Constrictors don’t actually suffocate their prey. For the longest time it was believed that every time the prey exhaled air from their lungs, the snake would constrict more and more until the prey’s lungs could no longer fill with air. But then studies were done regarding the blood pressure of the prey during constriction and now it’s believed that the constriction simply stops blood flow. The pressure around the prey is so high that the heart simply can’t pump blood out to the body. No blood flow equals brain death and subsequently the heart just gives out.
@@reptiliangarden Meh. Its a variety of things. Even if the heart could still pump blood around the body but the lungs arent functioning (which they do not when constriction takes place) it means that there is no gaseous exchange which leads to hypercapnia which subsequently leads to death. Im not saying sticky feet is wrong, im saying there are a variety of factors at play.

One of the most comical things to me is when pet tubers are talking to the camera while a snake slowly inches towards their face staring them down (i.e 0:49) . I don't know why its so funny but it is.
Most of this is correct, and I appreciate you spending the time to learn and spread information. A few things I would mention are that you should really be careful using spurs as a way of sexing, as while they're usually found on only males they have been known to be found on females (especially in pythons) as well, and some proven males don't have them at all! Also, just because many boas and pythons don't have visible heat pits doesn't mean that they don't have the internal workings for them, although obviously they wouldn't be as sophisticated as those found in species with the open pits. Great video! As adorable and beautiful as I find many pythons, boas have always stolen away my heart. Not only are they incredible and awe-inspiring animals physically, their personalities are so very quirky and unique. I've adored every boa I've had the pleasure of working with or handling.
Misty Moonstorm Thank you so much for sharing this! I wasn’t aware that sometimes the females have spurs! That is crazy! I’ve never seen any spurs before on either one! So it’s definitely not the best way to sex. 😅 And I wasn’t aware that without heat pits that still have that ability to sense heat from within! That is so interesting!
@@reptiliangarden I've always tended to think of boas as a family somewhere in between pythons and colubrids in terms of senses. Ball pythons and many others, for example, have the iconic heat pits and tend to rely on that more than anything else, and consequently their eyesight isn't all that impressive. Colubrids, on the opposite end of the scale, don't have any heat sensing organs at all and rely solely on eyesight, and as someone who grew up handling garters I can attest that they have incredibly sharp vision and are very aware of their surroundings. Boas are sort of in the middle, their heat sensing abilities are there but not as evolved as in the pythons, and so their eyesight might not be the best but it's most certainly good enough to be used in hunting (from observation, my Hog Island boa seems very nearsighted. Farther presences are less recognizable to him than closer ones but he can definitely still see something at range, he just tends to react more defensively when they're not close enough to identify). As for the spurs, yes I thought it was crazy myself. I've seen pictures on snake forums of proven female ball pythons with very visible spurs, which really threw me when my earlier research suggested that only males had them! I enjoyed this video and how informative it was, and many of your facts are correct, but just a few things I noticed that I wanted to mention. Mainly that carpet pythons, depending on their locality typically get larger than 5-6 feet. I felt this one is important to mention as this is an informational video and people may use it as research so they can know how big of a snake they are going to be getting. Depending on local, carpets can range from about 6-10 feet, average is around 6-8 :) Also just one small other thing, although the majority of boas are smooth scaled, there are some rough/keeled scaled species as well. Namely the solomon island ground boas and other candoia species, and a few others. Overall great video though, just a few things that got my attention :)

The main difference between boas and pythons is in the cranial structure: the bone structure of the head is different. You are incorrect about the scalation: morelia carinata has keeled scales. And, as someone else has already said, constriction stops bloodflow, it doesn’t kill solely by stopping respiration. And there are number of subspecies of carpet pythons: the only one which has a marked yellow/black pattern is the jungle carpet: morelia spilota cheynei.
Thanks on the education on the claw spurs on the male to hold the female in place ... better way to tell if your snake is male without probing' and yes u are always lovely looking cutie. : )) .. keep doing ya thing ..... animal love '
Great video. However, reticulated pythons are larger (or at least are far longer) than green Anacondas. Anacondas are only heavier because they are much thicker snakes. An anaconda can outweigh a retic that is twice it’s length. Retics very normally grow past 20 feet, whereas I’ve never seen an anaconda do the same. Also, all of the records for “potential longest snake” are held by retics.
I like the patterns that pythons have, especially Burmese and Ball pythons… but boas are just so much prettier. They can also have patterns but even their scales have iridescent scales. My favorite is the Rainbow Boa.
I’m just getting my first boa in a couple days and I would love to understand his behavior more to avoid getting tagged. I have to ball pythons already so I just hope he’s as calm as them but I’ve also heard boas are extremely easy to tame down
Actually Boas and Pythons or any snake Cannot be sexed based on Pelvic spurs. Both Males and Females have them. They are used to position each for mating.
You didn't mention the primary difference between boas and pythons. The bone structure of their skulls is different. Also, the latest research shows that when they constrict prey, the prey item in fact dies because its heart stops. Not all emerald tree boas have a white stripe. Their colouration depends on locality. Some boas have far better vision that pythons. My boa constrictor amarali never tongue flicks when presented with food: she targets her prey by sight. Most pythons have relatively poor eyesight. The various carpet python subspecies come in a wide cariety of colours: the yellow and black ones are usually jungle carpets (m.s. cheynei). The reticulated python (dwarf varieties apart) is the largest of the pythons. Red tail boa constrictors (b.c. constrictor) are the largest boa constrictors. Females can reach more than ten feet, males more commonly eight feet.
john schlesinger Thanks so much for sharing all of this info. I just learned after making this that they kill rodents by a lack of blood flow! When I mentioned the white stripes, I just meant generally it can be a way to tell them apart from GTPs. There are always exceptions. That’s interesting about your boa! My Rainbow Boa usually just uses eye sight to hunt, while my boa constrictor is always tongue flicking. As for the carpet pythons, I was just speaking generally. There are many more colors. I most commonly see the yellow and black which is why I mentioned them. As for the sizes, it seems some of the sizes I looked up were incorrect. 😅 So Thank you so much for adding them! 💕
I'm not sure where you got your information from but yes the green anaconda is the heaviest body but they generally would never ever get 20 feet long although the longest snake in the world the reticulated python has had many 2526 book. Actually back when Thomas Jefferson was president who passed $100,000 reward for any reticulated python or snake captured over 30 feet long and that reward has still not been collected today. So 30 feet snaked are pretty much a myth
Boas and Pythons are so rewarding when you gained their trust. Both are equally so majestic and spiritually giving creatures. Unfortunately it's a popular misconception that many people see snakes regarded as evil, gross, slimy, strange ect... In reality these peaceful timid creatures are curious as a young child and symbolize wealth, fertility and knowledge as well as rebirth.

Yea, female green anacondas are usually max out like 15-18 ft, and retics are longer.

Also, all of the records for “potential longest snake” are held by retics.
wonderful project ,,,, well explained queen ,,, (( yes u are fine .. and the same for Vendetta ) : ))
Thxs for the info! Which book 📚 is that with info? Cheers New subscriber 🤘🏿
Ohh 😯 what book is that
yay first!
lol great video as always!
RogerReptile Thank you so much!!! 💕💕💕
I just got my dream sanke sunglow hypo and got het albino bia bci my BCI boas their parents were Sunglow jungle X Motley
summing up the pytons put eggs and boas don't put eggs
What book do you use in this video to get your information from? I kinda want it haha
I like the patterns that pythons have, especially Burmese and Ball pythons… but boas are just so much prettier. They can also have patterns but even their scales have iridescent scales. My favorite is the Rainbow Boa.
So awesome and informative!! Vendetta looks smashing!!🐍❤️
Thomas Van Ostrand Thank you!!! 💕💕💕
Very great video ,,,,, A +++++++ ,,, i truly loved this video ,,,,, " And of course u look good " ,,,
I was hoping you would talk about the personality differences
Carlytheawesome Each different type of python and boa behaves completely differently. 😅 I’ll have to go more in depth over time with each species! 💕
I’m just getting my first boa in a couple days and I would love to understand his behavior more to avoid getting tagged. I have to ball pythons already so I just hope he’s as calm as them but I’ve also heard boas are extremely easy to tame down
Reticulated pythons are actually the longest snakes in the world, and anacondas are the heaviest.
please do a brazilian rainbow boa care video :))
You have to visit Guyana 🇬🇾 to see more boa an pythons
Actually Boas and Pythons or any snake Cannot be sexed based on Pelvic spurs. Both Males and Females have them. They are used to position each for mating.
Woah I didn’t know anacondas were boas thought they were in a league of their own
What your next snake once everyone get their upgrade, boa for life lol👍👍
xotic marvel reptiles I honestly have no idea. 😅 I’m out of room until I move somewhere else. Lol
@@reptiliangarden I feel your pain same here lol I would love another snake but idk yet
Beautiful Boa
Love the boa🙃
I have a boa and gargoyle gecko
Actually with black head pythons the common subspecies will get up to 10ft
But great video
King Arthur Thank you! Some of the sizes I looked up seem to be off 😅
You are very beautiful and very educational, thank you for your beautiful presents and passion for nature, stay positive beautiful 😏😘
I just got a children's python today!
Anacondas aren’t the largest snake on the planet, just usually heavier bodied. Retics, on average, are larger/longer. Liked the video otherwise.
But I love your videos keep them going
I've been told both males and females can both have these 'spurs' so you cannot tell sex by these spurs alone.
Noo when bao and pythons bite you just use listening and they will let you go just make sue you give them water
SalmonBoa420 I know right! People need a better view on snakes. I want a snake in the future but now I just have other reptiles. 😊
Am I the only one that's nervous, the way the snake keeps getting closer to her face...
I kept thinking it was gonna strike her.
Reticulated python is the longest snake in the world
Miss. You are absolutely beautiful.
so well spoken, phenomenally intelligent.
You love snakes too?
Oh my oh my.
