Removed and replaced every pin and bushing from kingpost to bucket, swapped the links, stripped and painted the entire boom, replaced the seals in the cylinders. It made a vast difference to how it digs, no more sloppy wobble bucket. Now I just have the swing motor to refurbish next Christmas :)
Boy, that thing's pretty clapped out for $2k! But one thing's for sure - you're not afraid of hard work! Excellent job so far. This was my first video of yours, subbed! Can't wait for pt. 2!

I agree leaving the cab off only if you keep it dry, shedded. with all the rain & humidity in the south that would be my concern. glad to see you still have your genie, thought you might have sold it. so long from Montana
What a rebuild! That’s an awesome little mini ex. Trick I use when rebuilding cylinders leave them in the machine to if it wasn’t inconvenient, makes breaking the gland nut and piston nut free much easier!
this is what 2 grand gets you now a days? No wonder why used machines are the price they are. Looked like the swing bearings have play. Crazy how people can think this is worth 2 grand in this condition.

Aw thanks man I really appreciate that, and yes I know what your talking about, don’t get me wrong I love watching Andrew but when a lot of TH-camrs get big they start changing things and going away from their roots
Great video as always. I have a 1992 Hanix (Nissan) Mini Giant N260-2 escavator I bought a couple years ago. Put new tracks, replaced all the outside hydraulic hoses. Love the machine, but like yours the bucket and bucket links are loose and wobbly. Curious the names of the two companies you purchased your parts from. I tried doing google searches with no luck. I have the electronic control box that needs replacing as well. Can you provide contact information so I can either online or phone for parts
In my experience, if you are able to move cylinders by hand like you did when draining them, the seals are most definitely worn out and fluid is bypassing the piston.
Other then the engine this machine is a hunk. You are amazing for seeing this as a project worth the effort. Your work ethic is over the roof. Thanks for showing us what that looks like!
Nice work Darrel. Glad you’re back with another great video. We’ve missed seeing you. I hope your health issues are continuing to improve as well. I like the orange and black because I think it would really look classy, but whatever you choose will be fine with me.

Very good video showing what needs fixing. Brilliant to see the Cicada coming out for their very brief mating season after their underground sojourn. Their complex biochemistry is a whole new world of interest to people like me. Best wishes from the UK..
Another abused neglected machine being brought back to fresh and usable status! Good Job and look forward tot he next part(s) finishing it up! I like the orange which is something like what Hitachi used or uses still on their excavators?
That there is the exact kind of project I've been hunting for.. I love bring dead equipment back to life but I havent found a single Mini Ex remotely close to me for anywhere under 6k, well aside from the Chinese ones flooding the market. Thanks for the video
For the worn pins. Have to capture them, to the thin parts, so that they can only rotate in the thick parts, where the bronze or steel bushings should be. Then you'll be able to hand the machine down in your family. Best wishes all.
You are doing a great job there Darrell. I also have a good mini excavator but thought of getting something like that one, doing it up and selling to get some extra cash. Cheers Dave.

I have to tell you, I've learned a ton from all of your videos. Don't have the skills you do but at least have an idea of what to look for and so on. Keep it up!
Hi! Just got a notification about the second part of this renovation and figured I have to go and watch the first one first! Great job and timing for me as I am doing some work on my mini ex soon. New tracks, fixing a leaking bucket cylinder, putting a manual thumb (could not get my homemade one to hold up) and getting some paint on it + some service too. It only have 1000 hours on it but I hope it will work for another 1000 hours. BTW, I had a Bobcat mini ex a few years ago and it was actually a Hanix 08 and that was actually a Nissan….. Great to see your channel growing as well as it is, I bet you are making decent money on it, great for you! Putting the tracks on looked like a 2 man job, unfortunately Im really far away otherwise I would be happy to help out! Anyway, see you in part 2!
Wow! Those guys really just messed it up but at least it has the right owner now to take it to the correct respectable level. Everything is in your favour and you have the skills to make it better. The color scheme for the excavator : The Orange, Black and Dark Grey would be a lovely combo for that size machine. You should go with the open canopy but make it taller. Those cracks in the main house is the biggest concern, yet I know you will not overlook that. Those insects ---- well lets just say you need to find a solution to get rid of them, to say the least... Awaiting the next episode of the awesome homepros.... Kudos brother...
I’ve got the 2 ton version badged as a Mitsubishi , 2500 hrs - on my channel , got all my parts from Riley plant spares too , great job Daryl 🏴👍🏻🙋🏼♂️
Another first class video! Could do with a bit more doggo content though! I was surprised to see stuff you'd ordered from the UK (where I am) I dread to think what the postage or shipping cost you! The term 'clapped out' is used a lot here, I've never seen it used on your side of the Pond! Anyway, thanks for this upload, already looking forward to the next. Take care & best wishes :)
I'd advise the black plastic spiral wrap for the hydraulic hoses. Makes it look nice and won't get tore up as much as the steel wire type. Nice channel btw, no hype or click bait ! Cheers, Ard
That cylinder piston end that was first loose then tightened up even with the set screw removed. I do not know if your torches have the ability, but with a torch rosebud I used to heat them up red hot. If red hot they just give up no matter what. In your case the piston seals would first be removed so as not to melt them to the piston. With proper maintenance these bushings will not be worn even after 20 years is greased every morning like farmer's do with their equipment. Unused equipment can just sit until needed, then grease before use. If not being used greasing all the time creates messy headaches. With the house removed your chances of getting hurt rises drastically on a tip over.
I vote for the orange/gray combo. I’d put the cab back on and go with an RV A/C unit on the roof like someone else mentioned. Plus if you have to do a job in the rain, you’ll be glad to be under a roof!
I think the cabin makes the excavator look like what it is but it might be better to take it off. Quite interesting project and can't wait to see more!!! Black and orange color sceme sounds good👍👍
Well I think you got a heck of a deal on it Darrell, but I think you got yourself alot of work also ! I would like to found one of those excavators like that one myself. Good job Man
"This company in Great Britain" and as you're talking about the reasonable prices the parts are all wrapped in Chinese newspaper. Couldn't have timed that better.
Wow, you are amazing. Really know your stuff, but you have to if you are going to have excavation and heavy equipment. I am sure you were "hoping" that not much was wrong with the excavator except what you could see from the beginning, however I am sure you are not surprised at what you are finding. Considering how much a new machine will cost this is probably the best way to go anymore. Looking forward to watching the second part! Thanks for posting.
With all the problems this machine may not have been a good deal at $2000. Please let us know what you have into this machine once you finish. Good Video.
That was alot of work but you still have alot more to go but when you get done with it will be worth it paint it the orange and gray like you suggested it will look good 👍 looking forward for part #2 👍
Viewing from Tokyo on this rainy Sunday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your expertise, precision and determination in restoring your excavator. Well done on your explanations and narrations throughout the video. Thanks for sharing and am looking forward to Part 2.
Seems your heart is really into this machine. I have done many car and motorcycle builds / repairs and only a few I have completely stripped down to do a thorough job on them. Some didnt need as much work, but I didnt feel the need to strip them down to make it easier to work on. Looking forward ot the next instalment of this build. Would you say it was worth buying it still with all the costs added to it ? I have done a lot of rebuilds and the final cost outlay is nearer to buying a perfect item that needs no work doing to it. I even had a Honda petrol generator given to me one for free and I spent £80 on a new carb, bearings, seals, gasket set and cleaning it all out. I finished it and it was running a lot better with good power output and I listed it on ebay with a starting bid of £50 and had a lot of watchers and only one bid. I wasnt happy I made a loss on it.
First video of yours I've watched. Really good. I like how thorough you are. Cicadas seem cool, wish we had them up here (new england). I'd keep it yellow. Would keep the cab; probably better for the machine if it will live outdoors. Maybe replace some windows with screen and add a fan inside if too hot. Deer flies and mosquitoes are bad here and I'm shorter, so I'd prefer the cab I think (mine has none).
I want to thank everyone of you guys that have taken their time to watch my video, let me know what color you all like and any other input you have on this machine🙂

Do you have a photographic bolt memory? What is your system for keeping track of all the bolts to their homes?
Umm somthing like that lol it’s just kinda like common sense to me 🤷
Man you are going in deep on this one. At least the parts seem reasonable. Great content. Keep it coming.
thank you!
WOW! So much stuff in a little box!
Kudos brother...
thank you so much for the kind words!🙂
I’ve got the 2 ton version badged as a Mitsubishi , 2500 hrs - on my channel , got all my parts from Riley plant spares too , great job Daryl 🏴👍🏻🙋🏼♂️
oh cool I’ll have to check that out!
Awesome, so nice seeing your Adventures again!
Glad you like them!
I think the cabin makes the excavator look like what it is but it might be better to take it off. Quite interesting project and can't wait to see more!!! Black and orange color sceme sounds good👍👍
Awesome vid as always Darrell, you definitely have a lot of patience and motivation to fix these machines up so consistently. Major props dude
Glad you like them! thank u!
$2000!?!? Wow. Was thinking it'd be a deal at $500 max. You're a brave dude.
Well I think you got a heck of a deal on it Darrell, but I think you got yourself alot of work also ! I would like to found one of those excavators like that one myself. Good job Man
you got that rite bill!
You, Sir, are a brave man. I wouldn't have taken that machine for free if they delivered it to me.
lol thanks!
Just wondering if you used a degreaser before you power washed it. Cold water doesn't really remove grease
I use diesel then dawn dish spray
"This company in Great Britain" and as you're talking about the reasonable prices the parts are all wrapped in Chinese newspaper. Couldn't have timed that better.
not Chinese… Japanese BIG difference, all the parts on this machine were made in Japan which are very good quality
Great vid. we get some crazy big crazy cicadas here in northern Australia, also..
Have you given any thought of doing what you did with the Toyota skid steer and the same colour would look neat🇬🇧🇮🇪.
I really like your presentation of the videos. You seem to be all business and not be comedian like most you tubers. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate that!
How about Manitowoc red? That color will give your backyard some class!
Nice rebuild and the effort you put in to that clapped out machine. Kudos to you.
Cheers from Finland.
With all the problems this machine may not have been a good deal at $2000. Please let us know what you have into this machine once you finish. Good Video.
maybe your rite but it will be a good machine when finished
Could ya put some kind of a/c unit on it then you would have heat and air. Maybe a tractor unit idk. I like the cab but your digger
Well that escalated quickly looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos on this
You certainly are not afraid to tackle complex problems!
😊
Awesome, i am very glad when i see you drop a video , thank you for sharing and i learn a lot , i watch your video and i come back to comment 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much Carlos I love seeing your comments!
I was wondering what all the noise was in the back ground. Can't believe how bad they r. Don't get them up in NH. Good video bud.
they are cicadas they were really bad at this time
Out standing and keep track off that stuff great work can’t wait for
part 3
That was alot of work but you still have alot more to go but when you get done with it will be worth it paint it the orange and gray like you suggested it will look good 👍 looking forward for part #2 👍
@ 29:40 cleanest workbench top evah seen! lol
I just cleaned it for the video lol it’s not my main work bench
Viewing from Tokyo on this rainy Sunday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your expertise, precision and determination in restoring your excavator. Well done on your explanations and narrations throughout the video. Thanks for sharing and am looking forward to Part 2.
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you!!
So glad to see you back! Love the channel man!!
Appreciate it!😊😊
Seems your heart is really into this machine.
Thank you very much! You made some very good points, I think I’m gonna keep the cab
