      Though, even if Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer and soul mate, I avoid listening to his music unless it is staged. His music is piercing my soul and doesn't want to leave my head, and confuses me so much emotionally with its rich colors, and so I need more healthy music for me (I wonder how Tchaikovsky felt towards his own music) (;

      @@lehnrik I love Beethoven over everything, and rn I’m in a deep Rachmaninoff phase :) I play piano so I listen to a lot of piano solo and other than those two mostly Brahms, Prokofiev, Mahler and Schumann. Through this vid I’m discovering Ravel and some impressionists right now (holy f*ck they’re awesome). Do you have any recommendations for me? :)

    1:41 What’s pretty interesting is, that Liszt had a really divided personality. On the one side he was a flamboyant Virtuoso with great arranged showpieces, and on the other he was a little shy about his more complex, innovative compositions. That’s also one of the historic reasons why he is overshadowed by Wagner.

      Les Preludes is one of the greatest works of all time.
      It made my blood boil in the film "Impromptu" where Franz Liszt is compared unfavourably to Chopin, whom I love, but the composer of les Preludes cannot be disparaged.

    Mine is Schönberg. I am a composer. I believe music theory just tries to explain why what the composers wrote worked. It's not a set of rules to follow.

      Problem with Haydn is: if I really want to listen to music from the classical era, I go for Mozart, otherwise there's the romantics for a reason

      Haydn is underrated for me. I think many agrees, but it's a minority as his popularity is shadowed by Beethoven and somehow Mozart

    Look, I love Vivaldi. He was really just a One Hit Wonder with his Four Seasons. Well, Three Seasons because no one plays Autumn. He has so much more beautiful music that is underrated and I hate that he’s only known for the Four Seasons even tho they are beautiful.

      Yes some of Vivaldi can be a little repetitive, yet he is by far the greatest composer of all time, and I love all of these composers.
      Mozart comes as close as any and when I am in the mood, Wagner is fabulous as is Prokofiev

      @@jonswanson7766 For me Vivaldi and Wagner are almost opposites in a way. Wagner: The two melodies everyone knows are just the tip of the iceberg and there is *soooo* much awesome other stuff to discover.
      Vivaldi: There are the 1 or 2 melodies everyone knows, and that's the main thing because I never really felt any of the rest of it.

      The two composers are very different, don't you think that a little variety never hurt anybody.
      To tell you the truth, my love for Wagner is a little embarrassing, as his music is a bit like a drug.
      The music of Vivaldi is something more, it is a representation of an old ripe intensely sure of itself culture that was Venice.

    There's this myth that communists hate Shostakovich because apparently Stalin left angry at one of his concerts...this is false. Shostakovich was a proud communist and the Soviet people really adored him.
    Same for new commies like myself, Shostakovich is one of the greatest composers of 20th century

    Somehow, I never arrived at Romanticism, and thus my musical experience frays out around 1830. And I don't like opera. I only heard Wagner once (Lohengrin, and the tenor lost his voice when he was calling the swan). I can't remember to ever have been to a Verdi or Puccini opera. My last opera was Platée by Jean-Philippe Rameau, which I thought was actually funny.

    His music is so deep, sometimes it gives you a motivation to grow up, sometimes takes you out of depression, often people who hate Chopin, just don't like pianists (maybe they had a traumatic past with them idk), that's the problem.

    I mean scriabin is my favourite composer and the complaints i hear most is that hes crazy, hard to listen to and frighteningly unpredictable. If anything that makes me appreciate him more. Chopin? Never heard of her 😊

    it's not that i dislike debussy. he's got some great pieces. it's just that he makes me so fucking angry. like those etudes of his (i don't remember the name) in which he'd play the least coherent thing you can think of and then, only when it's done, he'd give you the title like, "yeah, this was supposed to be x thing all along" and you're sitting there like. what do you think this is. a modern art gallery.
