Renault Zoe - Taking the EV Plunge...Can we change your opinion on electric cars? | Fifth Gear

  • Its time for a public test...We meet a driving instructor, who gets a Renault Zoe...will it be just as easy to teach in when it comes to mirror, signal, manoeuvre? We invite him to sample an EV for a few hours. Can we convert him to EV power? Can we dispel some of the myths, and put his minds at ease regarding range? And what cash could he save if they converted to the EV way of life.

    The "you could save" instead of "you will save" statement is exactly like playing the Lottery.
    1. What are the costs of recharging at home vs quick charge (hint: massively different)
    2. How much does it cost to replace the battery once is worn below a threshold?
    3. What is the warranty on battery?
    4. What is the resale value of a used EV?

    • @GordonMullan
      @GordonMullan ปีที่แล้ว

      1. True
      2. The battery wil most likely outlast the car
      3.8 years in most cases
      4. Currently similar to a combustion engine vehicle and in future better, because less and less people will want the slower, noisier, dirtier, less reliable, more expensive alternative.

    Stats say internal combustion engined vehicles catch fire 20x more than EVs. This is by proportion of vehicles on the road, so takes account of the smaller number of EVs. Other bargain benefits are that in the event of brake failure, the regen braking is almost 100% as effective, so an EV is useless for a Columbo-type episode where the main suspect or witness, mysteriously crashes of a mountainside road and their brake lines were cut! I particularly feel this is a great thing for lorries, so that’ll take time to feed through, but there have been tragedies avoidable if the lorries had either maintenance properly done, or were EV. Great proposition anyway, for an auto instructor. The higher price is justifiable because the benefits eg cheaper high-miles repairs etc, are felt very soon, a matter of months for a driving instructor. I cannot afford an EV that’s worth getting, but note many lease EVs are now coming to the used market, that are much improved on early cars. Take care all.
