SORRY FOR THE DELAY EVERYONE! I ran into some technical issues while attempting to export the video but I guess that's only fitting for the subject matter.
Incase you missed the teaser video, I just want to reiterate some information. The NDA video is still coming! I had to finish this project first just to clear up enough memory on my PC to continue working on the bigger project. As for my recent absence, an unexpected family tragedy occurred which needed my full attention. Things are better now and I’m back to work. I just want to thank you for your continued patience through all this and I assure you it will be worth it.

My favourite thing about the freezer is it sounds like a complete BS creepypasta, a ghost that appears and bricks your game while glitching out of bounds, but it's real.

I had a SR1 disc like it once, every character model was stretched as hell and like John Carpenter's Thing and it would happen in cutscenes too. You also couldn't leave the Saints row district because you'd either crash or fall through the map.

@@Athidius I had this happen before where character is all stretched out while t-posing while stuck in the safe house. I reset my console and it worked lol... I still have the pictures too I took on my shitty phone at the time funny enough.

13:35 This is just because aircrafts share the same class as every other types of vehicles: the "vehicle" class, which mean stuff like paints and mods are shared even if helis/planes don't officially have mods, they still have paint customization. The game just doesn't allow you to customize it, It's just an unintended feature.
Just like in GTA 5, the train can't be customized, but with a trainer, you can enter the locomotive, and apply paint jobs to it ! Again, an unintended feature, just because the Train use the same shared class "vehicle" car, bike etc... use aswell !

I had asked about that and found it so weird how hands off the devs were regarding it but even weirder that it's like everyone gave up on it all at the same time.
Part of me thinks this will be one of those things solved a few years into the future but not by some player but a former worker who'll pop up and go 'Yeah, I forgot about that, it glitched out and we never fixed it.'

Imagine breaking thru the veil to meet your shadow self, but instead upon meeting yourself you crash and glitch out.
The game is tryna figure out where you are in game and due to the game not being to locate you it thinks your in the regular game mode when your in fact still stuck in the zombies mode.
Am not sure why this only happened on the Xbox 360 but it can be update file I would say try doing this without the update file and trying to replicate the glitch.
@@truthseekersthenewomega97 we're not talking about the freezer but in the reboot there's like a trail of clues to find this big secret Easter egg like with the cabbit in SR2 but it hit a standstill and no one seems to care. Devs haven't popped in to say "you guys are so close." Or "there's more you just have to keep at it." Or "ok we effed up the patch patched out the Easter egg."
People just hit a point of "I'm done."
And it'll likely be revealed years later. Hopefully there's something there and we don't get a dev going "ok my NDA is up. There's nothing. They said that it was meant to dawn on players that there's no big pay off, like the cast you did everything you were supposed to do but you don't get a reward for it, but really Taylor didn't make the deadline we were supposed to have patched it in but didn't around to it."

Sr2 and the freezer is a glitch and the devs made a Easter egg about it in The reboot to pay homeage as they see that people still talk about it till this day.
However I am talking about the original and the why this glitch occurs.
Most of the devs of Violation are part of deep silver and pilion which is what THQ And Koch Media Was Renamed.
Koch Media Was the one who owned the licensing for saints row 1 & 2.
I should know I worked with Koch Media.
I still know a lot of Easter eggs that haven't been found or people that talked about it or mention it, but never went full into details or tried looking further into it...

If you want a hint, it's in the malls look around the malls you find hints in saints row 3... 2nd hint the casino has hints, the club, red light district and by the ports. There are couple hints on the in game radio.
Saints row 4 I believe most of Easter eggs have been found, but I do believe some haven't been found.

The Freezer can be seen on the PS3 version (digital at least, not sure about physical), but it does not crash the game. It simply dissappears after a few seconds.
The PS3’s shitty complex architecture was actually a countermeasure to the freezer all along. Thanks Sony!

I was literally yesterday checking if you uploaded the video, im glad after 10 years, we finally get a case closed.
i gotta hand it to you, 10 years later and im still not entirely sure if the entire thing is a very elaborate inside joke or a real thing that happens, all the freezer videos have so many indicators to the whole thing being a joke including this one, and yet they are still serious enough to believe it to be a real thing
the freezer is not a joke, and if you watch through this video fully he explains the most likely theory, to the point that the mystery is unofficially solved.

Honestly, when it comes to glitches and different hardware, it's not THAT uncommon? Something that could be tanked by a newer system causes a crash on an older weaker system.
As for breaking copies themselves, there's certainly a few reasonable explanations at least, and i believe even SR1 had a bug with multiplayer that COULD do so too...
Now what's practically *unbelievable/absurd* in comparison to "old console doesnt like this glitch" is:
The Bard's Tale 3 supports Might and Magic 2 saves. (Keep in mind, these are games made by entirely separate developers, likely without much of a common framework/engine, but somehow the saves are compatible with each other)
(Said games were released in 1988 for reference)
For those that don't know 13:41 is a space marine dreadnought from Warhammer 40k
The disk reads and writes data, so if corrupted data is wrote to the disk it will show up when going to load a game since it needs to pull from memory. A simple 1 or 0 where it’s not supposed to be is all it will take for that check to fail. It could also be overwriting code on the disc similar to a buffer overflow.
Xboxes cannot write to a game disc, only Read.

First off, and as always, appreciate your work and content, always look forward to more. I'm excited to see ya bring this topic back, as it's something I'd been looking into off and on the past while now.
I was curious if anyone had tried finding The Freezer on the Xenia Emulator, so I started looking 'bout 2 months ago trying to find it.
My theory going in was that the 360 would overheat, or run out of memory, and on Emulator I can bypass some of the second and all of the first. Given the engine for this game is explicitly chaotic, a new environment might give some more clues.
While I didn't spot him anywhere in my recording session, I did experience a pretty big spook in that underpass section, the zombie music started playing, my frames started dropping, but nothing happened after getting high enough out of there. I'm pretty sure when you're low enough and are in specific areas, it loads the zombie section in some manner, causing freezes on certain consoles. For me, it was like it had enough resources to load the level, but couldn't crash. Very interesting.
Really think it's worth exploring emulator using separate versions and regions with different settings, it's less about these "found footage" searches and random spottings, but instead about discovering more and getting something to easily replicate. Knowing the root cause helps the most in documenting something. All we really seem to have is that it's disc/360 exclusive, I'm trying to see if it's possible that's somewhere more accessible and likely easier to replicate.
All this to say, does anyone have a document or somewhere that really covers everything we know about The Freezer? A well sourced wiki? It'd also help to know what versions of Saints Row 2 exist, and how different each region could be, gonna try those too eventually. Any triggers like lighting changes, or interior to exterior loading, or audio loading, whatever it might be, if ya'll got some ideas, I'd appreciate the help. I'm no technical expert but I'm curious enough to put the effort in. Doubt anywhere else would take this seriously so shootin' my shot here.
In retrospect, doesn't it seem obvious that it was a shadow/lighting glitch caused by misloaded map chunks? To me, that always seemed like the most obvious answer.

I can remember the first time I heard about this literally scared me so bad I didn't play SR two till the dubstep Saints Row came out, but looking back it's not that scary it's just very interesting now...

4:03 I'm so glad this was covered by itself. I vividly remember playing SR2 as a kid and I was in an indoor section when one of these low poly pedestrians in a red shirt walked right past me. I always thought it was some "ghost" easter egg I encountered but never really gave the idea much attention, though watching these Freezer vids has always reminded me of it. Glad I literally have an answer to it now.

i'm not so well-versed in the technical side of things, but what got me thinking is why would the Freezer appear in that multiplayer map? i get that it's the only one that has Zombie Uprising in it, but since you don't actually enter Zombie Uprising at any point, you don't load an additional Zombie Uprising map that would then lead to a memory overwrite - so why would the Freezer still appear and still cause crashes even if there's theoretically nothing to trigger it?
i would think that if the very presence of a Zombie Uprising spawn could lead to crashes, it would have to mean that the Zombie Uprising spawn itself could somehow lead to a memory overwrite - and i'm curious as to why it would do that, since the very presence of the spawn does not entail the loading of any additional map (at least as far as i'm aware), and as such shouldn't lead to a memory overwrite.
also, if the Zombie Uprising spawn is enough to make the game crash in that multiplayer map, why doesn't it do the same in freeroam where there are already these glitched Zombie Uprising spawns in addition to the existing intended ones?
idk, i'm not familiar too much with this stuff but it just got me thinking, maybe i understood something wrong - if any of you have any answers please let me know! why would a Zombie Uprising spawn cause crashes in the multiplayer and why wouldn't it do the same in freeroam?
I don't think the MP map was supposed to have that prompt, it was supposed to only be there in the single player.
Maybe when the devs were removing some of the extra secret content from the game, they disabled this location incorrectly, so the zombie uprising assets from under the crib are loaded into memory when you are on that MP map by accident.
It seems like each of these locations with prompts were going to have their own zombie uprising map, but they all had to be removed and only the one under the crib is left in the game.
Interesting that that “cloaked spinner” at the ZU prompts in the airport was in the 360 version as well. Since one of my go to interiors is Wardill I always noticed that. Not sure what that’s supposed to be, my guess is the minigun’s barrels spinning at full firing speed with some kind of transparent shader applied. You can also see it at 6:19 on the right side of the popcorn machine. Seems like it’s only tied to prompts attached to food machines, since one doesn’t appear at the location at the mall, another one of my go to interiors. And I didn’t see one in your footage of the Science Center footage. Great vids!
HELL YES!!! I love your videos and anything SR2 related. For some reason I really enjoyed the final fandub part with the Reboot. The writing and jokes are awful and boring in the OG game, but this fandub was really entertaining! It just seems really refreshing and actually promising. The humor is spot-on and it feels like despite all of the mistakes that happened with the reboot, there's still some good to be taken from it. Once this fandub comes out, I'm gonna pretend the fandub characters are the canon ones, because I can and most of us will definitely agree. Good luck with your projects!!

Fun fact: Voices of the Void has a shadow entity which will appear if you leave the bounds and crash your game, called the Fridge.
Obviously, the freezer is a subtle foreshadowing on Volition's part, which only finally had a payoff with the reboot. This was letting the players know how Volition wants to kill off the Saints Row games. Very big brain stuff on their part

Hey MrSaints Apologies if I may of missed it in the video but what is the explanation for the disc being in a glitched state on the old Xbox and not the new ones. And no I’m not talking about the Xbox hardware itself. It seems odd that the “glitched disc” itself only affects older Xbox’s and not the newer ones. Like surely the newer Xbox must encounter some bugs or glitch state that is what a broken copy is right?! This is insane to me.

He tested it how many times, though? A more dedicated investigation team found it's real and figured out a significant explanation as to why it's like this.
@@TheTrueArkher He and a few others actually tested on multiple platforms with what was known but couldn't find it on any of them. This video shows why - he must've used a newer Xbox 360 which isn't affected.

Great video. This makes me remember that i found an easter egg in the game as a kid and as much as i looked it up i never managed to find it again. Even my brother was surprised about it.

I had a similar broken map chunk glitch on my OG 360 with a copy of Oblivion. Chunks would load incorrectly, being replaced with an exclamation mark inside a red triangle. It popped up after doing the Mace of Doom trick by deleting the Wizard's Tower DLC. It was fun messing around with it, but it completely borked up my 360/Disc of the game. It's interesting seeing this issue with another game; I always thought it was just caused by Bethesda's spaghetti code.

Oh wait do we not remember how to paint the helicopters, I remember doing it all the time along with the night blade car. Off the top of my head it had something to do with customising a specific truck and existing the menu to pick another car, heli or tank and it will let you change things. I remember changing the rearview mirror on tanks.

I remember a few months ago I was playing on the ps3 and I somehow glitched underneath the map in a vehicle and couldn’t pull up the pause screen or anything. I could only rev the car. Not get out or pause or anything. This game is definitely intriguing.

Well everyone knows that you can't change the content of an optical disk, so the freezer has to be linked to the ram instead, the problem is that the ram is reset when the console is shut down so the freezer should disappear when this happens, unless instead of a bad instruction of the ram, the freezer is a physical damage in the ram, which a program can't produce, something like an excess of voltage would be needed and since its an error exclusive for the 360, I think that is just what happens, it seems like the console was designed with two fatal flaws, being the second that when certain sector of ram is accessed under very specific circumstances, it gets destroyed and for some reason that sector is important for saints row.
I just don't understand by what mechanism the game is able to get the Xbox 360 to permanently break it's own copy.
It's a well known fact that the Xbox 360 can damage or destroy discs, either by spinning too fast causing the discs to shatter under pressure, or by someone moving the console while a disc is being read, causing the disc to wobble and make contact with a part of the tray while it is spinning, scratching the disc.
But that isn't what's happening here. It seems like the xbox 360 is able to write to discs, and the game loading things into memory incorrectly and reading memory incorrectly somehow causes the system to write something to the disc.
Could it be something to do with copyright protection? Maybe the part of the games code on disc that toggles the basement cells gets written to true instead of false, so the basement cells load up by default always on a cursed disc?
Saints row 2's game data takes up at most 85% of the disc, because 15% of the early 360 discs is reserved for anti-piracy software. I don't know if the xbox 360 disc reader can write to a disc though, it doesn't seem like it should be able to... but if it can't, then it's literally physically impossible for the console to permanently damage the disc.
The Freezer is the coolest spooky video game mystery, because it sounds like a run of the mill creepypasta but is very real which makes it even more unbelievable. It's a shame this glitch feels a bit underrated.
Replaying Saints Row 2 once again recently just netted so much fun for me. It still holds up strong. Been on this journey with you since 2017 and it feels good to basically wrap it up. I thought about looking for him myself but hey… I don’t feel like buying a new SR2 copy right now
With Dead Rising getting a remake I hope other studios will take notice when a fan base is listened to so much it can revive a dead series even momentarily.
