I will NEVER forget hearing this song the 1st time. I was getting ready to go out for the evening and had the TV on to some award show. She started singing this song which I had never heard. I came out of another room to see who had this UNBELIEVABLE voice. I couldn't believe how perfect her voice was. I didn't leave the TV until it was over and made a point of finding out her name. She blew me away. Her voice is still superior to today's singer. I can't believe ANYONE listens to Adele!
Listen for k.d. lang as a backup singer with Bonnie Rait, Jennifer Wairnes, to Roy Orbison's PBS Special, "Black and White Night" -- included Bruce Springsteen, J.D. Souther, Jackson Brown, Elvis Costello, T. Bone Burnett, Tom Waits, etc. Amazing singer! Her range from country to jazz is deeply moving for me!
I too saw her on a late nite show, the audience was so pulled the music that when she finished they didn't applaud, kinda lullabied, the host had to shout her name the they erupted into a standing ovation
@@DariceDavisjprocks94I remember the Roy Orbison special with kd land especially when they both sang crying. Loved it and watched a few times. Wonder if anyone put it on TH-cam?
She didn't "retire" per se...what she DID do tho is shoot herself in the foot and commit career suicide by announcing to the world that she's a lesbian...she wasn't "cemented" yet as an artist whose career could sustain such a revelation (like Melissa Etheridge and Ellen DeGeneres) and as soon as she announced it, her career died instantly
this has to be the best rock song! i have said it for decades- and nuthin' could beat it--how could anything?? at best, it might approach this awesomeness- just whoa!
My stepmum adored k.d. lang. She loved her music and found her very attractive lol. My stepmum was married to a man for years and thought she was straight but had what she liked to call a "midlife crisis" in her 50s lol and discovered she was bi (she split up with her husband for unrelated reasons though). She'd always been obsessed with k.d. lang though, it's just that then was when it finally made sense to her as to why. She met my lesbian mum during this so-called "midlife crisis" lol and they fell in love. 🥺❤️ My stepmum unfortunately very suddenly passed away this past July from a pulmonary embolism that no one knew about until it killed her. My mum chose this as the exit song to play at her funeral. They'd had a wonderful 7 years together and were still together when she died. This was one of the songs that my stepmum always used to play to my mum. It's been a hard year for me and my mum, as well as my stepmum's two sons, and also her ex-husband who still cared deeply for her. I hope you're having a good new year's eve in the afterlife, Alyson. ❤️ Thank you for changing our lives for the better forever and showing us this awesome music. ❤️ I'm definitely thinking of you today. 😢❤️❤️❤️
“Constant Craving,” was written by k.d. lang and was her most commercially successful single. A song about the struggles of life and the resiliency of the human spirit, “Constant Craving” is a great example of how a lot can be said with a concise lyric, and is notable for its short verses: "Even through the darkest phase Be it thick or thin Always someone marches brave Here beneath my skin" and "Maybe a great magnet pulls All souls towards truth Or maybe it is life itself That feeds wisdom to its youth" And that’s it. That’s both verses of the song. While the premise isn’t entirely unique, the lyrics of “Constant Craving” illustrate that, when the right words are used, less really is more, or is at least just the right amount. And then there’s the chorus, which is only five words: "Constant craving Has always been." Of course, the melody and lang’s delivery, with the syllables drawn out, determine how many beats the words take up within a measure. The song is so expertly written that the few words of the chorus fit perfectly, and say exactly what needs to be said. ’Constant Craving,’ as a matter of fact, wasn’t finished until a week before we actually finished the Ingénue album,” lang said. “I wasn’t happy. I was fighting with the structure of the song right up to the last minute and finally I decided to take a verse out and put a guitar solo in … It was a real tough tooth to pull, that one. It was really hard.” Of crafting the song’s lyrics, lang says, “See, I struggle with tiny little words like ‘here beneath my skin’ or ‘just beneath my skin.’ Every little word. I take hours sometimes on one word.” “Constant Craving” is outstanding work, and shows just how great a song can turn out to be when painstaking consideration is given to every word.

@MarcosBryant-xg6nu hello, I love all of k.d. Lang's songs but 'constant craving', 'I'm Ok', 'Save me' is constantly on repeat. Which songs do you like?
I love your metaphor! For me her heat and her light were like a sun. It may be a cliche but that was what hit me. Of all her duets with others I always wished for her to duo with Chris Isaac. Maybe on Western Stars, a song Chris Isaac wrote and admits, "KD Lang sang the heck out of it." One can only wish or wait till they "open" in heaven.

I can't believe ANYONE listens to Adele!
it's a grabber...
Soulful lyrics that are easy to relate with.
I always thought it was "Can't Stand Gravy "
I've heard she has pretty much retired. So be it, her voice will be with me forever. Still gives me goosebumps. Always will. Thank you, K.D.
Thank God for recordings! I would hate to lose any of her songs. I can listen to her songs all day and night. Thank you K.D!
" Her voice will be with me forever. Still gives me goosebumps. Always will. Thank you, K.D." My sentiments exactly sue ann Tippet !
@@MAllen-g9r me too. Love her and her voice so much.
Classic torch. Hauntingly beautiful. ❤
Im in UK loved this song since I first heard it sang by KDLang at least 20 years ago.its amazing.
There are only a handful of singers who when they start to sing, you know who they are. k.d. lang is one of them. Absolutely amazing! What a voice.
ak je človek znalec rozozná viacerých spevákov nie je ich málo každý má svoj charakteristický štýl spevu a farbu hlasu...
austin teutsch You said a mouthful! I couldn't agree any more...
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jimmy Spheres
The Brilliant KD. I never tire of listening to her voice. No one comes close to her. Ever. 🇮🇪💚🍀
The only other woman that could match her is Sarah McLachlan.
This song brings me back to simpler times.
Love this woman's voice. Soooooo smooth.
Love her voice. It's like she's savoring each note she's singing. The harmonization in the chorus is so spot on.
Yeh fuck Allen degenerate, glad if rid of her
The best part is she is harmonizing with her own voices...amazing!
I love you K.D. Lang, as singer and as a woman...😘😘😘👍👍👍
First time I heard this was outside of Longview Alberta . Atop a hill looking West . Just awesome and so fitting. KD you are the best
She's beautiful
Her voice is pure gold.
Yes. Amazing singer nice memories still listening to this song... How are you Trish ?
A constant craving still in 2019...💕💕🔥🔥
this has to be the best rock song! i have said it for decades- and nuthin' could beat it--how could anything?? at best, it might approach this awesomeness- just whoa!
Perfection never goes out of style.
I'm still craving in March 2019
I was just about to say exactly that. Glad KD's still.popular today. God how I adore this woman.❤️🎵🙏💐
I reckon! Love.🖤
Constant craving - that's love!
Her voice is literally perfect
gaby_vh .....I LOVE that it is Androgenous in Artistry💜
Beautiful voice
Never been a better voice since Patsy died
@@Mattteus Except K D Lang's idol - Karen Carpenter.
can i meet your mom?
KD Lang has such a fabulous voice I love listening to her... Paula Cole was another underrated performer
I saw both in concert-separately-years ago. Each us unique, gifted and fabulous!
Full agreement
Yes! I saw her when she toured with Peter Gabriel. She is another real talent.
@@joannepoole2434the secret world tour is phenomenal! I'm jealous you got to see it live!
Love love love this song! I'm here for it in 2024! ❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🤎🖤🩶🤍
“Constant Craving,” was written by k.d. lang and was her most commercially successful single. A song about the struggles of life and the resiliency of the human spirit, “Constant Craving” is a great example of how a lot can be said with a concise lyric, and is notable for its short verses:
"Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin"
and
"Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
That feeds wisdom to its youth"
And that’s it. That’s both verses of the song. While the premise isn’t entirely unique, the lyrics of “Constant Craving” illustrate that, when the right words are used, less really is more, or is at least just the right amount.
And then there’s the chorus, which is only five words:
"Constant craving
Has always been."
Of course, the melody and lang’s delivery, with the syllables drawn out, determine how many beats the words take up within a measure.
It was really hard.”
Of crafting the song’s lyrics, lang says, “See, I struggle with tiny little words like ‘here beneath my skin’ or ‘just beneath my skin.’ Every little word. I take hours sometimes on one word.”
“Constant Craving” is outstanding work, and shows just how great a song can turn out to be when painstaking consideration is given to every word.

Wow, you are extremely articulate! If you aren’t a writer, you should be. I cannot express myself very well but certainly recognize those who can. Great editorial on this amazing song. 🤗
Thanks!
Thank you for that background. There isn't much on wiki.
She credits her co-writer Ben Mink with the inspiration for this gem.
THANK YOU!!
until she came out... shame on you all
One of the most beautiful voices of our generation.
extremely underrated singer, truly one of the best voices of our generation.and even better live.
Steven harland the UK for your

Steven harland KD has a beautiful effortless voice, full of passion and, obviously a great talent. Plus she is so magnetic to watch.
Steven harland yes, one of an elite few with that badge of honor.
what do you mean, the UK for me.
Stunning song
Her voice is off the chain what a magnificent talent
Yes soothing and sexy at the same time
@@yvonnemendez3075 Exactly!
Her voice is velvety❣️
2016 and still listening.
rayva1 2017. me
Her smile is almost as beautiful as her voice
very few people can control their voice like she does . WHAT a talent .
Hello Pat
As mesmerizing as it was nearly 30 years ago when it was released
This setting was an old theater sited to be demolished, KD got permission to film this video in the theater and did.
It doesnt exist exist anymore luckily the song does because it is Beautiful like her voice.
I usually don't like a song on the first take but this song I did
Her voice has always been beautiful. It's so soothing and smooth.
Man her voice gives me chills like hearing an angel sing
Yeah, eh!
Beautiful song 🎶 🎵 Beautiful voice, Beautiful video BEAUTIFUL EVERYTHING ❤
K D is not underrated; She's no longer well known. Anyone who's heard her rates her at the top. It's sad, but it was her decision to refuse to be anyone but herself. Much respect, K D.
Apr 2023 still loving her soothing vocals.
Same here❤️❤️
Me too!
This song is a masterpiece.
It is a classic now.
2019 and still hauntingly beautiful ^_^
agreed...just heard it on the radio ...and jumped straight here!
well said!
@Concerned1 - Yes, if we erase politicians and get rid of the stock market, world bank and the UN, and each country mind it's own business, the world would be golden. Wall street first.
Has a wonderful beat
High praise, considering the praise Elvis Presley heaped on Roy Orbison.
90's ❤
what a beautifull song, kd lang is a very underated singer.
Underrated? By whom?
I think her talent has been recognised; she's been very successful!
I thing her whole persona is hard to categorize.
Mr Steven Beard : @Flax A you have the brain of a rat. England condemns you. England likes new exciting music, not sounds from the past century. Are you old and decrepid? You sound it! Are you an old schlerotic grand-dad? England thinks you are!
Hardly, she is one of the great vocalists of her era. Top 10.
WHAT a BEAUTIFUL VOICE on such a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN 🌹
To all my people on this "u tube" venture, you all are a breath of fresh air, all the comments, good and bad are so refreshing as well as funny, sad, and you all know the rest!! Love to you all! And keep fn rocking!!!! Lollollol!
KD is an absolute Gem
This is one of the best songs of the 1990's. Why are there not more like this?
In 93, we had some good Singles in Spring/Summer : What's up from The Four Non Blonde -- What is love from Haddaway - Sweet Harmony from Beloved-- Two Princes from The Spin Doctors-- Come Undone from Duran Duran -- World (the Price of love) from New Order -- Cannonball from the Breeders --
Omg ive loved her since her early career. That voice just goes deep into your soul and stays there for life.
Cause she is wholesome unlike the Ellen degenerate, thank God KD got rid of her.
K D Lang is a most gifted individual and I think we are lucky to get to enjoy her voice and the huge creativity she brings as well. K D Lang makes life good
@Kd Lang Thank you.
Miss K D Lang, a most gorgeous voice, I will listen to your songs forever, a truly blessed artist, please, release one more album before you retire? With love❤
I love her voice, her songs, the way she is with the audience x
@MarcosBryant-xg6nu hello, I love all of k.d. Lang's songs but 'constant craving', 'I'm Ok', 'Save me' is constantly on repeat. Which songs do you like?
It may require additional footage from you as well..
The voice hooked me..
Beautiful woman.
The voice of an angel.
wisdom seeker well said

Thank you so much.
Also, when she sings Hallelujah, her voice gives me _chills_ , everytime.
Her 'heat' is a furnace that will never burn out. I warm myself by the fire. 🔥 👏
To me ... her voice transcends boundaries. It is a gorgeous voice, under perfect control, but also energizing the moment. She has been a musical hero for me for a long time. One of the great and passionate voices of our time.
I like singing along to her...she's a good key for me.
*salamanca1954*
Beautiful thoughts and you're on point with her having great vocal control...she makes it seem effortless.
Perfect flow with, in the moment, emotional feeling .
Totally agree about the control - hadn't occurred to me until I read your comment. Well observed.
Very well said
There is something hauntingly beautiful about the video as well, soul stirring stuff indeed.
The years surrounding this song were some of the best for some fantastic voices to flourish.
