    If you want to reduce the stress on the loop of the webbing, bring it to the side (instead of the middle of the tree) where the webbing runs through the loop as directly as possible. If the tree is not too thick, go around the tree twice to give the webbing more friction and keep the loop at the side you want to have it. (The middle of the tree, as you suggest, is not bad at all: like this you'll have the same tension on every part of the webbing, however no reduction of stress on the loop.)

    Instead of extra velcro to keep the tarp on try small coin magnets. They are easy to adjust to get the best results. They are light and non-permanent.

    The Velcro doesn’t go all along the complete sides??? With wind this goes inside for sure and makes it flattering around or not?
    Does this hammock has a space for an isolation sleeping pad or you’d need an underquilt?

    What are your thoughts on the DD Travel and Frontline vs. the Jungle? Wouldn't a Travel with an overhanging tarp do the trick just as well and provide raincover on ground level in addition? That way you could have your bag underneath the hammock and out of the rain. It seems like the Jungle will lead water around it and straight down on the ground with wet feet as a result next morning. Have you tried both hammocks? Thanks.

    are those DD snake skins? I have my DD camping hammock in hennesy skins and they're just too tight....stuffing is not even possible. at that point. i wish there were a way to modify the camping hammock into the jungle set up. I like how the layers zip on the camping hammock rather than velcro.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't realize the Camping hammock used zippers versus velcro. The velcro aspect of the jungle hammock sucks. But I use both the DD hammock skins as well as hennessy skins. I use the hennessy for my tarp and the dd for my hammock.

    • @graceanne6780
      @graceanne6780 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep! I used the camping hammock in Japan and it was nice to be able to zip myself up inside the two layers for added warmth. It could probably be modified with whoopie rather than the straps it comes with.

      I have a bunch of backpacks. It depends on the trip, the terrain, and what our plans are. What do you anticipate for typical use? I have the Osprey Atmos 65 for longer trips, or even 40 liter packs if I don't need a lot of gear.

    When strapping the tarp with the velcro and it rains, doesnt the water just slide alongside the hammock?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rain rolls over the edge and drips down...it's a double thick and water resistant underside to the hammock. I usually use the tarp over the top regardless.

    Hey there, thanks a lot for your details. Got my DD Jungle today. One plastic fastener of the stuffsack broke instantly after packing all up again. Will ditch the stuffsack as its too small for the hammok + snakeskin + eno underquilt and put it into a drysack. So yeah.. the fasteners and the velcro is a pain in the butt. But overall a great system. Can you tell me which brand is your cloudy camo jacket and where I can find it? Looks sweet! Best regards AJ

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a couple things that are a pain with the DD Jungle hammock, but overall is a WONDERFUL system. It kept me safe in -15 Deg Farenheit two winters ago. And has been comfortable for almost 4 years now with no major damage...silly minor things.
      The shirt is by Propper...it's the "Combat Shirt" in ATACS AU. There are a few colors, but mine is ATACS which I greatly like.
      Hope that helps!!

    Hi how do you think this hold up in a decent amount of wind/rain without the 'super light tarp' that you mentioned? The rain cover doesn't seem to have much hang over the edge of the inner hammock. I'm trying to work out how suitable it would be for monsoon weather in Asia. Thanks.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      my opinion is that it would be good up to a steady rain, or heavy rain without driving wind. the velcro is kind of weak to be honest...it's not the best enclosure method, especially for wind. be careful in the wind with a hammock, especially with blowing trees, it can stretch or snap your system. I've been in serious wind and rain, but definitely needed the tarp to supplement.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome aboard and thanks for the support! Glad you dropped a line! This is by far my most used and favorite shelter system. I bought all the Superlight version of both the hammock system as well as the tarp. My tarp is the 3x3. I used it in horrendous conditions and it kept me safe, dry, and warm(ish) for the given conditions. Over time it will stretch and sag, but you can keep on it with proper tension. Also, I had to eventually water proof it again. I have very very very many of my videos that feature this system as a whole. If you're interersted, let me know and I'll put together a little playlist for you to see my videos featuring this equipment. You will absolutely love it...just treat it carefully as it's expensive and light weight.

      Actually here's the playlist...I made it real quick. I'm heading into the mountains tomorrow for a couple days...this will give you some stuff to watch...haha! Oh, and the Superlight Tarp is my tarp for this trip as well! Thanks again!

    here is from me some add....when i got my DD Jungle hammock i made at home more easy setup option which if you think when you setup it if you don't put mosquito net and rain cover what can be happen? 1-if no rain it is ok but can be mosquito in side till you full setup it..2-if it is rain if no rain cover on until you put rain cover on inside can get wet..
    so i was thinking all..
    i put on floor at my place, add mosquito net..than i put rain cover on..rolled in from both sides and sliced into the sleeve...
    when i go backpacking i will hang to between trees, slice out hammock..and it is ready to put poles and tight...but from that point you can say how about other items can get wet...how about changing clothes for sleep..for all you need another item which is tarp comes...you need large size tarp on top so you can change your clothes under the tarp without getting wet..because you can not do in hammock..not easy

    • @outerlimitless

      @@RuairiMcNicholasIE hello, since your last comment I've contacted dd hammocks and the guy there told me this,
      Thank you for your email.
      I'm afraid that the canopy for the SuperLight Jungle Hammock is not
      compatible with the XL Frontline. I actually tested this myself as these
      hammocks use the same hammock poles, and I thought it might work. It
      seems however that with the extra material/width the XL Frontline causes
      the poles to rest at a different position than the Jungle Hammock, and
      that canopy doesn't quite make it over the top and sides in the same way.
      If there is anything else we can help with please let me know.
      thought this could save you a little room in your pack lol, but as you more than lightly know, some times these things can be made to work, so your are welcome to try for yourself, regards.

      @@fighting3209 Hey mate! Didn't end up bringing the XL Frontline with me but should be bringing it this weekend and will give it a go if I remember to! But I do know the canopy is a perfect fit to the Jungle hammock and uses velcro to attach so probably tricky to get over it. One of their smaller separate tarps might work though...
