I am new to using this product - if you are using it on something like a holster that both sides of the leather may be exposed to moisture - would you use the conditioner on both sides of the leather?

Absolutely! So as a leather conditioner it is great at revitalising and feeding the leather, as it is beeswax based it is great at giving you a water repellant top coat.
You might want to reapply on a regular basis if the item is seeing a lot of use.

@@HandmadeByAlex in that case would it make more sense to give the inside of the holster a coat prior to sewing the holster together? Seems like that would make it easier to apply for the first coat.

      Yes and no.
Yes for obvious reasons, however it can make it more difficult to stitch.
With something like a holster that you will have a bit of room inside of once it is made, I, personally would wait until it is finished before applying anything internal.
The other point to note is, if you have an "item" that will be in contact with the waxed inside, there will be transfer.
So I would be cautious as not to interfere with any moving parts or grips. For example your wouldn't want to try to rack a slide that has a wax film over it.

@@HandmadeByAlex ah true. I think I will start with a coat on the outside and leave the inside plain to see what happens

@@HandmadeByAlex oh - one last question - the container suggests using saddle soap on the leather before applying - have you tried this and does it make a big difference?

When you say it will "get rid of the suede effect" what do you mean by that?

It stiffens and smooth the nice soft finish that suede is known for.
It can be it's own look, so perhaps try applying some on a scrap/small piece and seeing what it looks like.
