In Google maps also you can share your location indefinitely by turning on the 'until you turn this off' option.

The main benefit is it's one time setup.

This feature is also on Google Maps (Location Sharing) on Android since ages, i use it myself everyday anytime. It works exactly same way you described. Not sure, why you are saying its iPhone exclusive feature?

Why isn’t my iPhone number not showing in my sisters iPhone? In her iPhone’s find my app, it show that my number is not associated with an iPhone which is not true.
I am using the iPhone for years on the same phone number.

lol find my phone can remotely erase or lock or display any message. it's for emergency only.
Location sharing can be used if someone in family is going out and someone in home wants to keep track of them.
