Hey man :) great video. The reason why those stompboxes are grayed out is because they are only available on the VIP 1. The VIP 2 & 3 have those same effects as "post-amp effects". Hope it helps!
Mark, Thanks so much for posting this! I tried it out on my VIP 3 and it works really well. So much easier to adjust tone settings and save them. Really great job on this video and you made it easy to understand these Vypyrs. Well Done!
Oh my gosh, thank you SO MUCH for mentioning the amp needed a firmware update! I couldn’t ever get the editing software to work, updated the firmware, now I’m in. Thank you good sir!
I just got the Vypyr this week.. Once you download the software it helps a great deal in understanding the way the amp works. Its cool to be able to try out thousands of dollars worth of pedals.
boulder89984 thanks for the compliments and for watching really appreciate it! Yeah I never claim to know anything I don’t lol. Someone would call me on it instantly if I did! Thanks for the support!
I brought a VIP 3 home this morning and was playing bass on it in 2 minutes. Actually knew what to adjust, realized what I was looking out and how to make it work in a snap. You are a great start up tutorial! Thanks. Otherwise I would have looked like a hog staring at a wrist watch. Please quote me on that!!
Regarding the grayed out stomps in the Edit software: It's for some peculiar reason due to the differences of the VIP 1 & VIP 2 amp interface for stomps/FX; the VIP 1 doesn't have the additional Effects control knob that's on the VIP 2. And, on the VIP 1 those particular stomps/FX are selected via the instr/stomps control knob whereas they are on the additional Effects knob on the VIP 1. Even if due to the differences in the amp face interface controls, the software needs to trigger a different switch to select the effect, the software should've been written to where it is simply available. However, pulling those effects out to the other little menu is also, probably related to that the VIP1 can only stack 4 FX at a time while the VIP 2 can stack 5 at a time. It's simply not the best written GUI, but as long as you can do what you need and it does as most editors for such guitar devices typically, do allow for a more intuitive and control knob oriented tweaking environment, I suppose it's not too bad. I've been using the ole Digitech X-Edit for a GNX3000 for over a decade and still find some of the quirks annoying, but tolerable now that I'm simply used to 'em.
I got one of these used from GC for about $150 2 years ago including the Sanpera II pedal and am very happy with it! It has become my main amp - very loud and has a great tone if you know how to tweak it like the guy in this video shows you. If you can find one used in great shape highly recommended. If you want a cheaper version of this I also have the VIP 1 which is smaller and less expensive but does not have the deeper bass and the volume of the VIP 2.
Appreciate the video. My wife bought me a VIP-1 as an anniversary gift six months ago and I still haven't figured this thing out. Wasn't even aware there was software for it. Maybe now instead of spending all my playing time turning knobs and pushing buttons, I can actually find a tone I'm happy with and get picking. Thank you!
I subscribed bro. You do pretty good demos/videos and Im about to buy a new amp and was so close to getting a Vypyr VIP@ and I ran across the Yamaha THR10X. Ola Englund did a demo with it. And I considered the Blackstar ID Core. This video is making me lean back towards the Vypyr. Btw I play heavy stuff so great metal tones are very important to me.
Hi Steven sorry I missed this comment somehow and just noticed it! Did you ever decide on an amp? If so what did you get? I haven't tried the Yamaha sounds interesting
Thx for making these videos on the vypr 2 I watched your videos and I now understand more about the amp. It’s my favorite amp to play now I can have more fun thanks to you!!
I have Peavey Vypyr 75 and there is only are PC recording USB port on the front which does not appear in the application at all for MIDI. A helpful tip, as per the Peavey website says, use the correct updates for the correct generation of amp. I have seen not one video, for anything, of the model I have
I really wanted the boss 50, but got the vyper 2 instead because it was only 120 cdn used. So far I like the way it sounds, not a big fan of the new modelling amps, but i'm glad i got this anyway.
I find the control layout on my Vypyr VIP 2 to be simple to the point of being almost idiot proof. You can make entire presets or edit existing ones in a matter of seconds. You just turn knobs and/or tap and turn knobs. It's just an amp... with more knobs. I find it satifyingly tactile compared to trying to do the same thing with my old Digitech RP7 floor unit. Trying to bend over and scroll through paramiters od those floor units while jamming is exhaisting and annoying. Now, if only the VIP2 sounded as good as my old RP7 it would be perfect.
Does the usb always turn the speaker off? I want to mic my amp on the far side of my studio and use usb like a remote, which will be handy for reamping my recorded DI tracs.
Great video, Wondering, do you know if the Edit software can make the vyper sanpera pro foot pedal can become a whammy pedal,,,, need to lower pitch full octave and need it done on the pedal for a particular song.
Press down on the top (toe) end of the pedal. You'll hear a click. The green "main" light will switch to the red "aux" light. You now have a wah pedal. Click again to switch back. Hope that helps.
Hey thanks for watching! I have tried the Sanpera once but I don't own one to do a review with unfortunately. My impression was that it was very well built and durable, and it worked great for switching channels and all that. My complaint was it's very straight forward and nothing all that special about it, so I think it's way overpriced. Unfortunately though if you want a footswitch for this amp I'm pretty sure it's that or nothing.
The Sanpera 2 is the way to go!! It is expensive but you get volume control pedal a wahwah pedal and a looper!! Plus over a thousand banks to store your presets also makes the tap delay easier to control
Hi Marc, thank you for the video. I just got a vypyr 3 and tried to use this software, but after connecting the amp to my windows pc, the app (Vypyr_Edit_1_0) does not have any of these features. I am using a USB A-B cable. The sections instrument, stompbox, amp, effect etc do not let me change anything. It is almost as if my amp is not connected 😞 Firmware is 1.61, did not receive any notification to update it. Could you please help me? I am starting to be desperate 🤣
Great tutorial. I don't think the Vypyr edit software is gonna see much love as the Vypyr PRO is newest modelling amp and it's far above what a VIP can do. I would love to have a smartphone app (VOX has one for IOS) because like you said, the knobs can be confusing if you can't remember what each knob does for each stompbox/effect. The manual does list what they change to, but its a pretty long list to memorize.
