I tried IF as a petite and I have to admit it was disastrous, I have IBS and am prone to acid reflux and IF made it SO much worse. I started with the 12 hours, attempted to move up and quickly realized that it would be problematic. I experience a lot of acid and bloating and after a week I went back to normal. I’m also not a volume eater, so it’s hard for me to eat alot in one sitting.
I fasted for 36-48 hrs (Alternate day) followed by a 12 hour eating window....I lost 48 lbs and went from 190 to 142 lbs at 5'3. I did this for 7 months straight. It was actually doable but my emotions circled around eating. I did get to eat Whatever I wanted (hello Cold stones) and was no longer pre-diabetic. I have PCOS and my body was finally working. I worked out twice a day on eating days and once on non-eating days. Honestly, I've tried traditional dieting by counting macros but prolonged fasting was the only way I was able to lose weight. Unfortunately, I got very depressed and I was never able to get back on the horse again. Since I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism-- so I'm pretty convinced I GAVE myself a metabolic issue from years of caloric restriction. April, or anyone reading this -- If my body's metabolism is shot, would eating MORE food (protein) make me gain weight?
I’m 5ft and decided to try IF as well as a meat based diet, and I have lost 46 lbs and honestly feel like a different person!! I’m 43 and female just for reference. I am now down to my ideal weight and I’m very active, so I am now more intuitively eating. Sometimes I do OMAD, and I just try to make sure I vary my fasts. I eat high fat cuz my hormones were all sorts of out of balance, and it has helped tremendously. I could see how it might not be for everyone, but it really was life-changing for me!!
I'm 5"1 & I've been intermittent fasting for over 5 years straight now. My fasting schedule is I start eating at 12:00pm & stop eating at 6:00pm. I also work out 5 days a week. Strength training 3 days & cardio 2 days, along with walking 3 miles a day around my neighborhood. I weigh 126lbs. I am almost 40 years old. And I also eat a high protein diet. I've honestly been in the best body shape I've ever been in currently. Very satisfied with how much I have been able to transform my body in 5 years. Intermittent fasting is definitely a lifestyle & a journey once you get set into it. It was a little hard for me in the beginning, but now I'm so used to it that I don't see myself eating a different way. Good luck to anyone who is on an intermittent fasting journey 💗
@@reduxrouge I eat around 130-140 grams of protein a day. It was a struggle for me to get that high amount of protein in the beginning. But through trial & error I have dialed in what works for me & with the amount of time that I have. So to add to my over all protein target what I do is add Greek yogurt to my meals. So with dinner I add a good amount with my ground chicken & beans or with my ground beef. I also use whey protein & powederd peanut butter. I also eat eggs everyday. Pretty much every meal that I eat I make sure I have my high protein foods, then add my carbs or whatever else I want around it. I also noticed that I am not craving any carb heavy or overly sweet foods. I also am pretty much never hungry because I am full with the high amount of protein. Hope that helps!
I lost 32 pounds on IF without exercising ( I’ve been working out for a while now) with changing the quality of food i was eating. I adopted it as a life style now and i think that’s the main reason I didn’t gain back the weight
First time doing IF here and I've naturally gravitated towards the 18-6 window as I eat breakfast and lunch at my job. I eat very well there (trying to keep a calorie deficit) so that I don't feel hungry for the rest of the day. I workout around 4 times a week and move a lot everyday. Also, I do IF for 5 days and on the weekends I just eat when the family eats because I am home. So far, I've lost 2kgs in 3 weeks and feel energetic and happier! As a petite (5"3), I'll follow your advice and do 12-12 window just because I do not want to trigger any hormonal issues going forward. But I do feel like IF can be a part of my life from now on. Just found your channel and loving your videos!! Could you make a video dedicated to explaining sugar?? I have the biggest sweet tooth, and little knowledge of how it effects weight loss
I find change really hard, it messes with my schedule which is set for maximum rest times so I can take breaks from masking with people during the day. Any change in that wreaks havoc on my nerves ultimately ending in a crash or binge. Adding a strength training schedule into my break time when I already have a coping response that is healthy and works, I have a dog that I take on walks and I often plan out 2-7hour long walks weather permitting or I take him to a field and we play tug (tell me tugging against an 80Ib shepherd who is not letting go isn’t strength training leg, glute, core and arm muscles). I am a bit worried changing my eating habits might create more stressors surrounding my schedule, however I hope being aware of the stressors that could occur might help alleviate them from happening or resolve them better than my usual breakdown would. Lately I’ve noticed I have been eating mechanically, like it’s a chore that I have to do because it’s in the schedule. So I am trying IF so hopefully I don’t have to think so much about meals. Example, I would begin to get ready for work and someone will ask if I am bringing a lunch. Then I panic, even if my plan wasn’t to bring a lunch, and grab something that’s ready/not great because panic just turns off your brain. I also noticed I have a hard time with eating meals, like I’ll make a meal and then it takes a long time to eat it. Not sure what to do about that accept to cut back on the amount I put into a meal Example, I’ll pull out a banana and I usually split half between my dogs and then eat the rest while I make a slice of toast (slow eating takes like 5-10 minutes, it’s half a banana) I’ll graze on half the toast and then the other half sits for a few hours before I eat it. I should also say, I only really feel hungry when I am eating with people. Example, I can easily wait until my mother isn’t busy so we can sit down and make us both some tea and toast even if I wake up feeling hungry. If I make myself toast the feeling of hunger just goes away, like I don’t feel sick I just don’t feel like eating. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Because I’ve always been a sort of “social grazer” type and I don’t know if it’s really an issue per-say?
I lost my period for almost a decade due to an eating disorder. I got it back now for about a year and every time I attempt IF, my cycle gets thrown off and my hormones are all over the place. My cortisol skyrockets and I can literally feel the stress it puts on my body. My body just doesn't seem to tolerate IF at all and is extremely sensitive to fasting, I guess this is the consequence of the years of (extreme) restricting I put it trough during my ED.
Great info! I have a healthy relationship with food, I've never had a desire to try IF but this is really helpful to share with others. You touched briefly on petites having a slower metabolism, which I agree. But my whole life I've been told "you're so lean and fit because you have a fast metabolism." How would you respond to this? I lift weights and eat healthy balanced meals without depriving myself of things I like. Is there any videos you have that speak to petite women having slower metabolism vs faster like everyone assumes?
I did this in 2019 (I did a 16:8). It was kind of easy to fall into due to my schedule at the time, alongside a low carb, higher fat diet. Got headaches sometimes. I have achieved similar “results” both in my A1C (which was my original reason to try it) and weight as now when I eat a high protein diet and do weight training. IF would not work for me now because I only can work out in the early morning. I also am busiest during the “feeding window.” My schedule is naturally already more like 13-14 fasting you mention if it weren’t for the 2 calories of Amino Energy I take when I work out.
I've been doing it for about a 6 months l. It lost me about 4 pounds then i reached a stopping point, nothing would change except for my mood... I cut back even more calories for about a week then went on a total binge, my insecurities suffered lols ;-;

I'm 5'3 and I was doing frequent 24 fasts and did four 36 hour fasts over a couple of months. I exercise regularly, mostly weights and eat low carb, moderate protein. All whole food. I lost a little bit of weight at first and then rapidly gained weight. I don't see a lot of information about how it can shut down a persons metabolism and cause the body to hold onto weight. I ended up fatter.
In the past when I was 10kg lighter, I only did 14 - 16 hour fasts. I wanted fast weight loss with the longer fasts. Now that I stopped those longer fasts I'm losing weight.

Thinking about the time, 12 h is not so far off more traditional meal schedules (i.e. breakfast around 8 am, lunch at 12, supper around 6 pm) it is backed up by common sense ;)
I have a hard time eating 1800cals throughout the whole day like 7am - 11pm lol... I dont see how anyone can eat all that food in like 4 to 6hr windows.

What’s high protein for you? I try to eat 150-160g per day and it’s too exhausting to do that and IF.

@@Jaylade Over time I've conditioned myself to not eat after 6pm. It's really not that difficult to do, once your body gets used to it.

I second this request. I can eat healthy all day, but mess up by having too much sugar right before bed or in the middle of the night.

Look into Dr Mindy Pelz - she explains how to fast for women since we cannot fast the same as men can. Hope this helps!

Stick to 12h, the prolonged was too extreme. Stick with it for months, if you want go up to 16h not higher

It’s about calorie deficit, focus on your best way to get there. Don’t focus on the pebbles but the boulders! :)

A 12 hour fast is not very different from how I eat normally. I dont see how it would make a big difference in health of weight loss.

Look into autophagy as well as ketosis. IF isn’t a diet, plus not everyone eats less calories with less time to eat.
