    You know what I really love about your vids, is that there is ZERO TH-cam-like bullshit: no overlong intro, you don't ask for likes/subs, you don't put on any goofy affectations... you just really, really know your stuff and have an excellent delivery style.

      @best opinion what I am saying is some YTubers go off in a 2 and a half min tangent asking for likes, and subs and pushing their merch stuff when all you want to do is see the information.
      Asking for subs and pushing your merch out the gate is not a good look or natural.
      If I value your content I will for sure have already subbed, most likely I liked the video and I will look for merch to support the brand on my own.
      Your content and presentation just have to be honest and you will organically develop a good following, sell merch, and gain subscribers and likes.
      That is what I am saying
      So if I miss understood what your getting at, please feel free to let me know.

    Great video and informative as always.
    Just to add more info for who are interested to purchase one. I've received the stand today and they've fixed the shifter flex issue by putting a U shape clamp instead of the flat one which gave it a better rigidity, plus no more gap in the square tube which connects the upper part of the deck.
    I'm glad Next Level Racing took the feedback from the community and enhance their products.

    In answer to your inquiry about “Who this is for?” A DD wheel stand suits my setup well because I like gaming in our living room with my family close by, but I don’t want a full cockpit dominating our shared space. With a smaller stand, I can set it up when I get home from work, then tear it down when the pizza arrives and it’s time for us all to watch Family Guy on the couch.
    Also, thank you so so much! This hour long video was worth every second. I’m waiting on my NLR DD Wheel Stand to arrive shortly for use with my own DD setup and I have confidence with reasonable expectations based on your review. It was great to watch your video and I look forward to learning more about sim racing from your content. Cheers!

    Barry, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE investigate the issue with Fanatec DD2, Porsche rim, the new podium button module and podium hub that just stops working in the middle of racing! You’re the only one I know with a voice that can bring awareness to this. It’s all over the internet and Fanatec is just ignoring it. I spent $2200 on equipment that shuts down in the middle of a race and can’t get an answer or a fix! This problem is widely known and fanatec is ignoring it. I would also add I have every driver up to date!!! Also I’ve had the button module in use for three weeks and already one of the push buttons is cracked. Barry we all support you and your channel, please help us in return to get this information out there and get Fanatec to fix this MAJOR issue! If they don’t fix it ASAP a class action lawsuit is clearly in the making. From my experience this is a slam dunk lawsuit. Of course I don’t want to go that route but this is just pure negligent on their part. I have now read they’ve know it’s an issue for one year now yet they are still selling a broken product anyway.

      By the way, I had a gt1 Evo from simlab but moved to a small apartment. There is just not enough room to install a full blown gt evo rig. Plus you’re not done with the GT Evo rig, you will need a chair which are not cheap. So a wheel stand like this one is perfect for me. You have to make choices . No racing at all or racing with a bit less advanced rig. I know what I choose. 😁

    On the unit I have purchased they have changed the design so that the shifter mount now fits very tightly around the main stand on both sides as well as the front, all welded joints, the sides have rubber inserts to make it very tight. Not using a shifter at present but looks a lot more stable.

    I have had mine for 6 months, I mounted a T-500 wheel, a pair of button boxes, a TH-8A with a Ricmotech "clickety clack" sequential shift improver on mine. I used a junkyard seat on part of another rig base. I don't have nearly as much gap and no measurable slack in my DD wheel stand. I am using a set of G27 pedals inverted and mounted on another pedal plate. It is mounted at a 90 to regular pedal plate. I am using a ratchet strap to hold that from deflecting. With my feet on my pedals, I can yank the wheel towards me, but not happening. I love my rig. I like having it in two pieces, it makes it easier to move for cleaning. It is still pretty hard to move much. With my button boxes and the way they reinforce the top plate does not flex. But there are extra plates and bolts and all that. I really love my rig. Lots of adjustment.

    • @SpatialDragon
      @SpatialDragon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got tired of the wheel moving down and the front of the rig going up, but since I have round tubing in my seat base, it would be hard to bolt together. I used a couple of small simple straps, ratchet would be better, but non-ratchet works. I just went around and under the tubing, pulled it snug and tied off the excess. Virtually zero movement. I can still undo the straps to take it apart and move it for cleaning.

    They actually improved the mount for the shifter/handbreak arm. I got mine today and the mounting looks different. It now has like a U form and something like rubbers inside the mount, which "grabs" around the pole where it is mounted. It feels much more stable then it looks in the video. I finished building it now, but will do the fine tuning maybe tomorrow.

    Barry, I just built one of these units up and the shifter assembly has already been much improved over the unit you used in this review ... the mounting to the stand now wraps around three sides to create a much more rigid assembly. I also note fortunately, that the sliding vertical rails on my unit fit with tighter tolerances than what you had so that there is less of a gap. On the down side, I didn't get the nice lanyard or the extra decals but not such a great loss from my perspective. I went with this unit even as I only intend to use it with a Fanatec ClubSport set-up ... my objectives were portability and being what appears to be the most stable stand available.

    Thanks for the great review Barry. I have owned this particular stand a couple of weeks now with the Fanatec DD2 mounted. I bought it to replace a wheel stand pro. Space is a problem for me so this solution worked perfectly. Unlike the wheel stand pro, moving this frame out of the way of my desk is not feasible, so this is a permanent sim racing setup for me. The biggest issue I had was with the less than optimal angle of the wheel when the rear castors are fitted as mentioned in the video. Using the adjustments on the plate the wheel base is bolted to didn't help as they were not fine enough. I couldn't lower the height of the frame any further to compensate. I also couldn't get the rear castors off without dismantling everything, so I ended up putting an old piece of carpet under the front of the stand and that did the trick. One other problem I had was with the gear shifter mount. My chair has arm rests (unlike the one you are using) and the gear shift mount gets in the way as it sits at the same height. So I can't use it, this is really a big oversight on whoever came up with that idea. As it happens I don't have a separate gear shift so it's bit of a moot point for me :) Other than these two points, I'm very happy with the stand as there is really nothing else out there that will work with my limited space at present.

      I might get a DD1, will this stand be suitable for that? Space is an issue for me as well, but if I'm to get something like a DD1 I want to know I'll be able to use a lot of the force feedback it can put out, otherwise I feel I'd be wasting my money.

    • @rossdev
      @rossdev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meme._hoe._8392 For me the stand is very stable, although I'm nowhere near using the full torque of my DD2. I did have one issue with the right hand side vertical support pole creaking when my wheel was under load despite all the bolts being fully tightened. Next level racing replaced the pole under warranty - the new part looks to be a resdesign too. All good now though and I've owned the unit a little over 1 year.

    I know this review is now two years old, but as a person looking to buy this I'll put my two cents in. I have an incredibly tiny room that's barely big enough to fit my desk and bed, and while my desk is really solid and great for mounting my wheel to, my pedals are terrible and mounted very poorly. As well as that, having to remove my wheel from my desk to be able to use my PC as just a PC rather than a sim-racing-exclusive system, is very annoying. I want this because it'll give me a place to permanently mount my wheel and pedals, as well as the flexibility to use my gaming chair as both my sim-racing and PC chair.
    Had I the space, I would go for a proper rig.

  • @blklion100

    Hey Barry. I bought my wheel stand to replace my Wheelstand Pro when I pre-ordered my Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals. I live in a cramped New York apartment and really don't have room for a full rig. The one true disappointment I have with the stand was with the pads on the feet. They wasn't all that grippy enough for my hardwood floor and eventually, the adhesive loosened up to the point of being ineffective. My solution was to purchase soft rubber furniture pads to replace them.

    • @removedd
      @removedd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam, I have this one as well and the adhesive also let loose. I superglued all of the rubbers back on and took care to level the feet out perfectly for optimal grip on my oak wood floor. Stands like a house now and they don’t come off any more.

    Their 2.0 stand is much better with the range of pedal board adjustments, and the built in chair leg catch tray.. It keeps my Heman Miller Aeron with a solid connection to the stand -- doesn't move at all. It also helps that I swapped out the wheel casters on my chair with solid sliders -- just drop two of the frontmost chair feet in the tray and I'm off to the races.
    I also just now upgraded from a 5nm wheelbase to a 25nm base. Hopefully the stand can take the added torque when the Simucube 2 Pro gets here! The Stand was only $250 and I got it before knowing if I was going to go all in on sim racing; No regrets at all - as it's something that'll hold me over until I can afford a proper high end cockpit. I'll probably flip it on ebay when I upgrade in a few months. Heck, I might even keep it as a test bed for new sim gear and to have a second cockpit for friends to get in on some two-player racing .. It's easy to move out of the way when not in use.

    Barry, as for the pedal tray not being adjustable enough. I think you might have it installed backwards. I think it would make sense to have the curved end of the tray by your heals. That would make it more adjustable also.

    Buy a junkyard seat, a flat base and some industrial locking casters. That will give you an "ergonomic seating position." You have to be able to think outside of what can I buy online? I do use a pair of small non-ratchet straps to cinch the two together and it is rock solid comfortable all day and easily separated. All for MUCH less that a one piece rig with a seat that is comfy for 5 minutes and than you need out.

    I don't have room for anything else, if I could fit a cockpit, of course I'd prefer that but I still need something that can cope with a direct drive wheel base. The amount of visible flex in the video wasn't excessive, but I'm sure you could brace the gear shift mounting point, eliminate some of that movement, and stands always benefit from something to push against.

    So, I'm the edge case for this stand. I have the money, and not the space. On a funny note, I'm using a DD1 with Clubsport wheel, HE Sprints, and have just ordered the Aiologs shifter and handbrake.
    The Wheelstand DD will do the job until I have the space for a 20/40 rig. I figure I'll have all the right parts for a full rig, and once I have the space, I'll just have to spend maybe $800-$1,000 to get everything completed.

    The big reason why I'd go for a wheelstand over a full rig is that I can use it in the same spot as I normally use my PC and save the expense of buying another quality monitor. My PC monitor is on an arm, so I can adjust it perfectly for both simracing and normal use. I can lift my current setup (G29 on an Apiga AP2) in and out of place, but this thing looks like it would be too heavy for that, especially with some higher quality gear mounted. The casters look like they affect the adjustments too much to be a viable solution.
    For me, the next step up I can imagine would be a rig on casters that can be rolled to and from the desk. It would have to be the right shape for the pedals to go underneath and the wheeldeck to get nice and close to the desk, as the monitor arm can reach about as far as the desk edge. Are there any products of that nature out there? If not, the NLR DD might be the best for my situation.

    No excuses for not getting a DD now.edit_Also Barry mentions that this is in the ballpark of the cost of a full rig. BUT I really think that doesn't matter. The cost being similar is inconsequential as the benefit of this is that it is not a permanent fixture (or semi-permanent) like a cockpit is. So what if its close to a proper rig?

  • @Mikey6048
    @Mikey6048 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the original Ultimate full cockpit. And I had to modify the hell out of it to run my DD2. To make it more rigid. I love the rig, but if I were to do everything again. I would have went with a P1 from the beginning. So I'm not sure why NLR chose to make this product knowing others are much better at around the same price.
    Lol when I first got my original NLR wheel base. I used cording with a folding chair to keep myself from pushing away. Funny how the SRG is doing the same.

    That plate the wheel sits on loses after some hours and you need to strengthen it back. There are plenty screws if some will be damaged after a while. That's the main issue so far (one week). Also you have to fix the stand against the wall or something to not slide forward. It doesn't slide easily but for sure you can realize it moved forward after your playing session. Maybe that slide will not happen if you tie the stand with the chair. I didn't because my chair is stable, but I had to fix the stand against the wall.

I'm not a big guy but when having the shifter mount installed on the left hand side my thigh is always rest up against it when using the clutch pedal on my Fanatec V3s. Another thought on who this rig would work for is a streamer that flies and drives with a small studio. Buy two of them, $300 each and an office chair/racing seat with locking casters, or something... Set one rig up to fly and one to drive. Small footprint lengthwise, set them side by side or pull one in front of cameras at a time. It would be a lot better than trying to use an extruded aluminum rig for driving trucks, GT cars and flying airplanes. That is a terrible setup for that diversity. Look at Squirrel, he went aluminum and it just does not work easily. Sure you can do it, but much more work to switch.
