    As a Dane, I’m glad we have a new king and queen, but I will never forget what our dear queen Margrethe 2’ did for our country. She is beloved, and rightfully so

    So sad that her beloved husband couldn’t be healthy and there with her. It’s good to let her son take his place while she‘s still there to support him, and her grandson as Prince. God bless this family and Denmark.

    Fun fact - many of the Hussars riding here were conscripts, who had finished their service one week before this day. For, what may surely be, on of the first time in history, you had conscript soldiers actually begging to have their time extended, so they could be part of this special day.

      "Queen Mother" would be such a silly looking "Title" for Margrethe!! She is NOT the mother of the Queen!! I know the one over there in the UK WAS the mother of their Queen. So that made sense. But NOT for Margrethe!! "Anglo" people who call her that, just looks silly!

      @DW-dd4iw Weren't the horses and Hussars great? A bit sad for Margrethe that she bids the Danes farewell alone in her coach. The security services walking alongside, scanning the crowd, made me think too. But all in all - a lovely commemoration for her 52 years as monarch.

    Every country that has a royal family has their own procedures for this sort of thing, you really can’t compare them against each other. The women commentating this event are so annoying. It would be a lot better if they weren’t talking so much. They should also not be talking about vicious rumours on such an eventful day, hearing that it was in poor taste and inappropriate. Hopefully they will get their act together.

    It isn't a total abdication, she is becoming regent, and when the new king is in either the Pharoe islands, or Greenland she will be defacto queen temporarily, in Copenhagen. A very clever move!!

      She will simply be styled as just “HM Queen Margarethe”, instead of just “HM the Queen.” You’ll also notice that Queen Margrethe will no longer keep her regnal number, as that is only reserved for the reigning monarch.

So that made sense. But obviously not for Margrethe!! Dronning Ingrid, the mother of Margrethe was always only going by Dronning Ingrid. Until she died in 2.000. No "consort", "mother" or "widow" added to the Queen Title here in Danmark! Ingrid was known to not want to be called any of that!

      @jdpatrick1106 I think it lost something in the translation 😄 Remember that more Europeans smoke per capita than in some other regions. Smoking has obviously been either Queen Margrethe's pleasure, addiction or both. And she hasn't hid her habit, unlike some high profile smokers. There's also the matter of fitting into your formal gowns and not looking like an overfed, podgy Queen. Smoking can help curtail appetite for some smokers.

      Bad faith actors are so easy to spot. The UK’s Monarchy is different to the Danish, just like how every other monarchy has different customs and traditions. THATS the whole point! To show WHO you are. Countries aren’t just lines on a map, they have things they stand for and customs they practice. Royals are fine all over the world, they’re no different than funding put aside for a national museum.

      I somewhat agree. So long as you are well enough, and she is well enough right now, your life is to serve. If you accept the crown and all the prestige and wealth associated (something you possess through birthright ) an exceptional sacrifice must be made. It is incredibly difficult to justify royalty without the sacrifice or weight of the crown.
