I have recently got two of these, one for my fiance and one for myself. They work very well and I think it's good value for money. The only issue I had is the USB-C cable, when plugged into a USB3.0 port at my motherboard's I/O panel it made my voice sound like a machine. Simply plugging it into a USB2.0 port solves the issue. My fiance did not experience this as she had the cable plugged into a USB hub for all USB2.0 accessories. I might get a new set of cables eventually. Awesome review!
Glad you two are loving it! I've always known about the cable issue, but it's the first time I've heard that plugging it into USB 2.0 solves the issue. Thanks for sharing the info!
im super stuck between k688 and am8... so i like the mic roughly around 6-8 inches away from my face and its next to my PC with 10 fans and 1680 rpm.. which mic would you recommend for me in this case?
@@scuffiitv You can't go wrong with either! Sound-wise, the K688 is slightly smoother, and the AM8 has a thicker pop filter for plosive rejection. But overall they're close, but I have a slight bias towards the K688 because of the smooth sound. Fifine also talks about those two mics interchangeably for your purposes. I'd say go for the look that you like. :) You really can't go wrong with either!
Does the dual output (USB & XLR) of AM8 operate alternately or can they be used simultaneously? If they can be used simultaneously, is it possible as a backup in case one of them encounters an issue? How about K688? Can the USB & XLR be used simultaneously? I appreciate your help.
Can you get it as a kit with an included boom? You could do that with the 669B. I didn't so I had to source a compatible boom later. Better to get them together at teh same time from the same company in a kit I think.
@@DaveSoltura Super thanks, saves this blind girl from searching. I like my 669B and boom I had to find for it, but need a second one and time to go XLR
Hey, since you have both maono pd200x and fifine am8, why don't you make a video comparison between them? Since they both are super popular. Also if you had to suggest one of them for now for me, for usual voice overs and some occasional singing, which would be better? Thanks in advance
Thank you for the suggestion. Fifine AM8 all the way! The PD200x is nice with the software and all, but better to sound good without it. PD200x has grainy highs. AM8 still has a bit, but much more tame. I'd go with the AM8 for usual voiceovers with occasional singing.
windows 11 does nothing to the volume of my am8. I'm in usb mode and when I monitor my voice in the mic's jack, it sounds amazing but when i monitor it through discord/windows playback devices, the volume is really low, I tried adjusting the volume in the properties section in playback devices but it didn't do anything. Is there a way to make my mic louder? I also maxed out the mic gain on the mic itself Edit: i also used the start test feature in windows 11 sound settings and it came back to just 20% of total volume
Dave, which one would you say has the best noise canceling between these two? I have to type a lot during my conferences, and even with the keyboard behind my current mic it still sounds fairly loud, especially when I speak.
In my initial testing, the AM8 captures less sound from the sides. This means you have to aim it properly more. But really, you can't go wrong with either. Negligible difference. Video comparison of the two coming soon!
If you've got the budget, I think the K688 sounds marginally smoother and has a less scratchy top end than the AM8. The AM8 is no slouch though, and you can't go wrong either. It all boils down to which look you prefer.
@@luckmanolo2 If you can afford it, go with the AM8! It functions without an audio interface (which the PD100 needs) and it just sounds better. The PD100 is good for the price but can sound "metallic" at times. I'd say the AM8 is about 10% better sound-wise, but it's an important 10%.
Please tell me which microphone is best for me to choose up to $100? Input data: the current microphone is a t669 with a pantograph, the sound insulation of the room is 5/10, there are no sound panels (but there is a desire to purchase), an audio card is only built into the computer. Goals: voice-over of videos, recording videos on TH-cam or tick tok. Most likely in the future I will buy a sound card. Now I am most inclined to a dynamic microphone, but I am also considering condenser ones. Now the choice has fallen on 2 models from fifine: AM8 and K688. Which of these microphones should I choose, or are there better solutions?
Great video! I just need to cut the background noise of my room while maintaining a good audio quality for youtube videos. I have never used a dynamic mic. Is this really good at rejecting the background noise than a condenser mic?
It will still pick up noise of nearby objects and anything too loud (dogs, cars etc) will still be audible, but you’ll get fewer fan noises and humming. It’s worth it if you ask me!
@@DaveSoltura thanks! Humming and ac and fan noise is actually the main concern for me. Thanks for letting me know that it can help with that at least!

Hi! I recently bought the AM8 (literally today) and set it up with my pc. I'm a noobie at mics so I don't really understand a lot about them, however I just wanted to get one for vcing with friends/gaming. My audio is glitchy and cuts out a lot, but I've tried almost every volume for my input and every distance. Could you tell me how to fix this?
Hi! This is likely because the included cable in the AM8 is USB 2.0 but it needs a USB 3.0 cable. Type C is the shape, whereas 3.0 or the number is the connection speed. You would need a USB 3.0 cable with a type C connection.
Torn between the AM8 and K688, gonna use it mainly for streaming and gaming, and secondary for content creation like gadget reviews. Which one would you recommend?
Will have a video on this soon! But so far, if you prefer a bit more clarity, go with the AM8. If you prefer a bit more warmth, go with the K688. But you really cannot go wrong with either! You can even choose based on appearance.
i'm here once again, watching your video even if i have this mic now :D just bought it and was using it for a day now and oh it sounds so good! i only have it in usb mode because i don't have an audio interface yet. i just want to ask, what's the most ideal windows volume for this mic and the mic's gain? i have a boom arm for reference 😅
Your USB mode is absolutely all you’ll need for a long time! To be honest, I haven’t touched Windows volume in quite a while since I’ve been spoiled by gain knobs. 😂 I suggest doing some trial and error. What I would do is set Windows volume to 100 first. From there, make sure to find your ideal mic placement. This has a MASSIVE impact on how loud your sound will get. Check out the other video on my channel about mic placement. Once you have your mic placement, start shouting at the loudest volume you would be shouting at in a real situation. If you’re gaming, do the craziest scream you think you would do. If you’re singing, belt out the loudest chorus. If you’re recording a voiceover, perform the most intense section. You should hear clipping. Turn the gain down just a little bit and scream again. Repeat the process until your gain no longer clips at your loudest. This gives you the head room to make sure your voice over isn’t clipping. Maybe I should make a video about this haha.
Hi! I actually don't think the similar naming scheme between the two makes them "related mics." But either way-- If I have a treated room with soundproofing, I would prefer the A8. If I have none of those, the AM8 would sound better in an untreated space!
Hi! Thanks to this review, I finally decided to purchase the Fifine AM8! Thank you so much! I was thinking though, this is the only Fifine Microphone that I know of that doesn't have a Shock Mount, are there any Compatible Shock Mounts you know of that are suitable for this Mic that I can buy while waiting for my Fifine AM8 to arrive?
Thanks for the kind words! I did a quick search for you and found this. I can’t guarantee it’ll fit, so order at your own discretion. www.etsy.com/listing/1532099699/fifine-am8-shock-mount

@@BitInfinite When you buy the AM8, you’re paying for the preamps that come with it. So I’d go for USB if on a budget! It’ll take you at least $199 to find an audio interface that can make it sound better in XLR mode. The gains are too negligible.
