He labeled it AS a recording interface, my guy. I think basically what he's saying is you don't necessarily need a full blown mixer if you're doing everything digital anyhow. It serves the same purpose as the input section of a mixer: mic, line, phantom power, gain control.

  • @alansolorio3463
    @alansolorio3463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +52

I think that $2000 is a extremely high and expensive price.
    You could use
    Behringer umc22 $50 aprox
    Audacity DAW (free)
    Addictive Drums ($149.95)
Bass: depends if a real bass, digital or simulated one (i use a guitar with tone at minimum, bass at max, treble and mid at minimum. It does a pretty good job for metal)
    BIAS FX ($79-179)
Microphone. There are cheaper options that might aswell give a decent sound quality that the one in the video (even Stevie said it in the video) but we are going to leave the one in the video ($299.99)
    Arturio Midi (199.99)
So after all you can get it all from 778.95 to 878.95. In my opinion this is more reasonable. Anyway you can do what you want. Is your money and i cannot tell you what to do with it but i hope this is useful for someone.
PD: i shouldn't be telling you this but if you use piracy you could get you total balance WAAAAAAAY down. But piracy is not ok.

      It most definitely is not.
A friend of mine got the mk2 a few months ago and it sucks compared to my Focusrite 2i2.
It's cheaper quality made and it starts to have audio glitches when used over a longer period of time.
The button for Phantom Power is a switch on the back of the interface, which is totally awkward to reach.
Also it's not as professional-oriented designed as the Focusrite.
You have no switch for monitoring, you just have a dial that goes between monitor and DI feed.
The Steinberg has one red clipping indicator.
The Focusrite has dynamic volume indicators, green, orange and red for clipping.
On the Focusrite you can turn monitoring on or off AND control the monitor and headphone volume seperately. It's far superior to the cheap black box that the Steinberg is.

There are lots of free software options out there like Kuassa Amplification Lite(free amp sim and cab impulse player), Dead Duck plugin bundle, even Tracktion has its own totaly free version, and Cakewalk Bandlab of course. There are free vst bass, free vst drums and free vst synth options. You don't have to spend money on software when you're a beginner.

Another great DAW that's only $99 is Cubase Elements. One of the oldest DAWs and the "full" version is used in countless pro studios around the world but the Elements version is more than enough to make a real album with. Comes with a lot of great synths and studio effects.
Edit: Also, whether it was the intention or not, I wouldn't really take this video too seriously if I was about to start producing music for the first time. Like for example, if you're just going to make instrumental music you obviously don't need a mic and if you're going to make metal then you should get some amp plugins that are known for their good hi-gain tones. Also, headphones are completely viable for recording and mixing as long as you get a decent pair ($150 is more than enough). Especially since you can always just export the track as wav (or mp3) and listen to it in your car or home stereo to check what it sounds like on those systems.

Yamaha monitors all day, you'll easily bust $2000 with this add on to Stevie's list but the performance you get is worth and extra $400-$500. Otherwise this is an excellent guide to building a home studio. After you get it all setup, do some recordings and learn all the ins and outs of your hardware/software you'll see where you need to upgrade your setup down the road. Again this is an awesome setup guide! Thanks for the idea and Rock On!!!👊✌🤘👍

man crazy to see how much times have changed in 5 years figure to record a song all i use is cakewalk drums with power2 plugin which are all free, and the nux mighty mini amp for guitar and bass and then just a mid ranged $50 ryzer microphone so like $150 for decent stuff that can make a song.

Instead of the shirt, with that extra $45 my personal suggestion would be grabbing an xlr cable to hook the mic to the interface, and a cheap pair of monitoring headphones to be able to listen to the track whilst recording vocals without having the monitor speakers bleeding the music into your vocal track. All in all though, fantastic video.
