There is a story that supposedly he was at the River Raisin Massacre and escaped by swimming across the river. Absolutely amazing video, make an video about the Franco Prussian War. It's pretty historic, and I think in an Oversimplified style, it can be pretty good anyway
“Our soldiers from our boats to fight in their army” Sailors are on boats at I doubt the navy would kidnap people to fight in the army rather than the navy
awesome video, love this kind of content! One small detail though it's pronounced Mack-ka-naw not Mack-a-nick, its a weird spelling because it was a native language translated into French. Edit just realized like 10 other ppl commented this XD sry
GREAT Video!!! It's pretty surprising that the Americans won that Naval Battle considering the fact the Royal Navy...even by the mid 1800's was the STRONGEST Navy in the World.
Very common mistake for those not from the area but Mackinac is pronounced as if the c at the end is a w Mak•n•awe. It's a native American word. This is actually how we can tell if people are from Michigan or not.
Nice video! The War of 1812 is (arguably) an American victory, but it is generally seen as a draw. I'll explain: The Battle of New Orleans happened before the Treaty of Ghent was ratified. This is very important as the treaty is effectively meaningless without ratification. "Treaty of Nicolls' Outpost" is a perfect example of one as it was never ratified and it led right into to the First Seminole War (and American invasion of Spanish Florida). And the United States did achieve the majority of their war aims - directly or indirectly. Tecumseh’s Confederacy? Defeated. Red Stick Creeks? Defeated. Spanish Florida? Territory was secured from the Louisiana Purchase and West Florida weakened. Mobile might have been the only area kept. Federalists? Permanently discredited and a Federalist sheriff involved in smuggling for the British was chased out of town. The Battle of New Orleans ensured westward expansion and ended any potential chance of secession from the Federalists (blue-light Federalists) in "New Ireland". The British did not want any westward expansion; they wanted an Indian Buffer State, part of a lowly populated side of Maine, and control of the Mississippi River. The United States also voted against annexation prior to the failed invasion, as William Hull disobeyed Madison's orders on telling the inhabitants that it was the "United States's goal." Canadians tend to omit the vote against annexation when discussing the War of 1812. 😌
I am a Michigander. Fort Michilimackinac is the French fort on the lower peninsula in Mackinaw City. Fort Mackinac is the American fort on the island. All of these places are pronounced Mackinaw but only the city spells it that way! It was Fort Mackinac on the island that was attacked in War of 1812. 😂
@@adamyouker6449 Sorry, you're right! I did get the name of the Fort wrong. I have so many good memories of that day, and that trip in general, I guess I got it confused.
@@historywithseb Sorry, I did get the name of Fort Mackinac incorrect. As I already explained in my previous reply. I have so many good memories from that trip. I just got the name confused!
As a Canadian, pretty great video… but remember, the war of 1812 was Canadian victory. The Americans invaded Canada just for us to hold them back, and against all odds defend ourselves with British help against the much stronger Americans, plus we burned downed the White House, so that’s a plus! Maple syrup 🍁 hockey 🏒 and igloos continue to rule the north!
Who’s we? That was all the British especially the White House. And when the war ends with a peace agreement the British brought up first you tell me who won. Your just mad that you guys waited for independence to be given to you instead of fighting for it like the Americans did
@@zacharyhonrud2610The British were the ones who burned down the White House but most of the fighting was in Canada and the beginning of the war was mostly Canadians. At the time Canada wasn’t even a thing and they were just known as British too so obviously they would of been referred to as British at the time but if anything it’s both a Canadian and British victory and we both owned America
@@Thealphabethas11letters. The war began with the US wanting more Martine rights and also expanding into Canada, and in the end they failed both objectives, suffered more casualties and even at one point had their capital burnt down which was a national embarrassment. It was definitely a British victory. The US was lucky Britain was in the middle of another more important war during 1812
