After traveling to Belize 4 times, most of these con’s are either non-issues or pro’s for me lol! The amazing people and simplicity are exactly what I’m looking for in future retirement plans. No place is perfect but Belize is perfect for me. I really like your content, by the way!

I lived and taught in Belize for almost ten years and loved it. Belize is a beautiful country with wonderful people, warm, kind and generous. My best friend friend in the world was Belizean and I thank God for the friendship we shared and that of her lovely family. I regard them as my own. I would be proud to be called Belizean.

We are here for 4 months on a type of work/fun time and have found the climate awesome, people friendly, and $2-for-$1 Belize to US dollar. Most of the cons of this vid are truly pros we have found. I think their motto is “Livin’ de life”-very laidback culture. Love it!

Belize is a beautiful country with lots of beautiful and kind people. Belize also has decent healthcare and lots of upgraded infrastructure. For $1 US dollar you get $2 Belizean dollars. Cost of living is reasonable, the weather is great with lots of things to do to stay active. Belize for retirees 💕💕

Retired here four years ago and we love it! So what if things take a bit longer to come to fruition, we’re retired, isn’t that what it’s all about?
We’re both pretty healthy so health care isn’t too much of an issue. I did have a problem in 2018 and was referred by my local GP to a wonderful doctor in Orange Walk who looked after me beautifully. We don’t have insurance, just pay as we go.

You do not need to use apostrophes to make a word plural. Apostrophes are used to show possession.
Been Iiving in Belize for 4.5 years. This video is not informative truthfully at all. If you wamt to move to the US for instance from a foreign country, guess what, you have to submits your finances. I have never not been able to get the things I need in Belize. I may not get McDonald's or go to Walmart, but who cares. Don't listen to this guy.
Property taxes in Belize is usually between $75-150 USD per year.
I actually saw someone claim they had to pay $5/ year. So they paid 5 years at a time!

I went to Belize in 2008 for 6 months and worked. I fell in love with that country due to the lack of development, it was still Raw. It has grown over the years but I sill find it to be a great place for me to retire. This video does mention a lot of “Cons” most of which you agree with then this is not the place for you. Belize is for a person that wants to experience a natural life one that is slow and without stress.

Most places will require you to submit information about your retirement fund, any places will have cultural limitations it’s called respecting a country and it’s culture. Not every state/country wants to be like America. Belize is meant to be a calm place where you can set your spirit free. Crime is a fact of life. If someone is interested in moving to or even visiting Belize, it's useful information for them to have. Just as a person moving from one city to another in the US would look at crime stats. Street crime doesn't spring from nothing...it's typically driven by poverty.

I have lived in Belize for almost six years and I find the info in this video to me primarily true. However I also find living in Belize to be less expensive then the US. The village I live in is quiet with a very low crime rate. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for.

Retirees are generally older, and more in need of good medical care. This is not available in Belize, although it's improving. All things being equal, a sudden serious medical emergency in Belize is likely to have dire consequences compared to, say, the Florida Keys.

Belize is an amazing country!
Someone from NYC or LA may have to do a lot of adjusting to live in Belize, but they would have to do a lot of adjusting to live in the rural parts of the USA too. Someone from a a rural location in the USA may not have to adjust to much other than to a new language, a higher cost of living, lack of winter weather and different kinds of fresh produce. Americans who live in rural areas are already familiar with unpaved or poorly maintained two-lane roads, power outages, spotty cellphone coverage, wildlife standing in roads or getting into the trash cans or wandering onto the back porch or making a lot of noise at sunrise, minimal opportunities for entertainment, limited shopping opportunities and a delay to get repairs to vehicles or major appliances if a new part has to be ordered. Anyone from the southern USA is already familiar with high temperatures and high humidity in summer and the damage hurricanes can do.
A higher cost of living? That confuses me on all that I've read about Belize

Nice to hear the downside for a change. Been to Belize dozens of times and love it.
I have a Home in Belize not living there yet however I have visited many times these cons are not an issue for me I bring what I need from the US my place is on the island of Ambergris’s Caye right outside of San Pedro town it is soooo nice to be away from the crime in the politics of the states. It is a short flight from Atlanta under 3 hours. It is a developing country so roads out side of town have pot holes. Love riding on golf cart and the simple life. Overall the good outweighs the bad❤️

Thanks for listing the CONS. I had considered it mostly due to English being spoken there and other countries in the area are mostly Spanish speaking and I don't speak Spanish. I would suggest getting advice from somebody who actually lives in belize than somebody who only visited. The experience is much different. Half of the stuff in this video is lies. Not saying Belize doesn’t have it’s cons but comparing to America isn’t going to make your trip fun.
This video seemed to focus more on the cons than the pros of Belize. Also, it seemed to exaggerate the cons to great extent. Belize does have plenty of good supermarkets. We don't have McDonald's, Carl's Jr and Starbucks, etc but she has good stuff otherwise instead. And, for goodness sake, Belize doesn't have "chicken busses". This video is not a good source of information about Belize.

I'm in Virginia now, known for super high humidity and super hot summers. And no air conditioning except at my fire stations. I'll fit just fine. I'm old. I'll probably die there.
Based on this video,, Belize sounds like a nightmare. LOL ! Between the humidity, loud parties and all the noisy birds apparently auditioning for American Idol, visitors must go nuts pretty quickly there.

I have a friend from Belize absolutely the most laid back and kind friend Ive ever met.He is a christian and strong family man with wonderful children.If there all like him I would defiantly consider moving there at some point.He did say its very humid there at times when its raining a lot and washing out roads.

Most of what you say refers to high income Europeans who are accostomed to at certain lifestyle and have unrealalistic expectations, and are culturally opposite of the indegemous people, while other things you relate makes sense. I am black so some of the things you mention are more culturally familiar. In my travels I find most people of color have more in common than not, and Europeans are the farthest outside that cultural

Yes, I did discover it might be difficult to buy ordinary items like toiletries. My luggage was delayed so I went into a shopping area in Belize City to grab toiletries. Didn't think to check expiration dates... some of the items I selected off the store shelf proved to be long expired despite being offered for sale. Luckily my bag arrived the next day.

If those things annoy you, then Belize is certainly not for you. I grew up there, even tho I'm more a clear skin guy, I hanged with the brothers from the block. I've since moved away, but I'd do anything g to be back there and retire. San Ignacio will always be home. I hope your next journey there is a better experience cause it sounds like you were having the worst luck in such a peaceful place

I have travelled to several countries, and in the neighboring republics;Belize roads are superior to most in the West Indies and most in Central America.Most retirees in America cannot afford to pay a mortgage/rent,and purchase opera tickets on a regular basis.The gangs in Belize were not home grown,they were imported from the US via deportation.
Heck some of the things presented here on the "con" list is why I would want to go.
