- Albania was the 31st country I visited on my round the world tour. There aren’t many countries like Albania left in Europe, where you’re permitted to go off-road and camp anywhere you feel like it. Albania is an ADV rider’s heaven, which had been on my bucket list for a long time. At the time I was still recovering from the spiral fracture in my leg and mentally I wasn't ready to get off the beaten track yet. So I stuck to the main roads, but still had a ball!

For sure Albania is one of the more interesting countries in the Balkans. I was the first time down 15 years ago when it was really even wilder. Two years ago, we ate right in the camp where you slept for the first time. They have great food, special fresh fish. I recommend also the road SH20 from Shkodra to MOntenegro border (Gusinje).

Albania looks pretty civilized now. I rode across it on a Triumph Daytona 900 on a 16 country tour, when it was a fledgling democracy and both tough and unsafe to travel through. I stayed in the Hotel Djati in Tirana, where the Soviet-era bigwigs used to stay. Hotel was like being in a living hell with only stale bread, rancid cheese, black olives and disgusting coffee for breakfast and huge damp stains on the bedroom walls. Probably part of a luxury chain nowadays.
Spectacular scenery, man all those mountain goats, what a great moment, you couldn't plan that. It's moments like that make a trip so special. Great video.

I'm Albanian, but I have a gilera cougar just 125cc so I hit jys half Albenia with it. Vlora - llogara- Saranda. And yes That part is heaven of motorcyclist. If some one is on the way to, tell me to pick up some roads together.

@@onherbike thanks we will do that, the plan actually was 2020 but du to corona we couln't. I think this year also will be a problem. But hopefully we can make our trip from the Netherlands tru the balkan to Turkey next year. Albania is definitly on that route!! (my husband has also a BMW800GS i myself drive a 700GS

Can't be 100% sure but it looked like the lorry driver hindered you from passing
as he knew that the road where getting narrower and would be a risk to you.
I might be wrong but I've seen this happening a couple of times with truck
drivers that are really conscious of what's going on around them and the risks.
Per Eklund I agree. Lorry drivers are usually good about giving way to other vehicles whenever it is safe to do so.
Per Eklund, good observation. I have noticed from my experience here in Australia that the road train (very big trucks) drivers are very helpful and do signal with their indicators when it is safe to pass. They certainly have a clearer view from high up in their cabs, and they usually know the roads better too. I always give them a wave, which is always reciprocated, and often have a chat with them at stops - best way to find out about road conditions, but don't forget they are in trucks, not riding, so their view may differ from ours.
