      I don't know how to write women, or men, or enbies, or anyone, but at least I'm not obsessed with their bodies.
      I just write something like "Sam is a police officer, she's 25 years old and is friends with Pauly". Then as the story goes (if it goes), I leave some characteristics like hair color, height, etc, but never about how her breasts sway in the middle of winter while she plays croquet.

    You know what's worse than men not being able to write women? Women not being able to write women. My stepmom gives me a lot of her crime fiction novels when she's done with them, and they're almost all written by women. The amount of times I've seen sentences like, "She ambled across the room, drunk, her heaving breasts swaying side-to-side in anticipation of [Male Love Interest]'s affection," is insane. And I'll read things like this and go, "Wait. This is written by a woman? What?" and it's super cringe because she should know better. And it's not like these books are written for men. Their audience is clearly middle aged women. I wish I'd have kept one of the ones she gave me, because there was a whole chapter - in a crime novel, keep in mind!! - which described in detail the backstory of the female lead, but it would be like describing her life in college and always go back to, "But no one knew her for her smarts. No, the boys back then all knew her for her breasts, famous among the campus first houses." Beautiful work.

      Like others have said, pseudonyms are a thing, and are particularly common if the writer's actual gender doesn't match their audience or the primary consumer demographic for the genre they write.
      JK uses Robert Galbraith for her transphobic crap, for example, because the crime thriller genre is infamous for its lack of respect and its unfair double standards for female writers, despite women being the primary consumers of crime thrillers.
      Unless you actively research the author, you can't guarantee that a writer is the gender of their pseudonym.
      The other factor is that many publishing houses *do* push authors to change their stories and writing style to be "appealing to more demographics," with the "more demographics" actually meaning cis, straight men. Cis straight men are still considered the "golden" demographic to appeal to, because they still have a disproportionate amount of power in society despite not having the same degree of majority they once did.

      @kanashiiookami6537 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chromedruidess2546 you don't have to go all out, sometimes readers just want an idea if what the characters are wearing. If they're taller or shorter than whomever they're talking to, and a general idea of build. Are they fit? Are they chubby? Are they white or BIPoC? Or if sci-fi and/or fantasy, do they have different skin/eye/hair colour outside the norm?
      These are all just small things you can drop in a mention rather than going all "My Immortal" with every single character on the page (if you don't know the reference you can give Jaques ze whipper's videos on here a listen, because he's working his way through that hilarity of a fanfic) so mentioning something like dusting off their jeans, pulling up the hood of their bunnyhug (hoodie to you?), or rolling up the sleeves of their dress shirt (etc) can be used as beats that give us something other than talking heads.
      And it's not just that readers want you to describe characters for the sake of whom to base an image off. That's not the problem (most of the time at least). It's more that the descriptions, be they of characters, or settings, can help ground readers in your world and immerse them in it rather than them feeling disconnected and disinterested.

    In my writing, I tend to barely give any physical description to most characters. Partially to let people fill in their own ideas, but mostly because I don't really think of people by their physical bodies unless prompted. Humans all look alike to me. ^_^;; So I write stories about main characters that aren't human anymore, so they literally don't pay attention to such things.

      As everyone else is saying, make sure you’re safe before coming out. At least ask them why they’re transphobic before coming out, or make sure you have a place to stay if things go wrong. Let them know that you’ll always love them, no matter what. (…Unless you don’t love them. That’s fine.)
      If they’re the type of person to say “but it’s not natural!”, they’re wrong. There’s dozens of animals that have shown to act like like their opposite gender, there are gender-based medical conditions (if that makes sense), and it is natural. And we’re not wild animals, anyway. We’re humans, not ants. We can change.

      If they're transphobic, I'd recommend waiting until you've moved out. When you're still living with your parents and if they're not good people, it's easier for them to control you. The other day, I was watching a video from a channel run by a dog groomer. One comment thread had a handful of transphobes making random transphobic troll comments on this video of a dog getting groomed. It was bizarre. But one of these transphobic trolls was calling itself Jamie Dodger (I guess they couldn't be bothered to work out how you actually spell your name). So I guess now there are random transphobic accounts pretending to be you, probably to try to discredit you. Guess you must be striking a nerve if transphobes feel threatened enough to try to discredit you.

      This sort of sh1t3 angers me. Impersonating someone else to put words in their mouth _angers me_ greatly.

    I am SUPER confused about the Lycra shorts one. I looked up the brand expecting maybe somewhat translucent shorts? Nope. They’re just… shorts. Tight shorts, but shorts. I really have no idea what that one was supposed to mean.

      White clothes in general tend to show colors underneath, but also Lycra is known to be snug, so there’d be outlines of underwear.

    This almost makes me want to write a story about sentient, personified breasts with weird and specific descriptions about them littered throughput at the most irrelevant points in the story. 😆

    This makes me want to.write a story all about a pair of boobs in an odd couple scenario. The left boob is all lazy and sloppy, the right is hard working and keeps everything clean. In the end, the boobs learn to accept their differences and they become the best of friends.
