He probably believes himself to be the hero of the story. He targets dead children with troubled pasts, playing games with them, trying to comfort them in a weird way. But it's all wrong. The kids shouldn't be trapped in his game loops, the sort of limbo he creates for them breaks apart in pain and confusion. Like the Beldam or other fair folk, his love for the children is true, but inhuman.
Jokes aside, I feel like Morgo genuinely feels bad for Misfortune, I mean, yeah, ik he's evil and is literally leading her to her death, but still, you can hear from his voice that he literally feels bad. I also noticed that even if Morgo is evil, he seems better than Misfortunes parents, I mean, he makes her day better, make sure she stays innocent, and stops her from cussing. I bet he'd be a good fatherly figure if he wasn't evil.

And gain some of the best understanding, not just of what is going on flat out, but also in between the lines around 16. Of course as an adult you would hopefully understand more.
