprised you missed a couple of things. Firstly, The Beyond is a sixth realm full of parasites and is not recognized as part of the F.R.E.E. According to Benjamin's notes, the parasites of the Beyond promote chaos and do what they want with no rhyme or reason. Secondly, Misfortune might have been killed by her father because you can see the tire marks leading from the scene of the accident to the car and she does mention that her father often sleeps in the car. Finally, the ending has a deeper interpretation to me: as Misfortune states in the initial hallway scene her mother married her father when she got pregnant with Misfortune and that her mother planned on having an abortion but it was illegal to do so; therefore, by being married to the father she entered into a relationship full of domestic violence which resulted in her engaging in harmful yet coping behaviour (such as smoking and being an alcoholic), becoming depressed and being an overall neglectful mother. Misfortune being able to provide her with eternal happiness is bittersweet because (how I see it) it was gained by the death of Misfortune: her death was a catalyst to prompt the mother to be a better person but with her daughter now gone, there is nothing else binding her to her abusive relationship. She is now freed from the burden of a terrible relationship and (although she clearly loved her daughter) is also freed from the role of motherhood that she was never equipped to handle and never truly desired in the first place. Which is why Misfortune says to her mother that she was always her little misfortune but now that she (Misfortune) is gone, her mother can go find her eternal happiness.

Something i just remembered that i think is intresting is the apearence of babies and mothers, in fran bow there were lots of fetus/dead babies and some mother doughter relations, like the chapter with the twins, while in misfortune as her name symbolizes she was a anwanted baby/child.

I don’t think Misfortune will meet Fran Bow in the future though. While the former was an normal child and an normal ghost after she died, the later is an being who can cross the five realities with an human body. They just aren’t on the same level

As seen in one of the scenes where the cars are passing by, you can see Fran driving by, meaning Fran is an adult in Misfortune's timeline. So, sadly it's not likely they'd meet and become friends being that Fran is still alive and Misfortune isn't.

There is a game called In Sound Mind that is supposed to release this year that you might be interested in. Currently only the demo is out, but it's worth the look
This game is very good and Misfortune's story is so sad, but it proves that Fran Bow was real

It's actually not that abnormal for children to react like Misfortune in these situations, albeit to a less extreme extent. Children aren't meant to undergo the huge psychological stress of being in morbid, abusive situations so their mind as a coping mechanism and as a way to stop a child from having to deal with the fragmented reality tends to make everything ok. Of course things could be further from the truth but a child is not meant to deal with its reality crumbling apart so they either blame it on themselves or wish it away. It's a very normal reaction to an abnormal situation. As parents and caregivers are supposed to support and shelter their children, the reality that the people they rely on for survival, essentially their world, could in any way be broken or damaged is neigh unfathomable for a child.

i think the skeleton lady at the end is fran, because of the cat statues and all the other things fran met. Fran bows story takes place way earlier in the timeline.
