This is one of favorite Xmen stories. Fantomex, Psylocke, and Archangel truly shine in this series. It was cool to see the AOA Wolverine. Well executed series that should have another run with new original stories.
You missed an opportunity with the intro, it should've gone like this "Oh hi, you caught me looking at the logo to Deadly Class to avoid copyright strikes."
The only time i found Deadpool not to be a boring character.. Remender is a fabulous writer; I m still shocked by the quality of Fear Agent to this day
@@articuliere The character which Fabian Nicieza originally wrote was meant to be darkly humorous mercenary. The original character wasn't really boring unless one is not a fan of dark humor in characters. Then again people find Cyclops an interesting character so go figure. Unfortunately Deadpool got more and more over exposed like Wolverine and thus became more of a parody than what was intended. They Basically turned him into a loony tunes character. But some writers (Remender) for example wrote him very well.
Totally agree with you on so much! I loved this run of Uncanny X-Force. He did an amazing job of having a slick, good story. At Emerald City Comicon a few years back, I got to meet Rick Rememder and talked to him about his run on Uncanny X-Force. I told that I normally find Deadpool way too annoying of a character to enjoy in some cases (there's just only so many 4th-wall breaks I can take) and Rick told me that he hadn't read much Deadpool, so that was probably why. That shocked me, cause he still stayed true to the character. An excellent writer and good guy!
This series is how I first found Remender and now he's one of my absolute favourite writers. Why can't Marvel do more uninterrupted runs without crossovers? At this point I don't just wait for the trade I wait for the run to end so I can see if it's interrupted by a crossover I have no interest in reading. Marvel keeps becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of my reading despite having 90% of the characters I grew up caring about.
Another great episode Chris, I've been reading comics for over 20 years now and it's amazing how educational this channel is, I'm learning things specifically about creators I didn't know before, the channel is also the fuel, edging me on to finish a comic book I've been lazy about completing for years, thanks man, truly.
This was the comic series that made me like Deadpool. The relationship between Deadpool and Fantomex was so good. Fun fact, a friend of mine met Remender and he knew Remender is a fan of Grant Morrison. He told him about this character Morrison created called Fantomex and Remender was very responsive to it. Lo and behold, Fantomex appears in UXF...
This was one of my favorite series, well, ever. I was a big Deadpool fan, but by the time Uncanny X-Force came around, I felt that writers were in competition with each other to make DP as wacky and goofy as possible. Remender returned the underlying pathos to the character, which had been pretty much absent since Joe Kelly. In my opinion, issue #7 is among my favorite DP stories.
Great run! The Mark Brooks speed paint TH-cam video of him drawing a page for the Remender run is what 1) got me reading and appreciating the book itself and 2) compelled me to make the leap and utilize a stylus to make digital or hybrid art (which has made a world of difference) and 3) get back into the X-Peoples a bit after I sorta fell outta love with them for a while. I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!! Im from Mexico and I've been a comic book lover since I was a child, my dad bought me comic books to get me to read and it became a really great bonding time between myself and my father. When I was a teen comics in my country where scarcely published and some publishers had random dates for new issues and TPB (In México the publishing rights for Marvel and DC where acquired by Editorial Vid) and then the Marvel Cinematic Universe begun. It was a whole new era for comics in my country lots of Marvel and DC comics were being released but must importantly, my country got they're first TPB, Omnibuses and Hard Covers. My father and I began to buy every single Marvel and DC collected series, but time caught up with me. I started to go to college and even though my dad and I kept buying everything that came out, I couldn't keep up with college and my comic reading. It came to the point of having a full library of Marvel/DC and some other things I thought I would never read in spanish from Watchmen to Hellboy, Preacher, Kick Ass, V for Vendeta, Southern Bastards, Saga, Invincible, etc. Today I was watching this video and suddenly came to me "Wait a minute, I think I got a omnibus of that" and yes there It was on a shelf, the whole Remender run in one Book. I love this channel because with every video you remind me of everything I love in the comic industry and also I learn so much of new and important things like lettering and rediscover things like Uncanny X-Force. Keep up the great work. The Hellboy episode is my favorite!
I love this run too! The only negative I could think of is the art on the "Otherworld" storyline in the run. It's just terrible. Would've been PERFECT had they gotten Alan Davis to draw those 4 or 5 issues, especially as it deals with a lot of the Captain Britain/Excalibur stuff Davis came up with.
I liked how they dealt with the Nazi Logan kills. Not that the Nazi who made free choices for his crimes is the same as Logan. But as I was taught at my time in the military and to paraphrase the lesson my seargent gave me; regardless of why you killed someone; regardless of the reasons you did it (and you may have a very good reason) that person had people who loved them, and regardless what your reason is; it won't remove the fact that you killed thier loved one. That isn’t to defend Nazi’s, just that what I remember; Logan agrees with the Nazi’s statement. Also a few of the Logan stories seem to show that he see's himself as a broken and horrible person. And as a former Marine the idea of the loved people of your victims coming back to punish you for your your crimes spoke to me. And maybe I am wrong in my interpretation. Loved to see your synopsis for the book.

That's the issue where we learned about Captain America was the first Weapon Plus, but yeah, good video.

I remember about 4 years ago, WHSmiths here in the UK had a comic called Wolverine and Deadpool, it was a comic that printed stories a couple years too late. When I was 13/14 I had a subscription to Wolverine and Deadpool and I couldn’t stand the wait each month when they printed uncanny x-force, one of the best stories and art I’ve ever seen
Amazing to find out that your opinion on Uncanny X-Force is so similar to my own. I don't know if I would call it perfect, but when I think about an entire well contructed comic run, X-Force by Remender is always on the top of my mind

It's crazy that you did this video because I just realized read remender's uncanny x-force all the way thru Captain America, uncanny avengers, and Axis (which is really underrated) and I gotta say man you should do the trilogy. I think this was the great unsung saga of this era of marvel, and it gets over shadowed by Hickman's avengers run too often. So yeah. You got a vote for a video series here brother.
Just read through Uncanny Avengers -- the wrap up of these threads is absolutely epic. The whole package is a staggering mix of everything we love. Def consider it all connected.

This was the best X-Force. Period. It was during that time where Wolverine and Deadpool where EVERYWHERE in comics and I wasn't a fan of the latter... until this series where Wade Wilson wants to do good. Won't kill a kid. Doesn't even cash the cheques Archangel gives him.
Thanks for reminding about that amazing run. At the time it was being released it became my first read or “top of the pile’ comic. I even enjoyed Deadpool in this one which is a character I’ve never taken to. I was sad when his run ended and was excited about his Uncanny Avengers run but that failed to match the compelling storytelling of UXF in my eyes. He is definitely a writer to follow though. Recently found your channel so will check out some more stuff on here.
This is still one of my favorite series, it is so good, great art, an amazing balance of preserving the characters, yet growing them in new interesting and realistic ways, I love what they did with deadpool, showing both sides of the clown, and archangels twists of darkness, and how the team reacts to what they deem necessary to protect mutants, and the lines only certain ones will cross, showing heroism in multiple unexpected ways, so good, only wish it was longer, but it makes it that much more unique, also fantomex is a boss!!!!
jesot ok i was confused at first, seen this comment elsewhere. I have 1 i picked up just a few months back, but i can see Amazon is restocking them and Ebay sellers (as usual) are trying to gauge ppl. I did see 1 for around $70+ shipping, not a bad price
It's a reprint, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men is also getting reprinted next month. They've been two of the hardest to find for an affordable price for awhile now
Remo Stopka Uncanny X-Force is one the best written X-Men stories ever and imo the best Marvel story written in the past 25 years. It’s worth your time.
Start here with x-force then grab his uncanny avengers and Capt America run. It all builds up into an event called Axis. Definitely worth grabbing the graphics novels and reading through. It's like the star wars of marvel books everything just links together.

I’m so glad you covered this run. It’s one of my favorite that I picked up on a whim seeing the team composition and the story plus art was top notch. Fantastic review of the whole thing. But correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t the beast that you’re referencing in this video actually dark beast?
This is my favorite Marvel run! Great job on highlighting how creative Remender was with it. I do want to add, though, that there are three tie-in issues with the Fear Itself event. However, these are not written by Remender (and it shows). So yea the run is basically uninterrupted, but not entirely, I guess.
I loved this run. :D Glad to hear you pronounce the name as "Phantom X". I've often wondered, since he has the French accent, if it wouldn't be "Fan-to-maw".
I gotta say mainstream Remender was a gift, while he understandably now does creator owned books exclusively, anytime a writer of his caliber is handed the characters we love, it’s a treat. Even his more comic-booky super hero moments are creative in fun ways, for example how Nightcrawler handles Blob near the end (I hope that’s relatively spoiler free)
It's funny you talk about a beginning, middle, end. I'm, working on a video series (won't advertise here, and you won't find it on my name) on Batman: Knightfall, and for all the technical and story problems (and there are many), the story over a year has a clear beginning, middle and end, and even it's sub arcs have completion, and for that reason it was very satisfying.
This one's def goin on the list of comics to buy. Sounds like a lot of fun and an interesting story. Also X month? That's awesome! i bought the first uncanny xforce book on a local bookstore just for the fun of it and now, 1 month later, I'm obsessed with x force, it is one of my favourite x men comics and I'm now reading the third book, the fourth is waiting in my shelf to be read 😁
I got back into comics as this run was going on and as you can imagine with content this good, I dove back in hard. I bought it because the team on the cover was like one of my handpicked X-men squads, and immediately had to go back for the previous issues. I then realized hey this same guy is writing all my favorite books right now, like Venom. Fans should also not overlook his Secret Avengers run, as that and X-Force actually carry plot points into Uncanny Avengers (the first volume), with the 3 books making up one massive story Remender was seeding.
Later issues of Secret Avengers actually pair Remender with Matteo Scalera, who blew my mind, which I’m grateful for as the pairing led to Black Science
What a great book. I loved his interpretation of Fantomex and Deadpool. And of course Archangel and Psylock. Pretty much the entire story was brilliant. Good stuff
I love standalone series that don't get too tangled up in big metaplot messes or crossovers, and especially serious series that manage to pull off heavy themes without excessive darkness and gore. Plus, using Deadpool for more than cheap comedy is always welcome.
Good video, though I don't recall Psylocke facing off against a past version of herself, ad mentioned around the 12 minute mark. That shot is of her battling the Shadow King. She does have an encounter with a future version of herself but it is non-violent and happens later in the series.

Late to the party. But dp is a very underrated anti hero. His journey form his 2nd series is great. How he strugles to become this saviour LL&L tells him he will be and the mind shattering realization that after all that struggle to become a better man they just want him to be a killer is amazing. Dp was my fav character back in the day. Sadly the character took a turn for the worse after all the tiamat saga.
X-Month? Sweeeet! One of my favorite X-stories was the New Mutants Special Edition #1 & the X-Men Annual #9! Fantastic story and art, I read them, over and over..
While I love the art & writing on these books, I also just really love the team structure of this version. I hope the MCU can incorporate this soon, without spending a long time on classic Liefeld era New Mutants/X-Force. The team up dynamics of Logan, Archangel, Psylocke, Deadpool, Fantomex, & possibly Warpath and X-23, would make for a very very interesting onscreen X-team. And *David Belle* was born to play Fantomex in a film.
Personally, I'd describe Remender's X-Force run as a purging of characters he didn't want around (taking out characters like Gateway and Jamie Braddock on his way to killing Avalanche and others in Uncanny Avengers), and building up momentum for his Avengers run. I think that Kyle & Yost's X-Force was perfect, bested only by Dennis Hopeless's "Cable & X-Force".

I think this was the great unsung saga of this era of marvel, and it gets over shadowed by Hickman's avengers run too often. So yeah. You got a vote for a video series here brother.
Just read through Uncanny Avengers -- the wrap up of these threads is absolutely epic. The whole package is a staggering mix of everything we love. Def consider it all connected.
Uncanny X Force and Old Man Logan got me reading comics again after a long hiatus. UXF is insanely good and extremely shocking
Thank you so much for mentioning "Low." That series is not getting enough attention. It's still ongoing and the quality has not slipped one bit. Remender's deep core of benevolence really shines in that series.

X force n Venom's Remender run were peak marvel
This was the best X-Force. Period.
It was during that time where Wolverine and Deadpool where EVERYWHERE in comics and I wasn't a fan of the latter... until this series where Wade Wilson wants to do good. Won't kill a kid. Doesn't even cash the cheques Archangel gives him.
Thanks for reminding about that amazing run. At the time it was being released it became my first read or “top of the pile’ comic. I even enjoyed Deadpool in this one which is a character I’ve never taken to. I was sad when his run ended and was excited about his Uncanny Avengers run but that failed to match the compelling storytelling of UXF in my eyes. He is definitely a writer to follow though. Recently found your channel so will check out some more stuff on here.

This is still one of my favorite series, it is so good, great art, an amazing balance of preserving the characters, yet growing them in new interesting and realistic ways, I love what they did with deadpool, showing both sides of the clown, and archangels twists of darkness, and how the team reacts to what they deem necessary to protect mutants, and the lines only certain ones will cross, showing heroism in multiple unexpected ways, so good, only wish it was longer, but it makes it that much more unique, also fantomex is a boss!!!!
The omnibus for this run is being released in a couple weeks. Nice.
jesot ok i was confused at first, seen this comment elsewhere. I have 1 i picked up just a few months back, but i can see Amazon is restocking them and Ebay sellers (as usual) are trying to gauge ppl. I did see 1 for around $70+ shipping, not a bad price

It's a reprint, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men is also getting reprinted next month. They've been two of the hardest to find for an affordable price for awhile now
Love Uncanny XForce..best Xmen story to come out in recent memory. I love Opena's art, I wished he did all the art for the book.
I've never been big on anything Marvel related, but this series looks amazing and I'm honest to God thinking about picking it up.
Remo Stopka Uncanny X-Force is one the best written X-Men stories ever and imo the best Marvel story written in the past 25 years. It’s worth your time.
You definitely should pick it up! UXF Vol 1 is amazing and a must read at least up until the end of Dark Angel arc
Start here with x-force then grab his uncanny avengers and Capt America run. It all builds up into an event called Axis. Definitely worth grabbing the graphics novels and reading through. It's like the star wars of marvel books everything just links together.

I’m so glad you covered this run. It’s one of my favorite that I picked up on a whim seeing the team composition and the story plus art was top notch. Fantastic review of the whole thing. But correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t the beast that you’re referencing in this video actually dark beast?
This is my favorite Marvel run! Great job on highlighting how creative Remender was with it. I do want to add, though, that there are three tie-in issues with the Fear Itself event. However, these are not written by Remender (and it shows). So yea the run is basically uninterrupted, but not entirely, I guess.

I gotta say mainstream Remender was a gift, while he understandably now does creator owned books exclusively, anytime a writer of his caliber is handed the characters we love, it’s a treat. Even his more comic-booky super hero moments are creative in fun ways, for example how Nightcrawler handles Blob near the end (I hope that’s relatively spoiler free)

I'm, working on a video series (won't advertise here, and you won't find it on my name) on Batman: Knightfall, and for all the technical and story problems (and there are many), the story over a year has a clear beginning, middle and end, and even it's sub arcs have completion, and for that reason it was very satisfying.

Remender wrote fantomex amazingly, and since this series, nobody has been able to capture this character as marvelous as him

i bought the first uncanny xforce book on a local bookstore just for the fun of it and now, 1 month later, I'm obsessed with x force, it is one of my favourite x men comics and I'm now reading the third book, the fourth is waiting in my shelf to be read 😁
I got back into comics as this run was going on and as you can imagine with content this good, I dove back in hard. I bought it because the team on the cover was like one of my handpicked X-men squads, and immediately had to go back for the previous issues. I then realized hey this same guy is writing all my favorite books right now, like Venom. Fans should also not overlook his Secret Avengers run, as that and X-Force actually carry plot points into Uncanny Avengers (the first volume), with the 3 books making up one massive story Remender was seeding.
Later issues of Secret Avengers actually pair Remender with Matteo Scalera, who blew my mind, which I’m grateful for as the pairing led to Black Science

What a great book. I loved his interpretation of Fantomex and Deadpool. And of course Archangel and Psylock. Pretty much the entire story was brilliant. Good stuff

This book really fell to pieces without him.
I love standalone series that don't get too tangled up in big metaplot messes or crossovers, and especially serious series that manage to pull off heavy themes without excessive darkness and gore. Plus, using Deadpool for more than cheap comedy is always welcome.

Good video, though I don't recall Psylocke facing off against a past version of herself, ad mentioned around the 12 minute mark. That shot is of her battling the Shadow King. She does have an encounter with a future version of herself but it is non-violent and happens later in the series.
Such a cool gachapon prize this episode! Chris is so fortunate to experience seeing NJPW live, & in Tokyo no less! I wonder if it was a big show at the dome?

This is a truly an excellent comic series. I have read the Rick Remender X-force run several times over and loved it.
Late to the party. But dp is a very underrated anti hero. His journey form his 2nd series is great. How he strugles to become this saviour LL&L tells him he will be and the mind shattering realization that after all that struggle to become a better man they just want him to be a killer is amazing. Dp was my fav character back in the day. Sadly the character took a turn for the worse after all the tiamat saga.
X-Month? Sweeeet! One of my favorite X-stories was the New Mutants Special Edition #1 & the X-Men Annual #9! Fantastic story and art, I read them, over and over..
While I love the art & writing on these books, I also just really love the team structure of this version. I hope the MCU can incorporate this soon, without spending a long time on classic Liefeld era New Mutants/X-Force.
The team up dynamics of Logan, Archangel, Psylocke, Deadpool, Fantomex, & possibly Warpath and X-23, would make for a very very interesting onscreen X-team. And *David Belle* was born to play Fantomex in a film.

I LOVE Titan A.E. I always wished it had it's own comic. Such a great & interesting universe as well as great characters that deserve back stories.
Personally, I'd describe Remender's X-Force run as a purging of characters he didn't want around (taking out characters like Gateway and Jamie Braddock on his way to killing Avalanche and others in Uncanny Avengers), and building up momentum for his Avengers run.
I think that Kyle & Yost's X-Force was perfect, bested only by Dennis Hopeless's "Cable & X-Force".
The Evan/Apocalypse character sounds awesome. Definitely going to pick this up!
