As a trivia nerd, I’d like to point out that that black and yellow paint scheme which is usually associated with Laiho is actually paint scheme what Roope Latvala used long before Laiho. In mid-80’s in Finland was band called Stone and because Finland is small country that was pretty much the only thrash metal band around. Stone was huge thing back in late 80’s and it-influenced lot of young musicians like Laiho and it is still somewhat cult band. At that time, Roope was Stone’s lead guitarist and he played black and yellow Jackson. And as far as I know that huge influence that Stone and Latvala gave to Alexi is the reason why Alexi played Jackson with same paint scheme.

I bought the black/yellow alexi in the mid 2000’s but had to order a case. To my suprise the pink alexi came inside. A $200 case with a 1k plus guitar… what a deal 🤘
I have the 2008 red stripe version of this guitar. Got it for $200 out of a pawn shop because they listed it as "broken". It had a piece broken off the headstock because it had been dropped. I bought it right away and glued the piece back on. I was surprised at how minimal the damage was on the points since it had been dropped. I touched up those dings, gave it a good setup and IT SHREDS! I love this guitar! Best $200 spent on a guitar ever!
It's an iconic guitar, almost every thrash band in the 80's played either randy roads or king v. In my opinion Grover Jackson nailed the design of the ultimate heavy metal guitars

Jackson made an Alexi signature. It was a STARS series and only sold in Japan and Finland. He went to ESP because the Wildchild Jackson, Stone Jackson and a few of the Jackson Alexi prototypes got stolen. He couldn't find another one because they were on tour, and Jackson wouldn't send him a guitar, so he went to ESP while they were in Japan and they had the original black and yellow ESP Alexi in about a week.
It was not an stars series, it was basically just rr3 with one pickup and yellow bevels, 22 frets and a bolt neck. Not to mention that it had a licensed floyd rose, so not a stars guitar. It was named RR/LL becouse it was Laiho and Latvala model.

It had a Yellow Jackson logo, 24 frets and an actual Floyd. The guitar you're thinking of is the RR22....literally the 22 fret version of the one in this video.
This guitar was sitting in my local music shop many years ago. I liked it for the Laiho connection and my own personal taste. But it was a bit pricey for me. Until the day they dropped the price to get rid of it. So I bought it at around AU$800 off RRP. I intended to sell it for profit, but since it was my only Rhoads I held onto it all these years. Plays well and is still mint (no cracks in the finish either) and I think I'll hold onto it.

As these are getting harder and harder to find COB/BAF or just Alexi fans in general can rejoice in the fact that history repeats itself as right now, Jackson have a black and yellow rhoads including gold hardware in their X series line. Sure it's not a single humbucker config like this old school one, but it's still pretty damn close. The fact they also released a black and pink with pink inlays and a black and green with green inlays at the same time leaves me with no doubt in my mind that they were once again paying tribute to Alexi.
I am pretty sure he had one that was pink like your saying too. The green one, there is pictures of him live with one, I have a magazine with a picture of him and there is a few in a standing case, they maybe esp but I definitely remember him having a few weird hair metal colors. He was a fan of hair metal so he did have some weird guitars too in general besides the V

I actually own the black and pink one; the moment I heard Alexi passed away I knew I had to get a tribute to him, and my brain always pictures him with the blank and pink ESP, so I got the matching Jackson.
As a children of bodom fan, well, late children of bodom, I wasn't a real fan till around 2017, I just wanted to say that the closing demo was very Alexi Laiho like, and honestly want to say thank you for bringing this guitar to light, now I have my sights on another guitar to fulfill my fantasy of owning a guitar that is close to Alexi's, thank you KDH.
Ive heard multiple stories about how and where Laiho's Jackson's were stolen including out of a van in Japan on tour. Alexi had stated in multiple interviews that his Jacksons were stolen from the bands rehearsal space in Helsinki. Not while actively touring.

The official fan site stated that it was a party in Finland, organized by their record label Spinefarm Records, for all its musicians. Plenty of instruments were there, but only Alexi's two Jacksons were stolen.
I’ve owned one since about 2008-2009, rumor had it that Alexi used an EMG 85 at a point (I did that for a while, still go back and forth). I love that you put this out, glad to see somebody else with some appreciation for it beyond the Bodom lore.
Alexi didn't use emgs in his Jacksons. He had some jackson pickups with a built in pre amp. Also, there was a limited run of black and yellows with reverse inlays and binding.

IIRC the ESP signature model included the EMG HZ with the gain boost (his signature pickup), and the original Jackson also had a gain boost paired with a passive pickup (I think that's where he got the idea for his sig pickup). He always had the gain boost on, so I'm sure an active pickup like the 81 was a close approximation for the RR24.
I've been watching you for so long and I always had the impression that you're quite the knowledgeable guy, but OMG you could most definitely use a few restringing tips when it comes to floyds!
I own a few of Alexi's signature model ESP/LTD/Edwards guitars because they are my absolute favorite guitars. I've never fell in love with a Jackson, but I'd still like to own one of these at some point. A similar 2007 one just sold a few weeks ago for $2,100 USD.
Even back then £599 was a steal for that guitar. I almost sold my one years ago, but changed my mind at the last minute and do not regret it. The perspective buyer even understood why I changed my mind.

Growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s, listening to the first three COB records, the best ones, i can confirm that this was considered Alexi's unofficial signature. Everybody wanted one, but the prices were ridiculous back then.
Other thing to note on the original Alexi Rhoads models were that they had non-recessed Floyd Roses and the last four frets were scalloped on the Stone RR. Also I remember the RR24’s being $1000 USD when they were knew and I bought mine locally about two years for $1400. However mine came with the molded Jackson case, gold hardware, and was the limited edition one with the reverse inlays/ivoroid binding.
Back in ~2008-9 I wanted one of these SO badly, played something similar in a shop and just could not get over how awkward 'V' shaped guitars were for me and was disappointed how I'd have to play it between the lap if I wasn't standing. Really appreciate this series, it's fascinating having people explain their guitar collections and revisiting bands like Children of Bodom definitely inspires some Sunday listening!
I totally understand how you feel, I have a very similar problem with Explorers. I love the way they look, but I play in classical position when sitting down, and Explorers are extremely uncomfortable to play in that position.

I remember when I was going to order a red pinstripe version of this guitar from ams and the dude said "sorry we're sold out of the red ones and it looks like all we have are the yellow pinstripe ones" I was a little disappointed and said whatever I'll take it. When it arrived and I looked at it I knew I had no regrets! I've had this hell raiser for about 15 years now ❤

I've only ever wanted to play Gibson's, and I have been very fortunate to have owned, and stupid enough to have sold, a number of Gibson's that I really wish I still had, but emigrating was expensive and sacrifices had to be made. The one excursion I made away from Gibson was when I bought a red Jackson Rhoads. While I love Randy, and that Concord he played was epic, I hated the one I had. Way too light, and the neck was so freaking thin! Fortunately I have been able to build up my Gibson's again, and there was much rejoicing. Great video, BTW...love your stuff. I own a RR1 in dark metallic blue from about 2008 and it has been the best hot rod guitar I've ever owned and all my guitars are hard rock/metal guitars It has passive pups and it screams Got it because of my love for Randy Rhodes music and style I'm 56 and I still play it every chance I get
Correction:The Original Jackson RR 24 “Wild Child” from the the early 2000’s included the Original Floyd Rose along with a EMG-HZ H-2 Model with a afterburner Boost preamp switch on the guitar.Other than that everything else is on point,love your content!
Re-stringing a Floyd Rose bridge is easy if you change one string at a time, changing the outside strings in - or inner strings out. I’m a bit of a mechanic nut so I like the process & reward of it. Plus I highly recommend installing a Tremsetter. But changing them all at once - I started out doing that & yes it’s a huge headache.
These are my absolute favourite production guitars, hence why I have 6 2006 RR24 - Yellow bevel Reverse MOTO Inlays + Iviroid binding 2007 RR24 - White w/ Ebony Board 2008 RR24M White 2008 RR24M Black (x2) 1 with 9 volt the other with 18 volt mod 2007 RR24 Red Bevel In my experience none of mine have developed any finish cracks or checks. That complaint is likely the result of improper storage (temperature and humidity) + over tightening of hardware / leaving screw holes exposed for long periods of time.
i had one but unfortunately sold it some years ago, wish i hadn't :( what a great instrument it was. straight to the point, no nonsense, one pickup, 24 frets. interestingly, there was this one (the one you're wielding) and the RR24 limited with reverse inlays, a nice binding around the neck and a yellow jackson-logo on the headstock. try finding one these days, you'll easily cross the magical 1,5k mark.

I bought a rhoads earlier this year. White with black trim. It's a lower end model. I paid about €350 for it on Thomann. But it has 2 humbuckers and a Floyd. I also got a hard case for it. I haven't played it in a couple of weeks though because I need to get a couple of things done to it and my luthier said he won't be available until the end of July. I posted a video of it when I got it but I didn't play it on video because I haven't had a guitar in 13 years before this one. P.S. I like your cat.
I have the same Jackson RR24, but the shark tooth inlays are reversed. I bought it when it first came out, and it has held up well and still looks brand new.
Those reverse shark fins were the first run and quite rare. Neck/head stock binding, too, correct? They'll end up being the most sought after down the road.
My favourite guitar of all time and like you, I was hugely influenced by early Anthrax and Chris Holmes of WASP. Couldn't beat them back in the day. I could never afford a Jackson back in the day so bought a Charvel Avenger instead, only recently being able to pick up a Jackson RRx10. Not as nice as yours but plays fantastic. Loved this video.
I was fortunate enough to hang out and take lessons every single day for a year (2004) with Dan Spitz. I watched him prepare for the reunion tour in my living room. I asked him every question I could about gear hahaha
Old 90s and 00s Prestige ibanez guitars have been going up in recent years. Not just inflation wise either. The RG1570 I bought back in 2013, for $500 usd is now routinely selling for double that these days. I've seen some of the more desirable colors go for even more.
I remember going to my local Soundcontrol (who have since folded) and they had one in stock although it was the white one with black bevels. It was love at first sight and I wanted it so bad but I couldn't get it as I was still a student and had no income of my own. It tore me apart not being able to get that and then it went out of production. It was Japanese so was next to the USA ones. I didn't get a Rhoads until eleven years later and that was a Pro Series RRMG. A great guitar and very beautiful that is but I still yearn for a Japanese RR24.
Love this video. Just getting into Alexi now (a bit late unfortunately). The only other difference I see based on some photos you showed is neck binding.
As an avid Jackson fan and specifically the RR model, it’s a personal quest of mine to get one of these guitars. Not specifically the “Wild Child” variant per se, but any of the RR24 single humbucker guitars from Japan. The RR model has been my favorite guitar since I started playing about 15 years ago.
Two reasons behind the cutaway, 1st, Alexi actually does play quite a bit above the 19th fret, 19 thru 24 are scalloped. 2nd, ESP was smart enough not to completely rip off the design of the Jackson RR model.
A Jackson RR is like a Ferrari: it's only good for one thing, but that one thing it's good at, it really excels at. I've owned three, and love the way one with non-active pups in it produce a natural tone that bottom-heavy but tight, a sharp tone, and a smooth and richly-defined mid-range. For reference one had the Seymour-Duncan jazz set, The second had Dimarzio X2Ns in it, and the third had BL500s in it. The BL500 one was the best one.
I've never owned a Jackson but I have a 2007 charvel made in Japan I like it a lot it's got a pearl caster bridge and spiesel lockers on it no lockdowns works great.
There was a 60 unit series of Jackson's RR-LL in Finland which is very similar but with gold hardware. It was around 1998. LL stands for Laiho/Latvala. It was on sale in my town's music for 6995 finnish mark. Still know now at least 2 owners of them.
Liked your video, but also a few inconsistencies. I have not heard about finish cracking earlier, and I've been in both the Jackson and COB communities since 2008. Unless you can link me to some others with the same issue, I think it is isolated to your guitar. I've had 2 from these series, the black and yellow one like you have here which I bought new in 2009. It still looks factory-new, no paint issues, never bumped it into anything, no dings, nothing. Was my only guitar for over 8 years. I also briefly owned a RR24M, which has damage in all kinds of spots from the previous owner. But that one, also, did not have paint cracking issues, at all. Alexis guitar had neck binding - this you will only find on the limited edition RR24 with reverse sharkfin inlays. Which would have been a nice thing to discuss in your video: there were around 300 of this guitar made with those reverse sharkfins and cream neck binding (the normal one also has neck binding, but it is black so you barely notice it). Besides that, there is a difference in the Floyd Rose tremolo (though admittedly this is only different in where the tremolo was made - it's still the same quality and specification). Alexi didn't use an EMG 81 pickup in his Jacksons, ever. His Jacksons were outfitted with Jacksons J50BC ceramic humbucker with a Jackson JE1000 Electronic Boost circuit (and mid freq shift). His ESP guitars he had later were outfitted with an EMG HZ-H2, combined with a MM04 booster (which was a clone of the Jackson JE1000 booster from back in the day). Before anyone asks me if I want to sell mine: I will never. It was my first serious guitar and it was thanks to the help of my parents that I could acquire it - and thus it holds tremendous sentimental value. Besides that, Alexi and Roope were and still are my absolute guitar heroes, so that is another reason to never sell. Alexis death may have caused another spike in these guitars prices, but the real truth is that the guitars that Jackson has been putting out of Indonesia are a very different type of kit, it just isn't the same quality anymore. If you're lucky, you can still get a great one, but to have that happen is kinda rare. These japanese Jacksons, up until they stopped making them, were amazing guitars for their price. :)
Incredible guitar! I was given one of the Kevin Bond signature models many years ago. Super fun guitar. Might I suggest getting some other cleaning tools if you're going to keep doing this. Namely, a softish stiff brush to get that dust, skin flakes, etc... out of the crevices that guitars like this one tend to have in the trem & headstock tuners areas. Fender Strats have a lot of the same hiding spots for debris. I dig this series of videos, keep them coming 👍👍
Alexi's ESPs never used active EMGs. He used the passive H2 witch if you look, has poll pieces. the 81 does not. Granted the 81 is for most people the go-to EMG witch might be why most people don't even know that passives are a thing.
He used to use the Hz-H4 with the MM-04 Pre Amp Boost. The modern signature models with the pole pieces use the EMG HZ FH-2. There was also a brief period in time where he used the Seymour Duncan Blackout
I have his original released Alexi 600, it uses passive HZ4(HZ-H4?) Its a super hot pickup as is. Later he had a active EQ/booster for his passive pickups. Which needs a battery. He ran all that into (for a long time) Lee Jackson Pre amps, then into a marshall. However i think an HZ pickup is a passive variant of the 81. Might be different poles. But all in all its just the windings of the copper that affect most of a pickups performance. I don't see everyone's obsession with active pickups. I really enjoy to tone of the passives. You can almost always add more gain to a signal down the chain and not worry about your pickup battery being dead and making your signal worse.
@@dudarino666 I used to have his Japanese Custom Shop Sawtooth which had the HZ-H4 in it too. I found that pickup really lacklustre even running it through my Engl powerball II at the time. When I got other models with the Active Pre-Amp in them it was a game changer I like the way actives compress, theyre also a lot quieter than most passive circuits. But i've come across some passives that I really dig. I left all the EMG's in my Rhoads, but with my new 7 string I will be putting in a Lundgren M7. I almost always find I gravitate toward passive pickups when it comes to extended range guitars

These are amazing guitars and I have 2 myself, but these were made in abundance. Im pretty sure that youd be referring to the RR24LTD which is the same as this but with creme/white binding and reverse sharkfin inlays... that one goes for alot. Pretty pricey to get a Japanese Jackson new today but the old ones are found at super cheap prices.

Floyd suggestion: create a shim to put under the bridge's fine tuners (felt on both sides) to hold it in neutral as you get the strings up to tension. Makes it much easier.

I’d imagine that the cracks are on or near where the alder wings are glued to the through neck . Lacquers tend to crack where two dissimilar woods joined together
Great review thanks for sharing! As I commented last week, I had a white/black bevel model. I'm kind of a bigger guy (6'-5"/196 cm) and I felt like the guitar looked awkwardly small on me. I knew it was a matter of time before the corners got chipped, which would tank the resale value, so I decided to move it along as soon as possible. Other than that, the guitar played great. My only gripes were a couple of small cosmetic flaws - a file mark on the fretboard and some white overspray in the Floyd Rose recess on the top of the guitar. 8.5/10

I agree 100%. When I think of heavy and thrash metal music I only see one guitar dominating and that's Jackson guitars.
RR designed it while he was flying on the Concorde jet, GJ built it.

As a children of bodom fan, well, late children of bodom, I wasn't a real fan till around 2017, I just wanted to say that the closing demo was very Alexi Laiho like, and honestly want to say thank you for bringing this guitar to light, now I have my sights on another guitar to fulfill my fantasy of owning a guitar that is close to Alexi's, thank you KDH.

Ive heard multiple stories about how and where Laiho's Jackson's were stolen including out of a van in Japan on tour. Alexi had stated in multiple interviews that his Jacksons were stolen from the bands rehearsal space in Helsinki. Not while actively touring.

The official fan site stated that it was a party in Finland, organized by their record label Spinefarm Records, for all its musicians. Plenty of instruments were there, but only Alexi's two Jacksons were stolen.
The other rumor is that he made it up and borrowed Roope's Rhoads while ESP made his two first ESPs so that way ESP would make them faster
They were stolen at spinefeast the annual spine farm records show in Finland.

I’ve owned one since about 2008-2009, rumor had it that Alexi used an EMG 85 at a point (I did that for a while, still go back and forth). I love that you put this out, glad to see somebody else with some appreciation for it beyond the Bodom lore.
Alexi didn't use emgs in his Jacksons. He had some jackson pickups with a built in pre amp. Also, there was a limited run of black and yellows with reverse inlays and binding.
Thank you so much for making this video and giving this history lesson for people. Alexi is pretty much the guy who got me hooked on playing the instrument, and his music has opened my ears to all kinds of heavy music. Really enjoyed this one, keep it going man!
IIRC the ESP signature model included the EMG HZ with the gain boost (his signature pickup), and the original Jackson also had a gain boost paired with a passive pickup (I think that's where he got the idea for his sig pickup). He always had the gain boost on, so I'm sure an active pickup like the 81 was a close approximation for the RR24.
Yep, Alexi used a Jackson JB-50 with a booster wired to it. then he moved to passive EMG HZ with a booster.

I own a few of Alexi's signature model ESP/LTD/Edwards guitars because they are my absolute favorite guitars. I've never fell in love with a Jackson, but I'd still like to own one of these at some point. A similar 2007 one just sold a few weeks ago for $2,100 USD.
Even back then £599 was a steal for that guitar. I almost sold my one years ago, but changed my mind at the last minute and do not regret it. The perspective buyer even understood why I changed my mind.

Growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s, listening to the first three COB records, the best ones, i can confirm that this was considered Alexi's unofficial signature. Everybody wanted one, but the prices were ridiculous back then.
Other thing to note on the original Alexi Rhoads models were that they had non-recessed Floyd Roses and the last four frets were scalloped on the Stone RR. Also I remember the RR24’s being $1000 USD when they were knew and I bought mine locally about two years for $1400. However mine came with the molded Jackson case, gold hardware, and was the limited edition one with the reverse inlays/ivoroid binding.
I bought the white version new in 2008 and still have it (looks as good as the day I bought it). Awesome guitar and still one of my favourites!

Back in ~2008-9 I wanted one of these SO badly, played something similar in a shop and just could not get over how awkward 'V' shaped guitars were for me and was disappointed how I'd have to play it between the lap if I wasn't standing.
Really appreciate this series, it's fascinating having people explain their guitar collections and revisiting bands like Children of Bodom definitely inspires some Sunday listening!
I totally understand how you feel, I have a very similar problem with Explorers. I love the way they look, but I play in classical position when sitting down, and Explorers are extremely uncomfortable to play in that position.
You must play standing up to really appreciate v guitars. So much more balanced and light.
Especially for long shows

I've only ever wanted to play Gibson's, and I have been very fortunate to have owned, and stupid enough to have sold, a number of Gibson's that I really wish I still had, but emigrating was expensive and sacrifices had to be made. The one excursion I made away from Gibson was when I bought a red Jackson Rhoads. While I love Randy, and that Concord he played was epic, I hated the one I had. Way too light, and the neck was so freaking thin! Fortunately I have been able to build up my Gibson's again, and there was much rejoicing. Great video, BTW...love your stuff. a cool trick i learned is that if u put a chapstick tube in the recess of a floyd it helps keep the bridge up for restringing
I own a RR1 in dark metallic blue from about 2008 and it has been the best hot rod guitar I've ever owned and all my guitars are hard rock/metal guitars

Correction:The Original Jackson RR 24 “Wild Child” from the the early 2000’s included the Original Floyd Rose along with a EMG-HZ H-2 Model with a afterburner Boost preamp switch on the guitar.Other than that everything else is on point,love your content!
Alexi's Jacksons had a Jackson branded J-50BC pickup with a JE-100 gain booster.

Re-stringing a Floyd Rose bridge is easy if you change one string at a time, changing the outside strings in - or inner strings out. I’m a bit of a mechanic nut so I like the process & reward of it. Plus I highly recommend installing a Tremsetter. But changing them all at once - I started out doing that & yes it’s a huge headache.

In my experience none of mine have developed any finish cracks or checks. That complaint is likely the result of improper storage (temperature and humidity) + over tightening of hardware / leaving screw holes exposed for long periods of time.

i had one but unfortunately sold it some years ago, wish i hadn't :( what a great instrument it was. straight to the point, no nonsense, one pickup, 24 frets. interestingly, there was this one (the one you're wielding) and the RR24 limited with reverse inlays, a nice binding around the neck and a yellow jackson-logo on the headstock. try finding one these days, you'll easily cross the magical 1,5k mark.
I've wanted one of those forever. Rest in peace Alexi.

I got a rr24 with the red bevels for $650 about 10 years ago and it is my #1 guitar. Mine is in immaculate condition, no cracking in the paint.
Stryper tones. Deep with a high harmonic timbre tone on top. The ultimate metal sound Imo. I would love to have that guitar

I bought a rhoads earlier this year. White with black trim. It's a lower end model. I paid about €350 for it on Thomann. But it has 2 humbuckers and a Floyd. I also got a hard case for it. I haven't played it in a couple of weeks though because I need to get a couple of things done to it and my luthier said he won't be available until the end of July. I posted a video of it when I got it but I didn't play it on video because I haven't had a guitar in 13 years before this one.

I have the same Jackson RR24, but the shark tooth inlays are reversed. I bought it when it first came out, and it has held up well and still looks brand new.
Those reverse shark fins were the first run and quite rare. Neck/head stock binding, too, correct?
They'll end up being the most sought after down the road.

My favourite guitar of all time and like you, I was hugely influenced by early Anthrax and Chris Holmes of WASP. Couldn't beat them back in the day. I could never afford a Jackson back in the day so bought a Charvel Avenger instead, only recently being able to pick up a Jackson RRx10. Not as nice as yours but plays fantastic. Loved this video.
I was fortunate enough to hang out and take lessons every single day for a year (2004) with Dan Spitz. I watched him prepare for the reunion tour in my living room. I asked him every question I could about gear hahaha

Old 90s and 00s Prestige ibanez guitars have been going up in recent years. Not just inflation wise either. The RG1570 I bought back in 2013, for $500 usd is now routinely selling for double that these days. I've seen some of the more desirable colors go for even more.
I remember going to my local Soundcontrol (who have since folded) and they had one in stock although it was the white one with black bevels. It was love at first sight and I wanted it so bad but I couldn't get it as I was still a student and had no income of my own. It tore me apart not being able to get that and then it went out of production. It was Japanese so was next to the USA ones.
I didn't get a Rhoads until eleven years later and that was a Pro Series RRMG. A great guitar and very beautiful that is but I still yearn for a Japanese RR24.
Love this video. Just getting into Alexi now (a bit late unfortunately). The only other difference I see based on some photos you showed is neck binding.

As an avid Jackson fan and specifically the RR model, it’s a personal quest of mine to get one of these guitars. Not specifically the “Wild Child” variant per se, but any of the RR24 single humbucker guitars from Japan. The RR model has been my favorite guitar since I started playing about 15 years ago.

Two reasons behind the cutaway, 1st, Alexi actually does play quite a bit above the 19th fret, 19 thru 24 are scalloped.
2nd, ESP was smart enough not to completely rip off the design of the Jackson RR model.

A Jackson RR is like a Ferrari: it's only good for one thing, but that one thing it's good at, it really excels at. I've owned three, and love the way one with non-active pups in it produce a natural tone that bottom-heavy but tight, a sharp tone, and a smooth and richly-defined mid-range. For reference one had the Seymour-Duncan jazz set, The second had Dimarzio X2Ns in it, and the third had BL500s in it. The BL500 one was the best one.
I've never owned a Jackson but I have a 2007 charvel made in Japan I like it a lot it's got a pearl caster bridge and spiesel lockers on it no lockdowns works great.
Also in the lucky few to own one of these beauties, changed out the hardware for gold in honour of Alexi RIP!
There was a 60 unit series of Jackson's RR-LL in Finland which is very similar but with gold hardware. It was around 1998. LL stands for Laiho/Latvala. It was on sale in my town's music for 6995 finnish mark. Still know now at least 2 owners of them.
Roope didn't join until the end of 2003.

Liked your video, but also a few inconsistencies. I have not heard about finish cracking earlier, and I've been in both the Jackson and COB communities since 2008. Unless you can link me to some others with the same issue, I think it is isolated to your guitar.
I've had 2 from these series, the black and yellow one like you have here which I bought new in 2009. It still looks factory-new, no paint issues, never bumped it into anything, no dings, nothing. Was my only guitar for over 8 years. I also briefly owned a RR24M, which has damage in all kinds of spots from the previous owner. But that one, also, did not have paint cracking issues, at all.
Alexis guitar had neck binding - this you will only find on the limited edition RR24 with reverse sharkfin inlays. Which would have been a nice thing to discuss in your video: there were around 300 of this guitar made with those reverse sharkfins and cream neck binding (the normal one also has neck binding, but it is black so you barely notice it). Besides that, there is a difference in the Floyd Rose tremolo (though admittedly this is only different in where the tremolo was made - it's still the same quality and specification).
Alexi didn't use an EMG 81 pickup in his Jacksons, ever. His Jacksons were outfitted with Jacksons J50BC ceramic humbucker with a Jackson JE1000 Electronic Boost circuit (and mid freq shift). His ESP guitars he had later were outfitted with an EMG HZ-H2, combined with a MM04 booster (which was a clone of the Jackson JE1000 booster from back in the day).
Before anyone asks me if I want to sell mine: I will never. It was my first serious guitar and it was thanks to the help of my parents that I could acquire it - and thus it holds tremendous sentimental value. Besides that, Alexi and Roope were and still are my absolute guitar heroes, so that is another reason to never sell.
Alexis death may have caused another spike in these guitars prices, but the real truth is that the guitars that Jackson has been putting out of Indonesia are a very different type of kit, it just isn't the same quality anymore. If you're lucky, you can still get a great one, but to have that happen is kinda rare. These japanese Jacksons, up until they stopped making them, were amazing guitars for their price. :)
Incredible guitar! I was given one of the Kevin Bond signature models many years ago. Super fun guitar.
Might I suggest getting some other cleaning tools if you're going to keep doing this. Namely, a softish stiff brush to get that dust, skin flakes, etc... out of the crevices that guitars like this one tend to have in the trem & headstock tuners areas. Fender Strats have a lot of the same hiding spots for debris. I dig this series of videos, keep them coming 👍👍

Alexi's ESPs never used active EMGs. He used the passive H2 witch if you look, has poll pieces. the 81 does not. Granted the 81 is for most people the go-to EMG witch might be why most people don't even know that passives are a thing.
He used to use the Hz-H4 with the MM-04 Pre Amp Boost. The modern signature models with the pole pieces use the EMG HZ FH-2.
There was also a brief period in time where he used the Seymour Duncan Blackout
I have his original released Alexi 600, it uses passive HZ4(HZ-H4?) Its a super hot pickup as is. Later he had a active EQ/booster for his passive pickups. Which needs a battery. He ran all that into (for a long time) Lee Jackson Pre amps, then into a marshall. However i think an HZ pickup is a passive variant of the 81. Might be different poles. But all in all its just the windings of the copper that affect most of a pickups performance.
I don't see everyone's obsession with active pickups. I really enjoy to tone of the passives. You can almost always add more gain to a signal down the chain and not worry about your pickup battery being dead and making your signal worse.
@@dudarino666 I used to have his Japanese Custom Shop Sawtooth which had the HZ-H4 in it too. I found that pickup really lacklustre even running it through my Engl powerball II at the time. When I got other models with the Active Pre-Amp in them it was a game changer
I like the way actives compress, theyre also a lot quieter than most passive circuits. But i've come across some passives that I really dig. I left all the EMG's in my Rhoads, but with my new 7 string I will be putting in a Lundgren M7. I almost always find I gravitate toward passive pickups when it comes to extended range guitars
@@dudarino666 The batteries in active pickups, last SO long. It’s not valid saying, “you don’t have to worry about battery dying” literally you only have to change the battery once a year, at MOST!
@@dudarino666 If you prefer passive, fine. But the battery argument is so stupid. If you don’t practice a lot, a battery can even last 3 years.

These are amazing guitars and I have 2 myself, but these were made in abundance. Im pretty sure that youd be referring to the RR24LTD which is the same as this but with creme/white binding and reverse sharkfin inlays... that one goes for alot. Pretty pricey to get a Japanese Jackson new today but the old ones are found at super cheap prices.

Floyd suggestion: create a shim to put under the bridge's fine tuners (felt on both sides) to hold it in neutral as you get the strings up to tension. Makes it much easier.
Shimming the trem block from the rear is even easier.
I'm not a guitarist,but I've loved this one ever since I saw a Kirk Hammett playing one, or something like it, on "For Whom The Bell Tolls" from Cliff 'Em All.

I’d imagine that the cracks are on or near where the alder wings are glued to the through neck . Lacquers tend to crack where two dissimilar woods joined together

As I commented last week, I had a white/black bevel model. I'm kind of a bigger guy (6'-5"/196 cm) and I felt like the guitar looked awkwardly small on me. I knew it was a matter of time before the corners got chipped, which would tank the resale value, so I decided to move it along as soon as possible. Other than that, the guitar played great. My only gripes were a couple of small cosmetic flaws - a file mark on the fretboard and some white overspray in the Floyd Rose recess on the top of the guitar. 8.5/10
You should review the guitars from a brand called Minarik. They have some pretty insane & interesting designs along with nice pick-ups.
