Most of his goals made me awestruck especially for Inter Milan in Italian Serie A where most of the world's greatest defenders played. It was brutal. They were out to get you. Any player who got the best of Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Nesta and Genaro Gattuso had to be the greatest striker ever.

Before the game, the nike commercial with the Brasilian national team (when Ronaldo missed to "score" at the end) was shown and the whole stadium (except the Inter-fans) made the famous la ola when he missed. 2 hours later, none of the spectators did not talk about him on the way to the subway (he scored both goals for Inter, Cafu scored the one for Roma). He was by far the best striker until he got injured, so, to talk about the best who ever played the game, is hypothesis. He may have been the best without injuries, in his prime he definitely was. Until today, I've never seen a player who caused so much fear within the opponent fan base, not even Messi or CR7. After his injuries, he was a world class player, before, he was supernatural.

When I speak to my Italian colleagues about calcio and I mentioned Phenomena, whether they are Juve, Milan, Roma, Napoli, or even Breacia fan they all agreed R9 is the best.

I was 10 back then, everyone talked about Maradona before the game, but as far as I can remember, it was not the same type of fear or respect the people had like they had in Rome that day. Maradona was undoubtedly a Top 10 of all time for me (and to be fair: his prime was in 1986 and the saisons later), but the difference for me between players was never more obvious than Ronaldo playing against Cafu and Aldair (who were reigning World Champions at that time in spring of 1998!). Admittedly I followed him mainly when he was playing in Italy. What I liked a lot of him, along with his skills, strength, speed of course, was his being a true team player, humble even when his status was godlike. You'd get the feeling he was just one of the boys, and as loyal to the trainer as the latest drafted youngster. I didn't follow much his career later on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed that humble and likeable.

I started loving soccer because of him. In 2009 playing for Corinthians back in Brazill after all his injuries, he played a final of a national cup against Internacional, my childhood team. He destroyed Internacional. I couldnt do anything. It was Ronaldo. He was like 230lbs. But.. I mean.. It was Ronaldo. I didn't even got upset.
Watching this made my thought in out all the way I truly feel about the THE REAL PHENOMENON; THE ONE THE ONLY especially the way Inter’s Sandro puts it “THE REAL RONALDO NEVER CAME BACK AFTER THOSE INJURIES”!

Admittedly I followed him mainly when he was playing in Italy. What I liked a lot of him, along with his skills, strength, speed of course, was his being a true team player, humble even when his status was godlike. You'd get the feeling he was just one of the boys, and as loyal to the trainer as the latest drafted youngster. I didn't follow much his career later on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed that humble and likeable.

I remembered the time when I got a green cap with R9 on it when I was a kid, I loved it so much, I woke up early on the saturday mornings just to pick a glinse of Ronaldo on tv to copy his style, movement and technique on the street.. When I saw R7 for the first time at Man utd debut I laughed my ass off cuz there was only one Ronaldo.
