You got me, Jess! I am 85 yrs old and have been gardening most of my life, but I have never grown broad beans. In Illinois, in Maryland, and now in Virginia I don't know anyone else that grows them; plus I remember reading something about favism long ago and must have put a mental x on them. Well I ordered Aquadulce and planted it in a pot last week. Hmmmmm
My mother used to grow them and they were delicious. Jessie inspired me to try to sprout a bunch of old Fava and other broad beans. Amazingly many sprouted and now I have flowering broad bean plants all over the garden. They are quite a pretty plant. I keep expecting aphids to find them but so far, aphids have only found some of the brassicas. I hope I get to taste some green, which is the best part of growing one's own beans.
We need an italian person to confirm it, but when you are looking for seeds, I think spigariello is minestra nero. They aren't a hybrid so you can save seeds. Spig is a stupendous plant - goes on and on and on and doesn't seem to attract anywhere near the pests of other brassicas. The ones I planted last Austraiian autumn have just gone through a blisteringly hot Australian summer and are still churning out yummy leaf broccoli.
Let me write this comment again ‘cause TH-cam flipped to the next video before I could post it. I believe it had to do with my little apricot tree has finally bloomed! That little tree I started as a pit traveled with me from California to Texas and year after year just leaves pushed out. Then bloom! My new compact blueberry has also bloomed. Why it must be spring! Though my apricot tree did get gnarly last summer and I cut them way back. Now I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t have….ugh. Oh well. Peppers out hardening off. Tomatoes still growing indoors. It’s March after all. 😊
Wow your apricot tree is massive. I didn't think it would grow like that out in exposed areas. I have seen people talking about the need to grow in greenhouses or polytunnels in the UK. I have a little apricot tree that I grew from a supermarket fruit seed. In fact I tried growing a few and for some reason this one that I have kept going has really nice small leaves with red branches and leaf veining which I love - completely different to the other ones I grew. I have kept it in a sheltered south facing area of my garden as I have always been worried it wouldn't survive. It's about 6 years old now and still tiny because I can't really imcrease the pot size as much as I'd like. It has never blossomed. Not sure it ever will unless I increase the pot size to allow the plant to get to a bigger size. Because it's grown from supermarket fruit seed I suspect that even if it does fruit the fruit may not be very nice but I wouldn't care because it's such a nice looking little tree anyway. Would be nice to have some blossom though.
Sound was great 👍👍 It's lovely when things start to peek through so uplifting ❤❤ Never seen Apricot tree in flower before BEAUTIFUL 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Love and 😊 gardening x

Your Ailsa Craig's might perk up yet. When I've grown some they've always looked pretty rubbish in comparison to the other onions I've got, even a month or so after they're in the ground I'm thinking "there's no way these will get bigger than the others", but amazingly they do.
I'm quite amazed how much overwintered Jess. Hope all that digging didn't leave you as achey as it did me. I dug out my compost bin and spread its contents about my flower boarder & veg patch yesterday, this morning i could just about get in & out my car 😂🤗🤣 Its all very exciting though.
Your broad beans are amazing😅 I was scared to put mine out but after seeing yours, mine are being turfed out this weekend😂 they've live their life in the greenhouse so time they stood on their own. 😮 keep up the good work xxx
Wow, you can really see how close the school is without the poly over on its frame. We had a few days of false spring and the garlic started popping up, but I never count anything out until April because I’m shocked every year at same varieties in different beds growing differently. I use it like a pest deterrent planting it everywhere because the garlic odor repulses some pests so when it’s pulled the odor stays in the soil when planting in tomatoes and peppers. 😊
Thanks Jess, Reminding us its going to be MAD MARCH sowing 😅 Im in Cambridgeshire but seen your fruit trees and flowers are far more advanced than mine. Lots of cherry plum blossom, but notice the pigeons seem to like them too much.😢WCL

Lovely video as always Jessie ❤ Looking at your video and envying all of you that can dig in the soil and sow seeds all the year! Here in Norway, you have to have a heated greenhouse to do that! But! I think I can start sow something small in a couple of weeks, like salad and radishes. Can’t wait!
Hi Jessie and your Mum, it is rather chilly at the moment. My Kinsland Wight are all doing wrll, they are in 30L pots in my fruit cage since October, hoping not to get rust on them this season. I've not grown this variety before, I bought them from a local garden centre. I normally grow casablanca, which I buy from Wilko, but, sadly, they have closed 😢 lovely plot tour! Lil still has that gorgeous fluffy coat, too! Good job digging out all your polytunnel compost. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Hi Christine! You seem to be one of the lucky few with good kingsland's this year! Oh i know, i popped into kingston last week to grab something from Wilko and only remembered when i got there :(
Thanks for the video as always. I couldn’t decide on tomatoes so growing all 19 varieties! Got hundreds of seedlings of things growing and potatoes chitting. Also have a red potato, sarpo mira. Didn’t realise it was red when my sister got it for me, will have to see how that goes as I don’t usually eat red potatoes as they make the inside of my mouth really sore. Can’t remember if I’ve tried them without the skin, though, so going to try that. Looking forward to when it’s warm enough to get everything out as am running out of room!
We have a concrete floor for our greenhouse here because rats do eat through wire quite easily if we were just to put wire on the ground and put soil over the top to grow the plants. I don’t know why but rats here in New Zealand can eat through anything metal that you use for flooring hence the concrete was used for ours.
Buy a cheap mini tunnel for the garden whilst your conservatory is out of action. You can always use it on the allotment later for frame. Interesting video Jessie. Your plot has a lot of character built up over the years.
So interesting to see the difference in the burgeoning life from London to Leeds in Yorkshire. My buds are still tightly packed so a few weeks behind yours. I also had an epic fail with some garlic though mine are Rue de Lautrec. Buds started to show but no roots at all on any of them?? A mystery!!
Hoping ive ordered the italian broccoli you have Jess as it looks yummy, but getting seeds into Tasmania is somewhat difficult, also looks like it is called Spigariello here and after searching finally found one company in Victoria who ships these seeds to Tasmania. Busy planting Autumn seeds, and just received 6 raspberry plants to add to my berry collection. Its looking great on the plot Jess, spring flowers gorgeous.
Apricots are so stressful to grow, every visit to the plot looking to see how advanced the flowers are, looked at the night time temperatures for FROST and yes you guessed it two nights of frost in a row so I hope the second lot of flowers due to open shortly are ok. Take care both of you X
Just getting over a cold first day I've felt like getting some gardening done. Moved all my pots of bulbs to give a good display when they start to bloom. Onion seedlings need potting on a job for another day. First lot of flower seeds down more to sow next month.
Hiya Jessie enjoyed a visit. Yay for kitchen/cooking news. Ps Bertie needs a makeover lol unless there are nests of course. Currently it’s a sunny 14* across the pond southern Ontario Canada crazy weather? Blessings to you and Muma. 🇨🇦🐝
Hey Jessie, How old is that kaleet plant? I am starting mine for the first time and the seedlings all look good!! I have so many seedlings sprouting everywhere there is only one space to sit and no where to set down anything larger than a pencil. lol My tomatoes set at the very bottom of the rootrainers are now 6 inches out of the soil. These were started on Feb 2nd. I really like your increase activity around flowers. I am so excited to see how it goes for you this summer. I am excited to see how your potatoes get on this summer as well. Getting a floor will be the best part of 2024 I am sure. Some of the tomato varieties you can plant only one seed each. I always have to choose the ones I need for canning and then is there room for the ones to experiment with. Great fun coming for the 2024 Garden Season. Cya next time
Sowed them about April last year, i think! Going to get some earlier ones in this year. Glad you're in full seedling mode :D I'm just about to enter it. And yes, the flowers are really exciting me this year. I can't wait for those summer days, BBQ on, flowers and warm grass :D
Ahh, the fickle rhubarb! I had one that never grew so I told it I was getting rid of it and threw in in the compost. Low and behold, the damn thing started growing so I hoicked it out and replanted it. It has been a healthy specimen ever since! Obviously don't like being threatened 😆Your apricot blossom looks beautiful! Is she scented? I have a dwarf russian almond and the scent is exquisite, especially this time of year! 🥂
Hey Jessie me and the very lovely liz ( wifey )have come to London for my 60th birthday I know it is short notice but I'm wondering if there is any chance we could met up in a pub or come and see you at your plot regards Shaun.
Great update Jessie , I have replanted my kingsland white i had grown last year and it seems slow but fine , I planted it last October and didn't appear till beginning of Feb so I think I will get some from this year but how good we will have to wait and see , keep up the good work and say Hi to your mum for me xx
Looking good! My last frost date is April 25 here. I've got several things started indoors but will be a while before I can plant in the ground. Keep the vids coming. I enjoy them. Happy growing!

I would love to stick a concrete base down but thats one of the few things you're not allowed to do on my allotment site!
Glad I'm not alone in the tomatoes decisions
How are we ever meant to choose?
Ive narrowed it down to 27.. I have space for about 10 🤦🏼♀️
Oh bloody hell, i'm having such a hard time too!!
I am going to buy peppermint chard seeds tomorrow, it looks lovely. Chard always brightens the garden.
Its just so jolly isn't it?! even if you don't eat it its worth it as an ornamental!
@@JessieatPlot37 well, we dont eat as much as I grow but our three guinea pigs love it too.
Love to see your mom out with you!
Hahhaha!
Buy a cheap mini tunnel for the garden whilst your conservatory is out of action. You can always use it on the allotment later for frame. Interesting video Jessie. Your plot has a lot of character built up over the years.
Might have to! But the garden is packed out with all the old kitchen cupboards at the mo hahahah!
A lovely video Jessie as always 😊
I was in Chapman's last week and they still have loads of Red Duke of York if all else fails! Looking lovely, Jess!!!
Right! I'll head back there then! thank you!
So interesting to see the difference in the burgeoning life from London to Leeds in Yorkshire. My buds are still tightly packed so a few weeks behind yours. I also had an epic fail with some garlic though mine are Rue de Lautrec. Buds started to show but no roots at all on any of them?? A mystery!!
What a strange year its shaping up to be on the garlic front!!
Thank you for a lovely video Jessie.🙂
Thank you! :)
I think yes, Spigarello! Someone else mentioned that. Fingers crossed it arrives and grows well for you because i'm a total fan of the stuff!
Mine are the same of yours on my freezing kitchen windowsill same size too
Hahhaha!
Hey Jessie. We switched out Kingsland Wight and Eden rose for Music last autumn as they failed twice on us.
Pants!
Apricots are so stressful to grow, every visit to the plot looking to see how advanced the flowers are, looked at the night time temperatures for FROST and yes you guessed it two nights of frost in a row so I hope the second lot of flowers due to open shortly are ok. Take care both of you X
Hhahaha, stressful but worth it!
Hello from the USA / Kansas
Hello!
Great video
I always enjoy watching
Thank you Kevin!
Red Duke of York seems to be in short supply this year Jessie. Shops are selling regular Dukes hoping we won't notice.
Yeah, loads of normal Dukes around and you don't often see that one do you!
You need to get a 4 wheeled trolley no lifting😊
hahahah!
Just getting over a cold first day I've felt like getting some gardening done. Moved all my pots of bulbs to give a good display when they start to bloom. Onion seedlings need potting on a job for another day. First lot of flower seeds down more to sow next month.
Lots getting done Rosemary!
Hiya Jessie enjoyed a visit. Yay for kitchen/cooking news. Ps Bertie needs a makeover lol unless there are nests of course. Currently it’s a sunny 14* across the pond southern Ontario Canada crazy weather? Blessings to you and Muma. 🇨🇦🐝
Thanks Beverley! And oh yeah, she really needs a bit of a pamper poor love but although she is on the to-do list she's a little way down!!
Thanx for replying 🇨🇦🐝@@JessieatPlot37
Your meal ,looked so good.
:D it was tiny but so good!
Hahhaha, i think they play games! Not a strong scent no, but there is the hint of a kind of sweetness in the air around it.
Hey Jessie me and the very lovely liz ( wifey )have come to London for my 60th birthday I know it is short notice but I'm wondering if there is any chance we could met up in a pub or come and see you at your plot regards Shaun.
Another great video - thanks Jess🌿🌱💚
Thank you! :)
Hello Jessie Babe.
What plants do you allow some go to seed for the next year?
Great update Jessie , I have replanted my kingsland white i had grown last year and it seems slow but fine , I planted it last October and didn't appear till beginning of Feb so I think I will get some from this year but how good we will have to wait and see , keep up the good work and say Hi to your mum for me xx
thanks Jim! Good job on keeping your own to grow on, it all seems that something hasn't gone right with the new ones this year.
@@JessieatPlot37 fingers crossed for you Jessie xx
Looking good! My last frost date is April 25 here. I've got several things started indoors but will be a while before I can plant in the ground. Keep the vids coming. I enjoy them. Happy growing!
Ah yeah, thats quite late isn't it!
Meditation Pond 🐰
Absolutely!
really enjoyed that jessie
Thanks you as always Steven!
AilSa pronounced Ale S a please❤. It's my daughter's name, an onion & a tomato variety. Otherwise love Plot 37!❤ I have a small Lotty, no dig (I'm 77!)
Ah interesting, my friend Ailsa pronounces her name like I say it. Silent S. 🤷♀️ There is also a pub up the road from here called the Ailsa Tavern and it’s said Ayla. Funny old world 😅
😂 my Artichoke is exactly the same, 4 years old, a foot tall but the leaves are pretty. 👍 how is your asparagus? I noticed mine is just starting to show.. it fills my heart.❤
Hahha, neither of us are destined for chargrilled artichoke hearts on the BBQ this year i fear! Ooooh, no, haven't noticed any asparagus yet!
Great tour!
Thank you Sylvie!
Greetings
"Bung" them in notification on your phone?
Cheers,
Upstate NY
Hah, yep!
Yey Kitchen, Yey Polytunnel💚
Yay!! :D
What the heck?? My Kingsland Ws garlic haven’t grown either 😮 I planted them over 4 months ago! What's going on here?
So many people!! Something is most definitely not right
I’m now waiting for my garlic to appear cross your fingers!
everything crossed!
Am growing something that looks very similar named SPIGARIELLO 'LISCIA'
Yes! A couple of people have mentioned that its also called Sprigareillo. :D
How weird I had 4 varieties of garlic all cloves of 3 varieties planted have grown lovely leaves but as with you and the other people you mentioned nothing from the Kingsland Wight!
Something gone seriously wrong with it this year!
@@JessieatPlot37 As soon as I finished watching I got in touch with the company I ordered the garlic from and have now received a refund or rather a credit. Which is great, so thanks Jessie as I probably wouldn't have complained normally.
Any advice for the care of Black/ Red Currants and Gooseberries?
USA
Zone 6A
Zone 6a is a bit out of my area of knowledge i'm afraid!
@@JessieatPlot37
Perhaps in general?
another lovely vlog....er Here's the thing Jess is it us (weather awful here)or was there a problem with the edit?(really not complaining, but its normally seamless) Might have to move further south so I can grow Apricots too!
Hi Rob, where was the error?
😆😆😆
:D
Pronounced alesa craig rather than isla craig I believe
Just been having this debate Neil! My friend Ailsa pronounces it with a silent S so i've always said it that way.
Jesse, please can you help me? I’m a brand new gardener. I’m up against it as it is because my sunlight is shite! I’ve had probably 98% success rate in my germination of all of my early crops but they are leggy and the rest have attitude! My Cosmos! I swear has fashioned it’s self to great me with a big middle finger every morning and my sprouts are stumped, they are like feed me bitch I won’t be feeding you! Do I leave my lights on 24/7? I’ve left my shitty lights on for 8 hours a day and my cucumbers are magnificent as are my peppers but the rest hate my bones! Help an idiot out 🤝 please! How long should I leave my lights on? I’ve shed actual tears over these monsters! I don’t even think I can bring myself to eat anything even if a miracle occurs and they produce anything! It would be akin to eating my grandchildren is that weird? That’s weird 🤦♀️😫🤣 I’m emotional. How long do I keep my lights on anyways 🤣
Hi Jess how are you. I can get you 2kg of Red Duke here in Ireland if you want me to send them to you?
Thats very kind of you Marion! I'm pretty sure i'll be able to get some if i go to a bigger garden centre, i've just been popping into the little places.
Ok Jess 👍 your welcome 🙂🇮🇪
Your Mickey Mouse voice real cool
Hahha
If your mum can’t work because she’s cold why does she drag herself to the allotment?
What an idiotic question.
To enjoy it fool
