I remember trying to nickname my Pokemon after CPU Pokemon in order to get them to be the color I wanted. Didn't work :P
Something else about the rentals is that their stats are also not the best: according to some rough number crunching I did, the fully evolved starters have stats equivalent to 10 vitamins worth of stat exp in all stats but DVs (a random number from 0 to 15 that gives that many points in a specific stat at level 50) of 1 in all stats. Combine that with the weak moves, and your starter will EASILY be better. Generally, the stronger the Pokémon’s base stats, the weaker the stat exp, moves, and DVs are to compensate
I do wanna point out that the mechanics of Gen 2 are still weird. You did mention that Screech then doing Self-Destruct would do more damage Scykoh but it ignores Defense anyways so it was a redundant move.

electrode used sonic boom, it got bad reveiws
Pretty amazing that Electrode survived an Earthquake from Pooh, considering Pooh's high Attack, Earthquake's high power, and Electrode's bad physical Defense. My Tyranitar (appropriately named Thanatos after the Greek god of death) has never missed a kill with Earthquake on Electrode, and Tyranitar's base attack stat is only slightly higher than Ursaring's. Of course, there are damage variables, but I still didn't see that coming.
Could be, or at least not optimal.
Well, they have to be above-average because Pooh is male, since that's how DVs work.

If the enemy Electrode had Stat Exp, that would explain it. According to a damage calc I found, even an Ursaring with 185 attack at that level wouldn’t OHKO a full stat EXP and DV level 50 Electrode

The original Pokémon Stadium is the only Pokémon game I own. That being said, I never actually got the hang of it, nor did I beat the main game in its entirety. Kinda cool to see the second one though!

Ursaring really wont do much with those attacks-
I always had a sour taste with Stadium 2 because the announcer got off the drugs he was on.. I miss that enthusiasm! Great vid though as always

I just finished watching a play through of Pokemon Colosseum and some of these pokemon look the exact same
Yeah, the models from Stadium, Stadium 2, Colosseum/XD, and I believe Battle Revolution are all shared, at least for the Kanto/Johto Pokemon.

Yeah you should change up your team for some of the cups but don't just use rental pokemon, use other pokemon from Crystal or pokemon yellow instead.

Probably the name, but they only seem to change color for very specific names such as certain AI names or certain references to other Nintendo stuff, like how Triforce made Dodrio green, it seems to be programmed on a complete name basis instead of a letter by letter basis, very lame but it seems that is how it works, (just my guess but it seems most likely since most of the Pokemon in the stadium 1 play through were just regular color and only Scykoh's Dodrio changed color and non of his crystal team has changed color, again super lame, but it is probably the easiest to program)
