Poor Rodney. His dive partner, Brett Gilliam, was bad to the bone. It just amazes me how brave some people are. He held on to Rodney while two sharks drug him into the depths of the ocean while eating him alive. He saw his friends flesh hanging and still held him until he was dead. That’s beyond brave.

@@skinnybub5237 Great White Sharks are scary and dangerous, but they are usually not that dangerous. If you ask people who dive with sharks, what kind of sharks are scary, some will say oceanic white tip, as things are already bad if you see them shallow enough to where you dive. That's already out of the ordinary. Second thing is they are like pitbulls, they are NOT afraid of you. They are open water, først to go in on live prey from shipwrecks, they give less fuxks than even bull or tiger sharks! Even long time professional divers keep an eye out for them, as if they decide to attack, you're not surviving, they're used to eat stuff that don't belong, they will NOT bite and let you go if they hit leg, man, they LOVE the taste of human!
@@skinnybub5237 white sharks look creepier, but realistically, both are very bad news, but the oceanic will just like a tiger or bull start feeding on you right away, and won't worry about ending you, it just eats! Given it's an open water shark, or open ocean shark, it's used to little food, and also WILL EAT ANYTHING that is alive or not, made of meat, as long as it can get to it! It's the shark that starts feeding first ALWAYS!
Remember sitting on the edge of the ocean in Clear water beach Florida ,feeling the terrific pull and draw back of the waves and thinking about the sheer power of the ocean and also about "JAWS"No way would I get in for a swim,that film really put me off ocean swimming for life!.

For Rodney to motion to his buddy not to even worry about trying to save him is just amazing to me! To have the courage to face death like that really shows Rodneys character. I would be in such panic and fear that id do ANYTHING to stay alive

@Luciphene weird. I know an exact but reverse story. A girl I don't know that loved sharks got her leg ate off by a shark. Her friends were able to save her. Today she enjoys an occasional bowl of shark fin soup and thinks about her lost leg.
First time I seen a shark was while swimming with my Dad in Somalia. It was a gorgeous day, the water was so clear I could see my brother trying sneak up on me like he always did. I remember climbing on to my dad’s shoulders, getting ready to execute my own counter attack. As I was about to do my best Kamikaze impression, my dad reached down and yanked my brother right out of the water. Something moving real fast brushed by us, it was huge. My dad started shouting, and panic ensued but for some reason I couldn’t hear anything. I watched as it bit a 13yr old boy right in half, turn back around, swam right by us again with the boy’s lower half. I will never forget that image, or the screams of that child’s mother. That was the last time I swam in an ocean.

I got talked into going skinny dipping with a girl I met and her three friends. I had a bad feeling and I also had my Alaskan Malamute Thorn with me. He wouldn't come in the water and seemed to be scanning the water. The girls peeled down and it was quite a sight. They called for me to come in and I foolishly did. They were making a ton of splashing and giggling and knowing that attracted sharks I told them to chill. There was a big splash and my dog jumped back out of 10 inches of water he was in. He retreated up the dunes and as I ran through the surf to catch up a bull shark came shooting at me in very shallow water. I it submerged and I jumped. I could see it's teeth but it missed and I got away. The girls disappeared and I started thinking they got hit. Luckily they were up the beach smoking pot and all was well but I'll never go against my instincts again.
I don't want to hear any claim about the only thing useful about them is a nice shark skin jacket or abrasive material for jewelry... I really hope they kill them all as well as crocodiles and alligators...
@@billmichailidis Don't agree as long as you're not stupid and put yourself at risk in their environment you should be cool. All those species you listed serve a duty in nature, without them there would be a lot of problems in the environment. The world just doesn't belong only to humans.
I'm sorry I haven't commented sooner. I wanted you to know that I've seen many of your videos and I think they're absolutely fantastic. You are a phenomenal storyteller that is interested in providing the real deal truth no matter how it looks and I really appreciate that. Anyway just wanted to thank you and while I'm sure you've heard this from other people, you really are doing a phenomenal job. I've documented over a thousand fishing trips out in the ocean including 56 trips to the Hudson canyon which is over 80 nautical miles off the coast of Long Island New York. I am definitely way more afraid of those sharks than they are of me 🤣.
Back in elementary school I used to rush right to the shark book section. Went to school for marine science but ended up changing to Psych. Love this channel (also just found it today so I’m now bingeing vids). Great content :)
Hal, love your videos...I think I've seen them all! I'm familiar with the Rodney Temple / Brett Gillam attack in St. Croix. Not sure where you read about this but you should probably re-read or consider compairing to a different source. Believe the three came from shore and were at about 220' on the bottom. Rob's air was low so Brett sent him up. That's when the sharks showed up. Brett and Rod both hung out on the floor for a few minutes. After a few minutes Brett realized that his air was getting close to what he would need to safely surface and began his ascent and safe stopped at around 180'. Rod stayed on the floor to wait out the Oceanic White Tips. All three men had duals. It was from that vantage point that Brett noticed Rod was in a cloud of stirred up silt on the floor. He went back down to see what was going on and realized the attack was on. As he tried to pull Rod upward from the cloud toward the surface was when the tug of war began. Eventually, the sharks drug Rod with Brett hanging onto him over the ledge and down they went. Brett found a ledge on the cliff but had been checking his depth throughout. Gauge was pegged the entire time...happens at 325'. Brett guessed he was at about 400' when the sharks ran off with Rod. He did do a straight shot and actually passed out about 30' from the surface, but the air in his BC had expanded enough under the lower pressure that it carried him to the surface where he was able to gasp and fill his lungs. He made it to shore and ran into a couple who happened to be a doctor and nurse. He explained quickly what had happened and told them where his truck was and that there were instructions in it for dealing with narcosis. The couple got ahold of the University Brett was working for who in turn notified medi-vac. St. Croix had no chamber. They headed, I believe, to Puerto Rico but mid flight they learned the hyperbaric chamber was already in use. I believe the medi-vac doctor was a student that Brett knew well. They ran out of Oxygen enroute and ended up landing on a 4 lane highway where Brett was transferred to a COAST GUARD helicopter. He spent a couple days in a chamber hours further than the original occupied chamber. He had to borrow clothes to get home. On his taxi ride from the airport to his home he saw a huge gatherinv at a local pub, parking lot full on a Monday midday, so he had the taxi drop him off there knowing that with a crowd that large he would ceryainly know several people and would catch a ride with someone the rest of the way home. He walked inside to a memorial service for him. They thought the sharks had got him as well. Rob had apparently gone for help and when mo one was there when he returned, he assumed both men had been snacks ***interesting factoid: the prior surface shot record that had been survived was 180'...Brett's surface shot was over twice that. He holds the record still today. Hope that lends some clarity to that particular incident. I may not be 100% correct but nonetheless pretty close.
2 of my main sources both say they were on the floor when they were separated by the shark, or close to it. Is not the first attack that others have different info than the investigators that go out interviewing. Martha Morrell, same situation with different info from some sources than the Global Shark Attack File. It is all they do and I have to have sources I use. They have not been off yet that I see, but other reporting is at times so I leave things out they disagree with. And I also went off the survivors own statements that also are what I reported.....
@@SharksHappen Hal, I tried to find an email for you and couldnt. I just watched a 20 minute +/- video of Brett Gilliam describing the event. It was posted on You Tube about a year ago. He gets quite detailed, it's worth the watch. He made reference at the end to a 90's BBC series that included his experience. I believe that's where my information came from. I watched it 5 or 6 years ago and was so blown away by the fact that he walked into his own memorial service that I must have told 30 or 40 friends about the entire story. That's where by my familiarity with the event comes from. Anyway, the old boy seems to still recall the details consistent to what I remember was on the version I watched (probably the BBC production). It wouldn't be appropriate for me to post a link here but it's an easy enough search if you're interested in what Gilliam recalls. ✌

Again I can't stress this ENOUGH !!! whenever you see an oceanic whitetip shark there is absolutely going to be trouble if you don't get out of the water in time. Also, you will only ever see these sharks in deep ocean water. It is very rare for them to be found near the shoreline.

New sub here..very interesting. I lived in Florida for five years. Was at the beach several times a week. We lived within a mile of it. Crazy, never really thought about being attacked. This was between 1974 and 1979....my daughter now resides in Riverview. We go to the beach up and down the east side of Florida’s peninsula, now I’ve started to be scared of being in the water....I go out chest deep and literally float for like, three hours, at a time, daydreaming, with a small board or float....now that I’ve watched these videos....don’t think I will be doing that...and I love the ocean....🌸😔
Hate it that when after an attack you hear about idiots going out and hunting for the shark. I mean how the hell can anyone know which shark did it? If you decide to swim in the sea you run the risk of encountering sharks and if you get bitten it's tough luck.
I have read about I think Australia catching 10 tigers and 10 of something else but didnt find any remains of the latest attack and claim the catching was for a study of something. I will post it in the community area if I run across it again, because it is fairly recent. I thought we were past revenge for attacks, but it seems many still want it. Usually not the victims tho.
I love this Sharks Happen . So glad I found it. This is the true stories I like the read about with Deadly Shark encounters even if it's not deadly but it's real. The ocean is to be respected and sharks are to be feared for they are Apex predators and not too mention man eaters. I hate and just shake my head in utter frustration when I hear folks talk that crap about how peaceful these predators are and we should not fear them bull crap. Fear them and always remember when your ass in that ocean your in their territory. Remember that!!
I met Brett Gillian at a Dema show . Bernie Chowdhury and myself had a meeting with him . He made an offer to buy the Divig magazine I worked for ( Immersed) . This is the first time I heard this story .
This happened in my home town (Lanikai, Oahu) before I was born, but around here the story of Billy Weaver losing his legs to a tiger Shark is pretty famous. It happened in between the Mokulua islands in Lanikai in 1958. You may have covered that story already tho.
Abalone diving and then spear fishing in waters that great white sharks frequent, that's like crossing a six lane highway blindfolded when it's full of traffic. I sometimes struggle to comprehend the sanity of some people.

I’ve never used S.C.U.B.A’s, but I snorkel off La Jolla, Ca. whenever I leave the U.S. to vacation. I used to live there and it’s such a beautiful world beneath those waves. I recently listened to one of your videos and La Jolla was one of the areas featured. There are a lot of blues out in the kelp forest and they always appear to ignore me. I’ve also seen a huge amount of other marine life in the kelp beds and in the lagoon. THEN I watched another Sharks Happen and one of the incidents was in La Jolla… Great. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and the manner in which you present them. Bravo, Hal. Bravo. 👏
It will be interesting to see numbers of attacks in all activities. I need to get shows done to get the database over 1000 attacks and some things should start to stand out. Spear fishing and abalone diving probably seem to be much worse than swimming but we will know eventually where everything stands
What I’ve gathered from faithfully watching this knowledgeable show on shark behaviour. If you have a friend named Rodney , Do NOT let him go in the ocean. Something about Rodney’s, the sharks really like.

I have the same fascination (although not enough to keep me out of the water) and think I may have had the same attack file book in the 90s - did it have a tear open section in the middle "protecting" the graphic attack photos? - I agree with you completely - "removed meat" :0 Also, I was thinking about what you said about so any people being lifted out of the water by White sharks. Do you think that maybe it's from the inertia of such a large animal coming at the person from underneath? Perhaps a Bull isn't big enough, but a 4-5m White shark must weigh a couple of tonnes... (PS - is it just my confirmation bias, or do a disproportionately large number of Rodneys get hit? I'd be interested to see what percentage of attackees have that name...)
Back around 1996, a work acquaintance had invited me and another co-worker to go wade fishing after work in Texas City, Texas. I had never done any salt water wade fishing before, but it sounded like fun. The 3 of us spread out from shore about 50 yards. We were catching fish and would attach them to long stringers tethered to us. About an hour into fishing, the fellow who joined along same as me was being dragged through the water screaming. Not knowing what was going on, I yelled at the other fellow who was beating it back to shore as fast as he could move. He just yelled back "it's a shark, get out of the water". Just as quick, the guy that was being pulled along in the water was suddenly free, stood up in chest deep water and we both started beating it back to shore. Once back on shore, it was obvious something had taken his stringer of fish. Unfortunately, he had secured the stringer around his waste instead of tying it to his belt loop which would have allowed the stringer to tear free if grabbed. At least for myself and the guy dragged through the water, that was our one and only wade fishing experience.

@@cathyrutherford5238 , I was down on the West Coast of FL in August of 1982 visiting a friend, and we went to a Sarasota beach one day. One of the big draws for the beach was that you could find shark teeth just walking the beach. I found several sanddollars, and it was my first time seeing live ones, but I don't remember picking up any shark teeth. I remember seeing a couple of Mako ones, and my friend had said that it was basically a Mako nursery off shore at that time. Very few people went in the water, and those of us who did didn't go past our knees. It was weird, because it was about 93°F, and very high humidity. Water was murky, too.
I'm beginning to not believe in "test bites". I think like when that guy beat on it after it ran him into his board it let him go but would have come back if he had just laid there bleeding. The only thing that saved him was that he hustled to the boat. I think they're too damn equipped with good eye site and honing skills not to know we're not seals.

I saw Jaws several times in the theatre in 75 also when I was a young kid. I'll admit even though I lived in Minnesota after seeing that movie I felt very uneasy swimming at our public beach.
Great stories, and narration!! Certainly the best shark attack storytelling!! A big fan and had a shark swim between me and my granddaughter, no more than 10 feet apart, off Vero Beach, FL, in front of the Driftwood Inn Resort. Sharks are there every day, a fact!!

Good Reporting but it's amazing how humans feel they can do anything they want on land or in the seas with no consequences. The lady and her fiance was tragic especially if its 3ft of water.
This is hands down my new favorite channel! Great work. The last attack there was so much damage done? Bull or Bronzy i would guess. I saw a clip of a seal on some very shallow rocks that got hit by a BronzeWhaler. I dunno if you have ever seen it but its beyond savage, 5seconds? And its a total bloodbath,the shark wasnt even in the water. I like how you skip to shots of scenes while storytelling, really nice clear shots. P.S cool shirt👍
That's. Bulk , only bulls will keep coming back and biting , whites usually hit and release once they fig out it's not a normal prey item , tigers and bull will keep coming back , but there's no tigers in that area do leaves a bull or whitetip but they are deep ocean shark so gotta be bull
Hal, I was born and raised in the lower Keys. They cover up MANY things going on down there, I'm certain they cover up shark attacks too. I was obsessed with sharks growing up but because of the way they taught us down there I was completely naive of the danger I was in snorkeling in my backyard by myself almost daily as young as 8 years old onward. There is no way I should have been able to do that.
I don't see the reasoning for trying to catch a shark to see if there are any human parts in it's belly. I mean, what are they going to do w/ any body parts anyway??? And then there's is the fact that other innocent sharks are killed in the process, which I find illogical. Sharks are a necessity in our oceans. Its the humans that need to be aware of their surroundings. The oceans belong to the sharks and its their territory. Sharks should not be killed for doing what they naturally do.More or less we know the nature ofsharks. Respect the shark.
Some still are under the belief that once a shark attacks someone it gets the taste for humans. A ridiculously old thought that never disappeared completely.
They don’t really like the taste of humans and often spit them out, but by then the damage could be so severe you are a goner. Wetsuits make us look like seals to them. Their eyesight is not great as they rely upon their sense of smell

I'm 53 yrs old and love all watersports. But, I have not body surfed, or swam in the ocean since Jaws came out.

For Rodney to motion to his buddy not to even worry about trying to save him is just amazing to me! To have the courage to face death like that really shows Rodneys character. I would be in such panic and fear that id do ANYTHING to stay alive
I agree but maybe from so much bites and blood loss he was so weak and drifting off in shock,probably realized he was done ,especially that deep in water

Definitely amazing. We never know how we’d react in the face of death. Rodney was very courageous and selfless in the end it seems. May he Rest In Peace :( how sad
I think at some point you’d realise there is no chance for you to survive so better off having your friend(s) save themselves.

@Luciphene weird. I know an exact but reverse story. A girl I don't know that loved sharks got her leg ate off by a shark. Her friends were able to save her. Today she enjoys an occasional bowl of shark fin soup and thinks about her lost leg.

First time I seen a shark was while swimming with my Dad in Somalia. It was a gorgeous day, the water was so clear I could see my brother trying sneak up on me like he always did. I remember climbing on to my dad’s shoulders, getting ready to execute my own counter attack. As I was about to do my best Kamikaze impression, my dad reached down and yanked my brother right out of the water. Something moving real fast brushed by us, it was huge. My dad started shouting, and panic ensued but for some reason I couldn’t hear anything. I watched as it bit a 13yr old boy right in half, turn back around, swam right by us again with the boy’s lower half. I will never forget that image, or the screams of that child’s mother. That was the last time I swam in an ocean.

I found your channel randomly last week and I just wanted to say I really enjoy the way you tell these stories and provide information on the attacks!
I got talked into going skinny dipping with a girl I met and her three friends. I had a bad feeling and I also had my Alaskan Malamute Thorn with me. He wouldn't come in the water and seemed to be scanning the water. The girls peeled down and it was quite a sight. They called for me to come in and I foolishly did. They were making a ton of splashing and giggling and knowing that attracted sharks I told them to chill. There was a big splash and my dog jumped back out of 10 inches of water he was in. He retreated up the dunes and as I ran through the surf to catch up a bull shark came shooting at me in very shallow water. I it submerged and I jumped. I could see it's teeth but it missed and I got away. The girls disappeared and I started thinking they got hit. Luckily they were up the beach smoking pot and all was well but I'll never go against my instincts again.
Yeah, no kidding. That bad feeling was a feeling from your guardian angel warning you something bad was about to happen.
I don't want to hear any claim about the only thing useful about them is a nice shark skin jacket or abrasive material for jewelry... I really hope they kill them all as well as crocodiles and alligators...

I've documented over a thousand fishing trips out in the ocean including 56 trips to the Hudson canyon which is over 80 nautical miles off the coast of Long Island New York. I am definitely way more afraid of those sharks than they are of me 🤣.
Back in elementary school I used to rush right to the shark book section. Went to school for marine science but ended up changing to Psych. Love this channel (also just found it today so I’m now bingeing vids). Great content :)

Hal, love your videos...I think I've seen them all! I'm familiar with the Rodney Temple / Brett Gillam attack in St. Croix. Not sure where you read about this but you should probably re-read or consider compairing to a different source. Believe the three came from shore and were at about 220' on the bottom. Rob's air was low so Brett sent him up. That's when the sharks showed up. Brett and Rod both hung out on the floor for a few minutes. After a few minutes Brett realized that his air was getting close to what he would need to safely surface and began his ascent and safe stopped at around 180'. Rod stayed on the floor to wait out the Oceanic White Tips. All three men had duals. It was from that vantage point that Brett noticed Rod was in a cloud of stirred up silt on the floor. He went back down to see what was going on and realized the attack was on. As he tried to pull Rod upward from the cloud toward the surface was when the tug of war began. Eventually, the sharks drug Rod with Brett hanging onto him over the ledge and down they went. Brett found a ledge on the cliff but had been checking his depth throughout. Gauge was pegged the entire time...happens at 325'. Brett guessed he was at about 400' when the sharks ran off with Rod. He did do a straight shot and actually passed out about 30' from the surface, but the air in his BC had expanded enough under the lower pressure that it carried him to the surface where he was able to gasp and fill his lungs. He made it to shore and ran into a couple who happened to be a doctor and nurse. He explained quickly what had happened and told them where his truck was and that there were instructions in it for dealing with narcosis. The couple got ahold of the University Brett was working for who in turn notified medi-vac. St. Croix had no chamber. They headed, I believe, to Puerto Rico but mid flight they learned the hyperbaric chamber was already in use. I believe the medi-vac doctor was a student that Brett knew well. They ran out of Oxygen enroute and ended up landing on a 4 lane highway where Brett was transferred to a COAST GUARD helicopter. He spent a couple days in a chamber hours further than the original occupied chamber. He had to borrow clothes to get home. On his taxi ride from the airport to his home he saw a huge gatherinv at a local pub, parking lot full on a Monday midday, so he had the taxi drop him off there knowing that with a crowd that large he would ceryainly know several people and would catch a ride with someone the rest of the way home. He walked inside to a memorial service for him. They thought the sharks had got him as well. Rob had apparently gone for help and when mo one was there when he returned, he assumed both men had been snacks ***interesting factoid: the prior surface shot record that had been survived was 180'...Brett's surface shot was over twice that. He holds the record still today. Hope that lends some clarity to that particular incident. I may not be 100% correct but nonetheless pretty close.
2 of my main sources both say they were on the floor when they were separated by the shark, or close to it. Is not the first attack that others have different info than the investigators that go out interviewing. Martha Morrell, same situation with different info from some sources than the Global Shark Attack File. It is all they do and I have to have sources I use. They have not been off yet that I see, but other reporting is at times so I leave things out they disagree with. And I also went off the survivors own statements that also are what I reported.....

@@SharksHappen Hal, I tried to find an email for you and couldnt. I just watched a 20 minute +/- video of Brett Gilliam describing the event. It was posted on You Tube about a year ago. He gets quite detailed, it's worth the watch. He made reference at the end to a 90's BBC series that included his experience. I believe that's where my information came from. I watched it 5 or 6 years ago and was so blown away by the fact that he walked into his own memorial service that I must have told 30 or 40 friends about the entire story. That's where by my familiarity with the event comes from. Anyway, the old boy seems to still recall the details consistent to what I remember was on the version I watched (probably the BBC production). It wouldn't be appropriate for me to post a link here but it's an easy enough search if you're interested in what Gilliam recalls. ✌

I go in the water; but only in swimming pools. I haven't seen the first shark in the swimming pools I swim in.

Again I can't stress this ENOUGH !!! whenever you see an oceanic whitetip shark there is absolutely going to be trouble if you don't get out of the water in time. Also, you will only ever see these sharks in deep ocean water. It is very rare for them to be found near the shoreline.

New sub here..very interesting. I lived in Florida for five years. Was at the beach several times a week. We lived within a mile of it. Crazy, never really thought about being attacked. This was between 1974 and 1979....my daughter now resides in Riverview. We go to the beach up and down the east side of Florida’s peninsula, now I’ve started to be scared of being in the water....I go out chest deep and literally float for like, three hours, at a time, daydreaming, with a small board or float....now that I’ve watched these videos....don’t think I will be doing that...and I love the ocean....🌸😔

Hate it that when after an attack you hear about idiots going out and hunting for the shark. I mean how the hell can anyone know which shark did it? If you decide to swim in the sea you run the risk of encountering sharks and if you get bitten it's tough luck.
I have read about I think Australia catching 10 tigers and 10 of something else but didnt find any remains of the latest attack and claim the catching was for a study of something. I will post it in the community area if I run across it again, because it is fairly recent. I thought we were past revenge for attacks, but it seems many still want it. Usually not the victims tho.

I love this Sharks Happen . So glad I found it. This is the true stories I like the read about with Deadly Shark encounters even if it's not deadly but it's real. The ocean is to be respected and sharks are to be feared for they are Apex predators and not too mention man eaters. I hate and just shake my head in utter frustration when I hear folks talk that crap about how peaceful these predators are and we should not fear them bull crap. Fear them and always remember when your ass in that ocean your in their territory. Remember that!!

I met Brett Gillian at a Dema show . Bernie Chowdhury and myself had a meeting with him . He made an offer to buy the Divig magazine I worked for ( Immersed) . This is the first time I heard this story .

This happened in my home town (Lanikai, Oahu) before I was born, but around here the story of Billy Weaver losing his legs to a tiger Shark is pretty famous. It happened in between the Mokulua islands in Lanikai in 1958. You may have covered that story already tho.
Abalone diving and then spear fishing in waters that great white sharks frequent, that's like crossing a six lane highway blindfolded when it's full of traffic. I sometimes struggle to comprehend the sanity of some people.
To abalone dive without a mobile cage is insane. Someone was attacked while in one of those cages and it probably saved their life.

I’ve never used S.C.U.B.A’s, but I snorkel off La Jolla, Ca. whenever I leave the U.S. to vacation. I used to live there and it’s such a beautiful world beneath those waves.
I recently listened to one of your videos and La Jolla was one of the areas featured. There are a lot of blues out in the kelp forest and they always appear to ignore me. I’ve also seen a huge amount of other marine life in the kelp beds and in the lagoon.
THEN I watched another Sharks Happen and one of the incidents was in La Jolla…

It will be interesting to see numbers of attacks in all activities. I need to get shows done to get the database over 1000 attacks and some things should start to stand out. Spear fishing and abalone diving probably seem to be much worse than swimming but we will know eventually where everything stands

I have the same fascination (although not enough to keep me out of the water) and think I may have had the same attack file book in the 90s - did it have a tear open section in the middle "protecting" the graphic attack photos? - I agree with you completely - "removed meat" :0
Also, I was thinking about what you said about so any people being lifted out of the water by White sharks. Do you think that maybe it's from the inertia of such a large animal coming at the person from underneath? Perhaps a Bull isn't big enough, but a 4-5m White shark must weigh a couple of tonnes...
(PS - is it just my confirmation bias, or do a disproportionately large number of Rodneys get hit? I'd be interested to see what percentage of attackees have that name...)
Back around 1996, a work acquaintance had invited me and another co-worker to go wade fishing after work in Texas City, Texas. I had never done any salt water wade fishing before, but it sounded like fun. The 3 of us spread out from shore about 50 yards. We were catching fish and would attach them to long stringers tethered to us. About an hour into fishing, the fellow who joined along same as me was being dragged through the water screaming. Not knowing what was going on, I yelled at the other fellow who was beating it back to shore as fast as he could move. He just yelled back "it's a shark, get out of the water". Just as quick, the guy that was being pulled along in the water was suddenly free, stood up in chest deep water and we both started beating it back to shore.
Once back on shore, it was obvious something had taken his stringer of fish. Unfortunately, he had secured the stringer around his waste instead of tying it to his belt loop which would have allowed the stringer to tear free if grabbed. At least for myself and the guy dragged through the water, that was our one and only wade fishing experience.
Damn. Is like leashes on surfboards. If they didnt break it would be a drowning for sure

@@cathyrutherford5238 , I was down on the West Coast of FL in August of 1982 visiting a friend, and we went to a Sarasota beach one day. One of the big draws for the beach was that you could find shark teeth just walking the beach. I found several sanddollars, and it was my first time seeing live ones, but I don't remember picking up any shark teeth. I remember seeing a couple of Mako ones, and my friend had said that it was basically a Mako nursery off shore at that time. Very few people went in the water, and those of us who did didn't go past our knees. It was weird, because it was about 93°F, and very high humidity. Water was murky, too.

I'm beginning to not believe in "test bites". I think like when that guy beat on it after it ran him into his board it let him go but would have come back if he had just laid there bleeding. The only thing that saved him was that he hustled to the boat. I think they're too damn equipped with good eye site and honing skills not to know we're not seals.
No they do happen. We will get to some. The ones we have covered, a couple were very gentle and a couple were hit hard but still test...ish
I’ve seen sharks taken out of the ocean in San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz California there you go I don’t go in the ocean anymore since 1975 and I was at the movies watching Jaws that is the scariest movie I have ever seen it got me worse than psycho
I saw Jaws several times in the theatre in 75 also when I was a young kid. I'll admit even though I lived in Minnesota after seeing that movie I felt very uneasy swimming at our public beach.

Great stories, and narration!! Certainly the best shark attack storytelling!! A big fan and had a shark swim between me and my granddaughter, no more than 10 feet apart, off Vero Beach, FL, in front of the Driftwood Inn Resort. Sharks are there every day, a fact!!

Good Reporting but it's amazing how humans feel they can do anything they want on land or in the seas with no consequences. The lady and her fiance was tragic especially if its 3ft of water.

This is hands down my new favorite channel! Great work. The last attack there was so much damage done? Bull or Bronzy i would guess. I saw a clip of a seal on some very shallow rocks that got hit by a BronzeWhaler. I dunno if you have ever seen it but its beyond savage, 5seconds? And its a total bloodbath,the shark wasnt even in the water. I like how you skip to shots of scenes while storytelling, really nice clear shots. P.S cool shirt👍

That's. Bulk , only bulls will keep coming back and biting , whites usually hit and release once they fig out it's not a normal prey item , tigers and bull will keep coming back , but there's no tigers in that area do leaves a bull or whitetip but they are deep ocean shark so gotta be bull
Hal, I was born and raised in the lower Keys. They cover up MANY things going on down there, I'm certain they cover up shark attacks too. I was obsessed with sharks growing up but because of the way they taught us down there I was completely naive of the danger I was in snorkeling in my backyard by myself almost daily as young as 8 years old onward. There is no way I should have been able to do that.
I don't see the reasoning for trying to catch a shark to see if there are any human parts in it's belly. I mean, what are they going to do w/ any body parts anyway??? And then there's is the fact that other innocent sharks are killed in the process, which I find illogical. Sharks are a necessity in our oceans. Its the humans that need to be aware of their surroundings. The oceans belong to the sharks and its their territory. Sharks should not be killed for doing what they naturally do.More or less we know the nature ofsharks. Respect the shark.
Some still are under the belief that once a shark attacks someone it gets the taste for humans. A ridiculously old thought that never disappeared completely.
They don’t really like the taste of humans and often spit them out, but by then the damage could be so severe you are a goner. Wetsuits make us look like seals to them. Their eyesight is not great as they rely upon their sense of smell
Brett has changed this story many times over the years……..he keeps adding dramatic details.
