Update: my final payout amount from this bag was $27.24! I break it down more in the video, but thredup selected and posted 16 items from my bag for sale, and 14 items actually sold.
Look it at like, you are helping someone find something awesome to wear. You are awesome, doing this I don’t have the patience, so I donate to Women in Distress. I call it “Going Green” and doing great for your community.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this video that you made because I've already tried to watch several to learn what threat up is and how it works for an average person cleaning out their closet. But most of the videos, even if the title makes them sound like they're going to be a basic. How to for beginners all talk about being a reseller and making money by resaling clothes that you buy at thrift stores and sell on thread up or places like that. Your video was very easy to understand and follow for a complete beginner who just wants to clean out their closet and isn't looking to take things out of thrift stores at a reasonable price and make some return on them online. So thank you for this video.
"I used to rely on ThredUp for secondhand shopping, but the long waits were a dealbreaker. Ditchit is a total upgrade-faster delivery, accurate listings, and zero surprises. Shopping has never been easier!"
I see people on here calling ThredUp “robbery” but if you think about it... they are doing all the work for you. Her payout is pretty similar to what she’d get from a place like Plato’s Closet, except they now have more stringent rules for what clothing they accept. For example, doesn’t matter if the item is in perfect condition and looks exactly like something new on trend, if it’s within a couple years old they won’t take it. Even if it’s a timeless style. Doesn’t matter. So in that sense, ThredUp might be better. I’ve been selling clothes online for almost 9 years now. And while I can tell you that, yes, you should list valuable items yourself on sites like eBay or Poshmark, the lesser tier items are just not worth what you think they are anymore. If cheap items make you any profit, that’s a bonus. Just because you paid a lot more to buy it new doesn’t mean it holds that value. That’s just real sales facts on depreciation.
Agreed. I've been donating our clothes after giving up on garage sales because they're so much work and I'd always end up donating half of it anyways. So the way I see it is something is better than nothing and then they donate what's left for me. Instead of me having to haul it off.
I get the whole convenience thing of not having to list, ship, talk to buyers, etc... but wow, convenience with thredup cost a ton. This is almost robbery 😬
Thank you for your video. Now I know that I am not going to use that company. Basically you are making a company rich. Instead I prefer to donate. This video changed my mind and I appreciated
They used to be decent to sell BUT in the current year 2021 Caution: if you are interested in SELLING to Thredup DON'T. they are dishonest and will not handle your items with care (if they damage your items they will pay you like $2 for the damage), will not price them accurately, and they will switch their policies all the time where you basically are screwed (and cherrypick the ones they want to apply to you given the situation). They have NO accountability and will NOT admit wrongdoing and if an issue comes up they will NOT look into it.
I made my first purchase, about a week or two ago for St Pattys day; a t shirt and green wristlet I so love the items. I am definitely buy again from Thredup.
Thanks for the video, I was researching the company as they are going public in the stock market and wanted to get a better idea on it. Your video has certainly help me get a better understanding of it! Thanks a lot!
Thank you for making this!! I was considering sending some clothes in because I know I won’t bother selling them myself. Lol. I’d most likely donate them otherwise, so any money I can make is fine by me.
That is still more money than I would have made. I eaither giveaway or donate. Like you, it sounds like it would be the best bet for me who doesn't want to babysit a sale.
They do not pay enough, but they do all the work it makes more sense to sell on Poshmark or Amazon if you have designer or premium brands and some time. They used to give money for your items upfront but they changed. Great review, it is better for new and or gently used mall brands.
I have experience as buyer and seller. Buy: horrible return policy. Sent me a dress that was torn; couldn't tell online. Sell: sent over 50 items; only accepted 29 items. Then they set an "expire" to some items. To get those items back, I used the store credit made by selling 15 of the items and still owed them more money. I will never buy or sell using this site again. They have not only lost a customer, but I am actively telling people NOT to use them.
That is hardly with the effort. For resellers who want to buy good stuff at the bins this is basically not worth it. 19 dollars for 23 items is ridiculous, thought I could use this but see now it isn’t worth it, Esp. Now they will not return items back to you as they charge 6 per item for returns. Not worth it. I doubt they donate the items. I think they probably sell in bulk to other countries or send boxes to resellers. Thanks for this video. It helped me make the decision to not use thrednup.
So, I sent 3 boxes last year in August if 2029 and have not seen them list and not received any money! What can I do? They are terrible about communicating 🥵
I own thousands of womens shoes - so a $10 pair (value) for cheap mall brand but cute /sexy shoes I get $1 per pair on Thredup (but only if they sell) and on Poshmark I could get $7 ($5 just to unload as a bundle) .... wow what a great deal... NOT - I wouldn't even break even - that sounds like a clothing pawn shop. Cheaper just to have a garage sale.
Awesome video! Super informative too :) I just sent in my first clean out kit. I noticed you said it took about a month for them to receive it & process your bag. Did you just do the standard processing time or did you pay the extra money for them to process right away? I was also wondering about how long it took for them just to receive the cleanout kit & if you were able to track it at all?
Dianna Thanks! I did standard processing (did not pay extra to expedite). If I recall, the delay was in processing the bag, not shipping. I mailed in my kit in mid-February right before things started shutting down due to Covid-19 so it’s possible the processing was extra long due to lowered work occupancy etc. And I do remember some kind of status tracker if you log into your thredup account and go to your seller’s page and view your clean out kit.
That’s only because of the pandemic from what I heard is 2 Distribution Centers closed down which caused their inbound bags to be sent to other DC’s and it caused a major back up.
Flori DC you can choose a payout or you can get a percentage more if you choose to convert it to either store credit or a gift certificate to one of their retail partners
Call me whatever No, you can request a free “clean out kit,” which contains a prepaid bag for you to fill up and send back in. You only need to pay for shipping if you want your clothes return shipped to you if they do not sell (otherwise they will be donated or recycled).
This is probably only worth it if you really got it like that (💰) and you just want some chump change from the clothing that you actually initially spent hundreds of dollars on. Thank you so much for the honest review, I'm in the process of trying to flip clothing and I will not be using thread up. Thank you so much
Oh wow, that doesn’t sound right! When you go to your seller page in your account, what is the status of the items your bag? Can you see which items were accepted and listed for sale? You only get paid for items that are sold once the return window passes. If you are having trouble getting to your balance from sold items or if they still have not processed your bag, I would contact customer service directly!
@@Heatherreseller Hey!! Also via their website it's also apparently "This means that it's likely in an in-between stage of processing, and should updated within a couple of business days." I hope this helps!! I had to google it, lol. I wasn't sure either
Great video . . . very informative! I recently received my clean out kit, but I'm a little confused. The information included with the kit thanks me for donating my clean out bag and says I will receive a donation tax receipt within one week after the bag is received. Does that mean all of my items will be donated and none will posted "for sale"? I've never done thredup and I'm not sure if I marked something wrong when I requested the kit. My intention is to sell what they "accept" and donate items they don't accept and items that don't sell. Can you shed some light on this???
I don't recall seeing anything about receiving a donation receipt, and I have not received one from my bag, so I am not sure what that means! I would contact customer service to confirm if you are concerned.
Update: my final payout amount from this bag was $27.24! I break it down more in the video, but thredup selected and posted 16 items from my bag for sale, and 14 items actually sold.

Guess What, I decided to donate to Thred Up, got my bags yesterday and filled made lists either the bag # and now awaiting USPS to pick them today.
That's $27.24 more than if you'd dropped them off at Goodwill! Thanks for the review

I’m not sure if I missed it but did you select the option to deduct $10.99 vs donating the items ?
I chose to donate or recycle any unsold or unselected items (did not pay for the return shipping option).

linnea .p yes there is an option to cash out your earnings to a bank account or PayPal account
candidcait Ok thanks!💕

Thank you for the info!!

Tfs! What does it mean when selling an item it says - unavailable? Some sold and some in a cart but not sure what unavailable means? Thanks
I don't think I saw that message on any of my items, so I'm not sure!

Poshmark take 20%, Mercari take 10%
Poshmark. No brainer.
