Isn't recycling a polluting act in itself? I feel like people sometimes forget about the energy that is used to recycle and the pollution it causes.. Obviously it's better than relying on newly-manufactured goods (which use more resources and encourage the piling up of landfills), but it is definitely best to avoid any sort of packaging all together.

In Poland you can put tetrapacks in PET (plastic) recycling bin :) I rarely order food, including pizza, but most take out places here put a little piece of aluminium foil on the bottom. Not ideal, I know, but at least this way the box is not greasy and completely recyclable :) The receipts always annoy me :/ I think there should be like a government sanctioned app, so you can ping with your phone at the checkout and get your receipt on your phone, especially for not so important things like groceries (it's not like you're gonna return your carrots :P). Actually, Lidl has its app, for coupons and stuff, that gives you e-receipt but you still get the paper one too, why?! I had the same feeling when I had to buy a pair of hiking pants, deciding between cotton and synthetic fibers: the store described synthetic fiber pants as more sustainable than cotton pants, as synthetic pants were made from recycled materials, while cotton needs a lot of resources to grow. I carefully evaluated the purchase (I was unable to find any option in second hand stores) and in the end I decided for cotton, because it has greater potential to biodegrade...I think... I hope I made the right choice! Sometimes as a consumer it is very difficult to make a "right" decision. A little out of topic, but also the problem of the materials from which the clothes are made can be interesting.
I live in Russia and we don’t recycle. Only private companies do it, but often they can’t handle the amount. So I just ended up with reducing my waste as much as possible. Your series are very informative and interesting to watch. Thank you for this format

I think this videos are sooo good!!! But it would be great if you maybe make one video, where you compare shortly all the different things, so that we have a final result. Or is that impossible?
I love this. This was a great video. I’m a paper person. Digital formatting for writing/notes/and art just doesn’t work for me. But I also recycle as much of my things as possible. I “junk” journal and use my scraps from anything I use/make (I have a huge box of scraps for projects same with fabric scraps!) I love using cardboard to make books and notebooks. My kids LOVE cardboard boxes. We have one in the living room that they’ve been playing with since early December. It’s big enough for them both to fit in and they play with it every day. Parenting hack! Also, if we’re knobheads who didn’t bring enough bags for grocery shopping, we get the paper bags and I use them to make patterns, notebooks, paint pallets and of course, for the kiddos to draw on. Once again, loved this.
I am a high school teacher in Canada 🇨🇦. It is completely tragic and utterly alarming how much paper is wasted in our schools. A lot of paper is just tossed into the garbage bins in the classrooms and offices in my school. The library and the computer labs are the worst because this is where the printers are. I have spoken to my school district admin & trustees about the need for recycling bins in every room of every school, but still they have not acted on this. The only recycling bins that exist in my school are in the classrooms/offices of teachers that are sustainability minded. Another pet peeve of mine is that so much of the paper that is wasted has only been used on one side. I dig through the recycling bins and salvage the reusable paper that is still good on one side and use it again. I have been doing this for 33 years of teaching. I will retire in a few years and am worried about where I will get my scrap/reusable paper when I am no longer in the school system (I don’t want to have to purchase new paper when there is soooo much that is wasted and can be reused.). Lastly... I hate to say this... but it is frightening how lazy the majority of people are when it comes to taking a few extra seconds to recycle or think about using less in the first place. This mindset has to change!!
11:45 How do the ones handling the recycling determine if the recycled material is useable or not. Do they have automatic filtering and cleaning systems or maybe lots of people doing manual checking? I think it would be really interesting to know what happens in between the collection of the recycled material until it's been recycled.
I love your informational videos like this and the one about glass. As far as the pizza boxes go...I’m fortunate enough to have a composting option so the greasy pizza paper goes there. If anyone has that option, please do that before throwing it in the landfill.
It's so aggravating that my country only recycles 20% paper. Now I won't be able to sleep at night just thinking about all that wasted paper which goes directly to landfills.
I would like to create postcards and I'm going to have to research how I can change the idea of using paper and go digital or...... idk...tbh. Any thoughts you have? I am also fed up with the "sustainable" labels.
I just saw a paper 'recycling' clip on YT in German, that was basicallly about how Paper and cardboard are pressed into blocks and shipped to other countries. arrrgggghhhhhh. ;(

Do you know how much of forests used for paper is replanted? I heart someone make an arguement that paper doesn’t add much to deforestation as it’s generally replanted and provides an option to earn money from owning a forest
Very helpful! I've been thinking about one paper issue a lot: whether to compost or recycle. I compost at home and also am lucky enough to have municipal compost pickup. In an ideal world, i think once plant material is milled into paper, we would take full advantage of that work/energy and recycle it continuously till it was degraded in quality beyond usability and then composted. On the other hand, a lot of material sent to recycling just ends up in landfill anyway, and even if it is recycled once, there is no gaurantee it wont end up in landfil in its next life. If I can gautantee now, through composting, that the stored carbon in the paper will return to the soil and feed more plant life, is that preferable, even though I am shortening its life as a potentially recyclable product? Ahhh the dilema!

Ive seen some receipts in the uk that are made from managed forests, with the certifications, but I don’t know whether that makes it BPA free, or recyclable?

I've switched over to Who Gives a Cr-p paper (I love the stuff, but wish it had a less vulgar name!) and, in a similar fashion to hair ties, I have found several lost handkerchiefs in the street that I brought home and washed. I use those for nose blowing now. Unfortunately, with the spread of Coronavirus, my usual duty of picking up and reusing/recycling litter has had to be suspended. I'm not touching anything on the street at this time!

Tree only produce 28% and almost 20% the amazon alone. I dont think it’s that much problem but i know without trees, is no life 😢

Trees are carbon neutral. They release as much carbon dioxide as they remove essentially so you cannot fix climate change with trees unfortunately.
I live in Quebec in Canada and we can compost paper/cardboard that has been contaminated by food, so that's really cool!
