Tip for the boat: The controls don't change at all. If you press up, the boat will go up - not forward. Left and right don't swerve, they make the boat go left and right.
I’ve seen a lot of people struggling with that one cause it’s what they might expect. Would’ve been interesting if they threw in a switch controls option like they did for the glider mouth to invert the y axis
@@ClubbingSealCub as in what the up do changed, like what Monger thinks. It took me 2-3 tries to understand how it actually works. Not saying the devs changed it.
It's funny how despite Forgotten Land's title, this game managed to deliver a genuinely unforgettable gaming experience; I seriously hope this game gets some sort of award, Forgotten Land definitely deserves to become ForGOTYen Land I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and praise more of this game's music; "Decisive Battle: Ultimate Z", the battle theme in The Ultimate Cup Z does such a wonderful job at making bosses feel intense, and I think it's one of the best songs in the franchise "Faded Dream of a Psychomeddler" was briefly mentioned in the video, but I think this song is phenomenal at setting the mood for Isolated Isles, ESPECIALLY with its piano By the way, happy 30th Anniversary to the Kirby Franchise!!
Agreed, the soundtrack goes hard! One of my personal favorites that I never hear anybody talking about is "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge". Keyboard solos go absolutely crazy
@@leithaziz2716 yes i just said i disagree and think its mid obviously i worded it differently but i didnt literally mean i dont understand the concept of someone liking it when i dont
51:05 Another thing about the Morpho Sword is that it has more attacks that are kinda hidden because no other hability has something similar. While you are blocking, holding the attack button on the ground will spawn two Fecto ilusions that orbit arround Kirby and home in on enemies. Doing the same in the air results in the shockwave attack that flips your screen.
Also while people like to hate on fleur tornado, it has a secret move that none of the other tornado evolutions have or any other ability in general, you can spin with the joystick and kirby will go into a state where you can move around while spinning and can walk through lava and poison freely Edit: nvm ive been lied to, it does nothing but make you move around while spinning with a shiny effect, thats literally it from what ive tried
@@leedlelel2373 that's why I love this game so much, this game has no many secrets that you could go the entire game and not pick up, so there's always something to discover
@@leedlelel2373 Though it techncially also does a very small hit around you when you end it. Still basically useless, but it's still something. :P Also for some reason people never talk about needle having 3 different moves, rather than the two most associate with (attack, moving attack, and jumping while holding attack. The jump actually does a multi-hit spin which makes it functionally different, even if it's still mostly useless compared to just spamming attack button). And ice also has a quirk where exiting from guard also does a small hit. And is actually relevant since ice is now being incorporated into speedruns because that extra hit makes guard->attack spam freeze bosses very fast.
25:54 when I entered that room and saw all the sleep abilities on the collapsing bridge it put a big dumb smile on my face and I will never forget that
Can we talk about how while they knew 3D would sell more (The First Trailer and the one for Mouthful Mode got more views than Bayonetta 3’s and Xenoblade 3’s trailers respectively) they didn’t just stop there? They could’ve just yelled “3D Kirby. That’s the gimmick” and called it a day. Yet they did pretty much everything in their power to make this game feel grand. The whole setting of the game is an abandon civilization. They fully followed into that, because The Level design feels natural rather than there being magic floating platforms for challenge. These feel like real places people could inhabit rather than obstacle courses specifically designed for the player. And the level designs are actually quite unique. Like Originull Wasteland being a dried up ocean, complete with Beach resorts and windmills, while the actual Beach world: Everbay Coast is a Power Plant/Hotel that got flooded. All of the characters in this game are so expressive. The neat touch of Waddle Dees waving back to the player if you waved to them was a neat touch but the Beast Pack really shines in terms of detail just due to how accurate most of them are to their real life counterparts. The music is some of the best the series has had so far. Almost all of the level themes are amazing to listen to and perfectly fit the mood. Dedede’s theme gets the most praise, but in my opinion, the first two themes in World One, that appear constantly throughout the soundtrack deserve just as much. Welcome to the New World pretty much puts Jump Up, Superstar to shame. They also knew they couldn’t fit in as many abilities in as previous games, so not only did we get mouthful mode, but Upgrading Abilities is so much fun. The Challenge Roads also d a great job at testing your skills If this kind of passion is included in future 3D games, Kirby is going to have a very bright future. Happy 30th Anniversary
I was very surprised how well they nailed their first 3D Kirby, it just feels complete and well thought out through and through. I can't imagine how you could have a better transition into 3D
Idk, feel like you're overselling it a bit. The level designs were pretty basic for the most part and the combat isn't that deep even with the upgrades. This honestly just feels like a 2D Kirby but in 3D.
The soundtrack is definitely what really sold this game for me. I wasnt expecting much when I entered a level just called "Northeast Frost Street", but oh man when the full orchestra came in half way through the song, I genuinely had to stop and listen through the whole thing before I contiued through the level. I also love Pitch-Black Horror for some reason, it just kinda goes hard out of nowhere lol.
One thing I noticed is that the transition between 2D and 3D as a player is actually really easy, even going back to the 2D games isn’t hard. It also made me much better at the shooter part of Void Termina, which is neat.
one thing that makes it easier, I feel, was the lack of camera controls. Generally, you have to worry about so, but not HAL. Its is still a 3d games, but thanks to giving up camera control to the devs, we get really really chaotic fights, where the camera shifts crazyly, but not enough to make you dizzy.
@@Ricardoricardor Also technically it ISN'T the first true 3D kirby game; both Blowout Blast and Battle Royale uses full 3D movement. First mainline one though.
100% this game was so much fun, it's no wonder it's the only series I'm willing to 100% because it's fun and not boring. Looking at you Mario Odyssey with 999 moon count 😶
Personally I’d say this only for the fact that While the Robobot armor was fun, and the final boss was great, it was pretty much Triple DX with some new powers. That and the rest of the bosses were kind of Lazy. Not a bad game by any means, I agree it’s peak “modern” Kirby too. but could’ve been better
I’m totally with you on not figuring out to climb the debris to dodge Chaos Elfilis’s fire charge attack. My brain just could not put that together haha. Also I wonder if this game might get DLC?? I honestly really doubt it, but I’d be hyped to get more content since I’ve already 100%’d it!
When I first got to that section, I was using royal blizzard or whatever the tier 3 ice ability was called. Until that phase, I was abusing the hell out of the perfect and spiky guard. Learning that I could actually freeze and stun chaos elfilis was a god send. But I made that fight a war of attrition, block everything and attack when I got an opening. Then the giant fireball and rubble section came. Debris rained down on my ice shield, not hurting one bit. Then the giant fireball swooped in and ended me. I guess I should have remembered a similar thing when I was going for damageless forgo dedede when one of his big fiery attacks also broke the perfect ice guard. No so perfect after all.
When I saw it I thought it was showing which side Chaos elfilis was gonna be on, as to dodge to the other side. I noticed it was a staircase by somewhere around my tenth try.
If it gets free updates everyone will hate and complain about the game for not having it at launch like the whiney babies they are Seriously, this kind of cycle is stressful *game comes out* "Oh what a good game i hope it gets free updates" *gets free updates* "WTFFF WHY WASNT THIS AT LAUNCH I PAID 60 FOR THIS WHY AM I GETTING IT LATER BRUHBRUH WORST GAME EVER NINTENDO SUCKS 0/10"
I think a game that has relatively little content and play time compared to a game like Elden Ring has to be _perfect_ in basically all aspects, just because there's not as much there. And I don't think KatFL is perfect in its platforming. It's hard to see what's going on with a lot of enemies, and it can be frustrating during the times you can't gauge height, especially on the Treasure levels. But give HAL a game or two, because they just might get there.
@@NZsaltz Possibly. Did you watch his stream of the Treasure Road for Dragon Fire? It seemed like he had issues with gauging the height as well. So it could just be a me _and_ him thing?
Forgotten land has made Needle my favorite ability with the Crystal Needle upgrade. With my play style and skill level, it shreds bosses and the ability is already premade to annihilate basic enemies.
You were the reason I ever gained an interest in the Kirby games and lore back when you made your Kirby lore video. I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to get into the games and I'm so glad that forgotten land came along
I freaking love this game and its music, I loved seeing your comments on the game’s music track videos on here and seeing how much you enjoyed them. I really hoped you would do a review, and here it is! Yay!
So here’s some extra Facts about Morpho Knight Sword abilities. In the Air: use block and hold the Action button create a Shock wave attack with his wings. For the ground: same thing with the air version created the Creepy wisps attack
They transition the game from 2d to 3d really well. I hope they made a 3d kirby game with amazing mirror's exploration in the future. Also Kirby still fighting an eldritch cosmic horror while uncovering unsettling lore as usual :)
Did you know that there is another boss rush after the one on the bridge level? If you go on the left and start clim up the bricks on the wall it leads you to a warp star that brings you on the top of the bridge to fight an harder boss rush
Thank you so much for naming the composers!!! it isn't done nearly enough, and they deserve so much more credit. It's a truly beautiful game, but i have to say the choice to remove controls from the pause screen wasn't my favorite. i'm almost done with the post game, and i didn't even know there was a proper dodge button..i don't know how i made it up to this point
My headcanon: kirby and the amazing mirror can open up a new era of potential 3d kirby. Interacting with friends in a large maze (doesn’t even need to be odyssey-sized) is amazing enough to make me hope to god it’s achievable .
I cannot wait to see what they do next, FL feels like just the beginning for the new era. I feel like the new few games will play out similarly to the 3DS "trilogy". FL will set the groundwork, TDX will improve on that new but basic formula, and PR will perfect it. I think something like this'll happen. HAL is known for topping themselves over and over again, so its safe to say i'm really excited.
The next mainline game would probably released around 2025 maybe as they need time to develop and with 'brand' new tracks for that new game similar to what they have done for this game
I'm at World 3 and my goodness I am in love! The new abilities are rather nice, plus the old abilities have been getting nice changes and upgrades are straight up epic!
I already had high expectations for this game leading up to release, and it still blew me away. As much as I love Planet Robobot, and as much as I enjoyed Star Allies, this is probably the most fun I’ve had with a Kirby game since Triple Deluxe, and the most fun I’ve had with a video game in years. The level design was great, the music was phenomenal, the visuals were fantastic, and the bosses, especially in the post-game, were insane! I’m not sure if Forgotten Land is my absolute favorite Kirby game, but it’s definitely in my top three. Also, loved the detail of Dedede jumping up and smacking his tambourine when playing his new theme. Which, by the way, nearly made my jaw drop upon first hearing it. Seriously, it’s SO GOOD!
dude your definitely not alone in the fire charge chaos elfilis move, I legit thought it was a move taking your health intentionally so you were forced to beat him before he gets to do it again, and since I wanted to do it in one turn, you have no idea how many times I had to do the whole run again just to eventually learn that I just had to climb the stairs
As a longtime diehard fan of this series, this game is REALLY fighting for that "#1 favorite" spot in my heart. I love Forgotten Land to bits and pieces. Also thank you for making me realize I've been pronouncing Shimooka's name wrong this whole time...
awesome video, and yeah i completely relate to those hidden donuts and that one Staircase bonus stage, was a nightmare getting the target time for a bit XD
3:43 Huh? That's a strange take... Its intense power and evasiveness makes it easily the best ability (not including tier 4s) for taking on bosses, metaphorical hands down. The only "environmental" thing about it is that some surfaces can't be dug into, which is rare enough that it's not a very big deal. bad takes on the low placement of the drill evos, too I didn't notice that I needed to climb the debris, either. I thought it was like, a wall to hide behind. Rankings of Secondary abilities: 10. Cluster Needle. Cool reference, gameplay's fine but we have a high standard here and it just doesn't do a lot. 9. Chain Bomb. It's cool to set the bombs up but really makes the lack of bomb drop a glaring issue. Guard and attack to bomb drop would've been nice. 8. Fleur Tornado. Very similar to the original Tornado gameplay-wise but it's stylish at least. 7. Frosty Ice. Cool in concept (I hate that I didn't notice the accidental pun immediately), but it feels like I didn't get a lot of time with it before swapping to Blizzard Ice. Cute tho 6. Volcano Fire. Very samey, but good. 5. Chakram Cutter. It's like Cutter, but 2. I prefer it to the third evolution and the weird controls are interesting. 4. Pencil Drill. The projectile is cool, but this is mostly carried by Drill itself being good and also Pencil Drill just being very cute, especially since you're literally encouraged to draw circles. If only you could dot the eyes... Well, at least it certainly adds a big ol' smile to me! 3. Noble Ranger. It's like Chakram Cutter, but with Ranger. Also that fully charged attack is funny. 2. Gigant Sword. I love how unique it is and how it ties into the Morpho Knight sword. Plus big and strong. 1. Toy Hammer. Cute, powerful, fast, mobile, good stuff. Rankings of Tertiary abilities: 10. Homing Bomb. It feels like the homing actively goes against the idea of setting up chains for enemies to run into, and it's hard to get all the explosions to hit when the bombs will move out of sync, leading to just one explosion actually hitting the enemy. Bomb Drop would've been nice as a way of having them NOT home so that you can have the best of both worlds. Kinda cute at least. 9. Buzz-Saw Cutter. Has a bit of Megalomania going on but it feels a bit unwieldly with the way the riccochet works. Good for REALLY enclosed spaces but too situational. Fairly satisfying but less interesting than Evo 2. 8. Crystal Needle. The caltrop trail seems lacking, and that feels like the biggest thing about it, other than a simple upgrade to an ability that sorta feels outclassed anyway. 7. Dragon Fire. The dash attack is cool in concept but feels slower than it really should, at least not without having HUGE power. Something about turning with the fire breath feels slower, too. Big and Slow but without the Big. Very strong tho. 6. Blizzard Ice. Nothing particularly wrong with it, just lacking in personality. Pretty crown tho. 5. Stone Hammer. I like big numbers and extremity. 4. Meta Knight Sword. It's very cool and stuff. 3. Space Ranger. Adorable and cool. 2. Storm Tornado. Running through The Beast Pack's Final Stand as a tornado of destruction striking down all within proximity while having wonderful speed to boot was extremely satisfying. So much greatness in an end-game ability. 1. Twin Drill. It's a Teto reference, it's an extremely powerful version of the normal drill, it's fast, it has that enhanced stand-still aerial attack so that you can finally dot the eyes, it makes you extremely hard to hit, it's easily the best ability in the game barring maybe some Fourth evos, and even then I personally prefer Twin Drill and it's pretty close.
My first Kirby game, and now I think I’m hooked on the series. I’ve investigated the lore before, and it was cool, but I didn’t think I’d get into the games. Boy was I wrong. 53:56 you are not alone. I beat the arena on spring breeze mode, and I never figured out that attack until I watched a video that showed it. 54:52 so that’s where the side route is, damn. Also, I got my own lore theory, so spoilers for the Forgotten Land: So we learn that the prior residents of this forgotten land were technologically advanced due to catching Fecto Elfilis, then they left for “a land of dreams.” I heard one theory that they were the ancients, which makes some sense, since in prior games, we learn the Ancients are responsible for a lot of the relics that are seen in Dreamland. However, there’s: one thing that doesn’t sit right with me. The ancients were split into two branches, one specializing in science and the other magic. There’s no mention of magic in this game (as I remember). However, we have never actually seen a scientific ancient. So my theory is that the ancients as a catch all term pulls a classic history move, and lumps two entirely distinct groups together as one. The scientific ancients were a completely different group than the magic ancients, and they might’ve just had an alliance. A bolder theory, the scientific ancients were humans. One obvious guess from this games design is that this is s version of Shiver star, either from a different time or after the ice age ends (we don’t know how long Kirby characters live, so thousands of years could be happening between games, so the ice age could’ve ended). A lot of the locations in Forgotten land are very familiar (especially the ice realm). It’s a bit far fetched, but humans being the scientific ancients and being long since mostly extinct is a very fun idea, and would mean we aren’t just dealing with a post apocalyptic earth, but an incredibly old earth, and these games are far in our future, when we’ve gained the technology to become gods, but are brought down by some unknown means.
I only started Kirby recently, and the first game I played was Kirby's Dreamland 3, but the way I see it, is that Fecto Elfilis is to Forgotten land is what Dedede is to Dreamland 3. Morpho knight is this game's Zero.
I sort of saw Fecto Elfilis to be more like Dark Matter with the whole taking over worlds and posessing things idea, with Chaos Elfilis (more specifically phases 3 and 4) being more like Zero, with a plot to conquer the universe with beings of its own creation while hiding in a realm it made, attacking with what was part of itself, and the red-and-white coloring to top it all off.
I'm a huge Kirby Super Star SNES fan. I love its introduction of movesets and remember the scene around that game that was the Kirby fandom before the Kirby fandom now. Just lots of praise for its abilities. I absolutely agree with you on your great analysis of the powers. More moves were swapped for more utility and honestly it was a brilliant design compromise for 3D by the folks at HAL.
When the final boss went to its soul form and the And here we are started playing that sent chills down my spine something that only marx souls death did
The 2 best parts are that the text works and that the each deedly dees will stop playing if their instrument isn't on, and how the speed changes mid song. True dedication.
20:15 ... Very recently. But that was Revenge of Dreamland, a very hard romhack. I went to the last area, Another Dimension, with 17 lives only. And I had a game over against Magolor's last phase.
Being my first Kirby game since Amazing Mirror that i played, I really picked the right one. I feel I need to get a copy of planet robobot as well. Forgotten Land has been really good so far.
"can't wait until the next kirby game is set in an active warzone" ok but hear me out- 2 Interplanetary forces with some obscure rivalry clash, Pop Star becomes their battleground, kirby and co trying to break it up and keep their land in tact. Could involve fun double fights with bosses, fighting enemies from both sides at once, return the arena similar to Forgotten Land's, and drop a Meta Knight+Dedede tag team fight to fit the rest of the games bosses as a side-boss to test Kirby's skill to stop the ongoing war.
I adore your Kirby videos and your critical and almost retrospective-like way of talking. I would love watching a video of your opinion on the Donkey Kong Country games and Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair
I was so excited for this game! I finished it in 6 days with 100% and every record on tbe rare stones trials... I was thinking "hope the rpg monger uploads a video soon" and here we are!! Now I'm doing a second gameplay using only the "base abilities" it is going pretty well, I'm on the post game now! Greetings from Chile!!!
51:50 This retry system was very much needed. The flaw of the True Arena type modes was especially apparent to me in Star Allies as your made to fight bosses you haven't seen before and you only have one chance per try to learn their moveset before being sent 10/15/20 mins back to the start of the mode. I appreciate this retry system very much. And for those with pride who don't wanna use it, the choice is all up to you, so everyone wins
I love that the "most replayed" section according to the YT feature is when you talk about Moonlight Canyon, good to see everyone agrees it was the highlight of the entire game
My rankings (with explanations, of course) Base abilities: 12: Crash. Never used the base form, I don’t like the vulnerability if you don’t one shot the enemy. 11: Needle. It looks too naked, and I guess I haven’t recovered from its uselessness in other games. 10: Sleep. I mean, it does heal, but so does food. 9: Ice. Very underwhelming, takes too long to deal damage, and I didn’t discover it could glide over lava and mud until I upgraded it. 8: Bomb. The hat looks so awkward, and it’s a little lacking for damage. 7: Tornado. Does little damage and is kinda hard to control. 6: Cutter. Vastly improved over other games, but mostly here because I like the other ones more. 5: Sword. Classic, but it gets so much better. It’s kinda basic right now, so I usually opted for other abilities. 4: Drill. Once I learned about the circle thing, I was abusing undergroundness for bosses like nobody’s business. 3: Fire. I wish it had an aerial attack, but it’s just fun. 2: Ranger. Gun is funni, but it’s not quite as satisfying to use as its evolutions. 1: Hammer. whack. What can I say 2nd tier: 12: Pencil Drill. It feels so weak! Have you ever tried to stab something with a pencil? 11: Toy Hammer. It’s supposed to be powerful, and it just doesn’t feel like it. 10: Frosty Ice. Yeah, it’s cute, but it’s just disappointing. Those Frosty snowmen just clutter up the screen. 9: Volcano Fire. It’s just mid. I never used it when I could avoid it. 8: Gigant Sword. Slow, can’t roll, just not my thing. 7: Fleur Tornado. Felt weak, and still hard to control. Looks good, though. 6: Clutter Needle. Honestly, I’m surprised how high up this is. I didn’t use it much, but it was inoffensive when I did. 5: Chakram Cutter. Wonderful chaos, and it’ll only go up from here. 4: Chain Bomb. DAMAGE. So much better than regular bomb. 3: Noble Ranger. Guns got good and me like. Was my go to before I had tier 3. 2: Deep Sleep. he. has. a. bed. It’s adorable. Also, he doesn’t immediately fall asleep, heals to full, and gets buffs. Nice! 1: Time Crash. Definitely the most satisfying one to use, and he’s wearing a top hat. I love steampunk top hats. This is catering to me. Tier 3 (and 4) 12: Wild Hammer. Slow, and didn’t do enough damage to make up for it. 11: Homing Bomb. Great for staying far away and focusing on dodging, but makes boss fights long and tedious. Also, the moving bombs make the chain break so easily. 10: Crystal Needle. Definitely the best Needle, but I didn’t use it too much because there were just better abilities. 9: Meta Knight Sword. I KNOW, I know. It’s down here because the fact that it has crescent beams when at full heart makes me place an unreasonable emphasis on staying at full health, and I’m just sad when I can’t camp with it. 8: Space Ranger. Great ability, but the aiming is slow. Mostly just here because I like all the other stuff. 7: Storm Tornado. Felt powerful, and by this point in the game I’d learned to control it. Great ability. 6: Buzz Saw Cutter. Definitely felt powerful. The screen pause when it ricochets is amazing. I just didn’t use it much. 5: Dragon Fire. First tier 3, so it has a special place in my heart. I love burning enemies alive and then it still doing damage after you have to stop actively breathing fire on them. And the flying? Amazing. 4: Twin Drill. Used it for so many bosses. It felt powerful, and the only real downside is there are places in the game where it’s practically useless because of metal. 3: Dedede Hammer. It’s DUAL WIELDING HAMMERS. There is nothing cooler than that, full stop. Definitely felt the most powerful of any ability, and does actually disgusting damage. What did I expect from a tier 4 though? It’s so much better than Wild Hammer, and the fire tornados are a great touch. 2: Blizzard Ice. You might be surprised to see this so high up on the list. The reason it’s here is because it’s what I used to beat Morpho Knight. I was holding R like nobody’s business. I understand why other people don’t like it, but I am a huge fan of being a fricking tank and just *existing* during a huge, powerful attack, and then being right close by to get in a freeze. Felt great, loved the block so much that I didn’t even notice it couldn’t dodge roll until after I’d 100%ed the game. 1: Morpho Knight Sword. What else could be here? It’s the perfect ability. Crescent beams at full health? Check. Two completely unique attacks with inputs exclusive to this ability? Check (that Fecto Forgo ghost attack is great for camping, btw). Perfect mixture of regular Sword and Gigant Sword? Check. Unreasonable damage output? Check. Fricking teleportation? Check. LIFESTEAL? WHY NOT? This ability is absurd and overpowered and I love it. And somehow I still managed to lose to Chaos Elfilis twice. It even looks great (Morpho Knight has the best design of any of the Knights (Meta, Dark Meta, Galacta, etc.), I’ll fight you). And to top it all off, I didn’t play Star Allies, so I’m not traumatized from Morpho Knight’s first appearance-I have the benefit of only hearing his FL theme, which is a fricking banger. Great fight, great ability, great game, and I’m done. Edit: I lied. The place I learned mixing was in this game was The Beast Pack’s Final Stand. I inhaled a tornado guy and a needle hedgehog (don’t know their names, ik, I’m ashamed) and got…Time Crash. Amazing.
actually the wastes where life began is referring to the fact that the Beast Pack originated on this continent, which is why primal awoofies are found here
You actually got me excited to love the Kirby games, before this I only played Kirby’s dream collection on the Wii when I was a kid and I didn’t like the Kirby games because I didn’t understand the story. (I was a dumb kid)
Best detail I found when replaying the final fight with some friends. Bandana Waddle Dee rides on top of the truck and can throw spears in that last scene. Its hilarious.
39:20 Ganon in Ocarina of Time, anyone? Not only had D3 taken a more porky appearance, but he starts the fight dual-wielding hammers. Wouldn't be the first time Kiby's takne inspo from Link
Honestly, Meta Knight Sword is my favorite ability in the game. Yes, even above the Tier 4 abilities, including Meta Knight Sword's own upgrade. Morpho Knight Sword is just... not fun for me. The teleport dodge removes the fun from dodging by making it comedically easy, the lifesteal makes it so you don't have to worry about taking minor hits because you can just heal them off, and the massive charge attack negates the difficulty of dealing damage. Put it all together, and you get an ability that plays like "dodge everything effortlessly and wait for the boss to get stunned so you can hit them with your Large Angry Bonk Sword and instantly win". It feels like Archer all over again. I just don't enjoy it. Meanwhile, Meta Knight Sword has Final Caliber, a powerful multi-hitting attack that can utterly shred bosses. The hitstun of the attack lets you get the whole thing out if you connect it, and being able to drift while doing it lets you leave the attack in interesting ways. However, do it at the wrong time, and you'll just get bonked as soon as you finish the attack. It creates an interesting feedback loop. Wait for an attack, perfect-dodge it and move in, Final Caliber, and retreat. Dodge, then counter. It's thrillingly fun. Plus, Final Caliber's damage-to-speed ratio is ridiculous. A damage-buffed, fully-upgraded Meta Knight Sword can kill Phantom Sillydillo before he gets a single attack out, which feels awesome to pull off. It's precise, and it's difficult, but if you can use it to its fullest potential, it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Meta Knight Sword supremacy!
@@christiandauz3742 I cannot be more direct about the fact that I have never played Dark Souls or anything else remotely in that genre (unless you count Kirby). Though maybe I'd enjoy it if I did.
Really enjoyed the review. Though I'm surprised you found this arena to be easier without abilities than planet robobot since in that most bosses are easily doable without taking damage since they follow basically the same pattern every attempt. Even the final boss is basically free until the heart phase if you memorize exactly where to go at what time. Though I did set limitations (such as not sucking up the orbs around chaos elfilis) to myself in both arenas which definitely mattered more in ultimate cup z, so that might've also made it harder for me, but also most of the bosses seemed to be less predictable and have far more changing patterns in ultimate cup z. Though if you want a challenge try to do the ultimate cup z with level 1 sword without power boost/ buying items/ paying to retry. That was at least for me the hardest challenge I've done in any nintendo game.
@@sinteleon I didn't notice this comment earlier so this is kind of a late reply, but I don't entirely agree. While dodging is pretty OP and trivializes some attacks there's plenty of bosses that don't become free unless you use a really powerful ability (which in this game using no abilities is actually very powerful). I tried every arena with the basic sword power in every game starting from triple deluxe. Both triple deluxe and planet robobot i beat on my first try with basically a full hp bar left, while both soul melter ex and ultimate cup z took me nearly 10 hours to beat. I'd hardly call that free compared to triple deluxe and planet robobot.
i want to give special props to morpho knights theme in this game, for not only being a great remix on the original theme but for having a seamless transition from that to the main theme. Every pseudo final boss theme generally has an "oh shit" feeling. That's certainly an accurate reaction to have, but this one in particular, despite the fact it's not the true final boss nor is it the most complex theme in the game, makes it feel like you ARE fighting a final boss. i hope future themes of alike bosses are like this.
Another excellent review, Monger! :D I think Nintendo, and HAL have mostly done an amazing job of FINALLY making an official 3D mainline Kirby game! Despite a few issues, along with a few strange choices, they've knocked out the park almost flawlessly for their first attempt at a main series Kirby title ever! I hope that for a lot of stuff that got added to the game gets added to future entries! A perfect way to celebrate Kirby's 30th anniversary! I like that you even managed to get the video uploaded on the 30th anniversary of the original Japanese release of the first game "Kirby Of The Stars"! I look forward to seeing what Nintendo, and HAL will do for the next 3D title, as well as future games period! Here's hoping your video containing the game's amazing music doesn't get muted by Nintendo's atrocious copyright abusive powers. XD I can't wait to see your Kirby Lore video for Discovery!
I am among the ones that had maximum Kirby brainrot, and went out to hit all the target times in this game as I progressed in my playthrough. Just looking at Dragon Fire is enough to give me PTSD.
Hearing the "And here we are!" at 0:37 made me feel a jolt of genuine terror.
Same.
me too i don't know if that was purposeful or not 😭😭
:)
Yeah he knew EXACTLY what he was doing with that!
Yeah. They really knew how to ramp up the intensity
Tip for the boat: The controls don't change at all. If you press up, the boat will go up - not forward. Left and right don't swerve, they make the boat go left and right.
Oh good! I was worried there was going to be axis swapping irritation like with Mario.
I’ve seen a lot of people struggling with that one cause it’s what they might expect. Would’ve been interesting if they threw in a switch controls option like they did for the glider mouth to invert the y axis
My first insctinct was to guess they changed. It took me like 2-3 boats to get it
@@icarue993 I played it on release - I don't think they change it
@@ClubbingSealCub as in what the up do changed, like what Monger thinks. It took me 2-3 tries to understand how it actually works. Not saying the devs changed it.
“Kirby utilizes the power of truck to obliterate the space twink.”
Greatest quote in the video
😁 It's so great to see Fecto Elfilis gets run over by Truckby
And the fact it's said so straight faced kills me as well.
"However the one thing I never accounted for was truck" is also a good quote

It's funny how despite Forgotten Land's title, this game managed to deliver a genuinely unforgettable gaming experience; I seriously hope this game gets some sort of award, Forgotten Land definitely deserves to become ForGOTYen Land
I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and praise more of this game's music; "Decisive Battle: Ultimate Z", the battle theme in The Ultimate Cup Z does such a wonderful job at making bosses feel intense, and I think it's one of the best songs in the franchise
"Faded Dream of a Psychomeddler" was briefly mentioned in the video, but I think this song is phenomenal at setting the mood for Isolated Isles, ESPECIALLY with its piano
By the way, happy 30th Anniversary to the Kirby Franchise!!

I love how canonically the Forgotten Land is abandoned because its residents just. Left.
Perhaps they just had Forgotten about their Land?
Reminds me of Rain World.
I really hope that the next time they make a 3D Kirby game they make all the abilities as complex as Morpho Knight Sword, or at least close.
Also while people like to hate on fleur tornado, it has a secret move that none of the other tornado evolutions have or any other ability in general, you can spin with the joystick and kirby will go into a state where you can move around while spinning and can walk through lava and poison freely
Edit: nvm ive been lied to, it does nothing but make you move around while spinning with a shiny effect, thats literally it from what ive tried
Yeah, that's why the pause screen info should've stayed, they could've put that in there.
@@leedlelel2373 that's why I love this game so much, this game has no many secrets that you could go the entire game and not pick up, so there's always something to discover
@@leedlelel2373 Though it techncially also does a very small hit around you when you end it. Still basically useless, but it's still something. :P
Also for some reason people never talk about needle having 3 different moves, rather than the two most associate with (attack, moving attack, and jumping while holding attack.
The Challenge Roads also d a great job at testing your skills
If this kind of passion is included in future 3D games, Kirby is going to have a very bright future. Happy 30th Anniversary
I honestly love the music. “Eternal Echo of the Thrilling Tour-Our-Our”
is probably the first Nintendo soundtrack to actually give me chills.
I was very surprised how well they nailed their first 3D Kirby, it just feels complete and well thought out through and through. I can't imagine how you could have a better transition into 3D
Kirby having more views than Bayo3 and XC3 should be obvious.
Idk, feel like you're overselling it a bit. The level designs were pretty basic for the most part and the combat isn't that deep even with the upgrades. This honestly just feels like a 2D Kirby but in 3D.
Whoever decided to make the invincibility music a rock remix deserves a huge raise
Everyone at HAL Laboratory deserves a huge raise for making this game.
And this guy who decided to make that remix deserves another huge raise.
Honestly it's so much better that I've forgotten what the normal one sounds like.
@@StarBeam500 same thing but like, sine wave notes I think
The soundtrack is definitely what really sold this game for me. I wasnt expecting much when I entered a level just called "Northeast Frost Street", but oh man when the full orchestra came in half way through the song, I genuinely had to stop and listen through the whole thing before I contiued through the level. I also love Pitch-Black Horror for some reason, it just kinda goes hard out of nowhere lol.
I can never hear the phrase “And here we are” the same ever again after this game

Still on the fence between this and robobot. Robobot is Peak 2D, but Forgotten Land is Hal’s first Big 3D experience and its near perfect

Same here I had to attempt the boss like 5 times before my brain looked closer at the debris and saw it being jumping height
Maybe it's going to get free updates, like star allies did.
If it gets free updates everyone will hate and complain about the game for not having it at launch like the whiney babies they are

The semi trunk Kirby theme is so fricking good I mean it’s theme is mixed with the invincibility theme
This is easily one of the best Kirby games. I think it deserves GOTY honestly.
Elden ring will probably get and although good I do kinds incline towards FL deserving the win
@@CBman11037 I’m hoping for at least family game of the year or best platformer
I think a game that has relatively little content and play time compared to a game like Elden Ring has to be _perfect_ in basically all aspects, just because there's not as much there. And I don't think KatFL is perfect in its platforming. It's hard to see what's going on with a lot of enemies, and it can be frustrating during the times you can't gauge height, especially on the Treasure levels.
But give HAL a game or two, because they just might get there.

This was definitely one of my favorite Nintendo games cuz of how calming and fun it is
I already had high expectations for this game leading up to release, and it still blew me away.

It's funny because for me, when I see this butterfly, I says "Yes! Drop the saxo! Let's rock!"
3:43 Huh? That's a strange take... Its intense power and evasiveness makes it easily the best ability (not including tier 4s) for taking on bosses, metaphorical hands down.
The only "environmental" thing about it is that some surfaces can't be dug into, which is rare enough that it's not a very big deal.
bad takes on the low placement of the drill evos, too
I didn't notice that I needed to climb the debris, either. I thought it was like, a wall to hide behind.
Rankings of Secondary abilities:
Cute tho
Rankings of Tertiary abilities:

Honestly this is the big step of Kirby, and it was really enjoyable, can’t wait to see where the Kirby series takes us
My first Kirby game, and now I think I’m hooked on the series.
Also, I got my own lore theory, so spoilers for the Forgotten Land:
So we learn that the prior residents of this forgotten land were technologically advanced due to catching Fecto Elfilis, then they left for “a land of dreams.” I heard one theory that they were the ancients, which makes some sense, since in prior games, we learn the Ancients are responsible for a lot of the relics that are seen in Dreamland.

The 2 best parts are that the text works and that the each deedly dees will stop playing if their instrument isn't on, and how the speed changes mid song. True dedication.
From this point on I can no longer see Dedede as a villain or anything less than a hero

I went to the last area, Another Dimension, with 17 lives only. And I had a game over against Magolor's last phase.
For the next game, I hope you are traveling across the galaxy and visiting multiple planets, just like Milky Way wishes and the crystal shards.
Being my first Kirby game since Amazing Mirror that i played, I really picked the right one. I feel I need to get a copy of planet robobot as well.
Forgotten Land has been really good so far.
"can't wait until the next kirby game is set in an active warzone"
ok but hear me out- 2 Interplanetary forces with some obscure rivalry clash, Pop Star becomes their battleground, kirby and co trying to break it up and keep their land in tact.
The only thing I find Blasphemous is the lack of Beam.
It is litterally THE FIRST copy ability.

1: Hammer. whack. What can I say
2nd tier:
12: Pencil Drill.
Tier 3 (and 4)
12: Wild Hammer.
Amazing.
This game is so damn near perfect. Probably my favourite Switch game to date!
"I'll take to the streets if this doesn't win soundtrack of the year"
Xenoblade 3: "You underestimate my power!"
My main complaint was I had no idea a dodge button EXISTED. They really should have done a tutorial somewhere…
actually the wastes where life began is referring to the fact that the Beast Pack originated on this continent, which is why primal awoofies are found here
53:55 You're not alone. I felt really stupid when I missed that cue as well.
You actually got me excited to love the Kirby games, before this I only played Kirby’s dream collection on the Wii when I was a kid and I didn’t like the Kirby games because I didn’t understand the story. (I was a dumb kid)
"AND HERE WE ARE!" Still gives me nightmares
Don't worry i too had no idea you had to climb the rocks during the fight. I had to look up a video to figure it out
Best detail I found when replaying the final fight with some friends. Bandana Waddle Dee rides on top of the truck and can throw spears in that last scene. Its hilarious.
“Kirby and Elfilin use the power of truck to obliterate the space twink”
54:02 well luckily you aren't because I didn't know that either until a little bit later
The dashing in Forgotten Land is an analog thing; merely tilting the stick makes Kirby walk.
39:20 Ganon in Ocarina of Time, anyone? Not only had D3 taken a more porky appearance, but he starts the fight dual-wielding hammers. Wouldn't be the first time Kiby's takne inspo from Link
4:28 The upgrade isn't actually permanent, you can change it back by going up to it and then selecting whatever form of it you want.
I can't articulate how happy this game makes me. Happy 30th, Kirby!
Not everyone is a Dark Souls Metalhead
@@christiandauz3742 I have never touched a Dark Souls game in my life.
@@crimsonDestroyer
You sound like you have perfected playng the Souls games before playing Forgotten Land
@@christiandauz3742 I cannot be more direct about the fact that I have never played Dark Souls or anything else remotely in that genre (unless you count Kirby). Though maybe I'd enjoy it if I did.
Theres almost no chance to use the tier 3 charge on the Morpho Sword in the true arena without taking a hit or 4
Really enjoyed the review.
Honestly, it's mostly because dodging is so OP in this game. EVERY boss is free if you know how to dodge properly.
I would love to hear more about the intrinsic details within the Treasure Road challenges which I noticed when I watched a playthrough of the game.
i want to give special props to morpho knights theme in this game, for not only being a great remix on the original theme but for having a seamless transition from that to the main theme.
Happy 30th Anniversary Kirby!
0:39 “and here we are!”
Me: *heavy breathing*
Huh. Wasn't expecting to see one of my screenshots in this video. I'm the one who took the screenshot of Leongar shown at 40:31.
Just looking at Dragon Fire is enough to give me PTSD.
if the timer wasn't bad enough you had to deal with the perspective that may as well have been isometric with how hard it was to judge where you were.
