Bulls vs. Sixers - 1996 (72-10 season) Michael Jordan 48 points in 3 qtrs

    More trash-talking in the media preceded this game with Jerry Stackhouse saying he beat Jordan in some one on one games and Vernon Maxwell saying "to hell with Jordan and Pippen". Jordan came out on fire and ended with 48 in 3 qtrs while also making life hell for Stackhouse and Maxwell on the defensive end. Pippen added 20 points, 10 assists and 5 boards. The Bulls scored 42 points in the 3rd qtr and put the game away and the 4th qtr was basically garbage time for the bench.

    I always loved when Rodman celebrate like a little child after a dunk by himself. He brought so much passion and heart to the Bulls. GSW of 2015/2016 might be the best shooting team ever, but they are nothing to the bulls when it comes to pure passion for the game... imagine what the Bulls would have been if they were allowed to get a center like SHAQ or even THE DREAM??? they maybe would have go 77:5 or even better....

Now trash talk is a part of the game, i understand that, but MJ is that one dude you don't talk shit to, you just don't. Just let your play do the talking. I remember watching this game and just seeing MJ absolutely torch and annihilate both young dumb Stackhouse and MJ's so called rival Mad Max. MJ had 48 points in only 3 quarters,'96 bulls was sick.

    @MIKESOWELL Yeah, i know what you mean, i was a little dissapointed Phil took MJ out as well. He would have hit 60 points easily in that game, i guess since the Bulls we're torching Philly so bad on they're home floor, he decided to take MJ out. The Bulls were up by more than 30 points going into the fourth period. The Bulls had so many games like this in '96 and '97, where MJ, Pip & Worm hit the bench early, and that definantly costed them points, rebounds,assists,steals,blocks, etc.

      By the second quarter the sixers had given up hope and were completely demoralized Jordan and the Bulls had that effect on bad teams. Many people don't understand that when the Bulls were dominating the league, they would rest their starting lineup in the 4th quarter many games because the game was over by three quarter time. To me that epitomized what basketball was all about. They went out there to end the game in three quarters and rest in 4th to rinse and repeat again. How many teams have we seen do that consistently since the 90's bulls?

      It was temporarily moved in at the top. From 23.75 feet to 22 feet. The corners stayed at 22 feet, which is where they've always been. The league was trying to encourage more 3PT shots, as at the time, the 3 pointer was considered a gimmick and the game was all about getting inside. They eventually moved the 3PT line back to 23.75 feet, and eliminated hand checking and implemented a 3 second rule in the paint. Which is why the game looks the way it does now.

    I'm from philly & am a huge tar heel & sixers fan, and I remember when stackhouse started talking all that noise...i remember thinking "man, you need to shut up...the last person you want to cross is MJ..." usually when people do that, they get hit up for 30, 40, or maybe 50...it's safe to say, Jerry learned a lesson here!

    Stackhouse said during Jordan's first retirement "He isnt as good as he was before ,I beat him 1 on 1"
    After that,whenever Bulls played against Sixers and Stackhouse,Jordan never scored under 40 points.

    This is the difference between this year's Warriors and the 96 Bulls. The 96 Bulls were chillin the entire game against bad teams... and sure enough, bad teams are the ones who were lucky to beat them that year. 75% of MJ's 50+ point games came against winning teams. Prototype example was this year when they had played the Grizz and were losing... then a Grizz player talked shit off of the bench and Mj went on a rampage, winning the game. This team could have easily blown out teams by more. Imagine what a nightmare they'd be defensively and on the break today?

    • @KCY4LUNG
      @KCY4LUNG 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I agree. and those Bulls losses were closely contested ones winning by a margin of 1-5 point difference. I thought that they would get a 74-8 or even 76-6 record during that time because they were just unstoppabull. but the losses came due to them just chillin around especially in the latter part of the season. not to mention that that era was stacked with Super Teams. the East and West teams were scary strong and any of those teams other than the Bulls could become champions and beat today's NBA champions for the last 10 years.

    I almost just hated on the Bulls, but remembered how annoying Kobe haters are, so I slapped my face and will shut it. I must admit that Kobe's era wasn't nowhere near as enjoyable as Mj's. That era was almost as exciting as watching Steph Curry play. I do miss MJ though. The man dunked from the free throw line, and use to walk on the air as if God was cheating for him. SMH.
