A ship sinks, 20 survivors are in the water.
Daddy shark and his son, baby shark come by.
Daddy shark says " follow my lead son, we'll swim around them a few times just showing our fin on the water"
Baby shark says " why do we do that daddy?, why not just eat them straight away?"
Daddy shark says
" they taste better when you scare the shit out of them first"
Oh thats really good. I'm taking it.

Mom now doesn't think anymore about sharks....has a lot of new fears to worry about ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha, you got that joke.

Sharks are lovely. I often see them helping the elderly cross the street and doing volunteer work for charities.
Ha, good one.

I’ve been thinking what new content Alec should do (I have never scuba dived in my life) and covering safety tips/generally info on sea creatures + scuba is a great one
That's an idea. Will tell Kevin to add it to our ideas list for future subjects.

The number one question I get when people find out I scuba dive is “aren’t you afraid of sharks?!” My response is “heck no! I swim towards them!”
People also often ask me if I find pirate treasure 🤷♂️.
I love seeing sharks. Paid a LOT of money to see them in the Galapagos.
A
I look forward to seeing sharks while I dive in the Caribbean. Usually they are uninterested in me and swim away quickly.
Makes a great log book entry and stories at the bar.
A
I have dove many times in south florida and bahamas with great hammerheads, tigers, bulls, lemons, reefsharks and many others and have never experienced or seen any incident. i love them sharks.
Me too! I can easily see a sharp, but a tiny nudi, no way.

A guy that used to own our local dive store told me once that he had several students getting their OW certification say they be very scared if they ever saw a shark. He went on to say that these students would be the same ones that when they saw a shark on a dive would be the first ones trying to swim after them to get a better look 😂
That sounds true. What they say on the surface is gone at the first sight of a wonder shark going by.

Hey Alec, love your content! Agreed, sharks are definitely a non-issue on rec dives.
Spearfishing certainly ups your chances of a... less peaceful encounter. I've had my fair share of close calls. The shark never wants to attack people, it always wants the fish! There are lots of interesting techniques spearfishers use to reduce their risk, like moving spots if you have an encounter, using float bags, ect. It might make a good video for your series, I know I would be interested to see another perspective!
Like my method is to tie my fish bag/ring on the end of my spear on the ascent so if there was a sudden bite it would be a bit further away from my important bits. But I've definitely gotten caught off guard before I've been able to do that, unable to untangle the fish bag off my chest due to all the hanging gear we pile on. In that case I feel like being a bit aggressive, swimming at the shark and poking it usually spooks it away. I usually try and shake the shark before the ascent, you just feel so vulnerable from so many sides. There is a terrifying, but fun psychological element to it.
Thats a lot of smart ideas. Thanks for sharing with everyone.

Loved this topic. I've told similar stories and similar statistics for the past 25 years but people refuse to believe what I'm telling them. Galapagos, Cocos, and Socorro Islands are my favorite places to dive and I'm going for the sharks and non-divers can't believe I won't be in a cage and won't be afraid. I've come to hate Shark Week on Discovery because they sensationalize shark behavior as 100% dangerous because that's what gets them the views but it reinforces the fear people have.
I guess it sells TV ads but makes us stupid and paranoid. Love seeing sharks.

Still, „Jaws“ was a cool movie 😂 saying so after having had quite some encounters with oceanic white tips in Red Sea - it’s all about your behaviour, guides will tell you
I loved Jaws the movie when it came out. I laughed at the wrong places as the poor shark was so badly portrayed.

@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter „You‘re gonna need a bigger boat.“ A gemstone 😂
@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter fun movie at the time but shark's paid a heavy price for many year's
When you enter the ocean, you enter a food food chain. And not necessarily on the top.
Sharks is the Apex predator. As long you understand that and use common sense , you'll be fine.
Snapping turtles in Muskoka worries me a lot more than any shark. Those ones are mean MF's 😂😂
Snapping turtles are more dangerous than sharks. People get mixed up by the media. We are invading their space. What would people say if a shark came up to their door? Looks like I got folks stirred up on this subject.
A
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter As any wildlife go, you just have to be mindful of simple things and you'll be fine.
When I dove in Cozumel I only saw nurse sharks.
They are cool to watch also.
A
IDK. I can watch shark attack videos non stop on YT so it must happen more than you are saying. I was told by a spear fisherman that you are more likely to get attacked if you are on the surface. Still just one of the things that keeps me out of the ocean.
Those YT shark movies don't scare me as much as the YT bad driver videos. Those crazy drivers are all around me every day on the road.
A
Great perspective...those, like myself, who dive with sharks often know the rules. They are incredibly intelligent whereas it's still debatable if humans are smarter:).
I bet sharks are smarter, been around a million years and the way humans are going, will be here long after us.
A
Yea but study was taking into consideration all the people on the planet. I want to see study taking into consideration only divers ;-)
The biggest killer on earth is.... mosquitos! Good thing they don't dive.
A
Be careful not to make any distructing or frantic movement in the water to caught their attention and dont bleed yourself in the water keep safe always have a knife😅
You must have a giant dive knife. If only to accidentally cut your dive buddy....
A
It is the shark that should be afraid of humans
Very true. Look at how many sharks killed for just fins.
A
even without sharks, the danger is the human itself, there is much more death and injuries by war and other humanity aberrations than by the intervention of wild and domestic animals.
excellent topic
excellent video
Thank you. Funny how no one really cares that cows kill more than sharks.

I seen alot some sort shark is not that thea yre not dangerous , i seen diver as nomal person vidioclips that walked down a river boat slip points in africa and zwoop the most extrem was that where the crocodil left only the hand with divingcomputer , rest was gone , in africa a women washing someging on the beach , the shad apeart in lower 3 second alike a seal s she had no chance to flee , baby withe sharks that bite in tourist feet also Africa coast.... Not that they are all like that but..
It can be a dangerous place being near water in Africa. I did a scuba and safari trip there in 2019 (check out my videos). Amazing wildlife but also lots a dangers in the water, hippos & gators.
