After seeing your vid, I guess I should have known the screens would be different on the Z compared to the Z force, since the force is the shatterproof one would have more support with the screen. So the disassembly is a bit different. Also the moto Z play is different as well, the LCD connector is in a different location. I will put up a video in next few days for the play version
I'm kinda jealous that the Force version has those little clips along the edges instead of the insane amount of strong adhesive holding the XT1650-03's screen in place. Also, the ribbon cable's placement is much more sensible. What was Motorola thinking?!
The easiest one is the Z PLAY, but I'm just baffled why do they make these phones so difficult to disassemble?! Like all the newer iPhones have 2 screws, that's it!! nice and elegant (course the iPhone sucks lol)
i should have looked at this video first as i just screwed up my phone. Can you tell me what part i need to get if i broke that gold type ribbon at the bottom of where you pull the screen top off? i think it is called the lcd screen attachment. it is the part that has to be taken loose from the other side to separate it, and where it is best to buy it? The phone is old and only reason i want to fix it is to get info from it. also what size screw driver tip do you use for those 6 screws? Thanks again for great video.
Hi, this video is very old and the quality of it sucks, Can't believe that it looks that bad now a days with the 4K videos I upload. So its hard to tell what piece your talking about. You would need to take a picture of it or something and upload it online so I can see what you are referring to. Or point it out in the video.
Yeah, you are so right, I should of read comments first, I almost broke mine, but I knew something else had to be holding it, whew, glad I didn't force it.... Sir, please edit and add in about the other 2 screws near the finger print sensor....
I just had to take mine apart to change the earpiece speaker. I was as careful as I could be. I replaced the speaker and put everything back together and it works great now. Except, I've lost the top eighth inch of my screens touch response. I can't pull down my notifications any longer. is the digitizer bad now or is there something I missed on reassembly?
Sounds like something similar happened to my display, except only the bottom third is responsive now. I think it's because we must have flexed the panel slightly and delaminated the touchscreen layer. This thing is so fragile!
Hi, many thanks for posting this video! Do you know where replacement parts can be purchased? I could only find the screen assembly for sale, but i'd actually like to replace the lens cover, cause it's all scratched up! Thank you! =)
hello I am fascinated by the way you disassembled the Motorola phone I have this same cell phone but the battery really does not last so I decided to disassemble it to change the battery Myself and it loses network I want to get in touch with you but the problem is that I don't understand English I'm French I live in Ivory Coast
Wow, I can't believe how bad quality these older videos I did were lol. Not sure how you were able to follow the video, but there are two plastic pieces on the bottom by the charger port when you remove the screen. Make sure those are in place properly since those are for the antennas. Also make sure you didn't damage or cut any cable etc.
hello! do you know where i can buy replacement rear facing camera and lens? both cracked form impact and i cannot find a vendor for the exact part -_- i can find xt1080 cameras, but am not sure if these are compatible with the xt1650 hardware? any advice would be great :)
Hey, can you give me the part number for the motherboard? Also do you know if those small plastic antennas have anything to do with Bluetooth? My Bluetooth stopped working all of the sudden, hard reset didn't work and I live in Europe. It's way to expensive to send the phone back in the US for a warranty claim. Or would a regular Moto Z motherboard fit?
yes if you want to take the screen off, you need to remove the back glass panel on top and bottom so you can unscrew the screws to be able to lift off and remove the screen.
@@abdulsalam939 yea you need to use something very thin to get between the panel and frame and there is a chance of it breaking but good thing is those panels are sold online for cheap so yep
It has a plastic layer over the screen itself, sometimes people peel it off if it has a lot of scratches but its like a thick plastic layer which is what helps prevent the screen from breaking. If yours is missing it, you will notice an indentation on the screen and it wont be flush to the frame of the phone. Its like a thick screen protector thats harder to peel off.
Hi, you can use head on the back to loosen the adhesive and also if you notice the scene before we take the battery out we place the phone down and it cuts to a new scene where you see the battery being taken out. We basically removed the battery once and then showed you guys how its done so we wouldn't spend 3-5 minutes trying to pry it off and waste peoples time waiting for us to take it off before the video can continue. So yep hope this answers your question.
P.t. Gottney all moto z force are like this, but if your referring to moto z play or regular moto z not moto z force then ya those are different. We did a video on those as well.
thanks for breakdown of the phone; I own that phone & it gives me some insights to the technology of the phone; Your video was interesting; Thanks; Jeff
hey terry. i have found a replacement camera vendor (a couple actually, but it seems like the same exact part?) at: www.repairsuniverse.com/rear-camera-replacement-for-motorola-moto-z-force-droid.html and another on ifixit. Admittedly I just ordered it, so if it comes in as an incorrect part, I will delete this post and consider it a failed attempt. I haven't been able to find the outer glass lens though -_-. i will be using korvu plastic until i find a financially responsible way of replacing it.
do you mean the Moto Z Droid? because the z force droid is same thing as z force. For the force, no need to heat the glass, just remove the screws etc. But for the Moto Z Droid that is not a force edition, you need to heat the glass because screws are under the screen side.
The beginning of the teardown says to remove the two glass panels after removing the sim tray. But there is no explanation of how to remove these panels. Anyone have a suggestion?
Heat it up, remove it carefully by sliding some thin plastic (thinner than a credit card, more like a guitar pick) under the glass a few points at a time. Keep applying heat until the glass feels just too hot to touch with your bare fingers, otherwise the adhesive will begin to harden again.
It would be hard but as long as its stuck in the sim tray area, you should be able to use small enough tools to get it out, however be careful not to break the contact pins which read your sim and sd card because that could be the worst thing you can probably do lol, you wouldn't be able to use the phone if you broke those until you had them replaced by a professional.
Hi, no unfortunately there is no internal SD. Just the external one if you had saved onto it. What is wrong with the phone exactly that you are saying it is bricked? The software is not working at all?
I appreciate the reply! Apparently the damn thing was powered off. So, the phone's working now that I have it booted and got it past my PIN login. The screen is completely black, but the digitizer and the rest of the phone works (can receive calls, etc.). I tried to plug it into the computer's USB but apparently debugging is not enabled and thus I cannot pull the files. Trying to bypass debugging is way beyond my skillset. Wondering at this point if its easier to just replace the screen (found them on ebay for $50-60/per). Bought some various equipment to try and project the screen onto my PC but doubt they will work with the USB debugging disabled.Any thoughts on that? I don't care about the phone, just need to get all the pictures of my little girl.
Best bet would be to try and replace the screen. Most things will require you to accept or turn features on for any connections to be enabled so you would need to see what you are doing. Also try taking the phone apart, disconnecting the cable for the screen and re connecting it. Sometimes it works. And Try one more thing. Press and hold the vol down and power button at same time for 20 seconds to hard power off the phone and power on, see if that by any chance gets the screen working again.
I bought (and returned hah) a moto projector to verify the output was good from the mobo and the screen was indeed toast. Good news since the screen looks like an easy fix. I was also able to use mouse with OTG to get in there and get a backup running while I wait on the screen to arrive. Recovered everything. Going to also try and just disconnect/reconnect the current screen onight. Thanks again for your help.
Because it takes a lot of time and no one wants to sit and look at someone prying off some glass panels for 20 min of the video. People who usually take these apart have some experience in what needs to be done, if you have no experience then you probably should not be taking it apart because you would have a high chance of damaging your phone if you don't know what your doing. The glass panels break easy and should be taken off with patience so you don't break them. Heat and thin pry tools which won't mess up your housing.
I'd like to suggest that you mention that in your videos. I'm a newb and I assumed that it was *so easy that it didn't need to be shown* because it would be so obvious. I watched the Z-play videos which showed the heat gun -but their approach was to remove the glass from the front of the phone. Had I known, I would have taken my phone to a shop *yesterday* instead of designating part of today to try it myself. All I wanted to do is to check to see if the LCD screen connector was loose. I'm an electrician, so I have lots of tools, but I don't want to go too far. Knowing that I couldn't do any of this would have gotten my phone to the shop yesterday, saved me some time/frustration, and I could have been working today instead. :(
I found a recent post on how to remove and replace broken glass on this model of phone. I have been replacing screens for several years but I only end up doing 1-5 a year. Sometimes not even. Other then the glass looks like the darker one to work on over all Droid I have.
Honestly, it's trivial. Just use a hot air source like a hair dryer and some thin plastic guitar picks (or something similar) to cut through the adhesive. DO NOT use anything metal to do this as there are fragile electronic components under there.
My screen just died today. I dropped it and when I tried to turn it back on it just wouldn't light up. The phone itself is working, I can even touch the buttons on the screen ( without knowing where they are), however, I can't do much with the screen all black ( at least I can make and take calls through google assistant ). I live in Brazil and have no idea what to do. I was thinking about three possible solutions: 1) send it to motorola in US for repair; 2) try to disassemble it and look for the reason for the sudden screen issue ( maybe some inner piece moved after the drop and it's out of place ); 3) order a new screen piece and try to change it myself.... Anyone has an idea? Would disassebling it solve anything?
Your display connector probably disconnected. The cable for the screen sometimes pops off the board if you drop it hard enough. You can disassembly it and push the cable connector back on the mother board and connect it, and re assemble the phone again should work :)
if you are in Nigeria, You can try repairam.com . you just sit back relax and they will come over to your side and pick , repair and deliver it right to your doorstep.

There are 6 screws to be removed, not 4 as the video states. Leaving in the last two can cause you to break the screen when prying it out.
Yeah, you are so right, I should of read comments first, I almost broke mine, but I knew something else had to be holding it, whew, glad I didn't force it....

No adhesive for the last 2 glass pieces?
Hi, many thanks for posting this video! Do you know where replacement parts can be purchased? I could only find the screen assembly for sale, but i'd actually like to replace the lens cover, cause it's all scratched up! Thank you! =)
Hi, no problem. Best place I can think of would be ebay, but don't think the lens covers are available yet, should come around soon.

Super!. One thing is unclear: how to remove the covers on the screws?
You will need a razer or something like it thin, but be careful the glass can easily crack
Are these crits glued or simply tightly fixed?
they are held on with adhesive (double sided tape)
Nice, good video, man! Thank for sharing your knowledge
Thanks bud. That was it and you helped.

Hey, could you do a Camera lens replacement for this phone? My lens is pretty scuffed um since the glass scratches so easily.
Its held on with adhesive so you can heat it up a bit and peel/pry the glass lens off and replace it

I believe it has 2 rows
I don't think that's what he means. There's no phone in existence that support UHS-II yet.
